Hello, one of my friends have a Android Device and when he plug's de Device in any PC automatically de PC install the drivers to be able to recognize the Android Device, he told me that this happen becusae the Drivers are inside of the Device and Windows in the PC recognize the drivers and install them.
Is any way tod do this in our Desire HD?
Becuase many times I want to use my Desire HD like a USB Drive in other PC and is not possible, I need to install the HTC Software or the drivers manually.
Thanks
Install HTC Sync, that will take care of installing the correct drivers for you.
After you plug in the phone & select the 'mount as disk' option on your phone, it should automatically come up as an external drive. (well it does on a Windows 7 pc with no HTC sync installed)

Desire uses 2.0.28 it is on root of SD card
Are you using 64 bit or 32 bit Windows 7?
I had similar issues in 64, and needed to manually place the HTC drivers in the Program Folder.
You can download the HTC x64 Drivers from here:
http ://www.multiupload.com/86L5JXTK0S
Just place them in the HTC directory (i.e. "C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\" or where ever you choose to install HTC Sync. And then just reinstall the version that is located on the SD Card that came with the Desire.
Hope that helps, it worked for me.
had no issues with my W7 x64 Ultimate laptop and drivers - installed first time using HTCSync on the SD card

Well You probably did not noticed that on the root of SD card is a new version of HTC sync 2.0.28.
So as I wrote, he only need to intall this new version 2.0.28 from SD card. Old version 2.0.25 comes with Legend and is not working with Desire.
in each section of this forum..i find the same question, whoever gets a new phone..come here ask HTC SYNC & WIN7
kinda funny

No I did notice that and that what I used and if you read point out. I was simply giving a piece of advice that worked for me in with the problem that I had.
It works fine on win7 x64, never tried on 32 but i assume its the same.
I posted a download link if you were like me and a few others whom deleted it by mistake. I was lucky i have two HTC Desires so fished the software of the other SD:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=661397
When you install the software it asks to restart i think, you dont realyl need to do this. When you connect your phone it will detect device etc, install drivers. Once done disconnect the phone from computer for a second o two and then reconnect it, this time the HTC sync should appear on your phone. IF you do not select htc sync it will not appear as connected in the htc sync software.
Thanks for the driver link, i didn't find them on the htc site, well i thought win7 would download them automatically just like any other device i've connected to it.
w/e now i can use my outlook contacts and calendar thanks again.
EDIT:
Don't know with older versions but with latest HTC Sync 2.0.28 that's in your phone SD you don't need those drivers.
On my Windows 7 64bit when i plugged the phone a driver installation error pop'd, so i removed the sd card, inserted it in a card reader, copy'd the app on my pc and installed the htc app manually. After the installation i tried again but windows gave me the same driver error, so i just started from scratch.
Unistalled htc sync, reboot, reinstalled it, reboot, plugged in the phone in htc sync and it worked
So probably you've to first install HTC Sync then plug the phone in HTC Sync mode to get it installed correctly.
EDIT 2:
Ok nothing again...
After the first sync i unplugged the phone, now if i try to replug it i get the same driver error and the device can't be recognized. Meh i really don't know what to do.
EDIT 3:
This just sounds retarded, i plugged the htc cable directly on the back of my pc w/o using an extension cable and now it works flawlessly. Gonna play around with it more to see if that's really the problem.
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
hTC Sync PC Connection Issues
If your hTC device (mines the new hTC Desire “Bravo”)
has connection issues with your PC – You will receive an
error message on you hTC device saying PC not found etc.
Simply check to see if you have your hTC device plugged
into a USB2 port and not the older USB1.1 port … Vista+
should have atleast 1 / 2 USB2 ports. I have 8 ports on the
rear of my PC and 2 on the front. I had connection issues,
but discovered the 2 ports on the front are USB1.1 and
norrowed down the USB2 port which was on the rear of my
PC! Plug your hTC device cable into the USB2 port (may
need trial & error to find the port, but you can check to see
if you have a USB2 port, by looking in your
DEVICE MANAGER on your PC. Open the hTC Sync
programme and then plug the cable into your phone. Select
hTC Sync on your device to do a Sync or select Disk Drive
on your device to transfer music, pics, etc. Any problems
feel free to contact me @ [email protected]
Press F8 when you start windows
Select the option that alows 3rd party drivers
and then let it boot into windows...
I think once you are in there is an option to allow 3rd party drivers.
Evan if teh drivers are from microsoft win 7 will do the same thing... odd but It's theer for a reason !
Sorry I hope this is not off topic and I don't want to hijack the thread but the people using laptops can they check if the laptop will go into hibernation mode with HTC sync installed. My XP netbook wont hibernate and I have to uninstall it after every time I use it, just want to check if it is a driver conflict with my netbook or a generic problem with HTC Sync.
Hey, glad I found this thread. I have been having trouble with HTC Sync from the outset. I have an unmodified Evo with 2.2 and an Asus netbook with Windows7 Starter. I was wondering if it might be the W7 Starter being limited in some way, but it sounds like the problem is across the board. I have managed to sync a couple of times but the phone and computer don't seem to recognize each other reliably. Right now the only thing the phone will do is accept a charge from the computer. Occasionally the computer will recognize the phone enough to install the driver but that's it. Anybody have any new news on this one?

I have still a problem updating the drivers and get the sync to work. :s Been trying all day. Windows 7 64 bit here
Hi guys ... Well I just tried to use USB Tethering on my Android phone (running the Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 ROM), but when I connect the phone to my laptop, it tried to install a driver but it unable to 'find' any drivers for it ... I checked in Device Manager, the name of the device is 'Android Phone' ..
My understanding is that OS after Windows XP should be able to automatically get the drivers needed for this, but still my Windows 7 OS is unable to find anything, even after I tell it to explicitly search for the drivers on the internet ..
The Hardware IDs of the device 'Android Phone' are the following:
USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0FFE&REV_0226
USB\VID_0BB4&PID_0FFE
Can someone give their two cents on this ?
I think all you need to get the drivers is to download and install HTC sync.

Just bought a new Htc DHD vodafone brandend the netherlands (no custom rom and 2.50.161.2 software number and 2.3.3 android) and I'm experiencing a problem with my usb:
When I hook up my phone to my laptop(win 7 bit32), other laptop(win 7 bit 32) and desktop (win 7 bit 64) nothing shows on "My Computer", my phone just charges and thats it, the menu screen of which type of connection I want shows up and when I choose USB disk drive or HTC Sync nothing happens .
I tried with debug mode and without, I used 2 different formated sd cards, I used different usb ports, I tried a hard reset and different factory reset.
Could it be the drivers as when I go to my devices I come across a warning sing next to the htc and I also notice a "My Htc" not installed.
I downloaded htc sync and installed yet my phone doesn't show up, I installed with and without internet as I read that windows could install wrong drivers :s
What could this be ?
Are you using the correct data cable.
i can undestand htc sync not working cuz its crap but it should detectdisk drive unless you skipped the windows install.
go to control panel > add/remove hardware and uninstall anything related to htc. Plug phone in. Select disk drive. Hope windows detects it. Good luck

I deleted all drivers related to the htc and when I rebooted and connected my phone to my laptop, my laptop made a sound, stard searching for a driver for "my htc" using windows update and found nothing and described my htc as unknown device.
Yes..windows wont install the drives needed for sync but will be able to istall it as a disk drive.. htc sync is a pain to get working i gave up.

+1 on this. He is actually looking for the driver for Desire HD. The FTP/SMB or wifi file explorer is optional, but at the same time ease the access to your storage.

Use AirDroid. It uses wi-fi to transfer files.
So you need not use any cables.
Also you can do many other things. Try it out.
Thanks for your all kindly respond to me, I am really thanks to all.
- For using Dropbox over WiFi, I am doing it but I do want is disk drive mode brow SD Card (Offline access all file)
- For HTC Syn I installed with the latest version, but while plug to PC it can't detect any HTC sync on PC
- I try the file expert too but I actually looking for the driver for Desire HD!
- Can you tell me why I can't brow I try many time for install this kind of android driver by adb, htc sync, other soft related to android driver but STILL CAN'T
Try to uninstall HTC sync, clean cache (with ccCleaner, for example), reinstall it using administrator privileges, reboot pc and plug in your phone again. Also, try to connect it to a different usb input.
Remember to always wait for your pc to install all drivers, when you plug in the phone.

Have you tried completely uninstalling the HTC Sync and all its other packages? Because HTC Sync comes with "HTC BMP USB Driver", "HTC Driver Installer" and "HTC Sync" itself. Try removing all those packages from Control Panel > Programs and Features.
Then make sure there's nothing left in Device Manager. Use View > "Show hidden devices" to show hidden devices. It will probably be at the top of the list called "Android USB Devices". If not then try forcing Device Manager to show unplugged devices. To do this:
Right click on Computer > Properties > Advanced system settings.
Under the Advanced tab click on "Environment Variables..." at the bottom.
Now under System variables click "New..." and type:
devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in Variable name
and
1 in Variable value.
Now click OK.
Then log out and log back in and try opening device manager again and click on View > Show hidden devices, it should show you all the devices even though they are not plugged in. If there's something called "My HTC" under "Android USB Devices" then try uninstalling it, restarting your computer and reinstalling the HTC Sync package.
No idea if this will work but worth a try eh?
Cheers.
I use MyPhoneExplorer (Google it) over wifi for contacts and calendar sync, loading apps to my phone from my PC, syncing my music to the phone and importing/exporting files to from my PC. It also does this over a cable link but, for me, wifi is more convenient.
Hi, My HTC Desire 816 is about 2 weeks old. I've had problems connecting the device to my personal computer (running Windows 7). I've reinstalled HTC Sync Manager several times, turned on USB Debugging, and even switched cables and ports but to no avail. When I try to update the driver, Windows faces an error saying it's unauthorized to install the driver for the device. However, the device connects perfectly to my office laptop also running Windows 7. I am able to transfer files on that system but not on my personal computer. The HTC website also has been of no help, except for asking to reinstall HTC Sync Manager. Please help. Thank You.
me too, need help
Tethering & Internet Pass Through
I have installed the latest version of HTC Sync Manager for my Desire 816 on Windows 7 and tried it on Windows XP as well.
When I connect my device for the first time after that, the drivers install automatically.
My system is recognizing the phone as a mass storage device.
But when I select the 'Internet pass through' connection type, it doesnt connect and after some time gives the error as
"Either you dont have the latest HTC drivers or ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,please get latest drivers by intalling latest HTC sync manger from the website"
I have tried to uninstall and re-install the HTC sync manager several times but had no success with Internet Pass through.
Might be the issue with the drivers, cant understand the reason.
Can anyone help me out with this.
I have also the same problem.

I am pretty sure that you guys have already tried all those, but just wanted to remind you all again as a benefit of doubt. HTC sync manager will install the required drivers usually, but in some cases due to firewall or any antivirus systems within our computer, only few files will get installed and other will get blocked. The best way to tackle this problem is to follow the below steps
1. Uninstall the HTC related drivers if installed partially previously.
2. Reboot the system - which is must
3. Then turn of your firewall or internet security or antivirus on your computer for 10 min or more
4. Connect the HTC 816 to computer using the different USB port that is not used before. (Every new USB port needs installing drivers. So hopefully this might help)
5. Install the HTC sync manager
Hopefully it should recognise. If not, try following the same steps with different USB cable.
Hit thanks if I helped you so that I will know the above steps worked for you guys too as they did work for me personally. All the best.
