This is a little update to the mostly stock ROM I posted when we first got the NS4G. It is mostly the same, I updated the kernel to matr1x 1.2ghz cfs kernel. Its been working well for me. It is deodexed/zipaligned. It has dreamsforgotten's Quick Panel mod, so huge thanks to him for the time he put in porting it. I removed any apps that can be downloaded from the market, I think g-mail and voice are newer than the ones that came on the phone.
Here is another small update. I updated the market, tweaked a few things, and added the matr1x cfs kernel by mathkid95. It is oc'd to 1.2 at boot so setcpu is not needed.
ROM v.0.1.1
ROM v.0.1.1 w/Matr1x 1.4 and smartass
This new kernel still boots at 1.2, but it has a 1.4 slot also. It is also bfs.

SD card not mounted? Did I miss something simple? It booted up fine, looks like everything is working OK but no SD card. Mount SD is dithered out in Storage as well.

No sd card, like its not mounted? Try a reboot and see if that helps. My phone has been doing that since I rooted, before I even put this on it. A reboot helped.
*Wow, I guess you made it pretty clear your sd wasnt mounted :/

Sure enough - that worked. Weird. Hadn't noticed that in the 2 days since I've been rooted. I only noticed it because I went in to Titanium to restore apps and they weren't being detected. Problem solved I guess!
And thanks mikey - I tried other ROMs for non-4g NS and I can't get a data connection with any of them.
Any devs know what is causing the sd to unmount? I was having the issue just stock rooted also.

Your welcome My sd unmounted sometime earlier, I tried to take a pic of my kids and the camera told me to mount sd before using camera. Its happened a few times randomly. It was for sure happening to me before I ever flashed anything, so I dont know what it could be.
What benefit does deodexing do?
None. It just gives you the ability to theme and modify things. Some say it slows things down, others say its faster deodexed. We may see a theme or two in the next few days..its nice to have options til the CM guys figure this out. I was just trying to help, maybe get the ball rolling on things. Also, even if you don't want to flash this, netarchy's kernels are awesome, I recommend flashing one of those at a minimum.

Is this for the 4g only?
If so why not have a separate section for the 4g. Last thing you want is somebody who doesn't know the difference brick the n s.
Just a thought

Personally, I'm very happy you put this together. If nothing else, it validated for me that the other ROMS for non-4g ns are not going to work out of the box.
As I stated earlier, I had zero data services on multiple flashed ROMS. This is the first one that has worked flawlessly...obviously meaning there are definitely differences in some files for ns. Vs. Ns4g and ROMS will need to be tweaked for them to work correctly.
Thanks again for the work.

Mod's, I for one, would appreciate a separate Sprint/CDMA Nexus 4G section please. I've already seen a couple of our members unknowingly flash the wrong ROM and radios!
Yeah let's spread the Nexus S community some more, if anything we need the Nexus S community to stay together. OPs just need to label their post with what phone it corresponds to.
users should look at the title post date before flashing anything.. again, the OP is not responsible for any bricks or anything like that. flashing risks are upon the user.
if you split the Nexus S and Nexus S 4G community... it'll only be Sprint users and it'll probably be a deadzone whereas the main "Nexus S" forum would consist users from around the world with the only exception as the NS4G... you really want your own separate forum where it barely has anybody else? the only forum that would have a difference would be "Android Dev." Q&A/General/Themes/Accessories are the same.
I'm sure compatibility will come forward shortly. Netarchy's kernel for the Nexus S is compatible with NS4G, its in the same flashable .zip too. I don't see why ROMs wouldn't follow this. Just give it some time.
When going to 4g settings, i get a force close. Wiped all too

The chances of bricking by flashing wrong rom are pretty slim, afik. We will be fine with a single ns section. people will just have to read a little before they flash a rom.
That being said, has anyone found any issues with this rom yet? Other than it needs appwidgetpicker.apk added

Thanks for saving my phone!
Dunno what happened, but finally got mount USB storage to work. Long story short: THANKS!
I'm all in favor of keeping one forum for Nexus S/4G, but with clear labeling of what's compatible for the 4G. Would hate to split into two separate forums for reasons listed above.

Nexus-Sense Rom / Bacon For Your 4G
Bundled, Repackaged, & Brought to you by : Mish.Mash & BuellDogg
This is a kang rom. You all saw the video of the rom that was supposed to be finished by "BUBBY", but it was never finished. I had all but forgotten about this project until I read a review of the rom on another android forum. So again, I waiting excitedly for a release, & was still being ignored about whether this was still a viable project. Unable to stand the wait any longer, I dug around for many hours, a few days & nights actually until I hit pay dirt. Using specialized file search tools to dig around on sites like mediafire,4shared, etc., along with download directories of certain servers & web sites, I finally came up with what was needed to throw this rom into a zip ready to flash. I made a small edit to build.prop file, & repackaged everything till I got it going. Just like was reported by acs guys & the droid world review, wifi is broke & camera don't work. everything else works really good. I can take no credit for this other than all my time & snooping skills, & being able to repackage the files into a working rom for our Nexus S 4G's. I release this here for 2 reasons: (#1) MANY people have wanted & waited this for a long time almost 3 months. It was promised to be finished months ago, but was abandoned as a project. I thought the project was to good of a thing to just let it lay & die, because SENSE is nice to use, & it's fun to have ROMS to switch up, especially from other phones. (#2) Is I hope that a developer who is capable enough at rom cooking & hacking will take this 99% complete rom & fix the wifi & camera bugs. Wifi will scan & try to connect but then drops. Camera just force close or wont open. Maybe some good developer will help us out & finish this.
I cant credit anyone because the files are not named by owners, but I do suspect that this is the one done by BUBBY & forgotten along the way, since he is now working on many other phones & in hot water in the GS II forums. SO if this is what he started credit to him for getting it this far. Credit me for digging & finding the rom files, & repacking them to flash. & credit to BuellDogg who develops on other forums for helping me put it together to flash & making sure it works to install. If you can help finish the rom please do & keep us posted.
Here is how I installed it:
(#1) I Back up my current rom in recovery (I use raid zero) You can use whatever.
(#2) Wipe everything. data & dalvek caches.
(#3) Reboot. After the 1st boot up (which takes a few minutes) my phone wouldn't do much. I let it set a minute after booting, did a battery pull, then rebooted it again, & BAM it works good!
(#4) Do your setup with google accounts, etc. & have fun. Just remember the wi-fi & camera doesnt work.
I am not responsible if you mess up your phone! do a backup before you flash this rom. I use it & also put on my friends phone (works good) & my dev friend BuellDogg Flashed it & put it on his wifes phone & reports it's good to go. Hope you guys like it as much as me, & can appreciate how long I had to dig, dig, dig to come up with this stuff for me & you guys who wanted it so bad. If you have trouble I can try to help you here, or you can send ?'s to my email [email protected]
I am working with BD (BuellDogg) to make the rom even better, & I will update this posting with any new builds or updates for fixes, & changelogs so that you can know what is fixed & what is still broken.
*Rom Bugs : Wi-Fi & Camera Are Broke In Build #1 also Pulldown Status will say no service until we edit framework (fixing now) & some have reported Bluetooth not working.

Edit: issues I've found. MMS may be broken, slight lag in performance (overclock seems to fix this), WiFi and camera are broken as stated in the op. This isn't a complaint, I like this Rom. Just info for people that are considering flashing this but can't live with a few small issues lol

I am the one who wrote the review for MyDroidWorld, & I was under the impression that bubby, qbking77, & ACS didn't want this released until everything was fixed. Just curious if you got permission from those guys to post this?
On another note, if this is bubby's ROM, then it is VERY nice work. It works rather well, especially for a Port from another device.

No, I ask no permission because: I myself downloaded these files from open, unsecured sites, folders, & servers on the internet, then with help from a developer, I put this together, repackaged as a complete rom to run on nexus s 4g. Android is open source, free for everyone to use as they wish. + I said IF this parts of Bubby's rom then credit to him, & I say 1st in op that this is kang rom. I didnt try to make credit for myself that I made the rom, & told how I found & put together. No one asks cyanogen team to make cm kangs, they just use them because the source is open. Open to public for anyone to use. Bubby had said for months "will post tomorrow" "couple days" "1st of week" etc., then just abandoned the project. They answer NO questions here in Q&A thread, demo video on youtube, or twitter if this rom would still be worked on or not, & he forgot about it. Most of you guys might not have read here on xda or on twitter the dramas that Bubby is facing from the tmobile galaxy s II forums, but in short summary, those guys support him to make roms for their phones, they bought him the phone & a brand new laptop to do work, & he has not, & will not answer the people who spent the large amounts of money for him to have the stuff. & now they have an atty. to sue him & ask police to charge him for wire fraud. I am not telling this to talk bad about him, only to explain that he has many things on his plate much more severe & pressuring than this SENSE rom, so he forgot about it & us guys who wanted it bad, & would not answer about finishing thie project. He also tweets every few minutes about building CM rom for yet another phone, & he is not part of the acs team any longer, & on twitter he says he is teamed up & working with other guys on new CM for other phones. Never mentions Nexus Sense rom. So I found the stuff & put together for myself & share with everyone here who waited many months for this.

lol, only if you are better developer than Bubby, or BuellDogg, which I doubt big time, because BuellDogg is GREAT developer on other forums (he hate xda ).
But, I hope someone who is a good developer & rom cooker can fix for us.
Not being rude about you not being a better dev, just I know how good BD is & if you were good developer, you would not ask here if you could do something to fix.
Thanks in advance to any contributions. Oh, your welcome sir, thank you. No no no, thank you. No, thank you, NO! THAAANK YOU!

It has the settings for wimax and 3g. They work to my 3g is way better since using it.
Honestly, for all i know everyone has i this. Was trying to better understand net settings because a lot of people have not been getting the best they can, despite what a speed test says.
This is a library of simulated net settings, tests, results and how to simulate (thats the part I'm interested in, how to simulate them) i don't remember what is all included. It may out dated, it seems worth a glance.

It will be under com.android.sprint menu.
Choose above mentioned DATA DEBUG

Try ALL options to see which give your area the best speeds.
I waited to post this until I got feedback from others (seeing as its my first thread and I don't want to burn) who tried it and the results are in. EVERYONE that has reported back to me has confirmed MORE THAN DOUBLE their average 4g Speeds. Mine have almost tripled.
Screen shots coming. I haven't tested FE16 modem yet and so far my best results were on FD19 at a whopping 1400kB/s! Notice the capital b!

Just the op doesn't count.
I looked at the other thread and I'm interested in ANY new information that may or may not help sprints crappy speeds.
If you're not too put off by peoples negativity, I'm getting a modem error after entering my MSL. I would love to use your tweak, and would appreciate the help. I'm on cm9 a4 with fe16 modem.

I read elsewhere that the dialer codes are touchwiz specific. So you'd have to be on stock fe16 for them to work, i believe.
It was either that or they are a no go for ics yet, but i'm pretty sure stock fe16 will do the trick. May want to look that up.
lol, to prove your point, i haven't read the last few posts on page 1 before i posted, so I was not aware that this was discussed like it was.

AnyCut would have the same result, probably. Sometimes even though the functionality of the hidden menu is intact the user-interface is not. (I have the same issues trying to put AOSP stuff on my TW...)
Thanks for the morale boost and if I see/hear of another way to get it going I will update the thread and PM you.

I'm pretty sure my best 4g speed so far was in the 1.4 MB/s range. This doesn't mean that your speeds won't increase with a certain "mode."

I read elsewhere that the dialer codes are touchwiz specific. So you'd have to be on stock fe16 for them to work, i believe.
It was either that or they are a no go for ics yet, but i'm pretty sure stock fe16 will do the trick. May want to look that up.

Yes. I think you are finally on the right page, the dialer codes are stock dialer specific and that is what the shortcuts mentioned can help with. Even if a ROM is entirely stock except for dialer, the service codes are a no go.
I think I'll try to "catch it in the act" so to speak and see what the actual commands involved are. I'm sure the right use of a terminal emulator could get this done I just happen to be a different type of nerd...
Made these changes and my 4G is just greyed out o.o
Also, changing modems won't do anything to the settings right?
Edit: Got 4G to work. Running speed tests, but nothing seems very different. Getting 1.5 Mbps on stock EL26 but will run more
I am on the VeNuM ICE rom and all works well for me..Thanks Kebetz

Dude, i gotta say... i had my doubts but effin "A" man!! what a tremendous increase in speed and connectivity. I'd put up some screenshots but i didn't even bother to take before pics.. but maybe i had one from a couple weeks ago. I'm actually restoring my AOKP backup right now. I had to go to a Wiz rom just to test this and it blew me away. I live 50 miles south of Houston, TX and it was hitting a server in Wichita freakin Kansas and consistently hitting 5mBps+ could not friggin believe it...
Thanks. Much thanks
You are welcome, sirs.
I was starting to get frustrated because it is sooooo easy to test but everyone dismissed it so quickly. Ive been using these for a while now and always have good results. Here are todays, been testing a few other settings that Im not comfortable posting yet.. not until they prove solid. Note how close Im getting to WiFi speeds...

Those Extensions that I mentioned work best is moderate coverage and are designed to keep your signal when you rightfully should. You may try tightening it up to
EntryRx/CINR/Delay -99/5/30
I find these to provide a more usable connection when I have poor coverage.
I need someone else to take a look at this, please. I am not on a team, and a novice at best. I just finished cooking my first rom. Everything worked with exception of Contacts (and phone since they are connected). I need an experienced devs help.

What did you take out/add to the rom for you to get FC?
see thread here, just took out a variance of these. Added AOSP email and exchange.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1386846&highlight=+info+removeable+system+apps
I am trying different variants, like re-adding the stock email and exchange, but not even a boot after i do this...
All AOSP system apps won't work with TW
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Yeah if you added AOSP contacts to a tw based rom thats probably what's causing you fc.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Please do some research before you cook roms. You could do the same exact thing you were explaining without cooking a rom.

Thanks for getting my back. I did a lot of research, for the last few months or so. I only removed bloat system apps from the ROM. I agree, could've been more descriptive, but I didn't want to list like 60 apps and take up space. Now, the contacts that were in the system are TW based. Everything was taken from datajosh's FF18 stock rooted deodexed, and then themed from ev1lart toxic theme that I ported over form the sgh-t989. Everything worked with the exception of Contacts as stated above. I have since put everything back the stock exchange and email back and tested, but same problem, and after doing so the SystemUI wouldn't function correctly. So i rolled back to original to still have contacts FC. I was hoping maybe an experienced dev wouldn't mind downloading and taking a look. Maybe see something I had overlooked is all.
Also, forgot to mention that I am in the process of re-themeing

Have you tried replacing all the files at once: systemui.apk, both framework files, phone.apk and contact.apk from stock yet then work your way back from there? Also, clear cache & davlik cache.

Ok, I know I lose track when I've tried too many things...
Have you flashed totally stock rooted and only add contacts yet? Then maybe one app at a time without messing with ANY sytem files like systemui, framework etc?
Oh, btw you really need to try the Autoapktool from here, make sure you get 204a:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577025
I've fought with apk's for a long time and come to find out, there's a frickin corrupt .9.png file or something else somewhere not allowing me to compile correctly even though it's looking like it is. The trick is anything you decompile, it pops up a status window letting you know if the decompile went well. It's a pretty advanced tool and supports ICS.
BTW: How noob? You're double checking/setting system permissions when you push apps correct?

OK. I have all sorts of tools. Autoapktool works great decompiling, but not so good with recompiling. Agat63 does some awesome work though, he has mad skills. I wouldn't be anywhere without all the great devs here. I use the original apktool for most, but there is a new ics apktool I use (apktool for ics basically. These two I use exclusively for de/recompile, unless I just want the res really quick. I use auto in order to create flashables and such.... I have tried stock and tried to add via root explorer individually. Once again, contacs is a no go, and neither is systemUI. Also tried pushing using GangsKidz kitchen. Pushes the right way every time. But, still no joy. Dazed is going to take a look to see what he can find, but for now I think I am just going to start over.....

Thanks. We would have nothing if it weren't for ev1lArt. He did the majority, and created all the icons, I just took them to our device and applied them. I created a theme, but the testing of it went just as well as my ROM, so it is on hold until I find out which exact apk(s) is(are) f'd up. I have also cleaned it up quite a bit.

I believe if it will be a theme that we can try out, that would be a nice option. If it is going to be entire rom based on that theme, I'm not certain how that will be recieved but you just never know.

I errored out in swlite said it couldn't open com port.
So I used odin, couldn't load back up rom to set usb back to abd so my odin had both coms open. When I flashed in odin it flashed successful but other port said fail. I booted up anyway. Wifi works. Don't know about network though. Maybe i500 radio?

I deodexed and debloated most apks. Rooted and busyboxed etc. And lightly themed (imgs only no mods yet)
I messed up the first time in pushing deoapks, so I had a bunch of fcs. So I used odin to get back. This time only one com connected so everything was fine, since y'all already got it flashed id suggest flashing through odin.
I got like 8 hrs of hw to catch up on. My son had a bithday weekend and I didn't do school. Ill pull my system and odin tar it for y'all later when I got a free hour.

Totally guessing on this, but I don't think its a problem with the radio as much as authenticating with the network. Mine shows that its getting a broadband signal, but always says connecting. Verizon had me manually enter an Akey and change some CDMA settings, but still no luck. Found that some Facinate users were having the same issue, and had to have a DMU (?) reset. Thats all well over my pay grade...

CDMA home SID
80
He said the 80 was wrong had me change it, I THINK it was 5577...no promises. BUT, just got my new phone programmed and it has 80 so....
Also had me enter a new Akey...29 digit #, and it rotates and is phone specific according to the tech.
I will go back into it on both phones and compare the settings, see if anything is different...report back in a few.
Ok, only thing different was MEID# and ESN#...probably not much help there.

I was very sad to see Steve move on, but I'm happy for him and his Note3. If the spouse decides to upgrade from the Note2 we will definitely check out whatever SS is doing.
I decided to take the plunge - yesterday I flashed Wicked Sensations, with a bit of an experiment. I did the nandroid, the wipes, the install all on Clockwork recovery. Also downloaded the MD4 modem. I was warned against the Advanced Restore for all data, but I did it and everything seems to be working fine so far. I like the Kuban Updater but I think it will work better for me once I (eventually) change to the TWRP recovery.
I'll report back on battery life, etc.
I miss Odexed Blue but for now Wicked Sensations is very nice.

If ur too worried about switching to twrp all at once I would recommend checking out @CNexus recovery switcher... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2274796. It uses the aroma installer to install twrp ,cwm ,and cwm touch. That way you can test out twrp and if u don't like it it's not hard to get right back to what u like.

I decided to flash just TWRP and use it for now - everything is working fine.
Just donated to dazednconfused after a few days of linving with Wicked ROM as my primary.

I was a very dedicated Odexed Blue user too. Actually still have it as my daily, but now all of the google updates are happening and my apps are ugly again.
I was curious about doing an advanced restore. Did you do it for data only? Even the odexed apps work? This makes me much more likely to make the switch. At least until I upgrade my phone in March. However, from what I've been reading I'm not so sure I'm going to jump to the Note 3. When the biggest complaint on the newest phone is call quality I really question what the manufacturers are focusing on.

Yes, I did the Advanced Restore - Data Only...and yes, everything has been working fine. I was prepared to revert completely via nandroid if I had encountered any issues - but there were no issues whatsoever. Once I felt comfortable, I replaced my recovery and did a nandroid of the new set up.
Spouse has a Note2. Spouse isn't really a power user and hasn't shown any interest in the Note3 so we are waiting. I don't know anyone local with a Note3, so I haven't checked out the call quality.
3 out of our 5 family lines are now off contract - mine and the other remaining contract line will go off in the spring so we are waiting to figure out our next move. For now I'm perfectly fine with my S3 w/extended OEM battery and Wicked Sensations.
In general Sprint has been very good to us - we have LTE nearly everywhere we go and the only dead spot in our county seems to reside in spouse's office, so Sprint gave us a free Airave. But paying $250/month for the five lines plus Airave is getting to be a drag. I'm the only data hog in the family - typical use over 5 to 6 GB/month as no WiFi at work and I use Google Maps turn by turn for travel. So we are weighing options.

Well...after looking at the new T-Mobile plans and testing their coverage with a prepaid SIM for a couple of days, we have decided to move to T-Mobile. We will be saving $100/month with 2 unlimited lines & 2 with 2.5GB. I moved Mom to Ting so she could keep her old flip phone. Her service before tax will be $9/month.Found nice phones on Swappa - need to sell my Sprint phones. We will break even on switching costs including $140 in EFTs few months...after that it's all savings for us.

You can edit the build.prop file to get the ota notifications to stop. I thought that I was locked to odex roms as well, but I've made the switch over to Wicked Sensations (not the 4.3 version yet, but Dazed does have one, there are 2 separate threads for MD4 and MK3) and its a similar experience to Odexed Blue.

Did you mount it r/w?
Someone else was having problems doing it with root explorer. Search the market for build prop and you will find an editor

Go back a page or 2 and there are full instructions. You dont change the version to 4.3 you have to change the build.
