[Q] How to use wireless keyborad on Desire? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,my DHD already bought a month ago,I like it a lot ,but i feel a question that using desire hd,enter word is not fast, and I had a bad feel on my finger.
I thought that answer is my last PDA is Diamond, yes! u doesnt listen wrong! i always use the pen to enter word on diamond... So I can not meet new phone, and my frienf says:why not bought a keyborad? But i know that HTC havent USB OTG...so i lookto apple wireless keyborad~but i afraid that i found cant using after i bought....so i wanna ask xda's partner have any people even use wireless keyboard on Deisre HD or anybody know if it can using?

Instead on buying a wireless keyboard, just get yrself on a nice virtual keyboard, sense stock keyboard but I recommend swype, it's nice instead

One handedness!

Forgive me if this has been discussed before!
I am seriously considering getting the Xda Orbit, but am slightly hesitant because of the lack of keyboard. My pda background is Palm, my current model being the treo 650. I have never owned a PPC/WM5 device!
I have a dislike for using the stylus to 'poke' the screen for input and have often shied away from apps that require stylus input. Clearly I am going to have to overcome this 'illness' if I get the Orbit
I know its early days, but can anyone tell me to what extent can I expect to avoid stylus use with the Orbit? I am thinking in terms of when I have to send sms text and the odd email plus quite a lot of appointment entering usage. I guess this boils down to how much 'One handedness' there is in WM5.
TIA
Hey I am exactly same as you. I hate poking with stylus as I am more used to using Nokia phones.
I love Spb software based Full Screen Keyboard this allows me to use my fingers to type.

There is Phonepad for you to use.
My XDA Orbit arrived 2 days ago, works like a charm, but..... i cannot find the "phone pad" option for inputting. The Prophet had it, but not the Orbit.
Does anybody know if this is just the Orbit? or does the HTC version have the phone pad missing as well?

so i guess my question now is.. is there a pouch for 4" smartphones with an additional pouch for any of these bluetooth kekyboards?
I've been trying to get an Apple BT keyboard to work with the Vibrant, but no go yet. It was working with a G1. I'll get back on that project next week.
I bought one becasue i have multiple uses for a device like this
It does not work as is...maybe a software fix needed
oh you bought which?
Mini Bluetooth Keyboard??
what u mean it doesn't work as is?
wouldn't it be better if there was a pouch to keep both of them ...
i'm looking for a pouch with two slots...u should too.. it'll make it alot easier to handle keyboard on the go!!

I'm looking for one for my HTC Touch Cruise (P3650). I know that there was a pouch for the 'Freedom Slim Bluetooth Keyboard' that's discontinued now (See attachment 3)
Do you know where I can find it? Thanks

Samsung Vibrant Does NOT Support HID
Hey everyone,
I've been looking for Bluetooth controllers and Keyboards for the Samsung Vibrant (T-Mobile). According to my research the ITON Mini Bluetooth Keyboard uses a Bluetooth driver called HID to communicate with other devices.
The Samsung Vibrant does NOT support HID. This means the ITON Mini Keyboard will NOT work with the Vibrant.
However.... there may be a work around. BlueInput (Google it) is a HID Driver sold on the Android market for $10.00. So in theory... ITON Mini Keyboard + BlueInput Driver + Vibrant = Working Solution.
However, I've read many post about the BlueImput Driver which state, it doesn't work on the Vibrant.
The only other options are to wait for the Vibrant to get Android 2.2 or a custom Cyanogen ROM which supports HID.
I flashed teamwhiskey's Onyx rom (froyo with touchwiz software removed and black theme) and my bluetooth keyboard (uses HID) works flawlessly. The rom has been completely stable so far and has a lot of other features, so if you guys are up to it you may just want to flash to froyo rather than buying unproven software.

Can you please post a YouTube video of your accomplishment? I would love to flash my Vibrant with a new Rom but I've only used Cyanogen Mod. I've never heard of TeamWhiskey and am hesitant to take a risk. I really don't want to brick my phone.

You don't have to take my word for it, check out the vibrant development forum. Team whiskey's roms, along with eugenes macnut roms, are possibly the most popular and well respected roms available for vibrant at this time.
I've checked them out and they seem legit. I'm interested in flashing Onyx but I need my swype keyboard. Do you know if it's painless to have my cake and eat it too?
I've also seen that there is a front facing camera jack for the vibrant... Very interested in that as well

Correct. I just paired a Sony Wireless Keypad for the PS3 to this Vibrant running Macnut v12! Just go to Wireless settings, Bluetooth, make device discoverable, power up the keypad by pressing the left blue button before powering the device, pair devices, and type whatever pin number the phone asks you to type on the keypad. It took me a few times to go through it but I am amazed that it works while the phone is being charged.
Now see if I can pair the keypad again after I power it down?
At least you can find this keypad almost anywhere Playstation 3 accessories are sold.

Desire Multimedia Dock - Possible?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering is there a multimedia dock for the Desire? I've just seen reviews and previews of the Motorola Atrix and it got me thinking...
Wouldn't it be nice to use the Desire on your computer? Some times I find it a chore to text someone when I'm also on the computer, but a screen there with your phone readily there in front of you, to be able to instantly reply via typing instead of Swyping (as I usually do).
Anyway, here's the review I've seen via GSM Arena: http://www.gsmarena.com/mwc_2011_motorola-review-571.php
It would be nice - If there is no multimedia dock, is there the possibility to do this via adb? That would also be fine, as I can get a dock and just connect it via usb and use the phone via adb.
Thanks!
Bump?

If you root get Droid .nc server from the market. It isn't as fast but works quite well and if you want dock buy one of amazon

I've used VNC Servers and also Screencast which is basically the same thing. It's just pretty depressing that the FPS is somewhat under par for what I was wanting to use it for.

RII mini Bluetooth Keyboard w/ Touchpad

So i purchased the RII Mini BLuetooth keyboard excited to have it work with the Webtop...and alas there is an issue with the drivers. I was super excited as it has both a keyboard and a wireless touch pad and thought it would be perfect but it just aint working.
Has anyone been able to get this working? Or considered trying it?
Edit...got it paired. not drivers needed. Unlike other devices where the pairing is coded on one end, the keyboard requires that once you've inputted the desired code on you Atrix, that you put the same code in on the keyboard and press the enter button. Voila. A great product - highly recommended especially for webtop users.
goog-ed, nice looking product. glad to have a confirmed all in one solution when i need one. Thanks
quick link to goog shopping results for n e 1 wanting to check it out http://goo.gl/FEb6M
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on this too... just FYI, there are two different models, one for 2.4 Ghz and one for bluetooth, and they are not well described on Amazon and the like; I'll post the appropriate links below:
http://www.amazon.com/ProMini-Wirel...EUBI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302464752&sr=8-2
http://www.riitek.com/product.asp
You need the Bluetooth one
if it says 2.4ghz, it's the wrong one.
I've been using one of these with my HTPC setup for a while and I love it!
Can't wait!
I just ordered one, since I was seriously looking for a portable bluetooth keyboard to take around with me and use for my phone and laptop. It should be coming in today, and once I have time, I'll probably make a video on using it, just like I did one when I had the original Droid.
I'm also waiting for mine to be delivered, along with a bluetooth mouse. Should make the webtop experience much more useful.
I don't know, now I'm thinking of going this route: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011FOOI2/ref=cm_cr_asin_lnk
The question is, do I really use webtop that much???
For your dollar, well spent
I sent an email asking the quality, more importantly will it work with the atrix? And has anyone complained about it and the atrix combo.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Mini-Wireless-B...&otn=3&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=8444646627280274537
Thats well worth the 19$ if it works.
If they say yes I'll buy one, and let you guys know.
@swiftks
I use it quite a bit but couldnt justify over 100 bucks. Looks spify though^_^

I ordered one of these and it went back to Amazon immediately. Quality was bad..two keys didn't work; one not at all and one only if you pushed really hard. Too expensive for that kind of thing. I wound up buying the Moto keyboard and paired a Verbatim bt mouse....
i was thinking about getting one of these for usage with webtop and when traveling. I actually ordered one, but had to cancel the order when i realized i got the non bt by accident and haven't reordered yet. There is also another version on amazon thats a keyboard only thats a bit cheaper but might actually be better designed for tapping out lonf messaves.
For fhose that have one, how comfortable is it to type a message/email with the Rii? Im still not a fan of these touch only keyboards which are much slower and less ac urate than say the slide out keyboard on my old tilt.

can someone confirm that using a BT keybpard works with the Atrix and the Webtop hack. In other words, I have the webtop hack working. If I leave this by my TV can I use the BT keybaord to control the device?
has anyone tried this keyboard with the Atrix and will the mouse work?

I had the webtop hack working with a bluetooth keyboard (Motorola) and mouse (Verbatim brand). It worked fine. Since I upgraded to .83 firmware I didn't reinstall the hack since I mainly use the lapdock now.
Off topic-anybody want to buy a Motorola Bluetooth keyboard (works fine)? Since I use the lapdock (see above) I don't use it. $50 shipped in Continental USA.
Works perfectly with RII bluetooth and webtop
Yep it works perfectly. Very good keyboard. Laser pointer is a nice benefit for cats
could also try the bt ps3 logitech keyboard. i have it right now and works great!

Well here I am tyoing in this keyboard while my atrix is connected to my 52 inch plasma using the webtop hack. Its a fantastic combination that cost me $40 imstead of the $179 Motorola wamts. As soon as it saw bluetooth, the atrix went into big clock mode, which in itself is nice. Keyboard is small but useable but does take some getting used to. It has a tracball for a mouse, which works but isn't so easy to navigate. Also pairing isn't well explained. When atrix asks Dor code put 1111 THEN 1111 enter on the bt keyboard!
Whole combination is amazing. Browsing the web on the tv is an exoerience.
This atrix really is unique.
I was also able to go into the entertainment center and can go forward or back through a movie. And keep it picture in picture.
And answer a call.
Astounding!

Got mine working today, did passcode on phone then just pressed the same passcode on keyboard and enter. Worked well.
Thanks
Wow im glad I stumbled on this thread. I ordered mine last night from eBay.. Good to see it will work AFTER I make the purchase of course lol
