Where are you typing the adb commands ? A common mistake is to run "adb shell" and then run the "adb push" etc at the $ prompt, which is actually a command prompt on your phone, so it won't work and will give you "permission denied".
What error message are you getting from the "insmod" command exactly ?

You don't need to run insmod if you're using gfree, because gfree has got that functionality inside it already.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Phone.2C_Set_SuperCID.2C_and_Turn_Radio_S-OFF and follow the procedure there.

Yes, if you're already rooted you can just use gfree via that link that I posted, which assumes you are already rooted. No need to undo what you've done already.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Background for an excellent explanation as to why "radio S-OFF" is much better, and safer, than the "fake" S-OFF through the eng hboot.
i seem to be having problems too but i have permissions and get SU
i seem to be having issues with gfree not giving s-off. have eng hboot installed and perm rooted.

Bell Desire Z ROM version 1.34.666.5
baseband version 26.03.02.26_M
Firts before all, I WILL NOT BE RESPONSABLE IF YOU'VE GOT ANY PROBLEM FOLLOWING THESE STEPS.
What to learn in this tut ?
- GAIN FULL ROOT ACCESS IN ADB SHELL easily, thanks to zergRush
- DOWNGRADE from a ROM compatible HBOOT 1.03 to a ROM compatible HBOOT 0.9 (and consequently avoid RUU Output Errors)
Thanks to mphi tuto, aparici help and zergRush I managed to do it whereas with other techniques it doesn't work.
Techniques not working to downgrade :
Installing a modified PG76IMG.ZIP (version has been modified to be after my current ROM version, modifying android-info.txt) with GoldCard and Bootloader Install
--> Bootloader loads and checks the zip on your goldcard, but after finishing to check it goes back to bootloader menu
Installing with the RUU by replacing the rom.zip in temp folder. I extracted rom.zip content then change version in android-info.txt, then recompress a new zip and replace the other by the new one.
--> Signature Version Error even if the ROM version is changed…
I guess it doesn't work because the phone is not rooted and S-OFF.
Working downgrade steps :
Download HTC Sync USB Drivers and the tools you will need here, including zergRush (found here) : http://www.mediafire.com/?z2l7n2gxznz6276
Download the HTC Official ROM which is hboot 0.9 here : http://www.filefactory.com/file/cbb...35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_183799_signed.exe
Back up your phone data on a SD card or something else
Shut down your phone then insert GoldCard in it and power on (Creating a goldcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954723)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB and select HTC Sync mode (also verify USB debugging is enabled).
Extract the tools at the root of your computer (example c:\tools)
Run Windows CMD and move to the tools folder, then execute these commands
Put the tool on your sd_card
Code:
adb push flash_image /sdcard/flash_image
Add zergRush to your phone
Code:
adb push zergRush /data/local/zergRush
Enter interactive shell mode
Code:
adb shell
Launch zergRush
Code:
chmod 755 /data/local/zergRush
/data/local/zergRush
The resulting output should be like this :
Code:
[**] Zerg rush - Android 2.2/2.3 local root
[**] (C) 2011 Revolutionary. All rights reserved.
[**] Parts of code from Gingerbreak, (C) 2010-2011 The Android Exploid Crew.

Now execute those commands :
Code:
cat /dev/mtd/mtd0 > /sdcard/misc.img
cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image
chmod 777 /data/flash_image
exit
Once you've exit from adb shell type this :
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/misc.img misc.img
Now the misc.img is in your tools folder. Run HxD.exe and select OK when prompted.
Open misc.img in the current directory, and change line 11 which contains the version number of your current ROM. Change it by number of the future ROM you want to install.
Changes will appear in red. Save the file to misc2.img.
Copy the img t the SDCard using this command :
Code:
adb push misc2.img /sdcard/misc2.img
Return to the shell where you're root
Code:
adb shell
/data/flash_image misc /sdcard/misc2.img
After this, run the RUU installer and let it do its work !
You should have succeed
Please send me your hboot version and your before and after configuration of roms before and after the downgrade or upgrade following this tutorial if you succeed in it !
Experimentations :
Being root in adb allows you to do things like those who are S-OFF. If you tried something, inform me by PM for me to add informations to this part of the tuto.

What are the differences between adb root and permanent root? Any disadvantages?
(also, think this topic should be pinned)
Doesn't work for me.

When try to flash 1.30.401.0 via RUU I get ERROR [131]: CUSTOMER ID ERROR

I've never met this error, but be sure to do all the steps carefully. I do them 2 times before it works (so first time, there was an error !).
I think the operation I missed was this one : adb push flash_image /sdcard/flash_image. Which is really important !
Repeat operations, be sure of what you do and if it doesn't work I hope we could find the fix for you !
Edit : check your Goldcard, there are lot of possibilites that error is caused by this one :
- GoldCard not in the device (you're not noob like this I guess xD)
- Bad manipulation while creating Goldcard
- Change the brand of your SD Card, try Kingston one which is perfect for it

Yes and no. We can install custom roms yes, but it's not permanent root it's only through adb shell and it's only tested working so far from actual operator roms first (t-mobile, vodafone) not sure if it works from generic stock down.

You know I was so inexperienced like you a few days ago. Like I said previously, read, read and read on forums to understand what you are doing.
How do you want to succeed if you don't understand the whole part ? It's not about copying the lines I put here, understand them and you will know what to do .
BTW about your errors, transfert is not good and it cannot find zergRush because something is going wrong somewhere in your files and folders I guess.
If other users can do it themselves and succeed, just give it a try later and be patient while learning !
PS : You know I'm french and I will not criticize you on your english speaking ^^

Yes root is indicated by # in the shell. What does it say when you want to remove apk ?
About your rom sorry I don't know.
I'm sure I was doing something wrong but like I would go into /system/app/ and type rm Stock.apk
It would say directory not empty.

Do I have to downgrade to unroot my phone back into stock? I used visionary perm root and I'm kind of scared something might happen to my phone. I mean everything is working fine. I'm running Virtuous Quattro ICS and everything feels ok. Does this apply or can I be directed elsewhere please.

No one knows what the hell visionary does to your device.
I'd say flash a stock RUU, should remove all traces of root.

help needed urgently ...
i followed the above forum but i got stuck in last step
....
Code:
> fastboot oem rebootRUU
Your phone should now reboot into a black screen with a gray/silver "HTC" logo on it.
Next we flash the Stock Rom. This may take a few minutes as it transfers the file to the phone then attemps to update (downgrade).
Code:
> fastboot flash zip StockRom.zip
In rare cases the flash stops and the user gets a warning to repeat the flash immediately - no panic, just run the " fastboot flash zip StockRom.zip" (only this command, not the rebootRUU one) again and it will work.
....
after this step some how i got error .. as per instructions i tried many times but no luck .. now my phone keep on restarting with four warning icons in corners with HTC icon ... any help will be appreciated ....
my phone mode is HTC G2
ooooh thats the strange ruu mode, its pretty easy to get out of.
first you need to turn your phone on, plug it in, open a cmd and run 'fastboot oem boot'
That'll get your phone up and running.
Then you need to download misc_version 0.4 push it to /data/local/tmp, get temp-root (run psneuter/fre3vo/zergRush) and run misc_version with:
./misc_version -r off
Then your phone will be back to normal.

. Now I should type this CID in a webformular at this link to reverse it. This formular is still working, but there is also a Excel-Tool on this page for downloading, which should do the same. So my CID like "035344534d49202010000073b900d494" was reversed to "00d400b9730000102020494d53445303".
This code I should input to this formular for creating a GOLDCARD, but it doesn't work anymore.
So I looked around and found this threat, where a goldcardcreator is downloadable.
In this zip-file is included a program named "SimpleGoldCard", which read a reversed CID from the cell. On a command-Line I typed in
Code:
gcard -c 00d400b9730000102020494d53445303 -r -o "GoldCard.img"
Than I putted in the sd-Card into the Card-Reader of my Desktop, formatted it, used the tool "HeX Editor", copyed (line) 00000000 to offset (line) 00000170 (including the 00000170 line) and pasted it to the SD-Card.
After that I hope to created a correct GoldCard.
2. After that I downloaded the files psneuter, PC10IMG.zip and root. But in this threat is written, that I have to extract "misc_version_01.zip". Where is this file? I searched in this forum and downloaded a file named like this. Are there Differences or is a special version needed? I copyed the PC10IMG.zip to the SD-Card and put this to the cell.
3. then I booted the cell again, connected it to the desktop and used the following commands to put the downloaded files to the cell
Code:
adb push psneuter /data/local/tmp
adb push misc_version /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell chmod 777 /data/local/tmp/misc_version
adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
adb shell
After that I should get the # - symbol instead of the $ - symbol which means, that I rooted the phone. But here is my first problem, I didn't get the # - symbol, so I don't have the permission to start the next programms.
4. Normally I would do next the following commands and then to reboot and flash the older Firmware.
Code:
/data/local/tmp/misc_version -s 1.33.405.5
exit
adb reboot bootloader
But when I reboot, the bootloader is looking for the PC10IMG.zip, is loading and checking this ... and gives me the information
CID incorrect!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.
Well, this is the next big problem.
Cold anybody tell me, where my mistakes are? I read 2 days in the forum, tryed a lot to get the final result, but now I don't have the time anymore to continue in this way.
THanks a lot. with best regards, Speedy8

well ... I searched again today ... and found the following threat, which was working on my cell-phone.
And also at the cyanogenmod-page you can find the relevant things to root the Desire Z. You can find it here.
Now I will first install the latest cyanogenmod, which is for the Desire Z not the Android 4, but at the moment newer than 2.3.3.
Thanks for answering, my Questions are answered.
With best regards.
