[Q] Reader on Sense ROMs for e-books - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know where the Reader app stores it's data ?
It finds my e-books , no problem, but if the cover is wrong ( my fault ), and I change it, Reader refuses to change the cover, even if cache cleared in Applications, or or even if cache cleared in recovery !
Is it somewhere in system or on sdcard ?
(I'm currently using the fab Kingdom ROM from RCMix)

the cover is applied to a book in a db(database), so you need to change the value in the db.
the db is located at /data/data/com.htc.ereader/databases/ereader.db (this is the location on my stock-ROM phone, but it should be there.)
within the .db, its in the ebooks table.
hope that helps

It's somewhere in /data/data/ ... give me a second, just checking my old posts....
Aha here we go! The database with the paths to the books/covers and all the meta information is in data/data/com.htc.ereader/databases/ereader.db

Thanks - that a big help

Tomtom Navigator and Map V605 help plzzz.

Hello, I have a legal tomtom v 5.21 installed on my BA. till now i was using a v562 map and ordered the latest cd of european & gb maps from the tomtom site. I got the Cd and I had run the whole setup on from my computer, followed all the instructions of adding GB / france maps onto my 2gb mmc card and it copied everything on the sd card and gave the msg Installation complete.
Now when i switch tomtom ON - on my ppc, it displays me an empty screen, i mean a greyed screen with a + ad - icons on the top left n right side and all gray i dont know y.
I tried to switch to my old map and it works fine, but when i tried to swtich onto the new one, it doesnt. I even tried to install the GB plus map tht came on the CD and it still appears gray. Can someone please help me, y is this happening, is there something wrong that i did. I mean i just followed the instructions on the cd.
cheers
Try deleting currentmap.dat from \my documents\tomtom and then run with the new maps again.
did you copy your Great_Britain_Plus-Map.cfg from your old map folder into your new map folder?
nop mate, i didnt copy the .cfg file. ill try it out today, do you want me to copy or not to copy. cheers
Install the new map, copy the old Great_Britain_Plus-Map.cfg file into the new folder - you may need to rename it because the configuration file should match the name of the map folder so if the map folder is Great_Britain_Plus_Map the configuration file should be Great_Britain_Plus_Map.cfg or if you map folder is Great-Britain-Map then your configuration file should be Great-Britain-Map.cfg
In my experience it is well worth deleting currentmap.dat from the \my documents\tomtom this file doesn’t contain anything of interest it seems to just remember the name and location of the map you last used, although it has just accrued to me that I don’t think this is causing your problems as this would normally cure a “map not found” error message!
To check that you have got the configuration file name correct run TomTom and then check that there is only one .cfg in the map folder, if there are two then you have made a mistake with the name.
The configuration file contains, favourites, history, home location and GPS setup
Hope this makes sense, difficult to explain on here!! 
Cheers Bluetba for the help, It worked but in a very diff way. I copied the map again on the the SD card, deleted the currentmap.dat file, but then tomtom wasnt able to pik up the map, u know when you get the map choice and you select the relevant map, tomtom got stuck there.
Lucky, i copied the currentmap.dat back to tomtom folder, then ran tomtom again, selected the map V605 and it worked perfect, dono whts wrong, but it shows me everything perfect.
But is V605 perfectly working, i read 2-3 comments that its not suitable, doesnt plan perfect. dono if you know abt it.. cheers anyway mate
Glad you got it working, bit strange though!
I had no problems with V605, well othing obvious that I can remember anyway and I use TomTom alot, and I would rather have an upto date road map than anything else anyway.
I am using V671 and that has an error in my area that has been introduced into this version, strange really but I did read somewhere that map makers introduce errors so that they can identlfy which version is which and where they came from.
Glad your sorted
Cheers
hahaha, i was reading a post where one of the users mentioned that he was going to manchester via the long flyover in birmingham.... and tomtom said - go straight - which meant, to smash into the concrete divider and fall down.. hahahah... strange..
well bluetba, do u know how can i add addresses to my contacts, i meant contact navigation. I cant see any program or icon on how to add address details to the contact. Cheers mate

Have you tried to install "Advanced Configuration Tool" software?
Than, under "Location" you could change the default directory to save image files..
Regards
GM
already tried without suc6, it always saves them to internal storage/ my documents???
think im giving it up,
trying to get photo save location out of my documents for days now.
tried lots of register editing and advanced config.
cant get them saved to internal storage/pictures
this is thing only thing i want to have working on wm6.5 then i love it.
but i searched whole forum cant find any solution.
think it always puts them to my doduments in internal storage, no matter what register i change

The camera saves to internal storage- my documents- my pictures, so how can this work ?
The picture viewer is based on picture and video viewer and not HTC album which most use, you canot default the picture and video viwer to storage card so here is the conflict.
I have the same Problem.
Changing the Location for the Titanium Picture would be the best .
Because Camera only saves to my documents - my pictures
But I did not find anything like that in registry. But I think it must be there somewhere
ok.I found a solution.Just go with a registry editor (like total commander) to HKLM/software/HTC/camera/image and find SaceFolder_0409.then change it to "pictures"
(that worked for me)
EDIT: IF anybody has problems, just tell me to upload that key

[Q] How does APPS2SD *actually* work?

Hey guys,
Been searching on this for a whle and haven't found the info I'm looking for.
How does the custom APPS2D actually work? By that I mean, what is it really doing? I know it's copying the app(s) to the partitioned ext2/3/4 area of the sdcard, but how does it know *what* part of the app to move as it seems something is always left on the phone.
I'm currently running AdamG's OpenDesire 3.0.5 (nice) and thanks to the script provided by msdl28712 in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=748529, I can see that APPS2SD is saving me "188MB". Pretty nice.
But my internal memory is still going down. I started out at about 148MB I think. I'm currently at about 115MB free. Of course, that's fantastic - but it sort of suggests that, even though I've downloaded loads of apps to the sd card, they will always leave some footprint/config/data on the internal memory of various sizes (as I can see it on my info page).
So really, I am still quite limited in the number of apps I can store. Even though I gave myself a nice big 4gb ext4 partition, I'll still hit a limit because of the footprint data left behind on the phone's int memory even after "copying to SD".
Is this right or am I way off?
Although I have no Actual knowledge of what you ask I will say this. The phone needs to be able to function if there is a SD card installed or not and therefore it must have info about the apps installed in the phone memory. I would imagine its very similar to windows and the windows registry. The registry will always be stored on the windows (Phone) storage and the program resources can be anywhere. Therefore when you install an app there will always be a small amount of phone storage required to link to and handle the operations of that program.
All in my opinion.
Some apps, not all, I've found in multiple places on my Eris.
I found it strange that the market wasn't consistently placing them in both places ( actually, that's a good thing, cause it would eat double the space ), but that led me to believe that the developer who wrote whichever particular app that was being stored in 2 location, wrote it to store to additional "backup" location ...
For example, say you download an item from the Android market, and it puts it in the "data\app" folder location. Well, I'd also find another copy in the root of the "cache\" folder ....
The way I found this, was I wondering where the heck all my memory was going, especially since I'd recently installed/uninstalled some various music player apps, but the space wasn't being freed up. I went digging through various folders looking for items, and low and behold, started finding the duplicately stored APK files. I started removing them, and I've monitored that files contents on a regular basis since, which has helped.

First of all you are answering a quite old thread(hint: 8th august)
Second to clarify no, the app is not installed to several locations.. The apk file in the cache is just the one, that the market downloads in order to install it(hint: cache) upon installation the file is placed in the /data/app folder or in case you are using a2sd/a2sd+ it will be placed in /sd-ext/app(the phone still think it is in /data/app, but it wont take up space on the /data partition)
After the installation the downloaded .apk file is sometimes left behind, but as the /cache partition have a fixed size, this won't take up any space for app installs(/data) when the space is needed on the cache partition for another download or something else, the file is eventually deleted.
edit: for people, who want to know the answer to OP, please search I and many others have wrote it over and over again in this very forum.

[Q] Gallery3D raises the dead...

I searched as best I could, but couldn't find a match to this particular issue.
I do have a rather weird issue with Gallery3D, that I've noticed after switching to OpenDesire, in 4.0.10 and 4.0.15.
Until recently I have been using various Sense based ROMs, where photos taken with the phone are stored in DCIM/100MEDIA and I always just used HTC's gallery app.
Now I'm on OpenDesire 4.0.15, which stores phone photos in DCIM/Camera, and uses Gallery3D to display them.
The thing is, when I try to display photos from DCIM/100MEDIA, taken earlier on various sense ROMs, Gallery3D shows some completely random photos instead. The thumbnails in 100MEDIA display correctly, but when I tap any thumbnail, it expands to the grainy fullscreen version, and is then replaced with a sharp and refined version of *another* picture.
It shows photos that I have taken with this same handset, but imported to my computer and deleted from the phone long ago. That is, photos that aren't even *on* the SD card anymore.
I have tried the following:
1. settings > apps > manage > Gallery3D > force stop + wipe data and settings
reboot
no luck
2. rename 100MEDIA to something else.
repeat 1.
no luck
3. Create new folder DCIM/Test
Copy files from DCIM/100MEDIA to DCIM/Test
The copies in DCIM/Test work well.
Hm.
4. factory reset, wipe cache + dalvik
reflash OpenDesire (4.0.15)
no luck
5. Made a flashable zip with most recent Gallery3D.apk from this thread and flashed it over the one included in OpenDesire 4.0.15
No luck (yes the update succeded, different file size )
Ok, fine, so I kind of solved the problem in attempt number 3, right? Well, yeah, except that I'm uncomfortable about my phone magically raising photos from the dead that I've deleted long ago.
Have you guys got any ideas or input?
Well, your deleted pictures aren't exactly "dead", they just aren't in the master file table of your SD once you hit delete, but they can definetly read. But to avoid going offtopic, you can simply back up your files, format the SD card and restore the files. Everything should be ok.
As to why this happened, it's possible that your Master File Table got corrupted somehow (or Android's MediaManager isn't reading it correctly). But I can't really say much since it's difficult to tell what the real cause is (perhaps you didn't "safely remove"?).
Either way, reformatting should help. And keep using Gallery3D from that post, it's one of the best around
Reason
Even i experienced the same issue,,but couldn't find the solution,,,,but i figured out why it is happening..!!
My gallery 3d app was showing the images i took long back which are no more in the SDcard..!!!how can it be possible..??
The reason is,,
>When we delete the file in the sd card,,the operating system will just mark that that memory location with some special character ,,in fact the data will appears to be deleted but truly i won't ...!!
>when we add new files to the file system that space will be overwritten ,,,by the new file...!!
>So in our case the file which appears as the thumbnail is in exact same memory lactation as the old deleted image....so the thumbnails will be stored in different location as the cache,,,,,
>this is the reason why it show the thumbnail but when we click on that,,, it shows the original data resides there....!!
> its just a bug in the Gallery app
>And it will happen only when we delete the files inside the gallery app...
>Next time try to delete the files in Some file managers like Astro

[Q] What needs to be on SD?

Over the past 6 months I have collected a plethora of "****" on my SD card, lots of apps that left behind empty folders, logs, etc. I want to "fresh start it" and wipe everything off of it to eliminate all the folders that are no longer needed. Yes, I'm a app downloader/uninstaller, lol and as I'm sure some of you know leaves behind a trail of crap on your storage medium.
My question is, what does the SD card HAVE to have left on it (if anything) for the phone to operate correctly? I am Rooted/S-Off/SkyRaider 3.3.
Do i need to leave update.zip for instance on it, pictures i can i move to my Linux box, but I would hate to format the SD only to find out I just borked myself by removing a crucial system file the custom roms or rooting need.
I would also move my RomManager backup to my LB as well, just thought of that....
Anyone know?
i would leave clockwordmod folder, android.tether, android, and titanium backup folder..i mean thats what i have and would keep on my phone...I'm sure your setup is similar.
Thank you! =)
Damn good post. I went ahead and wiped my SD as well through clockwork. I saved my pictures and stuff to my desktop and then retransfered from there. What really sucks is organizing my pictures/music/media/ Sometimes when I switch ROM's I forget the camera auto saves pictures to internall emmc folder. What would be prime is to have it auto sync with a service like drop box.
so... we dont need :
"update.zip"
data
permissions log
blackberry? (never understood this being on my card)
etc...
i just formatted card via settings - storage - card format...
it took like 2 secs... and i have 3-4 gig of music on there...
seemed too fast for a format...
only 2 files it left on card was android.secure and lost.dir
i am re-adding some files i need, but wondering if your list above is the only "neccessary" files - obviously i'm adding my backups but i'm nervous cause theres a ton of files i'll be "missing"
i do have it backed up on 2 pc's, so i guess i'm covered...
hoping this helps - really just want a fresh canvas to work with...
