for to receive better answer... please post the characteristics of your device..
ROM
KERNEL
BASEBAND (ITS THE RECOMMENDED BASEBAND?)
and based in your specification of "dbm" i supossed that you are talking about WIFI strength, but you donĀ“t written it

Lordmod kernel 5.1 + -50undervolt
P_26.09.04.11_M2
I write this what is in settings--> about phone --> status --> singal strenght
i cant choose P in baseband too U ;/
i went to shop and when on 3g i dont have signal 0 asu, But when i turn on 2g i had 8 asu.

[Q] HTC Desire's 3G signal is much weaker than 2G

HTC Desire's 3G signal is much weaker than 2G.
I am at home, HTC Desire only has 1 to 2 levels of 3G signal, but full signal when turn to 2G. I use same SIM card on my Samsung i8000, 4-5 levels (5 is full) when in 3G.
How to fix the 3G weak signal of HTC Desire?

Are you rooted? If so, try flashing a different radio version as this can improve 3G speed and signal strength as well as Wi-Fi performance, and battery life.

have tried different versions of radio, no luck. which version of Radio is the best ?
2G has a greater range than 3g, I think.
When I'm in the middle of nowhere I always get a 2G signal even if I know there is a 3g tower closer than the 2G one I'm connected to.
I generally get better signal with 2G most of the time.

Hey guy,

sorry,
phones perform differently, also some phones give you a misleading scale on the signal level, there is no industry standard as to what signal level 4 bars is afaik. manufacturers have been known to fudge scales of all sorts on their devices to make it appear better than a rival product.
try to get both phones to report signal level in dBm to compare accurately.
I also get relatively poor 3g signal with my desire compared to some other phones i have had...looking at bars, have never compare dBm.

Bars are no way to tell how strong the signal really is, since i flashed the latest radio i have a decent 3g connection without any bars.
If you already tried different radios there is no way to fix it, different devices will preform differently under the same conditions, nothing to do about that.

which radio you use regarded as decent?
32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27, but please understand that that will mean nothing for your situation.

this is what I am using. no good.
By the way, to all.
What I mean 3G signal is for voice. the reception is poor for phone call in 3G, it sucks when doing phone calls, but no problem in 2G. I place my SIM card into Samsung i8000, reception is strong and phone call has no suck at all.

Won't switch to 1x?

Is there a way to make the phone switch to 1x in low signal areas? I always seem to drop from 3g to no service...haven't seen 1x since switching to the new 4.0.4 radios...
Have you tried flashing a different radio?

signals have nothing to do with signal bars
every OS, firmware is programmed to convert the signal strength into number of bars.... technically signals are radio waves measured in some ratio of power, amplitude bla bla (not an electronics engg).... measured in decibels. OS maps this decibels to number of bars based pre-defined logic, say signal strength from
-51dbm to -70dbm full bars
-71 to -80dbm 3 bars
..
.
less than 110 dbm no bars
bottom line forget bars just remember your operator sucks
or maybe you can hack into the system and change the logic to show full bars all the time irrespective of signal strength (if you really turn out to be a hacker dont blame me if your call drops in all 4 bars )

[Q] Network mode problem

Guys,
recently I'm having problem with my network bars, as it shows only two bars. I discovered that when I select the options GSM only the bars come full and is ok. But when I select GSM/WCDMA auto it loose some bars.
I have reset the phone but again same thing.
I'm on Stock Rom-not rooted / 4.2.2
Any idea what may be the problem or how to resolve it?
Thanks
That is normal gsm only will normally get a better signal than wcdma in lower signal area's.
I live in a low signal area and have to have my phone on gsm only or i won't have signal or I'll get dropped calls.
Thanks a lot for info.
So there is no problem with phone, but signal. I live also in area that have low signal for sure.
Thanks a lot.

Yes no problem with your phone mate, when your in a low signal area switch to gsm only, not only will you have better signal but it will save you some battery too.

3g vs lte

hi guys, one quick question:
in my office with 3g i have 10 asu while with lte i have 90+ asu. Which one will consume less battery ? thanks
If my calculations are correct, your converted 3G signal strength (in dBm) is not even usable and your converted LTE signal is pretty good.

so you suggest lte ? even for battery in this case ?
I'm not a cell phone guru so I can't say for sure (someone else can chime in that knows more).
Do you have you phone set to automatically connect to the available networks or forced 3G?

Low reception

just wondering has anyone else had low reception problems on there fold I've got Australia version SM-F900F ..
I've reset network connections and changed deferent sims, but i can't get to LTE+ no more and seems to be one bar less than my p30pro ...
ive had a look threw SIM card status its -101 dBm 39 asu ... I've imported from Australia to new Zealand ,i would presume it be same reception but looks like not ?
unless i flash another modem /firmware might help ??
thanks
