I wrote a home replacement app for android devices. Because of some special permission, this app must be installed as system app. The devices are rooted.
I installed this app as system app on a Samsung Galaxy Tab and a Motorola Defy. Therefor I remount the /system/app folder. After this I push the apk file in this folder. After I reboot the device, the app will run.
I also tried to install this app on a HTC Desire HD. But when I reboot, the apk file will be deleted. The logcat prints out the following:
"WARN/PackageManager(1316): System package <system package> no longer exists; wiping its data"
I don't know why I can't install this app as system app and why it is deleted. Can anyone please help me? Where is the mistake in my install-routine?
Do you have S-OFF? I think that might be the problem.
Thanks. Now, with S-OFF it works.

I'm on Fresh Evo and the video camera force closes....
So, i tried uninstalling the htccamera and installing the camera.apk from CMs rom, since that camera is much better than htccamera.
Anyway, I've tried putting the apk on the sdcard and when I click on it to install, it says "application not installed."
If I try moving the apk to the system/app folder I get an error "java.io.filenotfound/system/app/Camera.apk(permission denied)
I've tried pushing and pulling from adb, also with errors.
I'm fully rooted, is there something I'm missing? a Checkbox somewhere? I've allowed installing applications from unknown sources, so that's not it.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
I don't know if it will work for the camera, but when installing a system app, I use root explorer (which isn't free from the market) to mount r/w permissions in the system/app folder so that I can copy and paste the app inside that folder. Then I long press the app and click on permissions, then only check the boxes for Owner/Read, Owner/Write, Group/Read, and Other/Read. The app then installs itself when I reboot the phone.

Downloaded Root Explorer, finally was able to copy the camera.apk into the system/app folder. Success there, but...
Changed all the permissions like you said, then clicked on the apk to install it. A window opened up with an install button, clicked it, and then it came up with the message "application not installed." I rebooted and it looked like the camera installed, it showed up in the app list, but when I click it, it force closes, comes up with an error "we're sorry, camera has closed unexpectedly, com.android.camera, please try again.
Any ideas on how to get passed the force close. It's doing exactly what the htccamera would do when I tried to use the video camera.
Thanks in advance.
Hello everybody,
I'm currently on LeeDroid HD v.3.3.3 a2sd.
I want to remove some apps which I don't use. I read a couple of threads on this subject and in most of them the proposed method was removing the .apk files from /sd-ext.
1. Does the described method above removes COMPLETELY the specific app from my phone? If so, then the installation process of an app (via Market) is equivalent to simply copying the appropriate .apk to /sd-ext ?
I don't think this is right.
What is then required to completely remove the app?
2. Are the 'adb install' and 'adb uninstall' equivalent to 'install' and 'uninstall' in the application manager in the phone?
I would be glad if someone would help me to understand the essence of the subject.
Thanks alot,
Alexei.
removing an .apk from /sd-ext will completely remove it from your phone and when you install an app from the market it will put the .apk in the /sd-ext (for your rom anyway).
the only reason for deleting .apk s from /sd-ext is if they cannot be uninstalled in the usual way (i.e. they came with the rom)
hope this helps

Try this http://androidcommander.com/, you need Android SDK for it to work (and java JDK for the SDK to work lol). All you do is plug in your phone via USB, select the apps you don't want and delete them. And you're done.
Manual with Room explorer.

Yes, you are right. Downloaded an apk file and just pushed it to /sd-ext. It is appearing as being installed.
Thanks for the clarification!
After you delete app apk's, I would suggest that you reboot into recovery, wipe dalvik, reboot into OS.

In my haste on my freshly rooted Nexus, I used Titanium Backup to uninstall some apps I don't use that I know I can get from the market if I ever wanted them, but I got a bit quick and uninstalled the stock Email app instead of freeze it (in case I ever wanted to use it). I did a factory reset but that doesn't bring it back so my question is, can anyone post the apk and tell me where to put it to get it back? I think the proper location is /system/app, is that correct? Thanks.
Yep, /system/app. There are two APKs with the Email icon: EmailGoogle.apk and ExchangeGoogle.apk. I've attached both as a ZIP.
Thanks a lot!
OK so I'm still a bit new to this. I used root explorer to mount /system/app as r/w and changed the permissions on the EmailGoogle.apk to rwxr--r--. I already have ExchangeGoogle.apk. I have enabled "allow non-market apps" in my settings but I'm still getting "application not installed" when i try to install it. What am I missing? I used the RootToolkit to unlock and root my Galaxy Nexus, but I do have some experience using adb from the past with rooting my Droid. Do I need adb to install this?

You won't be able to install it, just use a root explorer (such as ES File Explorer) to manually copy the file to /system/app, it should then show up as installed.
Ah ok. I did a reboot and it's still not in my app drawer.

I wasn't thinking; you'll need the ODEX as well. I've attached both files, just copy them both into /system/app and let me know if that works.
That did it! Excellent!
Hi,
I'm trying to remove google plus as I don't use it, but when I try to uninstall it in settings it only allows me to uninstall updates not the app ??
I'm running AOKP milestone 2

Or titanium backup to freeze the app or just uninstall it
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Removing the stock app will cause the Gallery app to crash as it's linked, just so you know
thanks for replies. The reason i wanted to uninstall was because i kept seeing Google+ in my running/cached apps but everytime i stopped it just restarted again sometime later
In the end i deleted the apk from /system/app. But this did not remove the app from the app drawer.
i then deleted the apk from /data/app too and rebooted and that removed it for me. I checked Gallery too and that still seems to work ok, however it did have to sync picasa again
i also read about another step to uninstall, something along the lines of running the terminal command "pm uninstall com.google.android.apps.plus" but that gave me a segmentation error, but it doesnt seem to have affected anything, i no longer see google+ in the running/cached apps
Wish i had known about titanium backup first. I went in and uninstalled Google Wallet too from there and everything seems fine! much easier...
cheers!
Hi Buddy,
Easiest and best way to be sure app has completely gone is to remove it via adb.
Open command line and enter the following commands then reboot:
Code:
adb remount
adb shell rm /system/app/example.apk
Be aware that these commands are case sensitive, if you need to see the correct names for the apps in your /system/app/ folder issue the following command and they will be listed for you:
Code:
adb ls /system/app/
Hope this helps buddy!
So I am rooted, got android lost installed, the app that offers some useful features in case your phone falls into wrong hands. However I've been struggling to convert the app onto a system app in order to prevent it being wiped out in case the unfriendly fellow performs a system wipe.
All attempts to convert this app and any other app into system app fails with error message 'no space on system storage' I've tried this using apps2sd, link2sd, root essentials and all failed annoyingly.
Is there any specific way to get this done on Android 11 on the OnePlus 9 series. I've had no issues doing this on my 7pro, 6T and OnePlus 8.
The op9 have dynamic partition with a where so far (system, vendor, system-ext) are write-protected. if you want to install an app as a system app you have to do it with magisk modul app systemizer and a therminal
That's extremely helpful. But after installing the module. Can you help with any specific method making an app a system app? I am kinda stuck on what to do after installing the module. Thanks a million.

Thanks a million bud. I got everything now. However I still couldn't systemize the app I wanted. The current version 17.5, is it compatible with Android 11?

Here's what happened. The Magisk module Systemize lost support from the original dev. You can no longer on Android 11 and up select the app from the list(because it doesn't list of does list but is random characters instead of names). HOWEVER, you can download the app APK from APKmirror.com or other sites, find the file path and copy it e.g. /sdcard/download/yourapp.apk go to Systemize in terminal by opening terminal and typing
Su
Systemize
(Select option 3) 3 - Systemize given apk
Paste the file path of the downloaded apk
Choose if you want system or priv-system
Voila

-install the app the normal way
-copy it's folder from data/app to somewhere you remember
-rename it to something clear with no space like "lost" (also rename the apk inside)
-uninstall the app
-open Mixplorer or any file explorer and give it root access
-go to system/app and paste that folder and give it 755 permission
-reboot
if still not work use the recovery file manager to paste on system/app (after mounting system)

System folder is read only. You use the Magisk module to Systemize. See my above post
