[Q] Exchange Downgrade?? - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

My previous phone was a DINC. I was excited to get my DINC2, but when I was setting up my company e-mail, it seems that they have downgraded the capabilities of the built in exchange client. My company enforces policies, which include device encryption, and SMIME messaging. These features all worked on my DINC after the froyo upgrade, and have been using since. Now, I get the new phone, and those features do not exist? Any advice before I put it back in the box and ship it back?

Yes I'm having the same issue...the sad part is the only workaround is exchange by touchdown...the app works well but the unlock key is 20.00, the demo is 30 days and I'm actually considering purchasing it. It has more functionality than the included exchange sync.

I use Touchdown. It's way better than the native exchange capability in the phone.

HELP: Exchange Company Address Book Lookup

Hi all,
I am trying out a Desire this weekend, in general like it. I have got the Exchange sync to work for mail, cal & contacts however if I try to access the Company Directory (GAL) or Search the Inbox I get nothing returned.
I downloaded TouchDown to test and this works fine. But I dont want to use a 3rd Party tool for email (or I could have got a Nexus).
Has anybody else seen this error before, or have any idea's? Other wise its mail if back Monday.
Thank for your help.
Peter
Nobody can help
So HTC say, remove the sync and re-create. Does nothing.
Company IT say there are no more settings to change.
Am I the only person that has seen this, I found one other when searching web, but nobody replied.....
As an alternative would look at a GAL address book viewer?
Any help would be great, newbie with the phone and forum.
Whats your Exchange Version? For me with Echange 2010 it works fine.

The OWA server and Exchange Server is 2007. Did you have issues in the past?
I have the same issue only with Exchange 2003 (we'll be moving to 2007 soon). Was chuffed to finally get my email working today (firewall and all that) and have realised I can't browse the GAL. Might try Touchdown (although I had installed it before - will it let me use it as a Trial again???)...

I and a colleague of mine have the same problem with Exchange 2003 SP2. GAL search works fine on other phones (i.e. the iPhone).
I've seen people report that it works for them though, so I have no clue what's wrong, but I have an open ticket with HTC on the issue.
Well l'm using touchdown at the moment and it appears to work really well. Everything I could want from a client. Need to see if it is worth $20 though before taking the plunge. HTC Mail is a bit limited in comparison. although the OP doesn't want to buy a third party app I would say that is one of the points of Android that if the stock app doesn't work you can get hold of an app that does...

Thanks for the feedback, I also opened a ticket. Seems like very few people have reported this as and issue they either get all or nothing syncing.

I tried Touchdown, the issuethat I have is that the calander is then not combined which I really do like as a feature, and as far as I can see I cant just use it for email and get it to link to the standard apps I have to use it for contacts and Cal as well.
Same for me. I am syncing mails, calendar and contacts without any problems. Only company directory does not work.
I think it is not a connection problem. It is always telling me that nobody could be found. That is even happening when network connections are disabled. So it seems if this tool does not even try to connect.
Thats interesting, I did not try turning off the comm's, so at least it points to a software issue then. More hope HTC might fix it.
I think there may be an issue with contacts lookup via GAL/ Exchange 2003 on HTC STOCK Mail app. nothing shows up.

I had the same problem running Exchange 2003
GAL becomes inaccessible if security profiles are enabled ("Enforce password on device", etc..) and "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings" is disabled.
A bad workaround is to enable "Allow access to devices that do not fully support password settings", but that may prevent you from remotely wiping some devices and prevent some devices from initializing security profiles.
A better workaround is to add your account to the exceptions list. Doing that will enable access to GAL but disable the exchange lock screen.
I believe this is happening because either Android 2.1 or HTC mail application either doesn't support Exchange security profiles completely, or doesn't report them correctly.
Hi all, we have a product that might be of interest to you called GALSync Server. Unfortunately I can't post a URL but I'm sure you can find it with a bit of Googling.
It works by sync'ing a copy of the GAL into selected users' Exchange mailboxes which ActiveSync or BES then syncs in turn to the user's device. Works with iPhone or Windows Mobile.
We love it.
But we would wouldn't we.
Thanks for your time!

Thanks for the heads up, however its not what I am looking for:
1. You dont support Android from what I can tell.
2. I have to get the company to set it up.
I was hoping to either fix the HTC sync or an app on the handset that can get access.
Thanks
Agree with baronb. HTC needs to fix this issue. Corp IT Administrators will not make exceptions to their security settings. Also, I know from using Touchdown by Nitrodesk that it does, and CAN work.

I talked with HTC hot desk who were not very helpful and seemed to have lost my previous information. They said I should wait for an update!
At this point I am starting to look at alternatives as the lack of GAL for me while on the road was an issue last week.
Is there any more info on this one? I am having this bug too and it is the only thing stopping me from recommending the Desire as a suitable phone for my company to use for all staff right now!
Nothing, yet will bug Hotdesk again this week. The more people to log the error maybe the faster they will fix it.....+44 8458900079

Exchange password policy

I just got my sgs2 this afternoon and something strange I cannot figure out is when I sync up with my job's exchange server via activesync it is enforcing a security policy to have me use either a PIN or password lock screen. Before my sgs2 I had a sgs1 Epic 4G on Sprint and using the same connection method, I was never forced to have a password or PIN.
Any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Its a policy set from your exchange admin and your previous phone most likely did not have an updated email client that would enforce it but our GS2 will. If you search google there is a email.apk with no securities that bypasses this. Your phone will need to be rooted though for you to get it to work. Thats what I was using for a while until I mentioned this to my exchange admin and he removed the pin security restriction policy.

Thanks -- I may see if I can edit the email.apk file myself, as I don't want to lose the sgs2 email layout (split screen, folding dates, etc.). I used to use Enhanced Email on my E4G and I can't even use that on my SGS2 now. Weird.
In case anyone has the same issue, this .zip file attached to the OP worked perfect for me.

Cerberus Security App

Hey XDA members,
In case you didn't know Cerberus is offering free licences over the next week.
It's a great alternative app to SeekDroid, with as much if not more functionality..dl the app from market
This was reported on Reddit, below is the link to redeem the free licence
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFR4VHNka3czd2FJV2FIaXFYTHp0aGc6MQ
Check out their twitter, if you have concerns it's not legit

I'm probably paranoid, but this smells fishy. Can anyone confirm this is legit?

The same link is posted on their Facebook page...
I had the same feeling. That link looks a bit dodgy.. no logos or markings, just asking for info. Has anyone tested this yet?

Like it has been pointed out, if you have doubts, go to their website: https://www.cerberusapp.com/
Click on the link to their facebook site: http://www.facebook.com/CerberusAndroid
Or click on the link to their twitter account: http://twitter.com/#!/cerberusapp
You'll find the link on both sites too.
Cerberus
I'm using it - already paid for license so can't take this opportunity. Feature wise it's the most advanced anti theft app I've tried. You can also flash it using custom recovery so it should work even if factory reset is done on your phone.
Having said that, I often experience "Unable to connect to your phone." Error from the web interface ( supports SMS pwd protected commands too )
I went for it. Been testing this app for the last few days. So far, I think it's worth paying for but just haven't gotten to it yet.
Thanks for posting this and saving me a few bucks!

I filled out the form and it said my info has been recorded. No confirmation email or any cerberus markings. It said all registrations will become active on March 1st.

How do you do this? The app needs to have your login/password entered when first ran?
Guys, stop being paranoid, this app is awesome, i bought it a few weeks ago and it rocks. Tracks, voice records, takes pics of thief, takes screenshots etc so much power.
This is where you login to track etc your phone, even remote wipe etc
https://www.cerberusapp.com/
Thanks so much for this saves me a couple bucks
I can agree with the other users. I only used the app for two of the five trial days they give you before I bought the license. I have three devices on my account.
I've had the paid version of Cerberus for a few months now. Yes, it's a great application.
However, the problem with Cerberus (and all other applications like it) is that it needs a data connection or a SIM with credit. That means if your thief removes the SIM and replaces it with one that has no credit or never turns the WiFi on, you're out of luck.
Though it's still better to have Cerberus than to have nothing at all.
Not saying you should or shouldn't use this app, but I have a question. In many states in the USA is illegal to record the info this app does. So what happens if you tried to press charges? None of this could be used against the person that stole the phone if you happen to live in one of those states. Hell they could prolly sue you for invasion of privacy in the USA we live in today.

Just to clarify, I'm not paranoid about the app. I already have the free version. It was just the link that seemed dodgy, and seeing as though I don't have Facebook or twitter I can't personally confirm it's legit. Seems ok enough for me to try after these few comments. let's give it a try then.

The lack of no confirm email freaked me out. I was typing quickly so I misspelled (or I think I misspelled) my email, so I did it again to make sure. But w/ no confirmation, who knows!
On twitter, cerberus said in fact so many users typed their password instead of the email >.<

If a theif inserts an unauthorized sim, SMS alerts are automatically sent to your emergency contact numbers.

They have a client app you can load on another phone to send commands also.

That's my point. If the SIM doesn't have any credit (not everyone is on a contract), you won't get that alert. In that case you'd have to hope that the thief ends up setting up WiFi on the phone.

[Q] Corporate Exchange Email apk that bypasses security?

Is there an apk like this available for the GS3? I just got mine yesterday and haven't been able to locate one yet.

Doubtful.. Besides, why would you want to bypass security on an exchange server? Your IT department needs to configure permissions for your login to have corporate email.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117452
If you're wanting to prevent having to enter a PIN on your lockscreen, touchdown localizes the enterprise security parameters to the app itself, and allows your exchange to, kind of, be partitioned from the rest of your phone - security wise. So, basically you enter the PIN when you enter the app.

Exchange E-Mail App / Push

Hallo Guys,
can someone of u recommend a simple Email App with Push notification Support?
I used the Basic Email App which was shipped with custom Roms before.. but since Android Nougat Push notifications doesnt Work Most of the time and its Overall Buggy.
Now i tried aquamail but the Push function doesnt Work with my Exchange Microsoft Live Account.
What app are U using?
And no... I dont want to use Gmail. Since it sucks and doesnt offer Push aswell...
Would be awesome if the all also sync contacts... The Outlook App isnt that reliable IMO. Since it also have Problems with syncing very often...
Cheers
I had run into a similar problem. Ended up using "mail wise" from the play store. Worked well, but it had ads and all that garbage unless you pay for it. I had my phone rooted and had adaway on, so the ads didn't really bother me all that much. But we just moved to mobileiron at work and now can't figure out a way around it (yet).
Sent from my ONEPLUS 3 using Tapatalk
Was using Cloudmagic (now Newton) but it's pretty garbage now with all the important features needing paid subscription. So I switched to Bluemail. Ad-free and supports push notification.
