Keep original version of Radio when downgrade? Or overwritten by new ROM image?
( downgrade by thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003 )
I have official Gingerbread OTA, so hope i have newest official Radio.
I want keep this Radio, then use Radio S-OFF guide (not bootloader ENG S-OFF) and install custom ROM.
As far as i understand it, if you don't use the ENG-s off you won't be able to flash new Radios, which is recommended by most Chefs for best performance. But someone feel free to correct me

WHEN YOU flash any custom rom only re-writes kernel and rom
you´re going to keep your current radio mate
in adition for root your device with gingerbread 2.3.3 read about "gingerbreak method" you need it for obtain root access.

A clear step by step guide would be great.

Install ENG HBOOT (S-OFF) >>Step 2 - ENG HBOOT (S-OFF)<<
If your flashing a radio I strongly recommend >>Radio S-OFF<<
Then follow >>This Guide<<

No, he needs ENG S-OFF, not Radio S-OFF
Yes, as far as I know, ENG S-Off is must to have to revert (downgrade) radio.
Apologies, Eddie1506 is correct you only need ENG S-OFF.
However, I still recommend Radio S-OFF. If your unlucky enough to flash a radio that prevents root & downgrading, Radio S-OFF comes to the rescue.
thats only if you flash the OTA update if you flash the radio sepereately you dont loose root and S-OFF
You can't do radio s-off after upgrading the radio so best to do it before. If you don't you won't have any opportunity to downgrade the radio again if it gives you any issues. It's unlikely you will get issues but better safe than sorry.

is radio flashing neccesary before installing a custom rom?

Depends what the Rom is based on
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Hi,
Coming from HTC Hero running VillainROM 1.7 it did not take long before my DHD was rooted. Did Radio S-OFF; wasn't quite ready for the ENG. I thought I'd flash the radio but that did not happen without ENG. So my strategy is to have a backup of the current ROM, do the OTA and then revert to my backup via Clockwork.
I hope my strategy is OK.... but where is the OTA??
Thor
There are some problems with your strategy buddy.
If you flash the ota you will loose the clockworkmod recovery. Since you can't root stock 1.72 then you won't be able to flash it back again either. Since you have radio s-off all is not lost. You can get root back by flashing back to the older 1.32 ruu and re rooting. When you flash that it will revert your radio back to the older one however.
If you want to update your radio and nothing else you don't have a choice but to get engineering hboot s-off.
Ok, found a tool for ENG S-OFF that I can risk
Radio update then and check improvement in stock ROM before going custom.

Hello all
I've done a little researching, sorry if i've overlooked something.....
My question is, i want to de-brand my Orange DHD, to remove all the Orange crap that comes with it, and install a stock ROM, then maybe a custom ROM after.... so o i basically get the Radio S-Off then i'm good to go?
Would i need to follow this first?
(cant post outside links yet but here is the title: [TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide)
My handset info is:
Baseband: 12.28b.60.140eU_26.03.02.26_M
Kernel: 2.6.32.21-gf3f553d
Build: 1.40.61.2
Software: Same as above
Bootloader: 0.85.0007
Thanks for any help.
I'm not an expert by any means as I'm also figuring out how to do all the flashing stuff.
But this is what I "think" you need on top of the radio s-off.
The sequence I followed is as follows
1) install visionary
2) temproot
3) permroot
4) s-off through http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
5) radio s-off using your posted thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855403
6) install titanium backup through market and do a backup
7) install rom manager through market and backup current rom
something I did extra
8) install sms backup & restore through market and backup
I think from here, you should be ready to flash a new rom and radio
And the instruction for flashing should be on the individual thread the rom you are trying to flash.
Maybe you can update your own steps so that it can be a guide for newcomers including myself
Thanks for the reply, i am a little bit worried though as of the different kernel versions and software versions which you need to be on etc? or doesn't it matter?
AFAIK, the radio and custom rom should be compatible.
i.e.
You install a particular rom, the thread will specifically recommend which radio to install.
As for the kernel, it should be together with the rom.
So, you just need to flash the rom and radio, and you will get rom, kernel and radio unless you want specific kernel with different rom.
Then, you will just download just the kernel and flash it.
For me, the most impt this is first do a backup of your stock rom and data.
I've done it
I done the S-off and the rooting, put the 1.32 stock rom on my sd card and booted into the bootloader and installed it, running fine
Thanks guys, i might look into custom ROMS next, i do that via clockworkmod right?
I did back up the rom via cloclwork before i installed the stock ROM but i don't know if it backed up correctly, the file size is only 4meg :/
i am trying to turn Eng s-off so that i can flash a new radio to my phone
this will complete the requirements so that i can add the coredroid 2.3.3 v5 0r v6
i am currently running
rom-cyanogenMod-7.0.3-DesireHD
kerna-l 2.6.39 cyanogenMod
radio aka baseband- 12.39.60.19p_26.06.04.06_m
so to start off can anyone help me find the stock Rom for my dhd and so on..... THANK you
ON A MISSION
what is your build number i.e. Firmware?
if its lower than 1.7x just do ENG-OFF straight away...go HERE
if its 1.7x or greater, you need to downgrade first ... go HERE -- (downgrade, then root again to flash new ROMs -- use Visionary)
--When downgrading, you dont need to follow the whole thread since you're already rooted, and the thread explains how to get temp root to flash 1.32 RUU. so just skip to the part when you have to flash the RUU.
For 1.32 RUU, it can be found in the downgrade link.
For more things like ROMs, RUUs, Kernels, etc ... go HERE
Hi there,
I want to update to lollipop, and i install insertcoin last ROM, but i have issues in wi-fi and baterry because i´m not S-OFF to prepare my device to this ROM.
What is the best way, downgrade to Android 4.4 ROM, put it S-off with some method or downgrade to original Android 4.4 and then update OTA.
What is the bst choice and if someone can help me with the methods?
Regards
You can check out the first post here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2701376
I don't believe downgrading is an option if you're s-on. But you can flash the stock ruu for the last version you were on and ota. Or possibly flash a newer version ruu. (guessing about that... I've always been s-off, so haven't needed to use ruu's) But check in that thread.
And to s-off, Sunshine is your only option now.
Good luck!
If i buy the license to s-off, i only need to install the latest version of insercoin, or i need to update more things?
Regards
To s-off, you'll need stock, or a close to rom... Many use maximus. But not sure about newer versions... You might need an older version.
Then s-off with Sunshine and go Here...
