ok i created this thread to see how many of you are running on boost and how much you paid for it to be done or if you done it your self
Won't find to many answering that one cause of legal issues with it . Lol
I did it myself. I would suggest everyone do it themselves because when problems arise you'll know how to fix it. I see alot of people stuck because they don't know what they have to do when they lose data, and they have no more contact with the only person who has what they need. It's funner to tinker yourself anyways
I am on boost but right now im having issues with mms .. can anyone help with my apn settings etc

I saw you sent me a message but this is exactly what I was going to tell you
This is my 2nd Evo on boost. Everything works just depends on the ROM I'm using. I find a lot of trouble sticking with ASOP ROMS as their lack of GPS support and no EPST menu. Other than that love it. I had mine done by the same people that also did my TP2.
And no, it's no legal if you're paying for the service ALREADY and you OWN your "to be" donor phone that you'd clone to the Evo.

So what ive heard , since I havent upgraded to ics yet is that apn backup and restore will not work as on ics 3rd party apps are blocked from changing apn settings , I found on the market something called "apn setting shortcut " its not a widget or a app just a shortcut to your apn settings , I need to be sure my apns can be fixed after going to ics , as im on boost mobile and dont want to break my mms . so can someone running it please try and change apn settings with this and see if they stick , I would really appriciate it I just want to verify that it will work before I give myself a huge headache

Getting to the settings is not his issue. Its what happens after you change them and reboot.
Give me a little bit, I'll test for you.
//edit.. The app will not even run. Starts with an error that it is incompatible. No go with that one.
2- Manually setting up the APN settings should work. I'm not by the computer, so looking up settings to input is a no go, so i can't verify it sticks. But the menu has not changed, except for visually.

Has anyone tried manually editing them with apn settings shortcut ? You dont have to use real ones just change them and reboot to see if they stick and then if they did change them back

I'm on metropcs using an incredible and tried to manually write the apn and couldn't get it working. Incredible almost has a fully functional ICS and I can't use it because I lose mms. If you find a solution please let me know. Thanks
If its any help, u can access the apn settings on cm9 and aokp just as u could on the gb roms. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't stick seeing as YOU'RE the one changing the settings and not a 3rd party.

You can edit the apn settings located at system/etc/apns-conf.xml (can be edited with root explorer) but you must delete data/data/com.androids.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db and data/data/com.androids.providers.telephony/databases/telephony.db-journal (or you could just wipe data.)
I've been having the same problems with mms n my, 3g i used any cut to change the apn to the boostmobile settings but my 3g wouldn't work n my mms would only receive n send text but pictures would not send or receive.. This only happens with ICS ROMS... I READ SOMEWHERE THAT YOU CAN CALL BOOSTMOBILE N ASK THEM FOR THERE APN SETTINGS BUT YOU HAVE TO B A USTOMER
No 3G on Boost with all ICS Roms
someone please post once you can get the epic 4g touch working on ICS while on Boost Mobile. I also have the same issue and cannot figure out why any ICS rom doesnt have a working 3G/Data while on Boost.
I just found this post on using setdns and ics works on boost !!

sorry for the noob question but what can you do with this ?
This is the code you dial to be able to view and or program the phone. m.youtube.com/index?desktop_uri=%2F&gl=US is case I was refering too -speed hack- it is how you would program your phone to bypass sprints proxy which seems to be throttling bandwith

pretty sure the hack is baked in to begin with in this ROM so no worries!

its because your apn is not configured correctly buddy. ask your carrier for full apn connection details for your device
Will they give me this information? What if they ask why I need this... I just don't want my warrenty to be voided..
Sent from my BNTV250 using Tapatalk
They cannot void your warrenty for this buddy, its pretty standard stuff, and you need it to fully enjoy their service ^^ they shouldn't be able to refuse you. If your worried just go in, say you had to factory reset your device and need the apn information to get mms messages fully working

Btw thanks for your time sir
Sent from my BNTV250 using Tapatalk
As far as warranty goes from what I understand you have already voided that when you rooted the device especially if you unlocked bootloader with HTC Dev.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using Tapatalk
It has nothing to do with warranty. At all. Your apn is your access point name. It allows your device to connect to your carriers network and access the internet. The mms feature runs through the internet and sometimes will not work when it is not Configured properly. Even if it is not configured properly the internet may still work. Your apn is a vital part of the service your carrier provides and they cannot refuse a request for it. If the do tell them you will switch carrier. Now, when they give you the access point name. Go into settings/network/apn and then select new apn. Fill in the information just like a form. Exactly as they have it. Save it. Now select it as your apn and then check your mms again, and your internet for good measure. And tbh, you may be able to find your apn online, they can be model specific but not Device specific. Ie if you have a friend with the apn working on your phone, with your carrier. Then simply copy theirs. But Warrenty is NOT AN ISSUE at all.

No vpn and apn are different. If you open your settings and go to wireless and network , look inside here and see if you can find the apn. What carrier are you with? And what country? I will try see what I can find for you. And I cannot see any harm in this update. At worst it may muck up your internet. Do a nandroid first, then test and see pal.

The only thing that alerts me is that when they tell me to type the code nothing pops up. I see nothing for apn. Anywhere. When I look in the notifications / status bar there is a up and down arrow nd when I click on that. It drops down and says apn but nothing is in it. In with one issue and out with the other eh? Typical lol. Well Facebook not working is probably a apn issue. And if you were to reflash the rom it would remove the work that your carrier did to get your mms working. Is Facebook the only internet using app you have that is playing up? And are you sure your internet is working fully.?

You can do it in the programming menu. It's been so long since I've done this for friends, I'd have to research it myself for awhile. On the ROM I'm running I can go to settings>more>mobile settings>access point names.

I ported my phone to straight talk from sprint and my data is working but the speeds are very slow. Straight talk told me to manually enter APN settings they provided me but it's not where it is supposed to be under the mobile networks settings. LG support told me it should be there and if it's not that Sprint has removed, hidden or disabled it. Does anyone know how to access APN settings on this phone?

I'm not sure because Ive never had to do it on this phone. I know Sprint has removed/hidden/disabled it. Certain 3rd party messaging apps will allow you to change the apn settings but I dont think it's system wide. I'm not by my phone currently so I cant test this right now but we do have a hidden menu. From your phone dial 3845#*970# to access the hidden menu.
If apn settings aren't in there you could always try a different rom. You would have to be rooted and unlocked with a custom recovery but most of them will allow you to change the apn settings. If you go that route, head over to the original development section for our phone and read the root guide by engine95 found there VERY CAREFULLY. Sorry if this isn't much help but like I said, Ive never had to do this because I'm still on Sprint Stock.
I tried some apps but they don't work on android 4+ they say and I've tried some secret menus with no success. Can't remember if I tried that one or not. Ill check real quick. I am rooted but I've been hesitant to switch Rome since stock works so well but I may have to look into it. Can anyone recommend a hassle free rom?

Yeah I was worried it wouldnt be in there. Most roms have some slight issues, I prefer stock myself and have been modifying it manually. Cyanogenmod 10.2 is probably your best bet though. It's based on Android 4.3, CM 11 is 4.4 based and mostly smooth but still not labeled as stable.
EDIT: Just make sure you make a full backup of what you have now in TWRP. I'd use TWRP 2.5.0.0 btw. Backup all partitions so if something goes wrong you can restore it back. And follow the install directions for CM precisely. Good luck!
try thisOffline SIM APN Database Otherwise consider using a custom rom or even a stock variant.
I'm not sure that database will help me since Sprint is cdma, but also I already have the correct apn settings from straight talk. My phone just doesn't doesn't have the option to input them thanks to Sprint. Cell providers really need to stop locking people in at this point. If your services were good and your price was competitive then people would stay with you, without the gimmicks. Sorry to rant I'm just really sick of all the cat and mouse games of unlocking a phone. I think I probably will just use a custom rom since my phone won't have anymore limitations after that, but that is still more work than I wanted to do just to change apn settings. Thanks for the feedback guys!

I have heard of other apps not having much luck with changing apn settings for us. Even tho I dont currently need it, thanks for the heads up!
It didn't change it for me. It said ICS or later prevents it but it did allow me to open the menu which was good enough for me. Still having a problem where after a reboot it keeps creating the sprint apn after I delete it but I figure that's baked into this stock rom somehow. Prob still be switching roms but I will play with it some more. It also keeps trying to reactivate on sprint but I was glad to at least see the menu. If it were not for some clever sprint engineers that app would have worked perfectly.
