I've had a hotmail account for more than a decade. Probably 13 or 14 years. But I didn't use it often, and never stored contacts online (I use Outlook for my mail, and sync it with gmail, and don't store contacts online there). But now, in order to sync Outlook contacts with Windows Phone 7, I set up hotmail to sync with Outlook, and now all of my contacts have been sent a spam email through my hotmail account. Spam is why I rarely used hotmail to begin with. GRRR!
Thumbs down to MS for making us use Live.com!
looks like you have a trojan on your PC. Check your anitvirus and check if you have all the Windows and Outlook updates installed.
Sorry, but this is not a problem with live.com it is with your computer.
BTW, you can sync your contacts without configuring/syncing mail etc... check out http://www.soocial.com/
You also may want to change your hotmail password to something you don't use (and have never used) elsewhere.
GRRR...
Ok... I guess I was too quick to blame Live... Malwarebytes is running now, for about 15 minutes, hasn't found anything yet, but we'll see. Password changed as well.
My Live contacts contain the same amount of contacts as my gmail account for many years and never got spam emails for that. It is typically caused by malware on your PC that uses your outlook (or even worse, outlook express) as gold mine to send out spams.
One thing I've noticed is that in my call log all the entries are numbers. Numbers don't seem to match up to names and show the Names and Pictures - like... ever... They're just a bunch of numbers and who the hell remembers all of everyone's phone numbers (some people have home work and two mobiles ).
Almost done with the second scan - still nothing found. :/
Probably caused by one of your emails that contains malware and you clicked on it. The embedded malware will execute (sending out emails from your address book) and it will be gone afterwards. I'll be supprised it can be detected by any software. Besides, a few trojan I encountered in the past can't be detected by anything either. But those are much more dangerous than just sending out the spam mail.
I find Live Service is really helpful on Storing my contact. I don't have to worry about backing 'em up on my simcard. I can have all my contact number even i change the simcard...

try Microsoft security essentials. I have found it to be quite good with detecting things that went unnoticed with my previously installed software (mcafee)
Before I synced my info I went through and did some cleaning on my contact list on live. I love that it is all on live and I can remotely wipe my phone and have my contacts on a new phone in a matter of minutes.
i love the live sync as well, i was not for it until i got my HD7...

Windows Phone 7 is not supported on their website yet..
Thanks for all the good input.
I see that Calendar and Contact sync is good in a way it quickly transfers necessary data to your new device.
But WL has two big down sides.
* Limitation of about 1000 contacts. If you go above that expect errors
* You can't sync separately Email, Contacts and Calendar when you want but just all at once.
Also: they *don't* force you to use Live to sync your contacts. You can sync them to Gmail or any number of similar services, as well as anything that supports the Activesync protocol. I sync exclusively to Google Contacts and have since the day I got the phone, problem free

that's for syncing outlook contacts to Live contacts or any other service. Once you sync your contacts to live or gmail account, Windows Phone 7 can sync with them.

I've had more than 1500 contacts since day 1 and haven't had an issue. I used Outlook Connector to sync the to my Live account and my phone was automtically populated with all of them.

So you're lucky! 1000 contacts limitation is well known in Hotmail accounts.
In my case until I cleaned manually my Contacts list the phone was performing looped sync of contacts resulting in endless sync (reaching 25000 contacts synced and still going on......)
Windows Live is always evolving and like other limitations, the 1000 contacts do not exist anymore, and its going to be at least 2 years now that limitation does not exists...

I am synchronizing the Desire's "PC calendar" with MS Outlook through HTC Sync.
However i see, that the custom ROMs based on Froyo (Android 2.2) don't include HTC Sync, as they are ported from Nexus One.
Is there any alternative solution for syncing the Android calendar directly with MS Outlook ?
For security reasons (my company doesn't like to post internal, including confidental , data on Google and making it in fact a public information) i can't use these methods:
- sync Outlook calendar with Google calendar directly through internet
- use Google calendar instead of Outlook calendar
- sync Desire calendar directly with Exchange server
Does anybody else have this issue ?
I don't understand why Google hasn't already addressed this issue. May be they don't wont to see the Android in corporate environment ?
In your situation I don't think so.
I had a problem syncing with Outlook but discovered by using Google calendar you can skip the outlook sync and have your calendar whenever you are when you log on,

How about this:

As i wrote, i need to synchronize with the Outlook calendar in my work.
I can't really force may company (including all the 50.000 employees worldwide) to use Google calendar instead of Outlook calendar (MS Exchange).
There is no way to sync the Google calendar with my Outlook calendar, for security reasons (confidential data is sent in the Outlook invitations). The whole Google calendar is blocked in my company and i can't even connect the server (for security reasons).

The stock mail app has native Exchange support - or you can use Touchdown which is more feature rich. Google doesn't need to be involved - it's a secure (SSL) connection between your phone and your company's Exchange server.

As I mentioned before, the company Exchange policy doesn't allow direct syncing. For some reason only the access over https://owa.company.com/... is working.
Direct access from Android to OWA Exchange server doesn't work (some ambiguous error appears, probably the Exchange server prohibits this kind of connections at all).

I have tried Exchange for Android 2.0/ 2.1 from NitroDesk, Inc. and after much struggle it was able to detect correct settings for my corporate Exchange.
Apperently i can sync all the folders now (i am not completely sure, as i have played with this soft only for few hours), read email, sync calendar, private folders, notes etc.
It's only a 30 day trial, i hope the official Froyo 2.2 from HTC will come before the trial period expires and then i could use the updated Mail application with extended Exchange capabilities delivered by default in Android.
Hallo,
I am also a newcomer to Desire HTC Sync/outlook 2003. I have downloaded the latest htc version and installed. Everything working fine (basic calender and contacts) except:
1. The contacts are synced on the prename instead of the lastname, although in outlook on last name.
2. I have in the contacts submenus. How do I sync those?
Could somebody help me?

Regarding your first point I think when you are in your contact list and you press menu then settings you can change that (don't have my phone at the moment so can't check it on mine)
I have looked everywhere. I am not able to find in the menu the possibility to rearrange the sorting on lastname. This is perhaps somewhere in the general setup.
Can someone help me?
By the way, I purchased The missing sync. But this is to be discussed in a completely separate thread.

I use outlook 2010, (it's great) and I am not having this issue, the only place I can change this setting is not in my phone but in outlook 2010, go to file>Options>Contacts>names and filing>default "File As" make sure is says last, first
hope this helps
I am using Outlook 2003. The file is set as you have described. All my contacts are arranged in Outlook on the last name.
Perhaps there is really no way to get this arranged in Desire/HTC Sync. I could not find anything in the manual concerning this item.
Many thanks for your effort.
Just got my phone back today, but unfortunatly I'm not able to find the setting anymore. (you can change the display form of names frome first name last name to last name, first name but you can only do that when you edit the contacts name, which is way to much work for all your contacts)

Ditto!
Do NOT go for missing sync. Its very unprofessionally run and full of bus.
Ive had the product for about 6 months and they havent been able to fix my issues. Originally I had problems on Xperia X8 in that my contacts were being removed form the PC when synchronising.
Logged the issue with MarkSpace (which by the way appears to be a two man outfit). I would get a reply every so often to say a new version has been released and I should try it. When askign if the new version was actually a fix for my issue i was told no and that I should 'jut try it'. Good job I backed up my outlook data file first as it deleted my contacts again.
Eventually decided to change my phone and now have a different issue; missing sync is preventing google synchronisation. Also the contacts on my phone which were written to the phone from PC do not synchronise if I edit them. Not only that but if I edit a google contact on the phone that too does not synchronise with google.
These people dont seem to care that there are real users in the field with real data. Once again Im told to 'try the new version' - same result. Problem not fixed
Missing sync would have been better of 'Missing'
Hey guys,
My MD now has a Desire and I notice something strange happening when he syncs his outlook contacts.
Now I know from both sides (outlook, Android) , it doesn't really matter what you file someone's name as because when you search, it still appears either way. However, he is very particular so here is my problem.
When he syncs his outlook contacts to the device, on outlook they now appear as first name, last name. Even though they are set to File As Lastname, Firstname. Now if I open a contact in Outlook, flip the File As back from and to what it was, it then appears in outlook correctly (well how he wants it to).
However, next sync it will re appear as first, last... although file as is still last, first (Outlook)
Anyone have any ideas or noticed something similar?
I appreciate this is a minor issue but I would like to resolve it for him if possible.
Thanks for reading and any help appreciated.
Tell your MD to stop being so picky!!! LOL!!!
Seriously, though, I don't know - I stopped using Outlook sync and sync to my Gmail account now

Thanks for that Redskinblack, looks like it'll be a great work around for us. Anyone have any info as to weather or not HTC are ever likely to fix this though?
outlook sync with htc sync then tried to sync back after wiping the contacts on my phone sent all my contacts screwy, added them to wrong groups, linked them to wrong facebook contacts...
I've found exporting to sd and importing again much easier and works much nicer - lose my groups but that's not as annoying as re-linking them all...
obviously doesnt help the outlook issue though
If it helps, I've been trying to find a reliable method to sync Outlook 2010 contacts with the Desire. I had similar issues with HTC Sync reversing first and last names as well as problems syncing.
Having looked at Gsyncit but not wanting to pay for it, I found MyPhoneExplorer which was originally developed for SE phones but has been updated to include Android. It works well and syncs over wifi. You install the program on your PC and the app from the Market. In the program, you then select Outlook as the source of your contacts.
In order to avoid duplicated contacts, I deleted all phone contacts prior to syncing and it copied all the Outlook contacts to my Desire. The only issue was that the Facebook contact link to the phone contacts was broken. This was resolved by removing the account from HTC Facebook for Sense, logging in again and linking a contact.
Hope this helps someone.

i had the same problem with windows mobile phones trying to sync to my computer. here is the solution : when to write a new contact in outlook say his name is ( Dave Smith ) open up contact field in outlook express and now point to new contact .where it says FULL Name ,click on this icon usually you would put the first name ,in this instance (Dave) in the box where it says First and (Smith) in the box where it says Last .Don't do that .where is says First just put the whole name in there i.e Dave Smith . save all info ,when you have synced your phone ,it will say Dave Smith in your phone.
hope this helps and you understand.
The free sync tool MyPhoneExplorer works fine for me and you can set the first, last option as well.
Windows Phone 7 Sync Software
Sync contacts, calendar and tasks with Windows Phone 7
http://www.companionlink.com/windowsphone/
Sync your PC with Windows Phone 7 via any Google, Gmail, or Google Apps Premier account. CompanionLink installs on the PC and syncs calendar, contacts and tasks to your Google/Gmail account. Google then syncs with Windows Phone 7 devices using the Exchange ActiveSync protocol provided by their Google Sync service. Two-way sync is fully supported so changes made on the phone will sync back to the PC.
Currently, there is no support for notes/memos because Google does not support syncing the notes datatype. CompanionLink is evaluating alternative sync methods for Windows Phone 7.
Sync
Has anyone tried this? If it works...gotta have it!
So rather than sync directly with Windows Live and access in Outlook via the Hotmail Connecter for free you should sync your data to google for $40? Fantastic product, where do I sign up?
BTW how to you sync Tasks if they're absent on WP7?

Lol. Well, I can see the point if you use Google Apps for business reasons, but CompanionLink has always been a waste of money.
And overpriced at that.
Sync....yes $40!
The Outlook connector to sync to Hotmail is EXTREEMLY limited. In my normal Contacts folder I have about 5000 contacts. The calendar for the next 90 day includes almost 400 events. The Hotmail calendar hold enough events but does not SYNC the correct folder! I want to sync...NOT IMPORT. I think hotmail contacts are limited to a few hunderd.

Outlook allows you to Layer Calendars. The fact that it's going to the the Hotmail Calendar means little to nothing.
People layer calendars on a daily basis. You don't put Holidays and Birthdates on your work calendar, do you?
Putting your contacts on Hotmail is as simple as dragging and dropping them to the Hotmail Calendar Folder.
Hotmail has gone through many changes and supports most of the Outlook Fields. 99% of people will have no issue with just dragging them over. I had over 200 Contacts and they all went to Windows Live with no issue. I had more issues porting over to Google than to Windows Live using Outlook due to field name differences and missing fields in Google Contacts (a notorious weak point in the Google Services).
It does Sync. Just to the Hotmail Folder, the same way Exchange Data goes to its own file.
This prevents data from becoming too disorganized, like when you have several POP3 accounts dropping mail into the same PST/Mailbox file.
If you had an Exchange account set up in Outlook, I find it hard to believe you'd want your Windows Live Calendar going into your Exchange Calendar, Windos Live Mail going into your Exchange Mailbox, and Windows Live Contacts being jumbled in with you Exchange contacts... I'm sure you want that mail you sent to your brother calling your boss a dickwad to get archived on their corporate servers, etc.
I think a large part of this is people have some unrealistic expectations of how things should work, and having no clue how organized people actually organize their data.
Windows Live Connector works similarly to Exchange on Outlook. The only difference is you need a connector for it (at least for Outlook 2003/2007), because the functionality is not built into the application. I expect the next version of Outlook to have the connector built in as core functionality. To get similar functionality for Google Accounts, you'd need to pay for Google Apps premier edition (and even then, their Contacts/Calendar Sync sucks hardcore). No other system has as good integration with Outlook as Exchange and Windows Live. You people keep complaining about something so trivial, when the alternatives fall flat on their faces. Seriously.
Also, the premier client software for Windows Live is Essentials.
I still don't like the whole idea of this 'cloud' thing for my Contacts and Calendar. I much prefer controlling the information that goes between my phone and my laptop ... I do NOT like the idea that it now has to go out to the 'cloud' somewhere with all my Contacts' information.
I just do not like it one bit! I want a direct link between phone and laptop ... even if I have to hardwire it to get the data updated.

Hi all
I think that the companion software comes into it's own if you have a non-Microsoft PIM/email client such as Lotus Notes, etc.
I tried it to get some data from my WM 6.5 device into my Googlemail account. That worked very well, but I probably wouldn't pay for it.

CompanionLink is the sole reason I gave up on WP7 and moved to Android. It syncs my Outlook contacts, calendar, tasks and notes via USB to my Droid2.
No thanks to posting my vacation plans, parents' address, business contacts, etc. to the cloud (MS, Google or other) for any hacker to find.
CompanionLink isn't cheap, and it isn't perfect - it's about as accurate as ActiveSync was - but at least it offers a basic compatibility with Outlook that Microsoft decided to abandon.
since i have been using the google services for a while now, it is something that is important to me before i decide about this phone ... i know it is able to sync the basic calandar and of course email. but what about contacts? ... and in the calendar can you have it sync multiple cals using the m.google.com/sync ?
Yes.
I have two google accounts set up on mine, both calanders are on the phone, all contacts are on the phone and it all works perfect!
I was the same way with Google services. They synced up with my HD7 perfectly!
Hotmail Syncs up great as well. Gmail is great. Live Sync is great. Exchange is great. Tasks would be nice
Why would a "consumer" not want to have their emails always available, contacts are never lost and a single email entry for account settings will get you all set up?
Works perfectly with GoogleMail
Sent from my LG-E900 using Board Express
Good to know on contacts! And on the calendar. My family all uses google cal. And then we share them with each other to keep up. So I needed to make sure on then multi cal support
also works perfectly with google apps and a custom domain (or two) setup as exchange servers
my main need is to have multiple calendars synced to it ... or just the ones that are linked to my email address and that are shared with me ...
right now you only get the default calendar for each synced account

B*ull... that's why I never use anything from Microsoft other than Windows operating system and the phone;. .. each and every service of their sucks.. they suck at internet and everything to do with internet... at desktop they are good...
BTW I had to manually delete all those contacts from my dummy Live ID .. 25 contacts at a time.. (they wont show more than 25 per page) .. 3 clicks per 25 contacts... and a 1000 contact to delete .. before I could put it this dummy Live ID account on my WP7 to access Zune without F*cking up my contacts on my phone...
I have no email coming on this dummy account, zero contacts and nothing to do with its calendar.. i give up on Outlook too.. I am better off using Gmail and my phone as outlook.. syncing important contacts and appointments to gmail for backup.. Microsoft Outlook is dead.

Well aren't you just retarded then? When setting up gmail on your phone, it asks if you want to sync contacts and calenders. There was no reason to import them to hotmail.

Funny thing is I just created a dummy Live Account to put it on my WP7.. and than after creating my dummy Live ID account on computer I used their 'import contacts from Gmail to Live ID Account' feature.. my gmail has only like 215 contacts with phone numbers and addresses and things like that.. when I tried to import them to Live ID... my Live ID import each and every email on my gmail account as a separate contact.. every mail ID i received an email from, every mail ID i ever sent an email to.. it all was imported as a 'Contact' on my live ID account.. 1000 contacts it showed and now I had contacts like '[email protected]' as a stand alone contact.. B*ull... that's why I never use anything from Microsoft other than Windows operating system and the phone;. .. each and every service of their sucks.. they suck at internet and everything to do with internet... at desktop they are good...

Are you sure there are not 1000 contacts on your gmail? For example, 'Other Contacts'. I have cleaned up my gmail so that things like unsubscribe are not in my contacts list (any tab of the contacts list). When I did the import, it was perfect.
yeah on my gmail i have a list built just for the contacts i keep ... the other ones that get auto added later i purge on a regular basis ..
what i was wanting to do with the calendars though would not work the way i wanted it to ... so instead of being able to display the shared calendars that i had on my main account i had to log into each of them on the phone and tell it to sync just the calendar with my phone to get the same end results....
How do you prevent it from syncing ALL Google contacts?
My parents just got the Focus, and they use Gmail. I set their email and contacts up, but it pulls in every person they ever emailed.
Is there a way to just sync the contacts that have phone numbers?

you can build a custom list in the Gmail site and then resync it so that it will only import the ones you want
Sent from my SGH-i917 using Board Express
It only semi syncs with Google calendar from what I see, I just set a biweekly repeating event on the web and on my Optimus it appears weekly. Not the best sync ever. My Live calendar synced the biweekly properly however.

What do you mean exactly?
They have several groups already in Gmail Contacts, and it still pulls in ever single person with an email address. Even the ones who aren't in their created groups.

mine imports all my events no problem at all ...
the only thing i had to do was to get one of the public cal's to show up by adding its events into my main cal.

there is also a setting in gmail someplace that lets you disable the way it adds every email address to the address book.... i have also disabled that ...
I don't have a Windows phone, yet, but I am trying to prepere my contact lists for my new phone.
This is how I started:
I have an private exchange account with about 200 contacts.
I have made my exchange account a Windows Live, because i use mye exchange account with MSN Messenger (about 80 of 200 contacts)
In Windows Live, I have connected Facebook and Linkedin to sync contacts from this services.
How will this exampel contact look on Windows Phone ?
Exchange: Don Johnsen, [email protected], company phone: 1122334455
Windows Live: Don Johnsen, [email protected]
Facebook: Don Johnsen, [email protected], privat phone: 5544332211, Works for Company1, Private adresse: Privatelane 123
Linkedin: Don Johnsen, [email protected], Works for Company1, Company1 adresse, Company fax nr: 55555555
How will the calender look on Windows Phone ?
Will I get facebook events in the calender ?
You don't get Facebook events in the calendar by default. I don't know if there's a way to get them to show there.
Your LinkedIn contact info will show as Live. You can link multiple sources to one contact card, it works fairly well.
Thanks.
Someone with an example of a contactcard with multiple contact info ?
What profile pictures will it use, or can I change from facebook, Linkedin or MSN ?
Will I be able to choose mailadress to send to ?
By default it uses the picture from Facebook, but you can change that and use a photo from a different contact source or from your phone.
Yes, you can choose email addresses.
It's difficult to show a contact card because there's no way to make a screenshot. There are pictures on the internet, a quick Google search will help you.
basically what happens is that you can "link" contact cards together, so that way you can see all the different information from the different places in 1 card. the disadvantage is that you will get double ups (so if you had the same email address for the person across 3 places, you'd see it 3 times in their contact card with it saying where each came from).
as for editting details, i'm not sure but from what i'm aware, you edit for 1 type. so for example, you had 1 contact with 3 different locations for data (your exchange, windows live, facebook), you cannot edit facebook of course, so what would happen is you would be given the option to edit which one you want (your exchange or windows live). so if you wanted the data to sync, you would have to edit twice, one for your windows live and one for your exchange. somewhat sucks, but that's the way it works. there might be third party applications (desktop) that can sync exchange with windows live regularly so you don't have to worry, but i'm not familiar enough with it.
I am having an issue with syncing new contacts. I connected LinkedIn to my Windows Live account. It updated some of my contacts that I already had and added others that were only in LinkedIn and not in the Live account.
They are showing up correctly in my Live account but the new contacts and updated info that LinkedIn merged are not syncing/showing on my phone.
Any ideas how to fix this?
I have several question regarding contacts, cause it seems little bit chaotic.
1. I set up my Live account, connected it with my gmail, facebook, linked in etc. and then syncd with phone - zero contacts in my phone. SO I realized, that you can sync live with gmail, but it will not import phone contacts... and if you set gmail account on your phone (not in live) it will download the contacts from the account, but will not sync them with live. It sucks. You can import contacts in live from gmail directly in browser (there is an import gmail option). Buit anyway, it sucks, because I thought, that my live account will be able to sync different contacts so they will be updated all the time - I will change something in gmail and it will be updated in WP7, I will change WP7 and it will sync with gmail. NO WAY THIS IS HAPPENING. SAD.
2. LinkedIn - my LinkedIn contacts are showing OK in Live.com, with pictures etc. But, they are not showing with pictures on the phone and they are not even showing all information from linkedin. Is there a way how to change it (I want pictures from these contacts to some of my phone conracts after i link them?
3. Facebook - I thought, that when I connect facebook in live.com, that it will be connected automatically in the phone as well. It isnt. It does show updates in people hub, but it will not show contacts in contact list, if you want them to show, again, you will have to add facebook account to your phone. BUt these will not be synced with your live, so when you link facebook contact with linked in conbtact and gmail contact and then you hard reset the phone and sync it with live, you will not have ONE contact, you will have three different unlinked contacts, becuase link is done just in phone. WHICH SUCKS.
4. Oh, and I just realized, that when I imported my contacts from gmail to live and then synced them to WP7, the contacts on my phone do not show phone numbers! My live contacts show the phone numbers, but they are not synced to the phone! WTF? Aarrrgh... So I will have to sync my gmail contacts with numbers with my phone as a separate account to be able to call those contacts...
Any advices how to avoiud these problems, or am i wrong?

My problem is the same as your number 2 problem. If anyone knows how to sync all the data it would be greatly appreciated.
I tried to google it and realized, that I am not the only one in the world with the same problem. There are lot of people with that problem and it seems, that it may appear during time, first everything is synced right from live, and then it stops working, phone numbers and pictures dissapear etc. Also, there is no answer to that problem from MS.
So, I tried following:
1. Deleted all my contacts from live
2. Diconected all the social networks in live.
3. Synced my phone with live, so there were no contacts on my phone as well
4. Deleted all account on my phone (facebook)
5. Restarted the phone
5. Imported contacts from gmail to live again
6. Connected live with facebook and linkedin again
7. Synced my phone with live
At first, it seemed to work, my gmail contacts appeared with numbers again.
There were no pictures at gmail contatcs that should have them (even that during my first sync, they were imported)
And the worst thing is, that when I started syncing my liveID to my phone it went to same weird loop. I have 350 contacts in live, but the syncing doesnt seem to stop, right now it says it is syncing contact 10000 (!) and continues to sync (also reported by many other users on MS answers forum).
So, the whole thing seems to be totally screwed.
Any advices?
I wonder if a hard reset then resyncing with my Live account would work. I'm not sure if since I added the LinkedIn relationship after the initial transfer that is the problem.
So, I hardreseted and the problem remains. It is probably caused by some incompatible data from gmail (i gues it could be HTC Sense notes about my facebook links on android). Most bizzare thing is, that it doesnt happen when you sync the same contacts directly with gmail. Hotmail is definitelly ****ed up and nobody at support is trying to solve this. There is couple of really desperate guys at MS forums.

All I did was to setup my Contacts in Windows Live uploading them from Outlook in the first place. Then I cleaned them up and finally I added my Facebook account.
The phone automatically matched more then half of my contacts and linked their accounts. I needed to manually link some of them because of accents in their names, but that was not a problem.
i think i may hit some these problem when i install windows phone 7 (currently running android). im looking at sorting out my calenders and contacts and need some advice. here is my setup:
i have 7 email accounts i want to sync with my phone:
2x windows live (1 main one and 1 work one)
2x google mail (1 main one and 2 work ones)
1x yahoo 1
1x ISP (virgin media)
1x work
currently i use outlook 2010 to send/recieve mail from all of them, and manage my contacts that i use. the contacts are managed as follows:
main gmail: phonebook contacts (i.e. everyone i have a phone number for)
work gmail: no contacts
yahoo: online addressbook with outdated contacts (not managed through outlook)
ISP: no contacts
work: no contacts
work windows live: work contacts (email only)
main windows live: a mix of everything, some outdated contacts
on top of this, my facebook and linked in accounts are linked to my main windows live account.
for calenders, i currently run 2, 1 from outlook, and 1 from windows live. the outlook calender is automatically synced with the main gmail calender through the google calender sync app on the pc.
my questions are:
1. what is the best account to have the 'phonebook' contacts in
2. does windows phone 7 merge all addressbooks into 1 big address book
3. if i wanted to kep my contacts/calenders synced between all my email accounts and my wp7 device, how could i go about this?
4. if i had the same address book in each mail account, would i end up with multiple contacts/multiple details in my address book on my phone?
the reason i have so many email addresses is a do freelance work on the side of my studying, and i have a seperate email account for each client i do work for. i also use things like yahoo groups and the google services.
i suppose an additional question would be:
5. can i merge all the email account into 1 account, and seperate the emails into groups (this would need to be done on the pc and on the phone). this would probably cut down my email accounts 4!

1) You can use your personal Windows Live account as the default. It works great for having your main contacts (phonebook) and calendar synced.
2) No, you get one separate Tile for each account so you can pin it to the start screen and see the number of unread emails per account.
3) I would try to cut them down to two at the most. One for Windows Live and one for Gmail. Having too many would be a PITA and bothersome to keep tabs on.
4) The phone will automatically match contacts and their details from different account. If you find that some are not linked, you can always do it manually. This feature works great, either automatically or manual adding.
5) You can configure you main Windows Live account to retrieve mails from other account and have them separated by folders. You can even send mail using those accounts.
You can also have your two WL account merged and have one Gmail account retrieve mail from the other and keep. This way, you will end up with just two separate account, one for WL and one for Gmail.
Hope this helps.

i think it does. i suppose one of my other concerns is that i dont want all of my windows live contacts in my phonebook, as they are email only. is there a way of only listing contacts with phone numbers? i think what i am going to do it set up mail forwarding, and then have the mail sorted into folders in my windows live account. i have aquired a lot of contacts over the years and im sure i dont need/use about 75% of them any more!
