Phone keeps crashing at random after .30 radio update - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated my Z with the new .30 radio and matched the RILs but now it keeps restarting at random when using it. It doesn't really matter what I do, it just turns black and then the HTC logo appears and it starts the ROM again.
I'm using Blackdroidmod 3.3.0 with the stock CM Kernel.
Does anyone got any idea what is going wrong?

Is that rmk's ril matcher you used? I didn't think it was compatible with CM or the .30 radio. Unless its been changed since the last time I saw it, in which case, my bad, lol.
Try flashing to the .26 radio, assuming you are on T-Mobile in the states and see if that fixes it. It might just be incompatibility between any of the ROM, kernel and radio with each other.

nope I used the matching RIL from the dev forum. And i'm on the Vodafone Netherlands network.

The .30 radio is for the US..but shouldn't give you shut down issues. You are using ultimate droid and flashed a cm kernal over it? Might be the issue considering UD has everything already built in.
Try different rom, reflash a radio for your area of the world

Try flashing just the .30 radio without the ril files and see if that helps, i have seen the new ril files for .30 radio giving people issues.

Well, after 2 crashes and a manual reboot + 1 call it stopped restarting no idea why it did that... it works totally fine now. I will keep you guys up to date.
Also the connection is much better now, it switches much faster between G, E, 3G and H + wifi. The battery usage seems to be okay and the GPS fix works fine.
Why is the .30 USA only? it's a quad band phone right? Vodafone got a tri band network in europe including Edge.

I am using .30 In Australia with no issues.
Where do i get the matching RILs?

Would rooting / flashing ROM cause bad data connection

I have an Orange Desire.
I have recently loaded the Clockwise recovery, and flashed Modaco's ROM. I also updated the radio to version 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20.
I now find that I have slightly erratic data connection ( noticible when I use satnav )
Any ideas?
cheers all
Yeah,i found the new radio not as good as the previous one. A lot of people have said the same thing.

Orange have been fixing their APN/mobile network, I'm guessing it was an upgrade due to high loads from all us smartphone n iphony users these days.
I flashed to another Rom midweek an thot I'd killed my 3g/h+ was goin to flash back to CM6 but loving my fm radio I was determined to fix it... turns out it was orange mobile data not my bodging or any WiFi bug I'd thought it was

[Q] Anybody using the RIL automatcher by rmk40?

I was wondering if anyone has been using this zip file to update their Radio Interface Layers. I was one of those afraid to do it manually and when I found this, I thought it was awesome.
Before, I was just flashing the radios and I didn't really notice that much of a difference. Granted I only tried the 27 and 26. I left the 27 because it drained my battery faster and I was having issues with my Wifi. I was having the same issues with the 26 austrailia radio (but not as severe) until I flashed the Radio RIL automatcher zip. Then I saw the difference. My phone was only on edge in my house and sometimes 3g but rarely. Once the RILs were in place, I magically got H+. Although my phone constantly goes from 3 bars to 2 to 1 h+, I still receive H+.
I have noticed that my WIfi acts funky sometimes and my connection seems to disappear from time to time but it always comes back within seconds. This usually happens after a wake. I haven't tried any other radio yet but I might soon. I'm also not sure if it's just the rom I'm currently using (GingerVillian 1.5) thats affecting my wifi signal.
Here's the link to the thread where you can download the RIL Automatcher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12080292&postcount=77
What are your stories?
I used it on CM6/7 when I used the .27 AUS radio and didn't notice too much of a difference.
I've read that Sense RILs on an AOSP ROM can cause a drain, because of the way it interprets the screen being off to stop Location services (someone correct me if I'm wrong here, this is what I can remember).
You say you're on GingerVillain 1.5, right? Try flashing radio 26.04.02.17 then reflash GV -- with GV being based on CM7, and Cyanogen using the same radio, the pre-included RILs best suit that radio - I'm using the same combo (nightly 29, .17 radio) and have been completely fine in regards to battery life/signal.
Hope this helps
I wonder if this automatcher will auto change the ril on cyan. I wonder how I can remove it just in case.

Damn i wish it had a dedicated number row. Way to go, designers.
I just used it and I see no real diffrence yet. I will see how it works out for a few days

Yikes - need help!
[EDIT]
I was able to reach HBOOT recovery by using volume down + Power button during boot. From there I was able to re-flash VirtuousROM 1.0.2 and all is well again.
[/EDIT]
I just loaded Virtuous 1.0.2 (worked fine) then immediately tried RIL Automatcher. Now I can get WCDMA voice but can't get DATA connection, and also can't find any GSM signals. Also, Sense hangs and crashes. My phone is massively slow and buggy.
I tried to restore a backup from Rom Manager, but now the phone hangs at the HTC bootup screen. Yikes!
Questions:
1) What did RIL Automatcher do/try to do? Install a new radio?
2) If yes, How do I obtain and reinstall an alternate radio?
3) >>>> How do I revert to my previous working setup?? (1.0.1 or 1.0.2) <<<<

Signal Lost

sup guys
hope you can help me, ive got a serious problem with my desire. I've already flashed multiple roms, radios and RIL's. Atm im on 2.2 villain ginger with the newest radio and the right RIL for that radio download from the radio and RIL thread in this forum.
I get a Signal and internet, but as soon as i try using it by entering market or sending a sms or whatever, the signal breaks. First I lose internet and signal goes down to 1 or 2 points, then it cut offs entirely.
Sometimes I can use it 1 or 2 minutes, sometimes I can even send SMS, but in the end it will always break off and not come back until a reboot.
Using o2 in germany
Have you tried it with the ril that comes with the rom. I believe the ril's are only for sense roms and not aosp.

I've flashed the same radio as the developer now, and made a fresh install.
I still got the same problem, but it disappears if I stick to 2g and deactivate HSDPA..
Anyone can help me?

Help with GSM 3G/2G signal dropping

Well i have a big problem, i'm using the DINC2 over a GSM network with the 900Mhz freq for 3G.
I had the 2.3.4 then i downgraded the rom to 2.3.3 using the method posted in the development section.
Then installed CM7 and everything was perfect until the moment i made a nandroid backup, after that the handset went crazy, first dropping the 3G until the point that it drops the signal completely not even gsm.
I have tried several radio version and the problem persists, i'am willing to go back to official 2.3.4 if the problem is solved but again since i'm not in the US i cannot upgrade the device via OTA.
I need help i cannot use it without 3G.
EDIT: I managed to get it to work stable at 2G, but whenever it makes the handover to 3G it drops the signal completely and return back to 2G, it works stable if i leave it in GSM only.
Have you found anything out? This us exactly what my phone is doing. Installed touch pros beta 3 ICS and had a sporatic signal (like it'd be fine and for no reason I'd have no service). Yesterday I installed beta 6 and everythings fine until I got it set up and did a nandroid. I am using the 722 radio, but saw a little about a 1111 radio...have u tried that radio?
Touchpros ics rom does not officially support GSM, it works in general but there is no support for it. This means that you can use ics but there are multiple issues, like the radio dying when you restart your phone.
So you can use it but remember it is not finished

I just read Touchpro won't be supporting this ROM any longer, do you know of this is true? Or will there be further development with it? I really like it so far but not sure I can deal with this radio issue...thanks for the input!

radio/ril issue

hey guys im new to the forum.
i have a rooted nexus (maguro) on the Three "3" network in the UK and i was running AOKP for around 8 months with no signal problems at all. I flashed a new rom(jellybean) back in august and now my signal drops around every few mins and then comes back for a few mins and drops again. I have tried restoring to my old AOKP backup and the problem continues. i have flashed other jb roms and tried all different ril's using getril off the market but i just cant seem to stop this problem.
can anyone help? would be very much appreciated, thanks.
Try the app GetRIL and look if you have the right RIL and Baseband. If you don' have the right, you can change it ith the app.

hey, that's what ive been trying but even when i have a matching RIL and Baseband i still get the signal loss. i know it isn't my network as my gf is on the same network and her signal is fine
Try a different radio?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345
Anyway, the GSM antenna on the Nexus is not the best around, so you may get slightly worse signal compared to other phones.

custom rom zips don't include any radio.
flashing a stock google image using fastboot will flash the radio over.
I have the same problem with you, but i am in Vodafone's network in Greece.
When i flashed the first aokp jb i started having problems with disconnections. The XXLF1 radio was extremely buggy.
Then i tried a ics rom and downgraded my radio to matching xxla2. But the problem remained so i changed back to aokp jb again.
Now i still have a buggy radio (total signal loss, data drops) but not so much as before.
It might be a problem with the frequencies each carrier use. I say that because when i had "2G only" enabled i had no signal but when i turned on 3G i had three bars at the same spot.
Anyway, i hope they release a better radio on the next update.

Refer to the link I included above, try different radios and remember to match the RIL.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?
