few questions:
-before flashing your current rom yo did FULL WIPE?
-after flashing the rom you did WIPE BAT.STAT?
-WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND FOR BOOTSCREEN?maybe a bootanimation?
When you want to apply a theme on your OS you should clean the rom before flashing the theme.... if not.. you can enter in a boot loop
for solve it you can do various things:
1- restore nandroid backup if you did it before flash somethING.
2-or flash your rom again:
important you do FULL WIPE (FACT. RESET, CACHE, DALVIK) before anything.
then install your custom rom... and boot your device (for zipalign apkĀ“s..etc)
(but no complete the htc sense questions that your device ask in the first boot)
and enter in recovery, flash your theme if you want and reboot...
then enter again into recovery (CWM) and flash kernel.. reboot...
later you can enter into CWM again for to flash the rest of things
your problem is solved???
er.. ye. actually i just figured out my self lol, well some of them. the only thing that keeps bugging me now is whenever i tried to flash this lockscreen and kernel i always get stock at boot animation, but i can lock & unlock the screen though. (i used cwm for flashing)

So I did a simple reboot from CM7 and suddenly I get a boot loop. I then go into Clockwork recovery and try to fix permissions or do a factory reset, but it just reboots mid process. I'm scared of restoring my NAND backup because I fear that it will reboot in the middle and make things worse...
What am I supposed to do?
I managed to wipe the cache partition, but it didn't do any good. I guess I should use Odin, but I'm not sure how? What do I need to flash using Odin and how?
yes, use Odin and flash back the stock ROM, links on INDEX sticky
then try again to flash CM7 or whatever favourite ROM
To flash using Odin do I just use the same process for rooting? But instead of flashing Clockwork I'm flashing a ROM?

Thanks. I'm gonna try this and report back.
I flashed the stock ROM using Odin, but now it looping on the green android rocket animation. I get the animation, then the glowing Samsung logo for a while and then it repeats the rocket animation...
What now??
I Rebooted to recovery and wiped data and cache and it booted to the home screen!!
That was soooo nerve wrecking! That'll teach me not to mess with alpha builds... Thanks alot AllGamer!!!
So now I'm completely stock and unrooted right? I'll need to to reroot and reinstall clockwork to restore a backup?
yup, just use any of the easy to root method, and flash CWR + any ROM you like
Yea, I flashed CWR back and restored my pre CM7 backup.
I can't be sure that it was CM7 that caused this, but really all I did was reboot my phone...
I guess it's back to waiting for a stable CM7. If we'll even get one... If not then it's an even longer waiting period to CM9.
Hey guys,
I'm new to the Xperia Arc development and need some help with installing a custom rom. I've done quite a bit of reading but still can't figure out what is wrong and why it's simply not working.
So from what I gathered the steps to ensure a successful flash are:
Firstly flash a stock rom via flashtool ie LT18i_4.1.B.0.587.ftf
flash LT18i_4.1.A.0.562_Kernel > root the device > flash back to LT15a_4.1.B.0.587_Kernel
Then now that the device is rooted, I need to install a recovery such as CWM via RecoverX
So, so far so good as I can access CWM, stock rom works fine as well
So then next step is to unlock the bootloader
pretty sure this worked, as when i tried to unlock it again, it said it failed as it was already unlocked
Now flash a custom kernel, in this case i flashed the 146 FXP CM kernel
This also seemed successful as I was presented with a custom splash screen
So then after custom kernel is installed I enter recovery, wipe the cache and reset factory settings, format the data system and cache as well as wiping the dalvik and battery stats.
After, I installed the custom rom zip file, in this case it was aokp_anzu-ota-eng.kxp_build5 and then google apps and then reboot.
So my problems begin here.
My phone seems to be stuck in the boot process (sometimes), on the "initiating swagger" splash screen and it goes crazy. I've tried flashing this rom with other kernels (fusion 3.9) and sometimes it actually loads up into the rom. But the rom is extremely laggy, applications freeze and close and the wifi never works
So my question is, is there any steps or procedures that I am missing, not doing right or in the correct order?
I don't think it's any hardware issues as wifi works in the stock rom, and it's fairly smooth and fluid.
Also, is there a better way to flash roms so that I don't need to do this entire process of flashing a stock rom, rooting, unlocking bootloader, installing recovery every time I want to flash a new rom? And when I flash a custom kernel first, then flash a custom rom that has a kernel inbuilt (cm10) does the custom rom's kernel replace the one i just flashed, reason for asking is that the instructions say to flash the custom kernels and then the roms, but yeh just hasn't been working for me so not really sure how to do what.
I'd really appreciated any help or insight!
Thanks

Thanks! I've read your guide (what I based my flashing on) and it seems consistent with what I have done, on the surface of it anyway. If you think I missed or overlooked something, would it be possible to point it out?
If your boot loader is unlocked it's as simple as this...
1. Flash kernel
2. Wipe cache etc
3. Install ROM
...I always reboot before installing anything else as I've found it can break the installation of the ROM.

As ExpirienceD says, just one more thing flash kernel modules if you need to.
So:
1.Flash kernel
2.Full wipe data/cach...etc...
3.Flash ROM
4.Flash kernel modules

After trying to flash a new rom after being on AOKP M1 for a little while (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1875923) the phone got stuck at the Black and white Samsung Galaxy SIII screen and didn't boot upon hitting reboot system now on cwm. Tried again, tried reflashing and the whole 9 yards wouldn't boot at all. So I turned to odin and went to the prerooted latest JB build (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949687) and then reflashed touch cwm and tried to reflash the rom. Same problem. So, I odin'd back to the non rooted UVDLJA. Rerooted and reflashed cwm and blahblahblah. I said hmm maybe it's the rom, I then tried to flash this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993934) and when I tried to reboot system now after the process; again the phone got stuck at the black and white Samsung Galaxy SIII screen and did not boot. The phone works fine when I odin it to stock builds but refuses to boot custom roms. Can someone help me here? I haven't been able to find a solution for days. :crying:
PS I'm a noob, don't kill me lol
edit: forgot to include I have the Tmobile variant
Did you wipe data and cache when you flashed the new rom?

a few questions:
and i can verify the issue is something on your end, because the ROM you tried was mine, and nobody has had that issue (not booting it)
do this...
1. make sure you have the latest version of clockwordmod, don't use twrp
2. re-download my ROM (just for sake of not adding any other variables to your issue, because mine should boot)
3. put ROM on external SD card
before continuing... take a quick look at my thread here in QA titled "flashing ROMs correctly every time" .... so you can get some instruction on verifying MD5 of the download... don't worry, the thread will explain that you...
now proceed
4. boot to recovery
5. do a factory reset - 3 times do this, just to be thorough. people will say you don't need to, but like i said, just for the sake of removing variables
6. go to mounts and storage, format system 3 times - (yes, through recovery as well)
7. flash ROM, and reboot
EDIT*** i will say this, ALWAYS format system when flashing a new ROM

thanks for the info, will try this all out soon. I've been flashing roms for years now and have never run into anything like this, and as previously stated, this didn't occur solely with your rom which has me thinking something has happened to the phone itself. will get back to you soon and once again thank you

my point is...
coming from a cm based ROM, or aokp, whatever you said... you would want to format system as well.

I was having some of the same issues. I downloaded XquiziT's Superwipe and ran it by installing from external sd card. I ran it three times to clear everything out, then I wiped data, cache and the rest three times.
No probs for me after that.
Will definitely give that a try as well! Thank you! Will post my results when the holiday is over.
Happy thanksgiving

Hi guys! Happy New Year!!
I have a problem, I run MiNCO v6 ROM and till yesterday it worked properly, but i found the volume a little bitt low, so i installed Vomer's patch audiov5, available in his modding thread and designed for MiNCO ROMs, which didn't gave me any problem with past MiNCO ROM versions live v5 or v4.
So I went to recovery, installed mod from .zip and rebooted; after 5 minutes the device was still blocked on a screen saying: "Android Upgrade, Application starting..." or something like that; so i decided to remove battery, and put it back again. From this moment the phone is stuck in boot loop, if i turn it on it block on MINCO logo.
I can access recovery using fastboot mode so i tried to restore from a Nandroid i had on the device but recovery said there were no files, i don't know why.
SO what can i do?? I have original ROM zip saved on the memory of the device, maybe i could wipe cache and flash fresh ROM?? Do i need to wipe also data and dalvik?? Other solutions??
Thanks.
Wipe data. Flash a known good rom. I don't see why you needed to make a thread when you could get to recovery.

Sry if I just wanted to be shure of what I'm doing.
well,
that's my first post, and i'm french so for further error and inapropriate thing excuse me
I have the beautifull LG g pro, french model so it's e986. when I flash for the first time a rom on this phone (liquid/jellysmooth) I didn't get any problem at all...
you see the problem begin when I flash xperianze rom, it's not exactly a flashable zip but a backup, so I carrefully did a full wipe data/cache then format system then wipe dalvik cache.
when the phone reboot everything was ok until I see that i don't have any signal, it was because of my imei who disapeared...
so i decided to return to paranoid rom...same thing again...
after that i reflashed jellysmooth, everything seems to be ok until the phone reboot...
And here the phone freeze on the boot image!! and this is for every rom I flash! (CM11,10.2,10.3, PAC ,PA, Carbonrom, mokee... etc etc)
so the problem is not on the package,I think it's only on the boot.img, it freeze at the middle of the animation and then reboot again and again...
I tried philztouch, CWM with freegee, with 2nd-init, twrp 2.6 etc etc....
however don't worry about my imei I just recover it with flashtool so for now I'm on stock rom...
but you guess how much custom rom miss me :crying:
To resume, it's impossible to flash any custom rom without having a bootloop because of a freeze in the animation boot.
I noticed also that when i root a fresh stock recover from flashtool and install cwm, i can only flash 1 custom rom, jellysmooth worked for me after a return to stock rom. but when i want to flash another rom after that, I get this problem again ...
i'm not a novice, I didn't make an error like forgeting to wipe something because i did lot's of try ,in fact I have flashed more than 80roms with around 6 devices, because i want to find the best one (especially for game like real racing 3) but it's not the problem right?
So, please can you help me? :fingers-crossed:
Ho came on guy ! ?
