Pull out the battery and plug in the charger to see if it will turn on. You may have a bad battery.
Do you BONSAI?

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are definitely not bricked. Brick wouldn't/shouldn't do anything at all. Was your battery low when this stuff happened? If so, do you have a spare battery (charged) that you can pop in?
Also, since you are able to ODIN, maybe try files like di18 or eb13? Just to see if you are able to boot?

ok check this out fellas ............ i was getting help from another developer ..
first lets just say its SEMI BRICK if thats even a problem
1: when phone froze -- meaning no button, power, home, open and close slider . worked i pulled out the batt
2: tried to go into recovery and DL mode that didnt work
3: had to plug in usb cable while hooked up to my computer
4: battery sign flashes ( like its about to show u the juice remaining ) for LITERALLY 1 sec than back to black screen
5: realized only way to get into DL mode was to was to keep it plugged in
6: flashed the original pit and tar file .. from the thread which states IF PHONE IS BRICKED .. that worked passed reboot to black screen
7: i tried the HARD RESET as stated in another post, i then odin JUST the EB13 tar again PASSED .... rebooted this time to SAMSUNG but black screen right after
8: as for now no buttons -no light ... BUT when charged either on the wall or computer thru usb it just flashes the charge sign and then black screen .. a 1sec intervals ...........
9. ive told im obviously not bricked ... hence the term SEMI BRICK .... as i told the other devs i will try any idea .. i dnt have an extra battery .. but i dnt think it would work my phone is like not reading the charge or something ...
I REALLY APPRECIATE THE HELP U GUYS are tryn to give very much .....

Sorry, I'm out of ideas then. Maybe walk it on down to the Sprint store and give them an elaborate story about how your phone went crazy. As long as you were able to odin the pit and pda to eb13, you *should* be stock and not rooted. Maybe get a new phone out of the deal. I'm sure others on this website will have some alternatives to going to Sprint though.

Yeah, it is more sponged than bricked. But still sounds like a blown battery. Best Buy insurance also replaces the battery once. If that doesn't work they will order you a replacement which will come in a day or two. New Rapid Exchange program started in April.

[Q] Truly Bricked? Getting a Replacement...

Well... today has been a terrible day. Between slacking off this crapload of work I have and bricking my Epic, my life sucks.
I was trying to go from my old syndicate ROM to k0nane's new gingerbread ROM. I have flashed ROMs many times and have been using them on the Epic since I was able to get one for the phone, so no issues with procedure.
I follow the basic instructions as usual, download the files I need, and then go to town.
Anyways, the procedure was supposed to be basic, I was in Odin, phone in download mode and connected to my PC, options selected for only reboot in Odin, pit set, EC05 set in the PDA slot.
I clicked start and it got to factoryfs.rfs and got stuck there. I waited over 20 mins the first time. Then after checking out the forums and googling, I disconnected/closed Odin and did a battery pull on my phone.
I repeated the above process (waiting only at 5-10 minutes each time after it got stuck) atleast 10 times.
At one point it got stuck at boot.bin and I waited over 30 mins for it to pass. I was a dumbass but I followed the same procedure, later realizing it was the bootloader and I was going to be screwed.
I tried booting the phone with no success, but luckily download mode worked. I followed a guide in the forums on how to revive a partially bricked phone (one that didn't boot in to android, but did to download mode) and so I checked the re-partition, etc as asked to do. The phone again got stuck and boot.bin, but eventually passed... then got stuck at factoryfs.rfs, I thought all was and the boot was fixed and did a battery pull after waiting another 20 mins for the factoryfs.rfs to flash.
Tried turning it on, and failed. Tried getting into download mode, and failed. Same with recovery, etc. I tried the supposed hardware reset on the back with no success. Tried a plethora of keypresses to get it to work, battery in/out, etc. When I go to sleep, I will try leaving the phone in the charger, with the battery out.
For now, I have deemed the phone as bricked. I've been working at this for 5 hours now. Called up Sprint a while ago and managed to get myself an e-ticket, claiming the phone just turned off and doesn't turn on anymore. The person tried doing a refresh on their end and then approved the e-ticket.
Tomorrow I'm going to a sprint store and they're going to try to repair it in-store (which will fail) and then as long as I have no screen cracks/water damage (I don't, I have been careful) the tech will put in the order, and I should have the phone by Tuesday.
This is well, if everything goes as planned. I am hoping I don't end up getting billed for the phone after receiving the replacement if they somehow manage to revive the phone and find out I had a custom ROM/rooted the phone.
Any tips on confirming on the brick are welcome, any insight on replacements, bills, etc...
Thanks,
Fr3shY
There is a tiny reset button near the camera button which you need a needle like object to press.
Try that and check the size of the tar you used for odiN. sometimes you get unlucky and get a bad tar. That happened to me on my first odin

remove the battery for a minute
place battery back in
press the reset button by the camera for 60 seconds
walk away from the phone and listen to some isac hayes with your wife for two hours.
then after about two hours do download mode.
try this pit file.... just unzip it in the same directory as your odin...

No response at all? No charge light? Then in the words of a famous Doctor "it's dead Jim". I am sorry for your loss. I wouldn't worry about getting a bill later for the phone, it is pretty much FUBAR'd at this point. No one who has bricked has reported an consequences and there were quite a few in the last month or two.

Nope, no response, no charge light, and well this sucks. Do you think I'll be successful in getting a replacement? And is my story of having it working one moment, and then off and not turning on another alright?
Another concern is receiving a bad refurb model, because I have kept my phone is pretty pristine condition, just a small quarter inch scratch on the screen... are they usually good? (as far as you know)
Thanks for your help and quick responses!

No one has had a problem yet. There was a rash of bricks a month back, and all got warranty replacements. Yes, you pulled it off of the charger and noticed it was off and would not turn on.
As far as refurbs, that is Sprint's SOP unfortunately. Since the phone has only been out for 9 months, it can't be too bad but you can always make a stink to a supervisor if it looks beat up. Most were happy with their replacements, only 1 or 2 had some glitch in software on the replacements.

Good luck. Maybe you will be lucky and your store carries replacements. Mine never does and it takes 2 days.
I got my replacement from sprint when I bricked mine and my replacement was so much better than my original one. Refurbish ones are ok. You don't have to worry about a beat you phone or anything. Most if the time the outside of the phone is brand new. Its just a used processor and internal things. They just flash the software to it.

You probably have a problem with ODIN, try download a different version. OR you can follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1027904 And you can just flash in CWM back to EC05 and RFS so you can flash the EE03 Rom, this is the method I used, it worked perfectly. Just flash this, then reboot and flash EE03.
This should fix it If you can't access CWM then download an earlier version of ODIN (I had the same problem). But it should work just fine If it helps please hit the thanks button This will save you the time it takes for a replacement!

It is possible, and yeah... I'm kinda pissed I found ReRFS AFTER my device bricked. And later I found out, I could flash my ROM directly over my existing one. I didn't need to flash back to EC05. I'll keep this in mind for the future though!

Scratch on screen on my new epic touch.

I upgraded to the new epic 4g touch on friday and have been very careful with it since then. Well apparently not careful enough. I noticed yesterday that there was a a scratch at the top of my screen. Enough to feel when I ran my finger over it and to see when there is a light color on the screen. I have read alot of posts about how to remove scratchegs from glass and gorilla glass but nothing recent. Is there a good way to get this scratch off or is the screen technology of the epic touch condusive to getting the scratch off easily? Any help would be appreciated.
Tell whoever you bought it from that it freezes and you want to exchange it thats how I removed my scratch.

dude just take it to a different sprint store and tell them you just bought it and it keeps power cycling.
i do this all the time after i buy phones lol. hell i was drunk the other day and dropped mine and scuffed the corner. so i am going to take it back also and tell them it keeps power cycling
If you're within your grace period, which you obviously are, they are obligated to give you a new replacement if you experience any problems with your device. It's in their policy.
Ask to speak to a manager if they give you ****.

Is there a way to fix it? My GS2 also got a pink spot at the middle of the screen. Thank you.
option 1 (someone else already stated): take it to sprint store, tell them the battery life is horrible, it keeps power cycling, u read online people have great battery life and ur'z sucks, u think u have a defective unit, blah blah blah... keep saying stuff that tells them ur device is defective, there shudnt be much of a problem replacing it, since ur still within ur 14 days
option 2 (someone also stated this): purposely brick ur device within the 14 days, will work 100%... once ur device is bricked, anything they try will not power on the phone, into any state: regular boot, recovery, download mode, etc. NOTHING will work (only the blue led light will come on and stay lit)... dey WILL HAVE to replace ur device
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
with this situation, DO NOT try to be a smartass... u MUST go into the store pretending ur dumb and dont know anything about smartphones, and the sprint employee is the GOD of smartphones... u must pretend u dont know ANYTHING, like this is the first time u seen a smartphone, n u know absolutely nothing about how this happened... use an excuse like "when i went to bed last night, it was working fine, i put it on charge. and when i woke up in the morning, it wouldnt do anything, and this blue light wasnt going away, i didnt know what to do, so i came here as soon as i could"
(HOW TO:
1. download odin v1.85: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262272
2. download OG epic stock files ROM: http://rapidshare.com/files/415661977/SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar.html

5. for PIT, select path to .pit file. for PDA, choose path to SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-Rel.tar file
6. click start
7. after about 30 seconds, odin will seem to be STUCK, because its re-partitioning... at this point, PULL THE MICRO USB from ur phone....
8. now ur phone will attempt to reboot... VOILA, A BRICK!! (the blue light should stay lit, and no matter what you try, NO SCREEN WHAT-SO-EVER should come up)
**if it did not brick, try again, n leave "re-partition UNCHECKED" n just apply the OG epic stock image, that should be enough to brick it**

those are your 2 options within the 14 days...

[Q] Won't Charge or Boot?!?!

My phone is only a few months old... I did buy it used and the person before me had it rooted so I unrooted it using "SGH-T989-UnRoot_ROM_Zedomax". It worked fine since and I never had problem except the other day when my battery showed 100% all day until it just shut off and I had to recharge but then worked fine and since the battery seemed to be accurate. Anyway... Last night I went to use my phone as always and it just shut off and never turned back on?! I tried charging and no luck, took battery out a dozen times, no luck... Tried download mode, no luck... SO, what could be wrong with my phone??!! Is it bricked or is the battery just fried??!! The screen stays black and wont turn on for nothing, and it wont even charge so theres no green battery icon on the screen! Any Ideas??
I do want to add that from searching it seems like it is bricked but I just wanna make sure before I send it back or try anything I can to get it back on that people may suggest that I havent yet... Also, when I did unroot, everything went back to stock except the bullet boot logo screen, so if I do have to send it in will Samsung still fix it if they see that its been messed with some time or another? Or will they just simply wipe or replace it without even looking? Thanks.

rooting your device voids all warranties, not sure about your issue but you need wait until some advanced members offer you there knowledge b4 returning a nonstock phone for warranty replacement.
Well I would definitely appreciate the advice on what it possibly is and what I can do as soon as possible. I have no back up so I am completely without a phone till it gets fixed.

Another battery wont fix it if the screen won't turn on When connected to power.
.....Clones & Drones.....
Yea... I spoke with samsung and they didnt seem to think it was a battery issue. Also, they asked me what color the strip was on the battery itself (the white strip next to the connection terminals) Im guessing if the batterys go bad it changes color cus according to them, white is what its suppose to be, no idea lol... Most likely if I dont get a response on something to try I havent yet by the end of the day Im gonna try the jig trick to try and get it into download mode so i can odin. If that dont work im hoping sammy will replace it, my only worry is the stupid bullet boot screen still being there but then again, if the phone dont turn on at all then they will most likely just reflash it, but is there still a way they can tell it was rooted some point in time? Anyone have experience with sending them devices like this and if the fixed them or not?
The colored strip is them trying to blame you for dropping it in the toilet LOL. The strips turn pink when wet. Other than that i think Odin is your only chance.
.....Clones & Drones.....
so the phone doesn't turn on at all? LCD receives n0 power? try pulling the battery and running it without the battery
You tried holding vol. up,down and then plugging in usb with battery out?
I've noticed batteries on these juicing out and dyeing. Try a different battery, go into a local Tmobile Nd ask them to swap out your battery with a galaxy in the exchange bin

I bricked my phone too, and panicked, i called t-mobile and they got pissed that i rooted it and couldn't do anything. The .rar file fixed it. BTW it will be completely stock and not rooted, you have to flash it through odin..... it may take up to 2 hours, do not interrupt it

You put the file in the ODIN folder and put your phone in download mode. My phone wouldn't charge or boot, but it still went into dl mode. Then you flash the .rar file.
By the way... this IS NOT a battery issue

Thanks for all the replies, and yea... as I said its completely dead. Also, I did test the battery so it wasn't that, and I tried using the Jig method to get it in download mode and no go... I already sent it back to Samsung so I can get a replacement.
I just wanna add that I have found that this is pretty common when rooting this device so be careful! For some reason this device is known to do this when you mess with it, and it wont necessarily happen as soon as you do, it could be months after and then it just decides to crap out randomly! So be careful!
Months later? That sucks man, is Sammy getting wiser? Well at least its bricked so hard they can't tell what's going on.

It actually sounds like you've been using a generic charger or a charger that isn't the oem type which leads to the forever stuck 100%... that is your problem... it is because of a faulty charge that messes up your phone. It could even be a faulty oem one. There was a thread that addresses the 100% problem.
But yeah a lot of people don't realizes what ROOTing actually does and blames it for anything bad that happens to their phone. But! it's probably better that way.. less problems and finger pointings.

Hard Bricked my Epic- Will I have to make an assurion claim?

Now before you say its not hard bricked, just use odin/download mode bla bla bla, know that I do know what I am talking about. I was odining WITH PARTION ON to go from mtd to bml and my computer power cut out. Now I can't turn my phone on OR get into download mode . I looked into th e unbrickable mod but apparently that's just more of an untested thing (at least for the epic). That pretty much means I can only get a new phone (probably get the note 2). However I was wondering for the time being if I turned this into sprint, assuming they don't know whats wrong with it and i play dumb, Will they just replace my phone cause I have tep? Or will i have to make an assurion claim? Or should i use an old crap phone for the next 3 weeks until i can get my gnote 2?
A month or so ago, I thought I had hard bricked from an odin disconnect. I searched & tried EVERYTHING and couldn't get it to DL mode. Somewhere in XDA I stumbled on a suggested unbrick method that amazingly worked. I wish I could find that post & hit Thanks.
- Close the keyboard
- Put the battery in
- Press the power button TWICE with short presses
- Plug in your USB cable
- Use 1+Power to fire up DL Mode
- Voila!!
I know it sounds overly simple, but it worked for me. I was shocked.

I don't know why, but they seemed to work...thank you!
Well, I guess my memory isn't so hot. I found the original post here. The instruction should have been to press the power button twice with the the battery OUT. I'm glad it worked for you anyway.

My friend told me it had something to do with waiting for the static something or other to clear with the battery out...so it may not have been your method. Just the two hours i got frusturated and didn't do anything with it and the battery out.

this drains the power out of the phone board, you could also unplug the battery and plug the phone into a WALL charger while holding power and 1, then after you get into download mode plug the battery in and take it to the usb for odin.

If its been 30 days you can go back to any sprint store and they have to give you a new one. I've done it. not for the s3 but for other phones. Thats considered a manufacturers defect.

hard bricked

well.. i guess from what I've been reading once in hard brick its toast... last night i tried to install the 1% bat mod, and failed. causing my phone to not power back up. at all... I've tried to boot into download mode, and recovery mode, the screen doesn't even turn on. nothing happens. from what I've read on here it sounds like its done. any suggestions? today after work I'm going to best buy and try and play stupid and see if by chance they will set me up with a new phone. I've only had it for 3 months, and I'm hoping since it cant boot at all they will just swap me out. otherwise ill have to pick one up from eBay...

haha... i can give it a try... i have to call samsung in the morning... once i get off the phone ill post here and tell yall what my verdict is.
Ok i called and talked to Samsung. told them my "problem" and they emailed me a shipping label, i need to send them the phone and the battery, and they will look into my problem and send the phone back once they fix it. i also told them my battery felt warmer than normal. on a side not, this is a real problem. my phone had been off for 2 days, while on the phone with Samsung they asked me to take out the battery, and i noticed the battery was actually quite warm, struck me as odd considering the phone has been off for days... i told them that too.. anyone else have that problem?
Ok so ur gonna get u phone fixed then :good

It's obviously doing something... Try to force download mode like this:
Hook up the phone with no battery inserted
Hold Vol Down + Home only
Insert battery
Ya if the battery is still warm, it is doing something. I'd try every absolute way to boot to download or recovery before sending it in.

Why are you worried about the flash count? I thought that Triangle Away worked on the GS3.

The same thing happened to me. I tried to install the insert coin revolution rom with muti window support. (unable to resist) and then my phone suddenly turned off. I got happy and thought it worked then a couple minutes later I tried everything but it won't turn on. So I gave it to Telus and said that I did a factory reset and then suddenly it turned off and won't turn back on. so they sent it for repair and said it would take 2-3 weeks. Right now is week 2 of 3. good luck.
well my phone was completely dead so I could use triangle away...I'm not worried about it. if they find out it just means they wont fix it for free...
thanks I need the luck, I'm completely phone free... its a funny feeling not having one... no worries though...
Crazy how dependent we are on these things. Too bad a jig doesn't work like on the GS2. That thing saved me when I had to send it in for warranty repair.
