managed to downgrade the wifes DZ from 1.72 to 1.34, after some reading it appears visionary is no longer the way to get perm root these days so what is the prefered method now?

I originally rooted using rage, then I unrooted then rerooted using gfree.
gfree is the way to go. use this method.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928160
If you have ADB set up then use psneuters. If you however don't then use RAGE with a terminal emulator.
Try using one of these guides:

the title says it all really but i do not know why or how to fix this any help would be great
After you get s-off you can reboot and use visionary to do a temp root which will stick now since you have s-off. If you are getting errors from visionary search for r13 version which bypasses already rooted warning.

Any plans for a One-Click Root app using the gfree method? I know there VISIONary, but I've heard some bad things about it.

Depends if you want S-OFF or not. Gfree gives you full radio S-OFF, which is much safer than if you only have the "fake" S-OFF from the eng hboot.
Also, gfree gives you SuperCID and SIM unlock too.

hi, i just bought a desire z and permrooted with visionary r12. how do i get eng s-off so i can flash radios? because the guides i saw here said i should first get temp root then push the hboot.img then permroot. my prob is i am already perm rooted but not yet eng s-off
Visionary is not recommended for permanent root because it doesn't work reliably for all phones.
I would follow the procedure listed in the wiki, it uses gfree and will give you true S-OFF.

There are guides all over the Dev forum, like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097977
I have Visionary r10 and I just temp-root my G2 for tethering purposes. Wondering if the OTA will interfere with this temp-root method...
Visionary will not work on the G2 gingerbread OTA
Visionary = devil.

Is there any other way to temp root?

Seriously if you're gonna try to get a temp root on gingerbread, then spend the extra five minutes and make it permanent. There is no app for getting temp root on gingerbread (that I know of anyway) so you'll have to adb to a temp shell root, which would put you 90% of the way done to a perm root. If you're worrying that you might have to send it in or return it after rooting, supercid, or s-off; don't. To return it to stock you simply run the full ruu which would reflash your hboot to s-on put the correct radio and rom on. It took me longer to locate the ruu than it did to return my previous g2 to stock.

yes you have to downgrade... i used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
...for perm root i would suggest to use the wiki guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...sion#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
thanks, no one click root? It looks so complicated...
There is also a one click root... But i dont recommend it, because it has a high potential to brick your phone

Thanks! I rooted it yesterday, took me 5 hours to downgrade and root, but was all worth it. Wasnt very hard, the steps were easy to follow. (I have some experience with adb)
