Hi all,
I'm a noob in flashing phones and I have a question (of course).
I want to flash my DHD with the latest Android Revolution HD 5.1.3 ROM and followed the procedure exactly. Now I am at the point where I choose "Choose Zip from SDcard" and I pointed to the zipfile. My problem: The instrucion ends here, but my phone does nothing but show me the menu. The menu jumps back to main menu, now I can choose what I want but I only get to see the main menu.
I'm afraid to restart the phone and brick it forever.
Can anyone please help me?
Kind regard,
Michael

When you point the ARH5.1.3 File, you should see a list with all "no" and somewhere at the bottom you'll see "Yes, flash with (filename)".
You need to confirm you want to flash it, that's it
Hi ****head (no offence ;-) )
Thank you for your fast response. I forgot to mention that I confirmed with the YES you mentioned. But then the phone returned to the main menu and that's it. Whatever I choose from the menu nothing happens...
Grtz,
Michael
Ad long as there were no errors displayed during the installation, then you're good to select restart. Just be aware that first boot will take a while.
Hi,
I did not see it install at all. I expected to see a lot of text pass on the screen, but no, it instantly jumped back to the menu.
Are you using clockwork recovery? If so, you should see it unpacking and setting itself as your new rom before going back to menu. If this wasn't done, then you should try again. If it fails a second time then try downloading the rom again.
Yes, I am using clockwork recovery, and No, I did not see it unpack and flash it.
And I tried to do it again but that does not work. When I have to download the new ROM again that will not be a problem, but I have to switch off the phone in order to use the SD card in my pc, and that's where I am afraid to brick my DHD.
How long between flashing and the menu appearing would you say lapsed?
About 0.1 seconds, thus immediately. BUT.....I have found the solution to my problem in the meantime.... I somehow managed to DISABLE the back button during the process, and now I somehow have ENABELED it again and now the flash process is running! (Noob, as I said before)
PFEW!!! Very happy now....
Thank you all for your fast replies!
good news!

Stuck in a bootloop? Remove the battery. Go into the recovery, perform a full-wipe and flash again. If that not helps then boot youre phone again in the recovery and .....then:
Format youre sdcard from the recovery into swap=0, ext=512, remainder=fat32. You will loose all there is on youre sdcard.
Then after formatting. Turn off the phone. Take out the sdcard and copy the rom to youre sdcard. Put it back in the phone. Start youre phone in the recovery and flash the rom.
Thanks for the quick reply.!
The problem is i am unable to login to my phone. So how will i be able to flash the phone? only if i log in can i use rom manager isnt it? I am a total newbie at this. I would really appreciate it if you could explain this in detail to me!
thanks!
as I know power button with volume down together then wait then use volume down
to highlight recovery then power to enter.
It is explained in the first post of thus forum.
Hold down the back key while pushing the power button.
You will get a menu
Select Bootloader (by pressing power button)
Then wait for 10 seconds on the next menu
Scrol to Recovery with the volume-down button
Then you'll wait ten seconds and get a black screen with red traingle
now connect your phone to the pc with usb
start a adb recovery on the pc (for this you must have a recovery on the pc installed as well as Android SDK) in my case I just run the file recovery-windows.bat
Then you'll get a menu on your phone wit a lot of options, you can even select Ms-usb toggle after wich you can acces your sd card.
I am not a developer but think this is quite it. Download links are all in teh first thread of this forum.
Could you tell me if this would work?
I'll first wipe the phone, including the cache.
Then I'll copy paste the zip file of the Nextsense rom onto an sd card from my PC, insert into my phone, go to recovery mode, go to the sdcard-update.zip menu, and select the nextsense zip file.
Will that work?
Please help me out. and cheers to all u guys who took the trouble to reply so quickly. thanks..
I finally got it to work. All i did was I went into the recovery console, selected factory reset. and it got alright. Only problem is that i think my sd card got busted in the process. No idea what happened to it. It is not even getting detected by my laptop. I guess i ll have to get a new one. Thanks a ton to all the xda guys for helping me out. this forum is really kickass! I shall definitely return to xda to get help on further issues!
reformat your SD card , that should fix it !
Thanks! yeah, formatting the sdcard fixed it. Finally working properly now..
HTC desire stuck in bootscreen
I have the same problem with my desire. While loading a ROM with ROM manager the phone rebooted and started to install the ROM. But while it was installing it i error message came up and the phone froze. And after that it get stuck at the bootscreen. I've read the posts written earlier about this problem, but nothing works.
When I push volume down + power on the phone should think for a second and then show green texts about the SD card etc, but when this message shows it says it can't find anything on the SD card. And when I enter fastboot -> bootloader, it just throws me back to the home menu.. any ideas what to do?
you have to use recovery option in the bootloader
Unless you pushed the NewSense ROM via ADB you're most likely going to get a bootloop. After reading statements in the flashable versions of that ROM, that's what I've gathered: Bootloops.
Either wipe everything and install another ROM or install it the 'old school' way, using ADB.

Similar problem
Hey.
I tried to s-off my phone using alpharev and I had the "waiting for flashing to complete". I tried to check if the proces was running with some commands and it seem as if I managed to restart the proces. I finally gave up and removed the phone. Probably too early because now I can only get bootscreen and Clockwordmod recovery. I'm unable to get further than that and therefore I'm not able to start the s-off proces again.
Can anybody help me?

I have a Telstra (Australia) HTC Desire which is just a spare phone so I was playing around with some ROMS and successfully installed the Cyanogen7 Mod ROM and all was working fine - I then downloaded another rom on the device via the ROM Manager App (I cant recall its name now) .. Anyhow it downloaded OTA to the Desire but all I have now is some nice colours coming from outside of screen into the middle making an X - nothing but that
Even pulling the battery results with the above..
Before loading this rom I did make a note of the following version on my HTC
32.48.00.32u_5.11.05.14
I really just want to put the phone back to factory ROM..
Could someone kindly help me out with what to do..
I did find a link here with ROM's for the Desire but I get the error
Error(140) Bootloader can not update -get the correct update utility and try again??

Hi Frosty.
The pretty x pattern you describe is the boot screen originally from the nexus.
There was probably some problem with the new ROM you tried to flash, and when it boots, you only get that far.
If you had a CM ROM on your device previously, why not go back to that?
Hate to see a good man go back to stock after one little problem
You need to have the ROM on your SD card.
Boot your Desire by holding the volume down button and press and hold power.
After a few seconds you should get a bit of a menu on a white screen.
Using the power down button, highlight the 'recovery' option and press the power button. That should take you to your recovery menu. Select 'wipe data/factory reset' and press the optical joystick. Once that has completed, select (using the power up/down buttons) 'install zip from sd card'.
Find your CM ROM zip, move to highlight it (you guessed it, volume up/down buttons again) the press the optical joystick again. This will install the ROM you selected and you should be back in business.
Excellent - tks for your quick help
OK I have done as you say but the only .zip file on the SD card at the "Choose a zip to apply" is one called update.zip and using this results back at the "Nexus Screen"
So seems I dont have the rom on the SD card?
Whats my next course of action?
Tks Frosty
Edit: OK all is ok now after a reboot it came back on with the ROM I loaded (deFroST 6.0j) - tks for your help
This is all just to help me learn Android - my new SE Experia Arc is arriving this week

everything you need is here
Code:
http://www.youtube.com/user/mhrsolanki2020/videos
a thorough explanation .. too you wont need to ask question..
To be honest, I had some problems getting my phone rooted as well. This is how I finally got it rooted (HTC WildFire S A501e S-ON unlocked bootloader):
1. First, download the following file: http://www.mediafire.com/?b0bsb4ms4lo714b Don't worry, it's not a virus, it's simply an auto-installer for ClockWorkMod Recovery. You can find the guy who made it here.
2. Once you've downloaded the file, plug your phone into your computer in "Charge Only" mode and make sure you have USB Debugging on (Settings --> Applications --> Development --> USB Debugging). Then run the .exe and follow the steps.
3. Now I don't remember if it will automatically reboot the phone or not, but if it doesn't, reboot your phone. Heck, you could reboot it twice if you'd like .
4. Then download this attachment: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=672519&d=1312136127. It's the root script. Put it on the SD card. Remember where you placed the file! Of course the easiest place to place it would be in the main directory of the SD card...
5. Then turn off the phone and then boot into your bootloader. You can do this by holding the Volume Down button and then pressing the Power button. You'll see a white screen with coloured text on it. You should see "UNLOCKED" right at the top, meaning you have an unlocked bootloader. After a few seconds of being in the bootloader, it'll do a scan for some certain .zip's, don't be afraid, just wait a few seconds until you see the bootloader menu again, it shouldn't find any of the right .zip's anyway.
6. Navigate with the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to the menu entry "Recovery" and then press the Power button to confirm. It'll now boot into your recovery, which you installed earlier, where you'll find yourself in a menu.
7. In this menu, use the Volume Up and Volume Down buttons to navigate to "Install zip from SD card". Press the Power button to confirm.
8. Now go to "Choose zip from SD card". Again, press the Power button and search for root.zip, wherever you placed it. When you've found it, press the power button again. Press YES when asked for it.
9. Let it do its job. Once it's done, it'll tell you so. Press "Go back" on the menu until you find the "Power Off" option. Select it and your phone will turn off. Turn it back on and let it boot into Android.
10. Congratulations, your phone should now be rooted. Download an app requiring root privileges like TitaniumBackup to confirm this.
I hope this helped you. Let me know if you need any explanation on anything.
just wanted to say thanks to you both, i went with BvOBart's method and it worked perfectly thanks a lot!! i wouldnt mind a couple of suggestions for things i can do now that i have root

Do nything but back up your phone from cwm.. n then you might like to use some new roms that you can fine on index thread by tectas on general section.. if you wanna stay with sense the just read my signature n comment what ever you want in the Rom . I will cook that for you .. the Rom will be starting at 1st April

You're welcome I'd recommend you do a backup using CWM recovery first, then install Titanium Backup and do a backup with that and then you could go experiment with some ROMs, while still keeping all of your apps, settings, and data and in case you really **** up, you can always restore your CWM backup. You could also stay with the stock ROM and enjoy Superuser privileges for some awesome apps or hacks. I've heard it's possible to hack a WiFi network using an Android phone, root privileges and some software... But I don't remember how...
Hi!
I'm gonna go straight to my problem.
I have a HUGE problem with my HTC Desire HD.
A few days ago I was gonna update my phone from Androind Revolution HD 7.0.2 to ARHD 7.0.3.
In this process I accidently erased my whole SD card. I put the SD card into one of those
USB things where you put the small SD-card into and then into the computer. Anyway, I accidently marked
everything and deleted it, So now my phone won't even start. It just stops at the white screen and it says HTC.
You know the startup screen that comes up when you start the phone. And then nothing happens.
I am tired of custom ROMs etc etc, and I would like to revert my phone back to factory settings.
Only problem is I don't know which RUU to use etc etc. I have tried the Hold Volume DOWN button and power button
and then chose restore factory defaults.. But it doesn't work. Please help me what should I do?
I want to revert it to stock as it was when I got it from the store..
I live in Sweden, If that's any help.
Please help, I can't even use my phone anymore...
What you need to do is download a ROM and place it on your sd card. Then turn on your phone while holding the volume down button. You should enter the boot loader menu, choose recovery. From recovery you can flash the ROM you placed on your sd card.
I'm not sure but I think if you want to go to stock you can just use a stock ROM file instead of a custom one, but i recommend sticking with a good custom ROM.
Heres a list of stock RUUs
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19101263#post19101263
Thanks mate!
Only question now is, which one should I use?
I live in Sweden if that's any help as I wrote in my post.

What version should I chose then? What about gingerbread? ace? I have no idea how these things work, Right now I'm gonna try
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
Would that be the proper one maybe?
Also this didn't work, I put the .exe file which I downloaded, on the SD card, and I chose recovery but then a black scree
came up with the cellphone on it and a red triangle with a exclamation mark..
Should I maybe rename the file to something? Or pack it in a zip file and rename it to update.zip or something like that?
Thanks.

You don't need to use a RUU ROM. If you had ARHD installed before and like that, then use that, or anything else on the forums. You just need the install .zip on the SD card, the recovery files are already on your phone. Power the phone on while holding the volume down button to boot into bootloader, then choose recovery and install the .zip
That's the problem I chose recovery and as I wrote before, a black screen comes up with the phone on it and a triangle with a exclamation point..
Or are you saying I should zip the RUU ROM? And rename it to update.zip and then chose recovery or something like that?
I have read a little myself, and the red triangle thingy, I found a solution to that. Press Volume Up and Power Button, So I did and I chose Install update.zip from sd card.
Only problem now is that the installation aborts itself and it says "Signature verification failed" or something like that. What do I do now?
Please help, I don't know what to do

It seems like you have overwritten your recovery.
You can try installing clockworkmod by following this guide
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-a-custom-recovery-to-an-android-phone-device/
Try the fastboot or flash_image methods.
Once recovery is installed boot in recovery by holding vol down and press the power button, then choose recovery, and then install a ROM that you have downloaded and placed on your sd card
Edit: I highly recommend using a custom ROM and the method i wrote above but if you insist on installing a stock ROM you can use one of the RUUs from the link I posted earlier, the one you mentioned earlier should be fine. The RUU is an exe file that you run from your pc. Just connect your phone and run the RUU and follow the steps, you might have to boot into the bootloader on your phone though. It won't work if you just zip it.
Another method for installing a ROM without recovery is to get a ROM which is in the PD98IMG.zip format. If you have a ROM in this format just place the zip on the root of your sd card, boot into the boot loader and it should start installing automatically, but again you should try the recovery method first.
Thanks for this post man.
Only problem is I can't access the cellphones interface to turn USB debugging on or off, which was on when the cellphone stopped working.
And what do you mean by "Another method for installing a ROM without recovery is to get a ROM which is in the PD98IMG.zip format."
Should I just rename the ARHD 6.3.2 to PD98IMG.zip and then run it? Cause I did that and nothing happens as usual.
The only thing I can access in the phone is the boot menu..
And it seems to install clockwork mod you have to have access to the interface of the phone, meaning the phone must work sort of.. Mine doesn't It doesn't even start so that I can typ in the pin code etc etc... Nothing...
I even tried to boot the phone into boot menu and then chose Fastboot and plug it in via USB and then try to install the RUU .exe file.. Which did not work either..
I have no idea what to do..
I can however access androids own "boot menu" sort of, cause when I come into the boot menu I chose reovery, then after about 20-30 sec the black background comes up with the phone on it and a red triangle with a an exclamation mark and if I press volume up and power button it brings up a menu which I can chose "install update.zip from SD card" Only problem is, it doesn't seem to work no matter which ARHD.zip file i chose...
I am clueless on what to do. Any other suggestions?
Also the PC can't seem to find the phone when I plug it into the USB because as I said when I ran that RUU .exe file while it was plugged in, it told me it couldn't find the phone so..
help..
http://www.androidrevolution.nl/downloader/download.php?file=PD98IMG.zip
Use that PD98IMG.zip !
What you should end up with is a stock Froyo DHD which you can that root, custom recovery and so on !
Download the PD98IMG.zip from Aron Fridrik's post above, place it on the root of your sd card. Boot into the bootloader by pressing vol down and the power button when the phone is off, and the ROM will start installing automatically (I think).
Then follow this guide to root and install a later ROM.
Advanced Ace Hack Kit
Ok thanks a lot!
Will try this and get back to you.
But what's the difference on Froyo, ACE etc etc? I've never really understood that.
Thanks again! Will get back to you !
Froyo is Android 2.2, ace is the codename of Desire Hd and Wwe mean world wide edition

WOW! It's working now!
Thank you all so much for the help you've given me!
I did what you said, copied PD98IMG.zip to the SD card,
booted into bootloader, it started updating the zip file and when it was
done the phone was back to stock. I then used the Advanced Ace Hack Kit
and rooted the phone, once that was done I downloaded ARHD 7.0.3 and booted into clockworkmod and applied the update.zip which I renamed earlier on the SD card.
And now I am running ARHD 7.0.3 and it's working great! I'm going to save that PD98IMG.zip file for the future in case something goes wrong again!
Now there's just one small problem, When I started Youtube on the phone I got the "force close" message, so my first thought was to uninstall it and install it again and that worked. Now I get the same message (force close message = "The application Sound set (process com.htc.sdm) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.) when I press Personalize > Sound > Notification Sound. It doesn't do that if I chose Ringtone or Alarm or any other. Only the Notification sound..
Any ideas what this might be?
I had the same problem when I used ARHD 7.0.2 and I though it was something with the ARHD ROM and that it might had been fixed in 7.0.3 but no.
So any ideas, or should I just check the post about ARHD 7.0.3 and see the FAQ there?
Anyway, thank you all again for the help!
I really appreciate it!

Actually no I didn't. After the "root process" I just installed the update.zip through clockworkmod. Should I have done a full wipe and factory data reset before this?

you don't need to rename the from zip to update.zip to install a rom through recovery.
You should do a full wipe and reinstall ARHD, if the problem still persists try posting in the ARHD thread.
Don't forget to move the PD98IMG.zip from the root of your SD card or it will install every time you enter the bootloader.
Allright mate, Thanks a lot!
EDIT: I did what you said Lewelynn and now it works! Thanks a lot! Now it even looks different! =)
It's the small weather clock instead of the big one and a different look on the buttons etc etc.
How come it looks different now than before when I applied the ARHD 7.0.3? Is it because I did a data wipe/factory reset through 4ext?
Also when you do a data wipe/factory reset through 4ext, during that process it asks you if you want to install something about kernel or something else?
Can't really remember what it said.. But what did that mean? I chose No on the first question, and then Yes on the other question which said (recommended) so ofc I chose that.
Is this the reason it looks different now or ?
Thanks again!
You cannot imagine how greatful I am for your help!
Thank you everyone!

I'm not sure why it looks different, maybe stuff was corrupted before since you didn't wipe, or maybe you unknowingly updated from sense 3.0 to sense 3.5 when you updated ARHD.
I don't use the 4ext wipe feature so don't know what those options are. If you are concerned, an alternate way of wiping is to use the superwipe.zip which you will find on the first post in the ARHD thread. Just install the zip before you install a new rom if you want to wipe.
No problem man we all started somewhere.
Alright mate,
Well then that's it, now everything is fixed. Moderator can remove the post or whatever Or he could let it be if someone else has the same problem.
Again! Thanks for everyone's help in this post! =)
Ok guys I would be eternally greatful if someone could please help me on this issue asap...I was in the process of rooting/unlocking/installing CWM on my brother's A100, and I ran into a somewhat serious issue.
Everything was going great - I rooted it, unlocked the bootloader, and started to install CWM. Unfortunately, I totally screwed up and didn't rename /etc/install-recovery.sh. I got all the way through flashing the recovery.img before I realized...I realize this is completely my fault.
After trying to reboot into CWM using the volume down key on power up, it simply shows a picture of an android with a spinning blue orb in it's stomach. After this finishes, it briefly say "Start Updating EBT" then "Finished Updating EBT". It then reboots once more back to the standard android OS. Additionally, during bootup it no longer displays the message about the bootloader being in "UNLOCKMODE".
Is there anything I can do from here? I realize I've totally screwed up, but if anyone could provide step-by-step ideas of what I need to do I would be very thankful. i.e. is the bootloader re-locked, and if so do I need to re-unlock it? and how could I successfully get CWM working? Thanks in advance!

First off, slow down, take a breath, relax, and realize the world didn't just end, everything is fine, it just went awry at one point where alot of people miss the step of install-recovery.sh.
Start from the beginning, check if you have root.
If you have root, then use any root file manager (I use ES File Manager, in settings check "Up to root" then further down, check "Root Explorer", grant it permission, then check "Mount system Writable") and navigate to /system/etc.
Rename or move or delete install-recovery.sh. I would just rename it install-recovery.bak.
Go ahead and reboot, and verify the green acer screen does NOT say (unlocked mode) in the upper right corner. If it does in fact NOT say that (it should still be unlocked) then proceed with the previous steps starting at unlocking the bootloader.
Once the bootloader is again unlocked (remember to be quick on those volume keys) proceed with flashing CWM or TWRP or whatever you choose.
Now when you reboot into android, your custom recovery will remain intact.
Now that you have a custom recovery, boot into it, and first thing, mount either internal or external SD (I use external) and make a full backup. Do it NOW. After that is done, it takes a few minutes, you can either keep the stock ROM, flash a new one, whatever, it's up to you, but you will now have a backup to fall on if anything goes wrong.
In the guide in my sig is a ton of information, I would suggest browsing it to become familiar with some things about these devices.

Thank you very, very much! I went through everything again, and finally got CWM up and a backup taken. I was thinking those steps were what I needed to do, but didn't want to proceed without a confirmation. Thanks again for your great advice!

No problem, just be sure to take your time before diving into anything, and make sure everything has been read twice before starting.

I know lol, that why I felt like such a doofus admitting I did it, because I literally read that part about renaming twice before I even started...I guess it was one of those in-one-ear-out-the-other-cause-I'm-tired type of deals
Anyways thanks again, I'll definitely have to do this when I'm a little more awake next time...wait, here's to hoping there's not a next time  Thanks!
I used twrp because the instructions sounded so much easier, even though I've worked with cwm for over a year.
