A battery question - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What would b the reason for a battery not to take charge??
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App

How are you charging it? USB or wall charger? It could be a bad cable or charger. Have you used any SBC kernels?

Battery could have just gone bad. I had one from launch day that would not charge. took it to a service center battery only they tested it and gave me a new one.

Wall charger..n yeah I switched kernels last night..I had tiamat SBC n switched to godmode to see how that was...when I woke up this morning my phone was fully charged but once I unplugged it n said yo charge my phone...could it b the kernel cuz right now its charging

possibly.... Thats the beauity with kernels. what works for you might not work for me.
Im running Tiamat with the viperboy -100 script.

Ok then...ill just wait till tiamat 4.0 is fixed then...thanks for the help

Perhaps your battery was extra drained, to the point where it won't register the voltage. You can leave it on the charger for a while, or take it to sprint and they should be bale to jump it.
Wow I never heard of that. Any no a great Rom with everythingworking fast and good battery. I was running eternal 5.9 I loved it but it drains to fast.

I for one get fantastic battery life on Deck's 2.3.4 Rom.
Link
I use SavagedZen 2.1.0 as a kernel and I'm using an undervolt mod, and getting amazing battery life. Right now I'm at 11h 30min and I still have 40% left. The Rom also runs beautifully fast, especially with LauncherPro.
Try a different battery if it doesn't work unroot and take it to sprint

Q: Evo battery overheating on regular basis

Ok so I'm running cyanogen mod nightlies(September update) coupled with tiamat 4.0.7 + SBC. My battery regularly overheard while charging or when my screen stays on or using certain apps suck as angry birds, music, gameboid, snesoid, etc. Any ideas why it may be doing this and how it could be fixed? I've also run the cyanogen kernel and the regular 4.0.7 tiamat kernel. I've run decks roms, synergy equipped with the freedom kernels, and salvage-mod. Every configuration I use, I have the same problem. My battery hasn't been exposed to the extreme heat of the summer and its always charging in a cool place. I'm using the original HTC charger that came with the phone. Help would definitely be appreciated because its killing my battery. Thanks guys.

Are you overclocked?
Nope underclocked. Running smart-ass settings underclocked to 128 and Max is 768. Still hasn't solved the problem.

So it does it, even when it's not on the charger?
You may have a bad battery or a malfunctioning phone.
It does this all the time. Right now spare parts says its at 43.8°C but before i plugged it up i left it off for 20 mins and turned it on and it was at the regular 36°C. I'm hoping its not the phone. And this was a replacement battery I received from the sprint store after my last battery drained within 2 hrs on a daily basis. I've tried calibration and it doesn't help. Battery life is slowly degrading as well.

SBC kernels may overheat your phone.
Try a diffrent no-sbc kernel.

Try returning the phone to complete stock.
If it continues to do it then you're gonna have to take it in.

Well only problem with that is the fact that it did the same thing stock I got my replacement battery before I ever rooted my phone. So ill revert to stock and take it in for them to run a diagnostics test on it. Just gotta find the right location.

Well it sounds like either the replacement battery is bad, the charger is bad [causing the battery to be bad] or the phone itself has a problem.
Could be the charger. Half the time it registers as a USB charger but its the AC outlet charger and when it does switch over to AC it becomes even more prone to overheating. I know that when the battery overheats it can cause internal damage to the phone if it gets hot enough. Hope it hasn't done that yet.

Thanks. And I saw you're running the same setup as I am at the moment except you aren't using SBC. What's your average battery stats?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium

Extended battery.

I bought a extended battery awhile ago for my samsung fascinate. It worked great and charged just fine. Now when I try to use it in my samsung epic it works but will not charge at all says its charging for a second then stops. Any ideas. I tried google but nobody has said how they got them to work.

It should work with no problem. Sounds like it went bad.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
It seems like it didn't. I can pop it in my fascinate and it will charge fine

Supposed to be the same battery. Are the fingers in your phone bent any? Are you using the same charger for both?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Ya I checked that the prongs were all lined up and everything. If I charge it in my fassy and put it in my epic it will work fine but it won't charge. I used the same charger and then a couple different ones but still no luck

I am at a loss at this point. I wonder if clearing your battery stats would help any. Are you rooted with CWM?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Try in CWM
I wonder if you get a charging at all when the power is off? also what does it say if you are in CMW when you look it up? If that doesnt work maybe try resetting the statistics I dont think that will do anything but it might reset something we dont know that is happening in that smart battery.
Yes I'm rooted I have the latest cwm. I'm starting to wonder if its my kernal. I'm running the samuri kernal which is up to date. Eh mabey my epic just hates extended batterys. I haven't had a chance to check it threw cwm ill give that a try when I get off work in a few hours.

Put in the battery fully charged and boot directly into CWM and go to advanced and clear battery stats.
Well I tried clearing the battery stats and still nothing. It just discharges. I look in the about phone status and it says not charging. So I guess ill just try something else. Could it be the kernal mabey the samuri kernal does not support third party batteries.

the same thing is happening to me I'm on stock kernal and everything and it still is charging slow plus IV switched between four batteries can someone send some feedback
Hey bro,
alright first off bigger batter longer to charge but it should be full. So you need to check apps wifi 4g anything that might be killing your battery.
are you plugging it into a car or a computer? because not all usb chargers were created equal!

(Q)How long does it take you to charge phone?

How long does it usually take to charge your s3 fully? I ask because mine has always charged very fast but lately its taking sooo long to charge and I dont know why..what do you guys think?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
with the standard charger came with S3, usually took around 2h30 to fully charge.
Mine used to charge super fast but now its taking soooo long.. its takin me an unusually long amount of time.. any body know what could be up ?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I can't really tell you a time exact but not that long. Last night I was at 50% plugged it in and charged completely in bout 45 - 1hr. I usually don't touch it tho.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Takes me a about 2hrs. With the charging accessories that came with my phone. Are you using the original charging accessories?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Rogue app.
Yes everything I use is official samsung came outta the box.. I had been flashin quite a few roms then went back to complete stock lj4 and it just seems like its taking way too long to charge.. ive never noticed this problem infact I was always alarmed at how fast it would charge
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
With the phone turned off, it takes mine about 2 hours to charge.
When you flashed this last rom did you wipe data/factory reset?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I have a Q: My rom (SlimRom2.9.0) has an option for Quick Charge mode, where it will charge faster but you loose USB connectivity functionality (for connecting to a computer).
Will the SGS3 also take advantage of a higher output (2.1a) USB charger, ala iPad chargers? Does the circuitry inside detect and is smart enough to adapt?
Look at the battery stats and see if something is hogging it. Get something like battery drain analyzer to see the percentage you're charging at.
You guys think it has anything to do with the stock lj4 kernel? My battery life kicks ass 4 hours screen on with 17 + hours of battery life.. still charging is slower than usual. Hmmmm

I would try to drain the battery all the way down, then with the phone off, recharge it back to 100%.
After that see if there's any improvement.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Been on the charger for 4 hours ive been using it and booting to recovery here and there and from 8% im still only on 85%.. so damn strange. Tonight im going to borrow my buddys charger and see if it improves.. but this sucks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Mine takes about 2 hours from 15% sometimes I'll be playing a sandbox game and it will take much longer. Just don't unplug it when you plug it in.
My unicorn died, back on the pony.
Could it be a faulty battery?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Like most others on this post, my GS3 will take roughly 2 hours to charge.
Depends where I am charging from, usually I end my day with around 20-30% battery life still.

It could be. But to be sure id do the full cycle I mentioned before, and even consider flashing back to stock! Just for testing. You can always nandroid and go back if you like. Though a fresh rom flash may be better.

I use the charger from my 10.1 tab. I believe it runs at 5 amps. Definitely charges faster although I've never timed it by how much. If I charge it on the wall charger that came with my chinese batteries, it takes over 9 hours sometimes. Yet the chinese batteries only ever charge up to 91% on it's own charger, I have to charge the rest once I put it in the phone. Weird.
