[Q] how to change oxygen boot anim? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i can't find a bootanim.zip to replace. i want to put the one from insertcoin (sense v3 rom) in there.
also, anyone have a link to that rom customiser site?
searched the oxygen thread for "bootanim" but no results.

just copy using terminal on your phone the bootanimation.zip to /data/local
use this command
su (then press enter)
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/bootanimation.zip (then press enter)
then reboot your phone to check
works a treat for me have done this on oxygen and dev-null roms and works fine.
from what i understand this doesnt replace the default animation the rom looks at /data/local first and if it finds a bootanimation it ignores the default one in the rom

ta mate. if i get my phone working properly again (long story from other threads) then i'll give that a shot

I like it.
I also like your boot animations, but i do not have the required tools to install them. I've tried, but my older pc just can't handle it.
Keep up the good work.
theres no need for a pc to install the boot animations... dl it to your sd card, name it bootanimation.zip, and use the terminal (or some root expoler app) to move it to data/local
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot
(terminal commands)
adb is just easier

Thank you! I'm going to add these instructions on all my bootanimations.
Is it possible to do this with CM 4.2.15.1? If not do you know of another way? Thanks for your time. : )
dudeee, I like everything. Okay, if it's not too hard, I'd like to request this as a bootanimation: the droids walking down the stairs. Would that be possible? It'd be prettyyy sweet.

[Q] Boot Animation Troubles

UPDATE: SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Much thanks to everyone, esp Zerf!
Okay, So I spent about half the evening last night trying to figure out how to change my boot animation, and I can't get it. I was able to do it before I moved up to Froyo (8.1 leak), but now, nothing. I tried the fix posted elsewhere in these forums, and it didn't work.
So here's what I want. I want the "rotting apple" boot animation from droidboots.com, and I want the "droid" sound to go with it.
First person that comes up with a zip file of only the boot ani, nothing else changes, that I can install in Clockwork Recovery that works, I'll donate $5 to their beer fund. Bonus happy points if you tell me how you did it.
I'm tired of failing, and would just rather it work. PLEASE HELP!?!
Nobody wants to make an easy $5?
I will admit I am much too lazy to actually go out and find the files, but chances are if you've been working at it, you've got 90% of the work done already. Since you've got CWM installed, this should be cake.
1. Boot into CWM recovery, and go to partitions
2. Mount /system
3. go to your desktop, and copy your bootanimation.zip (rotten apple) and android_audio.mp3 (droid sound) files to the same directory as your ADB install
4. Open a command prompt, go into the directory with ADB+the files just mentioned are located, and copy/paste (or just type) the following items:
a. adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/
b. adb push android_audio.mp3 /system/media/
5. Reboot your phone and enjoy.
6. Donate the $5 to ihftp69's SkyRaider beer fund.

They actually don't go there anymore...they go in /system/customize/resource and they need to be named differently...

Odd, when I flashed SkyRaider 2.2, the files were located there, and when they were replaced in the same location with new files the animations changed properly.
The problem is, for whatever reason, when it changed locations, they changed the file name format. It should have been a simple name change, but it's not, ADB push does nothing but give a blank boot up. I screwed with it for about two hours the other night, and came to the conclusion that I'm:
A) Not knowledgeable enough to do it myself
B) Too Stubborn to let it go and use the Generic one
C) Not going to screw up my phone by not asking for help.
So, thanks for the try!
What flavor of ROM do you have? skyraider needs bootanimation.zip to go into /system/media.. I believe for the original 8/1 leak it's under /system/customize/resource
If you have ROM Manager installed, then go to download ROM and under Ihtfp69.. choose Goodies for 2.2 and you have an option to download a few different boot animations.. with or without sound..
try one of these first and see if you are able to make a switch.. if yes.. then report back.
I'm running the 8/1 froyo update, I've been trying under system/customize/resource with VZW_bootanimation.zip as the file name, as it was stated in another thread that this is the proper way to do it on the 8/1 leak..... I even went so far as to completely copy the "stock" animation, and move all the images, rename them, and make sure all the settings are correct, and trying it that way, nothing.
I JUST did this and it worked for me. I am on the 8/1 2.2 leak as well.
Plug in phone
reboot to recovery
Code:
adb reboot recovery
Once booted in to recovery do
Code:
adb shell
mount -a
It will give you this error. Thats fine (It's just saying it couldnt mount the sdcard which we dont need right now.)
Code:
~ # mount -a
mount -a
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk1 on /sdcard failed: Invalid argument
mount: mounting /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 on /sd-ext failed: No such file or directory
now type exit to get back to your computer prompt.
Now push your bootanimation.zip you want to /system/customize/resource
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource
now now get back in to adb shell and type
Code:
cd /system/customize/resource
then ls *.zip and it should look like this. l = lowercase L
Code:
/system/customize/resource # ls *.zip
ls *.zip
bootanimation.zip VZW_bootanimation.zip
Now we want to rename the vzw boot animation to .back to save it
Code:
mv VZW_bootanimation.zip VZW_bootanimation.back
Then we want to rename the new bootanimation to the vzw bootanimation
Code:
mv bootanimation.zip VZW_bootanimation.zip
OPTIONAL STEP: IF YOU DONT WANT THE DROID SOUND ON BOOT
Code:
mv Droid.mp3 Droid.back
type exit and adb reboot . It should now boot with your new boot animation.
You sir, are a GOD.
DM me your email, and I'll papal you the $5, or send it to wherever you choose!

[Q] Boot Screen

Ok so i have looked at all the other posts on how to change the boot screen animation, but none of them seem to work. My phone is running on Android 2.2. Does anybody have any ideas on what i should do?

so you have a bootanimation.zip downloaded to the folder you have adb at? and you followed my steps EXACTLY?
So is it still just showing the stock boot animation?

Code:
cannot stat 'bootanimation.zip' : No such file or directory
And i can see the file in the folder....so now what?

where are you seeing this (what directory) and what command are you trying to run?
Not sure what version of 2.2 you're running. I know on SkyRaider you can't put your boots in resource anymore. They now reside in /system/media. You'd need to:
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/
You can also push a custom sound to the same folder, outside of the zip. I'll also take this as an opportunity to shamelessly plug the boot animation I created for SkyRaider. It can be found in the Goodies section of ROM Manager.

So maybe i tried to many times or something.

[Q] Unable to reboot using terminal emulator

Hello Friends,
I am using DHD since last few weeks, i have downgraded it to 1.32 and can use superuser access. But now i have been facing new problem. i am not able to reboot using terminal emulator. is there anything missing? I was adding new font to my system fonts, but at the end of it we requires to reboot it, its simply said "not permitted!"
can anyone please help me in this regards!
Thanks in advance.
Are you on a custom rom?
I had a quick look in leedroid with root explorer and it seems the permissions are incorrect for /system/bin/reboot.
rwsr-xr-x where it should be rwxr-xr-x
-----
Someone Swyped my idea.
Using Unity 1.29,have checked my permissions on /system/bin/ reboot -rwxr-xr-x root shell, busybox is also good tried
$ su
#reboot
and get "not permitted"
I know i could just use the buttons but would like to be able to do it from the terminal, checked on a nandroid backup of CM7.03 and the command works from terminal, anybody any ideas how to get it working? Its got me completely stumpted!!!!!!!!!!!!!
also happens to me with Revolution HD
Try from the terminal
$su
#reboot -f
BUT when using a gscripts reboot doesnt work???????????
I have to use the command busybox killall system_server in the script????
Try it and see how you go

[CWMR ZIP] ICS Keyboard backlight fix

First off, I can't take credit for this. ninthsense and etherfish discovered the missing information in the ICS files. There are missing permissions for the keyboard backlight in the boot image, and the actual file that controls lights, /system/lib/hw/lights.n1.so is missing some stuff.
This also fixes force-close related freezes by setting the default.prop to insecure and debuggable.

Now with CWM goodness!
DOWNLOAD LH2 file for official ICS RELEASE
Awesome!
does not work for me...
Worked perfect here, that fixes my only serious issue with the ICS rom.
I'm glad i was of some help . My first significant contribution to android. Will have to get back home to test it.
does not work for me either. used Root Explorer to take the "lights.n1.so" file from download and overwrote it at /system/lib/hw/lights.n1.so, and rebooted several times, and still got nothing

Overwriting the file won't work in my opinion. As these files are part of the boot.img and resides inside the ramdisk. So even if you change something in the ramdisk and then reboot you'll return to the original version.
I guess the only way is to flash the boot.img with the files inbuilt in to the ramdisk. So the boot.img posted by "Nardholio" should work.
Mhh just copying the .so file does not work for me to, even after wiping the caches.
I'm going to try this boot.img thing later this day.

To fix it, just copy the version from Gingerbread over the ICS version and reboot. Note this requires root. The attached post contains the file you need and an optional boot.img mod that will fix force-close related freezes and will enable the keyboard light to be controlled by third party utilities.

Didn't work for me at first either after I copied and pasted it. But when I went through and opened up a Terminal on my phone to install everything (I always thought I had to use Ubuntu on my computer for it. I don't know why I never even thought of using a Terminal on my phone to do editing on it and all...) and went through the steps on the link (didn't clear my cache), and it all works. Just a heads up for anyone who might be as slow as I was
Both files are required then I guess. Thanks for letting me know.

confirmed working after both files were pushed. warning to others, do not wipe /dev/block/mmcblk0p9 if you have not verified that boot.img is on /sdcard via terminal emulator or adb shell:

Yea, i could use some help too, after re-writing over the existing file didn't work
OK guys here is the step by step guide :
I'm assuming that you're rooted and are on windows PC :
1. Install root explorer or root browser lite (free) from market. And copy the boot.img and lights.n1.so from keyboard_fix.rar in root of your sdcard(phone).
2. Launch the root explorer and Delete the existing lights.n1.so file from /system/lib/hw (probably you can keep a copy somewhere)
3. Copy the lights.n1.so from your sdcard directory to /system/lib/hw
3. Make sure that the file is presen/copiedt in the directory.
4. Download fastboot.zip file attached to the post and extract it in one of your directory on the pc.
5. Connect your phone through a usb cable and i'm assuming you've the usb drivers for your phone already installed on your pc.
6. Goto command prompt and change to the directory you extracted the zip file into.
7. issue the command "adb shell"
8. You should get a android prompt. Issue the command "su"
9. Issue cd sdcard and then issue "ls". Just to make sure that the boot.img is there.
10. Now issue the following commands:
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
11. Reboot and you should get your lights.
Copying the boot.img worked for me
For those who having trouble, look at the Link, posted in the OP
How I did it:
Copy files to sdcard: Use a network enabled file manager or email or drop box (or, or, or) to get boot.img and lights.n1.so to /sdcard
Setup ADB: Google "xda setup adb"
Boot into CWMR: Reboot phone, holding power down (Link: Get CWMR)
Choose in CWMR:
Mounts > Mount sdcard
Mounts > Mound system
Execute Commands on pc
Open Shell/Cmd
Type: adb shell
Type: ls
you should geht a file listening of your root file system
Type: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
Type: dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
Type: cp /sdcard/lights.n1.so /system/lib/hw/lights.n1.so
Choose in CWMR:
Wipe Cache
Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
Reboot system
That was the steps as I remember, no guarantee don't brick your device if you do: use one-click-ics-leak-tool and start from scratch

You are welcome. I also did it just before posting the steps and glad that the biggest bug for the leaked ROM is now fixed.
I see that the lights go off very quickly unless you keep pressing something. It's related to "Touch Key Light Duration" under "display" in the settings. But i see only 1.5 seconds which is set currently and 6 seconds. If i change to 6 it's too much.
Does somebody know how to modify this value according to whatever we need ?
Hello ninthsense,
perfect tutorial, keyboard light is working now.
Thanks,

Hummm is their gonna b a flashable zip for this ?
