[Q] Upgrade Gingerbread Loose TomTom? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
Any ideas if the official upgrade will include the built in maps?
I'm going to upgrade from HD2 for Google Sky Map & TomTom Navigator. Having Gingerbread with that combination is very important.
Since it is an official upgrade, I'm hoping nothing will be lost.
Warm Regards,

The update still has Google maps / Navigation and the HTC Navigator.
Sent from my Ericsson T39m

Thank You MrJMM

Hi Daz555
The website states: "With Locations, explore maps with zero wait, zero dead spots, and zero data roaming fees".
Whatever the brand, as long as it does the job.

I think you meant to write "but i'm NOT sure how to get GPS running".
If so, you do not need to install any software. GPS works. But without a software program that actually uses GPS, GPS itself is quite useless. So install TomTom 6 (if you don't have it let me know, I'll post it), follow the instructions and your GPS will work. Headsup, first fix will take some minutes, so be patient.

http://www.tomtom.com is the place to create an account and download a paid map, but you can use Route 66 too.
Let we start with Google Maps, that's free of charge and easy setup. I've attached the file.
ActiveSync (XP or earlier) is available at Microsoft, http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync45.mspx
Windows Mobile Device Center (Vista) at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

You can download Tomtom 6.03 from rapidshare:
http://rapidshare.com/files/47514040/1.bin
http://rapidshare.com/files/47519726/1.b01
http://rapidshare.com/files/47523589/1.b02
Just rename the files:
1.bin > 1.zip
1.b01 > 1.z01
1.b02 > 1.z02
Upzip the file and copy the content from the zipfile to the root of your SD. Use File Explorer to navigate to the root of your SD card and tap on Start.exe from and TT will install itself.
Arilexed: Thanks for your Tomtom 6 links, much appreciated once again...
For those familiar with google maps and gps settings.... when i use google maps on my trinity it keeps saying seeking GPs satellites (0)... but it never finds anything....
is there something i need to do with the setting??
How about tomtom 6 do i need to change the gps setting in order to make it work?
I'm hoping someone can help me out~~~
Thanks in advance~
Doesn't GoogleMaps require you to have a constant internet connection to be able to use?
yes, i believe you are right prawnz....
piitaa, ensure you are outside, away from tall buildings and built-up areas. a first-time lock can often take 10-15 minutes to obtain.

no problem, glad to be of service. could you confirm if the download and installation has worked for you?
Hi dos anyone have this problem? I've tried installing WM6 official OZ ROM but finds that the in build memory is smaller. and since TomTom needs to be installed in the phone inbuild memory I have only small amount left to install other stuff. Plus how come there is no office in the official ROM.
hello, don't have the answer to your question but I think you would have more chance in getting a answer if you started a new thread for this. just a thought...
TomTom - making more room
Hi - you can just move the folder "Navigator" from the program files out to the Storage Card - just correct any shortcuts to point to the new location. It works fine and frees up that much space on the device...

if your using 3G you could also use Googlemaps for the phone.
for more information: http://www.google.com/mobile/gmm/index.html

any freebies?
The only free one I know of is Googlemaps that I already spoke about. tTough you pay for the data downloaded via your ISP using 3G/Wifi.
tbh who would make a GPS Navigation application and ask nothing for it?
How about smart2go, you can download the maps for free of Europe and do navigation (on screen) all for free. The only bit you pay for is the voice prompts.
I use tomtom, but I've given it a go and it works pretty well. I'm planning on using it in greece later in the year as there's better coverage than the version of tomtom I have.
It's a little fiddly to get the map loader program to install the maps, but if you try and have a problem let me know and I'll try and find out what I did to get it working.

i would like the tomtom version....actually everyone is talking bout it also.
http://www.smart2go.com (free)
or
http://www.tomtom.com (certainly not free!)
Hehehe.
I love all the answers skirting around what he's asking for...
Nobody can give you a link to Pirated software on this forum, sorry. Search Google for that.
Another FREE alternative is Microsoft Live Search. It's actually a pretty good GPS program if you look around in it. Also, it uses speech recognition to input what you are looking for. Give it a try.

GPS/SatNav recommendations -which one?

I got TomTom bundled with the Athena and Cruise, no such luck with the TP2. Any suggestions or recommendations about which package to go for for TP2, bearing in mind the wide screen etc.
All suggestions welcome
i have tried 3 sat navs over the years. obvious one is tomtom, i use copilot 7 and have no probs. i have read and heard great reports of mcguider? might want to check the spelling. very popular is garmin xt but word of warning.... youll have to hot swap your sd card and that is no fun. workarounds available but not worth messing around with it.
i went for copilot live 7 because i found a cheap one on ebay and no need to hot swap. its very clear and works with most devices.
I think that should be a good short list. no doubt others will champion other brands.
I use TomTom, have no problems with it at all, works 100%

Yes indeed, but it's the 480 X 800 screen that might present an issue
I use tomtom7, but for some reason on my kaiser and rhodium it runs SO SLOWLY.
I only get about 0.75 frames per second update time, which frankly is terrible compared to the 3-5fps that you would see on a standalone tomtom unit.

I use 7.915, the latest version which runs flawlessly.
As mentioned ... I have CPL6 and it works fine on the TP2 taking up the whole of the WVGA screen except the initial splash and performs well.
Paul.
igo8 (latest version) works on mine just fine. Same version I was using on the HD
iGo 8
I cant get iGo 8 to work to save my life!, I've installed and re-installed countless times now and Iget the same issue, it installs fine but wont start the application, even to give me the license agreement page.
it just bombs out and it's really cramping my phone at the moment... any ideas?

A-GPS
Hi there,
I might be really stupid but where in the settings is the option to switch off Assisted GPS?
I'm surprised that it doesnt work with A-GPS as the Kaiser had no issues at all.
Thanks for your help

[Q] GPS program

Does anyone have a GPS program with Swedish maps? Or know where I can get one?
It should also be free
If, where can I download it?

Tomtom(.com) (route planner) works well and has Swedish maps, for oziexplorer(.com) (topografic maps), also Swedish maps exist as I remember well. Both work well but are officially not free.

Ever heard of Google? try tomtom 7.9 pda and it will help you on your way.
Or try news groups. For oziexplorer, there is a demo version on the web site. Maps via news groups
Hi!
I like NaviComputer a lot. It is free and you can use the NaviMapper application, which comes with the installation on your desktop to download OpenStreetMaps. This way you can stay offline all the time, but have great maps.
This tool is not meant to be a Navigation software like TomTom etc.
The only downside of the program in my opinion is, that you cannot search for street names. You always need to have a rough idea, where you want to go.
I'm using it for GeoCaching for instance.

I quite like the google nav to be honest , wonder what tomtom will bring to the table to make it unique, and worth paying for
With free google nav already on android device. I don't know how tomtom will make money of their app. Not to say now apple has their own map solution launching in Ios 6.
The only thing I miss on Google Nav is a Speedo reading!!!!!!!!
Other than that its no bad.
I used to have it for my iPhone, and the only thing I liked over google nav was the fact that when music was playing, you had a skip track button at the top

Well at least here in Finland, Google Maps Navigation isn't supported. We'll have to use 3rd party navigation around here.

Wonder what this means for android version of tom tom.
I use copilot live EU and it's perfect. I've driven through Europe with it. Google nab is OK but you don't want to be using data abroad.

In all the GPS tests using phone based software Tom Tom navigation always comes out far better than others .Routes are better road works and other delays are better .
Purchase would really depend upon the user and how often and where its going to be used .
The probability with this money behind it Tom Tom will improve further .
No reason for Tom Tom not to sell across all platforms .
Tom Tom + Apple the future could be a greater developed Siri incorporated within the navigation .
