Hi guys!
I've been waiting for Froyo's source code by htc for a long time now, probably as much as most of you around here, and expected that within the first few days,if not hours,we would have an explosion of new versions for Sense roms or even new ones.Well, until now such a thing has not happened as you may have noticed!
How long do you expect it to be until we see the first devs working with the htc kernel source?I know it's a little too early, but I'd expect that most would instantly release something!
Thanks in advance!
Which changes would you like to see? I understand that having the source code kernel can be important for devs, but I don't see directly what can and cannot be changed. I am not a developer, I am a user. Maybe it is a good idea to create a to-do list of possibilities or a wanted changes list or something... just thinking loud .

It's not a question of what changes can be made. It's question of building a kernel which is 100% compatible with our devices. The kernel we are using now is probably from the Nexus One sources. Close, but not 100%.
Hey so I just recently started rooting and have experimented with a few ROMs and I really like Synergy a lot, but it has a lot to fix and I'm not understanding something. I see all over the place about Synergy nightlies but I don't see where I can get them? All I see is the download link from 7/17. I see the changelog that states that the locations settings issues were fixed on 7/19, but how do I get this? I see everyone talking about how great it is, and I agree but after a couple minutes it force closes every couple minutes and it unusable. What am I missing? Thanks
I couldn't tell you why the nightlies aren't posted BUT you may find something in the Synergy rom thread on page 204. I had the same question awhile back but then I stumbled onto that post. I haven't used the rom in weeks so idk about issues/solutions
You can find the ILLEGAL as HELL Synergy nightlies, which no novice user should be considering anyways, at infectedrom.com.
What exactly is a knightly build? I'm somewhat familiar with custom roms, but I have no idea what knightly is. I have done a few searches on xda, but i have only turned up with a knightly build rom page, rather than information pertaining to what it is. Could someone please explain this to me?

Well, it's nightly actually.
Basically it's a bot that complies the source, including any commits [say like those listed here], and then spits out a .zip file every "night."
Thus the term "nightly."
Not all ROMs have nightly bots. And it's important to note that just because there's a new nightly it doesn't mean anything has changed since the last one.
so they only change things when someone reports a bug or they improve the rom in some way, otherwise it is the same .zip every night until an update?
Thanks for explaining
Not quite. Groups that run nightly bots tend to be highly active. Some push out the nightly every night, or every x nights (every 3 nights for ex). Think of the nightly builds as alpha or beta testing grounds. Some stuff gets added and if the testers like it, it typically stays . Take a look at cyanogen nightlies... reading the logs should give you a pretty good idea what nightlies are
Hello boys and girls,
Thanks to Scooter1556 Michga and MaRekRM I am now able to do some porting (well, actually it is more of a copy/paste venture) on the GINGERBREAD roms of other HTC phones, like the HTC Wildfire and HTC Hero. The files I posted in this thread are only for the gingerbread builds and don't work for the other versions of Android. Since this is porting on your own, I can't possibly know what does and doesn't work for you. But just to give an example I never have gotten the wifi working.
These files are just taken from Scoot's latest android build:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8992815/xda/porting/Copy/paste.zip
Be sure to remove all the files in the original build first, EXCEPT the files in the permission folder. You just need to add the files which are present in the paste folder, but not present in the system folder you are porting.
And as always I am not responsible if you break/brick your phone (I do advise using the haret method when you're purely experimenting with different roms)
**And if you find a nice rom combination for our kaiser, then don't feel ashamed to post the combi**
Also if you find a better way of which files to port, then please post your improvement. And if your find other devices from which we can port the roms, also post them
Have fun!!
**I advise using 7zip, http://www.7-zip.org/, when unpacking and repacking the system folder!**
Hi,
It's great that someone interested yet in the Android on Kaiser project.
I'm installed scoot's latest ROM some days ago. It's mostly stable enough (not perfect but really, really not as bad), fast and smooth for me with 500Mhz OC setup, and have a nice position in benchmarks also.
But I have some problems (like the total lack of power saving), and I have a little time to check it out if I can do something to fix or optimize something. So I'm glad that the CM7 project is living yet on the forum.
Well, so as I see the kernel itself is the bigger problem in porting, because of the oldish Kaiser specific drivers. Are these drivers in my current install is compiled from source (and if yes are these have a downloadable source), or collectible from other devices, or we have to stick to 2.6.32 kernels and use these binaries what we have now? I'll thank some of your helpful experiences shared in this topic.
What else... it's a bit late here, let me see if we can progress in the topic, it would be great if the porting would be open for everyone who want to participate.
Steve
I am sorry if I gave you the wrong idea, but I am really quite a noob on android development, my knowledge is really limited. I am just able to read the given tutorials and I am able to google my problems, but it is not like I actually know something.
The original source for the package which I posted in this thread is, I should have mentioned befor, given in this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996431
I just followed the instructions in this thread and also got help from MaRekRM in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382722
But that's all I know, I hope that a actual developer notices your question, but although I really want to be helpfull, I can't. Due to my limited knowledge.
**I just posted this thread to make it easier to port for other, who didn't feel like searching for the aforementioned thread**
Thank you hom.hom. Yes, these posts help me a lot. I see the basic strategie behind the porting. I made some research today around the possibilites.
The problem is that the Kaiser have MSM7200 CPU, and devices based on this version only shipped with windows mobile. Android only installed on MSM7200A, which is nearly the same CPU. I think the only difference is the increased speed. At least, as I see in the specifications. So now I'm collecting anything Android related stuff from devices based on MSM7200A.
I also managed to get the CM version of the HTC Hero and HTC Wildfire to boot, so it is not only the msm7200 processor. I think you might even be able to also port the msm72xx proc.'s to the htc kaiser. Also the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 pro has roughly the same specs so you might even give that one a roll.
And if you find a nice rom out there in the other forums, you can just post them here.
And glad to be a help!
Re
Hi
Thanks.
That long time ago when we discussed about it i successfuly made a sense rom for kaiser.. i think it could be too on SD and on mobile (sry, i forgot name of this first option in install menu) it was slow, but not too much.. With little more tweaks and upgrades it will be usable.. and it was stable..
It was too for 320x240 so ther wasnt any problem with resolution
Unfortunately, somehow i lost it.. (maybe i deleted it, i dont know) and i tried it again many times but nothing.. worse is i dont know which model exactly was (i mean wildfire,hero,....)
i did it with same steps as you wrote..
Now Im iSheep.. So i dont working on it yet..
I think now cannot be ported ICS because we havent any ICS kernel for iphone.. Latest is GB
Hey and i forgot for something..
I made ports from:
MyTouch 3G
Hero
Tattoo
Wildfire
So good luck and i believe here will be more ports..

I think you can make a hero-based rom.. In "Kaiser and. dev. forum" are some roms based on hero.. but there is a little problem with resolution.. default is 320x480.. but somehow if i remember, can be ported to QVGA (320x240).. So try it
Update 16/02/2012: Download link for pure stock AOSP build is available in post 5 of this thread.
------------
I'm just wondering if anyone is aware of a publicly available and completely stock 4.0.3 build.
I know I can build from source (I'm doing so right now), and I know I can download AOSP based ROMs from the dev section; but does anyone know if there is a -stock- AOSP build of 4.0.3 available to download?
P.S. If there isn't, does anyone think it would be worth me uploading one?

4.0.3 is available as src. Build it, you'll have 4.0.3 stock.
I simply dont understand the point of questions like these about a aosp supported device.
I think it would be a great idea.

The point of the question is this: not everyone has the available resources to build from source; personally I do but at the time of the post I was two hours in to a 6 hour build procedure.
For me personally, it would have been nice to just be able to download a stock master build and not spend 6 hours; thus I asked the question. Your answer provided nothing at all other than a dose of negativity.
As we can see from atlman28's reply, I'm not the only person who would find this helpful.
Now that my build is complete I will see about hosting it and posting for anyone else who may be interested.
And here we are.
Stock 4.0.3_r1 build direct from AOSP; built on a clean Ubuntu VM; no modifications:

what did you want? an awnser "oh please yes make me a rom because i don't have the patience to do it" - yeah, that's right, are you guys using machines from what age, to take 6 hrs to build for the first time? you got to be talking about first sync only, because, no mods, excluding repo init/first sync time, just straight up make, it's 1h to build (after doing make clean/make installclean) for me. quad-core, 4gb [email protected] 'make -j8 otapackage'.
other people have done the same, if you wanted such a build you could have just googled it and you'd see that you're not the only ones that have a need for it. seriously, you never thought that no one has shared/built that already?

I did a quick search of the dev forum and Google before asking my question; if you were aware of existing stock builds available for download somewhere why did you not simply say so? It would have taken less effort to type than your other reply.
Not all of us have access to new hardware; you're correct that the 6 hours included first sync and it was only 2 hours to build for me. However that doesn't change the fact that I had to invest 6 hours of machine time into it, and an hour or so of my own time to get it all going. Not everyone has fast enough hardware, or enough time to invest in something like this.
For a lot of people it's either a passing hobby or simple curiosity; having a pre-built ROM available for download is nothing more than a convenience.
I would also like to point out that I was not saying "oh please yes make me a rom because i don't have the patience to do it" but rather "is there a faster way for me to achieve my end goal?" and when the reply was "no" I said "here is a faster way to achieve your end goal" to anyone else who was in the same boat as me.
This whole post was a simple polite question... yet for some reason you feel the need to come and spread negativity without offering anything of value to the thread.
