[Q] Suggestions For Incredible kernels. (incredible as in the droid incredible :) ) - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys! I just hooked my buddy up with an incredible and got it all tweaked out for him except for a kernel. I have the EVO and it is surprisingly harder to find a kernel for the incredible so im hoping to lean on your guys knowledge! I have Carbonite Fusion v.5 ROM on it (sense based), and i have flashed it over to cricket! not sure if that last one means anything in the kernel business. Anyway im looking at mostly cell reception (i know thats the radio and prl mostly) if that is something that would vary between kernels. And then on a sidenote battery life. Let me know! thanks a bunch!!

Kernel shouldn't affect reception but can definitely impact battery life. For sense kernels, you have Chad's incredikernel (12/23), heyitslou kernels (there are five I think), and ziggy's (www.ziggy471.com). Heyitslou and Chad's have threads in the development section.

like nuggy said, it depends. it seems like everytime i update my rom i need a new kernel to go with it.
i personally recommend netarchy's. i used his 4.1.9.1 kernel with great results for a long time, but recently upgraded to his 4.2.1.
you can check evobenchers for a general rundown on what kernels are running at, but once again, every phone handles things differently and your results may vary.

I have an HTC Evo 4G rooted running Myn's rls 5 .
What's the best kernel to get the most out of my battery ?
Sent From One BadAss Rooted Evo 4G On Myn's Warm 2.2 Rls 5 Steroids Via XDA App. ;-)
ima straight flash addict. ive flashed 95% of evo roms and kernels out there, unmatched battery life is SBC kernel #15. it honestly lasts me all day and im a heavy user but apperently it can lead to your phone blowing up ive never had that problem tho so ill keep taking the risk
Others are right. Try a few and see what works best. Try Netarchy's HAVS kernels with SBC for full battery and smartass or conservative governor (SetCPU from the market to set it easily).
SBC got a little harder to find recently, but it's out there, just not on the main netarchy page. Give the devs a little time and they'll work out the right legalese to appease the fear mongers...
I have myn rls5 as well and I use netarchy's 4.3.1 no SBC with cfs and havs (the newest beta) and have been doing okay with it. I typically have about 15%-25% at the end of an average day. It also improves the speed of myn rls5, which I like.
I gave up SBC for all my nandroid backed-up roms when everyone stopped supporting it, but I do still have SBC #15 v7 if you would like it (PM me and I'll upload it to you).
Keep in mind that a few people have claimed that it destroyed their battery, but I didn't overclock and all the data I've read on my phone tells me that everything was fine. So obviously, no one is responsible for your phone blowing up but you, lol.
I used SBC #15 v7 for about 2 and a half weeks and it was the best battery life I had. I ended every day at about 30% battery life and I'm a moderate user. When I flash to mikfroyo, I keep that kernel as the performance of the rom plus the battery life is a combo from awesomeville.

New to the Droid incredible need some advice?

I just came over from a Droid x then a fascinate now the incredible... love the rom support on this device.... the fascinate only had about a handful of developers which really sucked... what are some great roms and a great kernel for overclocking and stability... don't mind about battery life... I have 3 batteries lol... please help... also what else should I get on this device

It really depends on what you want. For sense based roms, I am particularly fond of Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo. It's based on the Evo framework, has an incredible development team, and is able to use many evo and incredible options. Just take a stroll through the development thread and check out how many separate threads are devoted to the rom.
Ziggy's kernels, Lou's kernels, and the incredikernels are some of the more popular and widest used kernels, and for good reason. If you can't find what you're looking for between those three, then you won't find it.
Good luck my friend
Thanks a lot bro.... will check it out ASAP and of course miui that rom is just sick all around...

Of course there's always Cyanogen if you like to go 'vanilla'. Version 7 is out (CM7) which is a Gingerbread build. It's really stable and the fastest rom I've used to date.
Check out this thread if you're interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=916881
I'm using cm7 nightly #2 with the 2.6.37 incredikernel and it has awesome battery life but I believe the highest overclock is 1113MHz, so nothing crazy but you'll still get great performance
the invisiblek kernel is supposed to be nice too but I haven't tried it
Ive used quite a few different ROM's and I used Sense(less) rEVOlution 2.0 for a few months with great success. However, I just switched to Incredibly Re-Engineered v2.3.1 and I must say this is my favorite ROM so far.
I'm loving CyanogenMod 7 with just the included kernel. Fastest ROM I've flashed by far and getting anywhere from 12-30 hours depending on usage. Can't wait for future updates.
If you like Sense, I honestly liked Virtuous and used it for a while. Extremely stable and fairly customizable. Any Sense ROM is likely to drain your battery a little quicker, Rosie is needy.

Im on liquid light right now, I actually love it. Imo its a diff version of miui

Myn's Warmtwopointtwo has a very clean feel and i have been running it for a while now. I've also run Virtuous, Redemptive, CM7. Myn's is the best imo thus far. Lou's #9 is great. I just switched to ziggy's beta 12111 and it is a little faster , but battery life hasn;t been fully tested. also Juice defender is a great app to get you through the day.

I have to agree with this quote. I have been running v2.3.1 for a few days now and I have really taken a shine to it. I am running it with incredikernel and it has been 'incredibly' stable and fast. Sorry for the pun, but it was just incredible.
incredikernel is the way to go.
I run SR 3.5 because of stability, clean and fast.
CM7 RC1.5 #5 is stable and fast imo. Gotta give it a go!

[Q] Started with Sprint Lovers, now what?

So I ended up with the Sprint Lovers ROM on my phone via the Autoroot method.
It has been great so far, battery life is tons better, but it isnt perfect. I find it laggy at times.
So, my question is, where should I go from here? What would be a good ROM to transition to? Seems like Fresh, Warm 2.2, and EViO are some of the more recommended ROMs.
I am also liking what I believe is the look of vanilla android. At least, the set-up I see on the Nexus phones. That being said, what does everyone recommend for ROMs of that style?
Gingerbread- CM7 w/ Tiamat kernel
Sense- King's Ultra or Myn's w/ a net-archy kernel
cm7, its lovely
Try every single one. It's like getting a new phone every week or however often you flash.
Cm7 or my new home; salvage mod 1.1

MIUI. The only thing I wish was that it had 4g. If you can find the version before the most recent, I would go with that.
if u love sense based rom, then u will love sense 2.0 based rom
try Warm Z or recently released MikZ
Yes, Sense 2.0 is much better if you can live without 4g. I would recommend trying Warm RLS5, Warm Z, MikFroyo, Kings Unleashed, VaelPak, Miui and CM7 or variant of.
Myn's Warm Z is to die for.
Koni's new elite 3 is off the chain. Nets 4.3 bfs more haves sbc= all day fun.

Vaelpak has had me drooling on my screen every night. I love CM7, but the GPS bug kills me.=[ Oh Warm Two Point Two is awesome too but it doesn't float my boat when it comes to gaming. Even with a netarchy kernel. =\

If you like Sense and the way that Sprint Lovers in general operates, I'd say there's no reason to switch out to a completely different ROM. Just get a new kernel, the netarchy kernels are pretty nice in my experience. And then just set up SetCPU for some overclocking fun.
At least that's what I did, but I'm really very particular in how I want my rom to look and work. If you're more open minded, then there's no reason to not go out and try different roms like the ones recommended above.
CM7, just do the REALLY simple GPS fix beforehand. It's beaten like a dead horse in the nightly thread. Then flash it and you'll never want to go back to sense.
Agreed on vaelpak. Flashed 6 roms in 5 days. Have kept vaelpak for 2 weeks since then.

definitely cm7
How does a ROM help battery life? Mine SUCKS! Won't last an 8 hour shift with mild use. I'm on the SprintLovers ROM from UAR. I bought the Sedio Extended battery and it's only mildly better with more bulk. What gives??
You need to flash a custom kernel till you find the rite fit for your phone. I use nets 4.3 sbc more havs and with the 3500 extended battery I can get a little over 24 hours with heavy use.

Explain that please. I'll find and figure out flashing the kernal, but what does "more havs" mean? Misspell? Just making sure I'm not missing an acronym. There's no way my battery will last 24. You have the Sedio?

This link will explain everything you need to know about kernels with more havs, less havs, sbc, no sbc, it should help you a lot. I get 24 hours plus with heavy usage. I have the sedio 3500 mah battery.

Kernel question

What's better for battery life, SUV or HAVS??? And r there any kernels out for gingersense ROMS yet??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
This link should help
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894880
Personally I've had terrible luck with any suv kernels on my evo so havs has been better for me.
There are NO kernels out there for 2.3 sense roms only 2.2.
Right now I'm running Gingersense with the latest netarchy more havs sbc kernel. For some reason though I can't download from the market anymore... still trying to figure that one out.
That being said Gingersense is still awesome!
I have had the best luck and battery life with HAVS the best for me was Tiamat_Evo v3.3.8. I would also suggest in using the Kernel Manager app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030486.

(Q) Best kernel for MIUI atm?

I'm very new to MIUI and am now on Squeezed edition by Mr.Garak (lovely btw). From what I've been reading there are a few kernels out there which people swear by. The 2 most prominent ones seem to be Lord's and Talon. I'm on Talon 1.04 atm as it came with the rom I'm on (1.9.30)
Now to the questions...
What is the difference between the two? Is one focusing on speed and the other on batterylife?
Any major issues with either one? Which one should I go for when I want a troublefree fast rom with great batterylife using setcpu and no UVscripts?
And what governers are you guys using?
MIUI is CM7 based, so anly CM7 kernel should work. One piece of advise, if the kernel as a CFS and a BFS version, DO NOT USE the BFS one.
As to which kernel is better... it's highly relative. Try them both
IMO Talon is great when it comes to batterylife. It's also fast, but not as fast as Lord's, but again, the battery life is great.
Test them both and see for yourself.

Using talon 1.05 ATM, working very well.
