It would be great if someone knows of a way or a hack or perhaps I'm doing it wrong, but I want to be able to click a shortcut on my homescreen (say from within Wisbar), and for that to link to a bookmark in Resco File Explorer and for that to load up in Opera, but when i test it by opening a saved page and opera loads up, it says Invalid URL and gives the link address as http://\Program Files\Opera 10...... ETC.
Does anyone know if a registry tweak or hack to make opera be able to load up saved pages or preferably bookmarks from resco explorer?
Please let me know! Thanks!

hi to everyone,
thanks to this forum i started to use opera 8.5 on my qtek 9000 but infortunately every time i receive an email with a link it launches ( as i click on the link) PIE. is there a registry hack to modify the default inetrnet browser or am i condamned to copy the link and paste it on opera tu use it?
thanks for your help.
I know this answer is not up to the level of this forum...but maybe it is better than no answer:
I have installed Netfront 3.3 ( i definitely believe it is superior to Opera) and it allows to select NF as the default browser.
I had installed Opera and deinstalled it later, so I cannot check if it offers such an option to select it as default.
Andy.
Answer
To set any browser as the default one
open a registry editor
point to HKCR
and the extensions that you want the new browser to open:
htmlfile
http
https
ftp
url
xml
go to shell\open\command\default
For opera9 modify into:
"OperaL.exe" %1
it should be the same for other browsers
What the f**k!!
This is a 2 years old thread!!

Opera 9.5 gives you the chance to set as the default borwser and works like a charm! I have not tested Netfront.

Thread may be 2 years old, but it's useful to me. I am trying to kludge together a way to have Opera open up when I click on a shortcut in the Favorites folder, which I have attached to the start menu. This will allow me to store/sync my favorites through my work desktop IE, since I'm not permitted to install Opera on it. (BTW I'm actually using a Titan, but I figure the reg hack should be the same. And I have a used Uni in the mail, so I sort of belong here!)
Under HKCR->urlfile->shell->open->command, I have this not including the quotes: "operaL.exe %1"
This triggers Opera when I click on sopmething in my Favs folder, but it fails saying that the local file is not available. Am I missing something, or is this not possible? I somehow have Opera set to open when I click a link in an email, so I should be able to copy the syntax of that reg entry, but not sure where to look for it.
TIA
What do I change it to if I want it to Pocket IE? When I open the "Video Sites" for Flash Video Bundle, I get Opera Mobile 9.5... I can't access the videos straight from there. Can someone help me out?

I have installed the IrisBrowser on the storage card, do I have to do anything different as just changing the registry does not seem to work ...
Is it just me or the ROM I'm using, (Latest 6.5, 2.5 manila energy ROM)...., But is Microsofts Internet Explorer still rather slow when it comes to rendering pages ?, which bring me to my next question.... Can I change the internet tab so that it opens one of my opera bookmarks rather then IE ?, and will the screenshot function work with opera, or is this IE only, I thought that this would of been a function in manilla and had nothing to do with IE ?. Thanks in advance !!. Nick.

Copy OperaL.exe from your \windows directory to your card and rename it to iexplore.exe. Then using TotalCommander or Resco Explorer copy it back to the \windows dir and replace the original iexplore.exe.
Now, in the 'Internet' tab it will open Opera.
For the favorites links in the 'Internet' tab, you have to insert manually the address of each favorite (copy-paste), and after that selecting them will open with Opera.
Thanks guys...!, sorry bout posting in wrong forum...!
When I go to "bookmarks" on the Internet tab, I only see about half of my Opera bookmarks / folders. Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix?
there is a limit to the amount of bookmarks that can be shown on the internet tab (I think the limit is 5). So if your bookmarks exceed that number, only the first 5 are shown on the internet tab. Maybe there is a registry key that can change that.
I think the original poster is referring to the screen when you press the left soft-key "Bookmarks" on the Internet Tab. I experience the same problem. Unfortunately, my only work-around is to simply not access that screen.
OK, sorry for my mistake. If that what he is referring to, thenits important to know which version of opera he/she uses. With opera 9.5 on my TP2, I do not have that problem.
It is Opera 9.5 ... the version that comes pre-installed on the Sprint Touch Pro2. However, my bookmarks were copied over to the device from another phone that was running Opera 9.7 (I copied them over by moving the opera6.adr file from the old device to the new one), which may be the source of the problem. They do show up fine within Opera though ...

I once thought that was my problem as well when I copied the opera6 file over from my Diamond. But it's not. I created the bookmarks manually with my TP2 and it worked fine for a while. But after a couple days, they started disappearing again. I somehow think it's related to the little image icon that Opera saves for each bookmark (eg, the "Y!" icon for a Yahoo bookmark).
Did anyone find a solution for this?

So this site provided a cab (tailored to the Topaz) that I found in a thread search here. It's great when I first start up the phone as it disables Push and doesn't load the HTC Opera browser into memory at startup (saving 10% memory utilization). However, when I do open Opera and close it, it then caches Opera into memory. This also makes Opera open up a new tab any time I open a browser window. Is there any way to keep Opera from staying in memory??? I'm willing to wait the extra 5-10 seconds for my browser to startup WHEN I want it and not to cache my previously visited tabs.
I'd switch to Internet Explorer, but I don't like it's layout and it doesn't have the quick search bar (or any easy search utility) at the top.
Looking further, supposedly in Opera 9.5 the Reg Key /HLM/Software/Opera/Preload : RealExit = 1 is supposed to make Opera close. However, mine was already set via the above posted cab. After the soft reset, my opera browser still doesn't close when I request it to and is stored in memory...
Sorry.. In the sticky above to solve issue. Didn't realize HTC threw in their own stuff to keep it up...
Just like the title says: I would like to set my wifes tp2 up to use opera 9.7 as the default browser. The snag i run into is setting it as the default on the internet tab on tf3d.
There are several ways to set the tf3d internet tab to use 9.5 and it handles it well: bookmarks and search from tf3d tab all are opera 9.5 intigrated. but as i said I would like to set hers to 9.7. Please please no comments on "just flash the rom". we dont want to go that route because after months of searching and experimenting with my own tp2, ever rom I have tried has either had a shlew of dibilitating bugs, or if they were perfectly operational they ate up 70% of the available ram after a few hours of use.
Yes I did search, and there doesnt seem to be any info on this. I even read through a lil over a hundred posts on the opera thread; nothing.
bizzump....
Not sure on 9.7, but when I installed 10, there was an option at the end of the install that asked if you wanted Opera to be the default browser. I said yes to that and everything is working fine.
I had tried a number of things prior to that to manually make the browser the default for everything, but nothing seemed to get it all. Maybe try re-installing Opera?
you should be able to its in the registry, you just need to put in the path to the .exe file for the opera u want as default.
Download latest Opera 9.7.35964 from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5928300&postcount=1709
Install Caliban Opera Browser 9.70.35964.cab to the main memory, not storage card.
As with others here it did so automatically for me.
right I understand that it becomes the default. the problem is that I also want my bookmarks to continu to be added to the internet tab like I could with 9.5. when I tweaked 9.5 to be the default I was also able to tell tf3d that when I add a new bookmark, to display it on the internet tab. just installing 9.7 will use my previously existing bookmarks i set in 9.5 but will not allow me to create new ones that will transfer over to the internet tab.
Anyone?
For those of you who installed the 9.7 various cabs, how did you make your bookmarks appear in the internet tab?
Internet tab using this folder for the bookmarks: \windows\Opera9\opera6.adr
Opera 9.7 using different folder for the bookmarks: \windows\Opera9\profile\opera6.adr
Temp. solution:
Enable Opera 9.7 to using \windows\Opera9\profile\ folder
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Opera\Info]
"UseOperaBookmark"=dword:00000001
In Opera 9.7 edit/add new bookmarks then copy \windows\Opera9\profile\opera6.adr file to \windows\Opera9\ folder.
I made fix for Opera 9.7 bookmarks: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6099429
wow thank you. I will try this out this weekend and let you know . again thank you
