[Q] HDMI Output/tv - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello..
I bought a HDMI cable for my phone, it only works with stock video player (that doesn't play .avi and any other format) You-Tube, slideshow and very short things. I was wondering if there's a player that can output through HDMI cable? Thanks!

Try one of the FullHDMI apps from the market. There are two of them there. Once you get that all set up and going, you should be able to use a player like RockPlayer or something, and use the FULLHDMI app to output to your TV. That'd be your best bet. Search in the market for FULLHDMI

Nop, Full hdmi keeps crashing, and when it works it displays black screen
Found an app called Real HDMI but it cost money

[Q] HDMI out and external subtitles

I just bought a micro hdmi cable for my arc, I connected the two things together and I almost shot myself in the head -> there are no subtitles shown on the TV but you can see them on the phone's display!
Anyone tried any other player which does show them on TV, or will I have to hard-burn subtitles into the movie?
I tried this with moboplayer.
Thanks
Why do you want to read the movie?

Sorry to hijack your thread as this has nothing to do with your question but did you get it showing full screen on your TV?

erm im using vplayer, but its a paid apps n havent tried it yet on hdmi..
If my native language was english, then I wouldnt mind about subtitles.
The movie was showing full screen, yes.
have you try another player? which movie format you'r trying to play?
I tried Moboplayer, Rockplayer, Vitalplayer, all of them display subtitles on the phone, but not on the TV.
I only tried an mp4 file so far. Will try out further with different files.
I tried xvid avi file with external subtitles (in moboplayer) and the phone was showing them on the TV screen!
It seems it is not showing them (external subtitles) if the video is mp4.
Vote for bugfix.
Same issue across all players on Asus TF700T / ICS and H/W decoding.
Vote(star) here to get OHAP's attention: code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=32564
I use a TF700T, and I went into developer's options and disabled hardware overlays, then my screen basically mirrored to my tv, it works that way but I've been told to not keep it disabled, so once you are done watching, enable it again. Hope this helps.
Dice player, I just tried it with a .mkv file and subtitles appear on the TV.
Even though in the settings it says it'll only work for some Samsung devices.

Video I made of SGS2 bluetooth, OTG, and MHL connection

Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know that since its quite dull and rainy here in the UK right now, I decided to make a video to show bluetooth mouse and keyboard connection, USB-OTG connection, and MHL connection to my TV. Hopefully it helps those that are still deciding or questioning features of the SGS2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXveu7ZHAcY
Enjoy!
Hi,
Nice vid.
I am waiting for my Rii mini keyboard (24.44 Euro http://www.dealextreme.com/p/handhe...ss-keyboard-with-trackpad-and-red-laser-35354).
Already got myself an MHL adapter + HDMI cable (19,95 Euro incl. HDMI cable @ http://www.gsmpunt.nl/accessoires/s...to-hdmi-adapter--zwart-gratis-hdmi-kabel.html)
What I was looking for to do is watch HD video's from the phone. Unfortunately it doesn't like the WMV files I've got. Does anyone know what the file format/codec should be for HD videos on the SGSII?
I did search the forum but found nothing on this subject.

I use .mkv, it works great with stock video player.

Thanks!
And do you have or know of a good tool to convert to mkv's?
Cheers,
David
Divx plus converter has mkv creation and it is free (mkv profile).

What are you converting from? The stock player seems to support lots of formats.
MKV is just a container, MKVToolnix can package your video into MKV, instead of re-encoding it with DivX or similar.
Is there any adapter which would allow MHL and USB OTG to work at the same time?

[Q] MHL Video Player

Hi there..
Just want to ask if somebody know which of Video Players support subtitles on Htc one x via MHL, i used to watch movies with Galaxy S2 and Video.apk from Galaxy S2 supports subtitles via MHL, i searched on google but no results as i want.. I want to ask you if it possible to install Video.apk from Galaxy s2 to Htc one X?
Thanks in advance
i use diceplayer, it plays basically any file (and uses hardware decoding on hox)
it supports subtitles, can't imagine why it wouldn't over mhl, as the mhl is just a mirror onto the tv.
it supports (according to the app description)
Subtitle format
- SSA,SMI,SRT,VOBSUB
- MKV subtitle extraction supported
- Unicode/Multibyte charset supported.

hmm, i don't use subtitles so never noticed, might be a bug in the mhl driver stuff or something then if it happens on more than one app

It's not working with diceplayer too..
The most probable reason is the hardware decoding. Try the BSPlayer application and make sure you turn the software decoding on and you will see your subtitles your telly.
This is an issue with the Tegra 3 devices, as I have the same problem with my Transformer Prime and I have to use the same trick when I connect the HDMI cable.

Nexus Media Importer: Cannot "Stream" video files. . . ?

I hope you can assist so I can take advantage of one of the great features of this App.
So, the bottom line is I cannot "stream" the videos on my flash drive when viewed through the application. Each video was made converting using Handbrake to an .MP4 file using the preset "Android High" setting. I've put the files onto a brand new Cruzer 32GB FAT32 formatted drive from Amazon. I then connect using my second purchase of a OTG cable from Amazon. Both cables recognize the files and read the information on them, but neither file will play them using DICE player, ES Media Player, MX Player, nor Vplayer.
The vids work fine once "copied" over to the device but then I think that defeats the purpose of carrying around the flash drive. . .please assist and let me know what I can do to get this working. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried speaking with the developer?
Nexus Media Importer Thread. That's his thread. He answers there. He's very helpful.
I have the app and it's played everything I have tried:
http://i.imgur.com/QZxhB.png
http://i.imgur.com/ZLpq8.jpg
How are you encoding the audio? To what settings?
I have tested the app with a few flash drives (even some really old and slow ones) and it's worked out fine. But my main flash drives are these Kingston DataTraveler G3 32GB bought from newegg.
Contact the dev in his thread and maybe he can help you pinpoint the issue.
As a note: we use this QQ Tech USB-OTG Cable.
Good luck.

Try BS Player. I've had the best luck with that.
I've attached my Blu-Ray Tegra2 profile for Handbrake. The Nexus 7 should eat these for breakfast.

I tried BS player (free version) still had no luck. I will try your HB file you posted.

Tried your Tegra2 profile you sent on a quick music video, still getting errors on every 6 different video players. Just saved the video to my device, played perfectly. . .
Again, still trying to solve for the "streaming" ability this app has. . .Is there another main setting somewhere I am missing?

There are no settings to mess with. I guess the next question, which should have been the first is what do you mean by they don't stream? Do you get an error, or does nothing happen? If nothing happens, it could be that the server is hung. Click disconnect and then scan. That will bounce the server.
Anyway, I just released 3.0.3 last night which seems to be very stable. Might want to give that a shot.
Hi:
You might want to try converting with DVD Catylist, http://www.dvdcatalyst.com , I stream videos converted with DVD Catalyst all the tine with Nexus Media Importer.

HDMI video out - resize screen?

So I've tried search everywhere. It seems like when you output via HDMI, there are black bars on the side of the screen and it the image isn't really a full screen resolution. Is there any way to make the output for HDMI properly scale to the TV/monitor resolution? The only thing that does this properly is the stock video app, which sucks when trying to play MKV files cause of no audio. I'm only concerned with playing videos, is there any video app that can do this automatically? Or any way to rescale the resolution to fit the monitor?
The only way I've really seen it work is through some Nexus 10 script, but I'm not rooted
I wanna know too.. Anyway what method u said might work?
Have u tried using screen mirroring in the settings? I'm not sure if it's my third party mhl cable that is the problem as they said it it was unable to start.
