Anyone use this from the market?
I wanna test out the 2g/3g/4G mode but it's giving me a warning that it could break my data and not able to be restored so I'm too chicken **** to test it.

Yes. Swear by it.
There are plenty of nay-sayers, and no doubt you'll hear from them here. I wouldn't argue the experience they've had, but then, I don't see why they argue mine (and other happy users).
I had terrible problems with battery drain on my Epic 4G. I had a lot of crap running, keeping the radios alive all the time with little junk that was just fine updating in bursts every 15 min. when JD wakes up the cell radio for apps to do some traffic.I'm also not OCD enough to remember to turn my wifi on and off.
Anyway, with JD and my configuration, I sip electrons. Take JD away and... not so much.
Put it on the GN and it seems to be working just as well if not better. I see threads full of people complaining about battery life -- I'm easily getting a day and a half out of mine with moderate use (maybe 20-30 min total talk time, some internet, YouTube, 20 minutes of gaming, and other typical usage). Sitting on standby, I lose about 1% and hour.
When configured properly, I find JD helps a lot, chiefly by automatically managing the radios. Worth it.
But do you specifically use the 2g/3g/4G toggle or do you just have your profile set to turn data off?

Yeah, sorry I wasn't more helpful about that. I only answered your first question
I don't use the specific toggles. I just turn data entirely on and off. I didn't see the benefit of switching specific data modes.
Yes, 3G uses less power than 4G, and 2G less than 3G, but OFF uses the least!
Haha np, I just like to be able to get my emails and mms etc.. At all times.. But hate leaving 4G on..
Just thought it would be perfect to have a profile to turn it to 3g or 2g like 30 seconds after the screen goes off..

Juice Defender is, without a doubt, the worst app I've ever paid for.
I had problems with JD on my SGS but it seems to be working much better on the GN. Stops the battery from draining while I'm not using the device. The main thing I'm using it for is controlling WiFi by location. I only have a few apps enabled with the screen off so it shouldn't be using a lot of data.

Agreed. Such a waste.
I will third that motion. Had nothing but crashes and battery pulls on my SGN. Once JD was removed phone ran smoothly again

JD worked great on my SGS2 and works same way on GN - thanks to JD I loose just 2-3% over night.
I don't know if it's bad configuration or ROM incompatibility for the people that complain about JD.
Anyway, I have seen that 2G/3G/4G option but didn't have time to look around after beta version, anybody care to share a link? I would like to see if 2G is good enough to keep my internet radio going, it's currently killing my battery, like 10-20% per hour. Is there an option to use 3G, but no HSDPA?
When idling, with properly setup JD schedules and triggers and auto-brightness also managed by JD, I get great battery life.

I lose the same overnight without JD...

I may as well weigh in with my view on this, as an agreement with both sides. When I had JD Ultimate loaded on both stock and custom ROMs on my Gnex, I undoubtedly saw battery life gains when the phone was idling, and they were significant. However, far too often I would go to unlock the phone, and the touch screen would be unresponsive and I would have to battery pull. Not once has this happened without JD running. A couple of times a day with. So it worked for me, but the instability that came with it was too much to bear, so I uninstalled.

Yea I know it's possible, but I just like that JD manages so many things for me, like auto-brightness, radio schedule or that it automatically enables WiFi when I get home and disables it when I leave and can do the same with Bluetooth if I wanted.
Surely I will uninstall JD when I loose interest in its advantages or when I find a different app that works better for me or when I simply get bored with it.
I only had to pull battery once since I installed it, which is not that bad. If it starts to annoy me, I will get rid of it. But so far it's ok.
My issue is that I don't want something controlling my phone. Too much control. I can all those things myself if need be. Isn't that the whole purpose of Android phones? To have control?

Sounds like the solution for you is simply not use JD.
For me, the solution is to use JD to let it manage some boring things for me so I can focus on other more interesting stuff.

This.
Except never had a crash or lockup, never had to pull battery.
I'm a flash maniac, hacker, and mod extensively. I run a lot of crap on my phone. JD does a great job managing things automatically so I get great battery life.
That is, JD ultimate... the free version is way too limited.
Only problem I've ever had is JD bring really slow to turn data on when I wake up the phone, after its been running fora long time (like into the second day). Fixed by stopping and restarting JD most of the time.
Rarely happens because I reboot at least once a day for one reason or another.
Arguing over whether JD is "great" or "crap" is so juvenile. The fact is it world great for some, not for others. This speaks to configuration differences, not JD. Is Supercurio's voodoo sound crap because it doesn't work on some configurations? Of course not.

To offer a different perspective, I don't consider something for which I control the parameters to be "not under my control". I'm not seeing how JD's behavior is any different than the phone automatically connecting to a wifi AP if you leave you're wifi on without you explicitly telling it to connect.
If JD simply enabled some vague power savings through turning the radios on and off, without knowing exactly what triggers the control, I'd stay far away from it too.
Sure, its turning radios on and off, etc. -- exactly as I've instructed it to. I'm in complete control.

I seem to get absolutely terrible battery life no matter what I do. Most of the time I'm lucky to get 8 hours.
It was that way stock/unrooted but it is no better with CM9 beta 1. Right now it is down to 69% after 2 hours with under 30 min screen on time.
I don't play games any more resource intense than Scramble With Friends and today I haven't played any at all. Most sync is turned off except Contacts and Gmail.
This is driving me insane... suggestions are much appreciated!
You have an app eating processes.
Install better battery stats from XDA to find what is keeping your phone awake.
Install Watchdog to find if any apps are running more than they should.
Worst comes to it, install everything one by one and find out which app or apps it is.
Just installed both of those. I will report back tonight.
Any settings I need to change in Better Battery Stats? I bought the paid version.
You didn't have to buy the paid version, it's free on XDA
There are no settings to change for better battery, just let it go. I haven't needed watchdog in a long time but you can set how aggressive it is if you'd like.

I appreciate that, but being able to install/reinstall from the store is convenient and I like supporting good developers.

Thanks!
No matter what I do, it is still terrible.
I know that I've heard that crappy reception can shorten battery life, maybe that's the problem. Where I live, the signal is very spotty and I'm sans WiFi for a week or so.
I'll post screenshots of battery/usage and watchdog, better battery stats when I get to work tonight to see if any of you experts can shed some light on this.
Hello,
I know all of you have heard this time and time again. I'm sure I'm going to create a huge battle discussion, which I don't want honestly. But I've searched throughout the forums with no luck, and if I've missed this, please direct me and delete the post. So, with that said, hear me out..
I understand apples iPhone's battery tends to last long because of the not so true multitasking, and there are hundreds of ways to make androids battery life significant.
I was just wondering if there was any ROM, kernel, etc to get rid of the "android true multitasking" to increase battery life. Myself as an android user, never tend to use widgets or really have any use for multitasking anyways. I play on facebook, text, and make calls periodically. Anyone want to chime in without blowing my head off on this one?
ICS and JB both have an option under settings/developer options called Background process limit.

Really? Doesn't seem like it would or even that it would increase battery usage since apps have to be restarted every time.
It will definitely free up ram, but that's not really an issue with the GNex.
I should probably also state that I'm on Vicious CM10 w/ stock kernel, and have not yet seen more then 10 hours and 2 hours on screen time.

True, but I only use my phone for browsing facebook, xda, and text messaging. I never play games, use youtube, netflix, or any other battery drainer. I also keep 4g off. I would think I could get more then 10 hours and 2 hour screen time with the 2100 mah extended battery (already exchanged for a new, so it's not the battery)
I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for improving battery life? I'm currently running MROM and I've seen a lot of people say that it has the best battery life, but I can really only get like 8-9 hours out of regular use.
Are there any settings / tweaks I can do to make it last longer?
Don't use the Facebook app.
Does it actually use the battery that much? Have any alternative suggestions or is it just better to use the mobile site?
The only battery friendly alternative I found was FriendCaster. But since I've switched to using just the mobile site.

I actually have the same problem with you. Ever since switching from MIUI to MROM (which a lot of people say MROM has better battery life), my DInc2 cannot last a whole day anymore. With MIUI I used to get a whole day from 8AM - 10 PM with constant use. Now with MROM, I have to use my backup battery for the first time AND JuiceDefender App so that it can last after 4-5 PM

JuiceDefender is OK if you aren't constantly checking your phone. Pretty sure turning the screen on frequently (which makes JD enable data) would cause faster battery drain. I might toy with it for a little while, but for now I've just uninstalled the official FB app. I'm sure there is some more stuff I could be doing though.
Let me know if you come up with anything.

One thing I noticed that Wifi Sleep Policy in MROM does not work for some reason. Wifi is constantly on even though I choose for it to turn off every time the screen is off. For MIUI, it does work so it did help in the battery life. JD can't turn off wifi either.
Just turn your brightness to minimum. It helps.

I just downloaded it to see how it does compare to Juice Defender and DS Battery Saver Pro. I never really like Juice Defender and have been using Battery Saver for a month and it seems to help my battery life.
Once I have been using for a few days I will report back what I think about it. Thanks for the post tho otherwise I wouldn't have found this app.
Just installed this.... will report back when it's done learning and switches to saving mode.
Thanks for the heads up, i'll give this a try.
nice grabbed this up will be checking it out.
Just posted this in the Verizon Galaxy S III forum as well.
Still seems silly to me that we are going to have to have 4 separate discussions for an app that will work the same on each carrier.
I'm not really sure on what the value of these apps are.
Letting my phone do whatever it wants when I'm on wifi and my phone is sitting idle, my phone uses around 1%/hour of battery life.
Some portion of that is all this app could really save then, right?
Why bother if, in exchange, I'm possibly having delayed notifications, apps not updating in the background, etc.?
I've been running this app .today is 3 day (around) have not rebooted or anything using phone as always honestly don't see a difference yet..

Let us know how it fares against JD and BSP. I have JD Uktmate and have been happy with it. I lose about 1% an hour at night which is better than the 3% I was losing prior to purchasing JDU.

doesnt do anything, i get about 12% drain in 9 hours when im sleeping, what it does just turn off wifi for me if im not in range, which is useless, having wifi on doesnt drain much battery at all
Thanks for the link! Will update in a few days with results
can't tell if it's just a placebo effect or not, but i feel like my battery life is a little better after using this app
I haver never once had a random reboot until I installed this today not sure its related just throwing it out there

After using this for the past few days I would say overall it is not that bad of an app. I am really starting to like it. My average battery usage went from 5-6%/hr to 3-4%/hr. I know there are a lot of variables that go into this but I would say it works as well DS Battery Saver. I have also used JD but never really liked that app. I will continue to use this app to see what the long term would be on here but its a good find in my opinion.
If nothing else try it out for a week or so and compare stats. I use Better Battery Stats to get my info from.
Has anyone compared this to the relatively new "Greenify" battery saving app?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
Anything that suggests it saves battery makes me nervous. Because the only way to do that is to shut down apps. And when you shut down the app, it may not get updated, or it may open very slowly when you do need it, etc.
I did not like it much... i am guessing that all this app does is change sync frequencies of different apps. To do it it tries to determine your location so that it can turn sync off/on or change sync interval based on your prior usage patterns.
Once it was out of learning mode, i noticed that my s3 battery drain was quicker due to excessive usage of maps by this app.
I uninstalled the app... and have got my battery life back.
