HTC desire - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I need help rooting my branded HTC desire running 2.2
I'm not a fan of the gold card method and I have been trying unrEVOked to no avail.
I have uninstalled HTC sense and any program that may interfere with my HTC when in boot loader.
My phone will lose communication with my computer when trying to ready hboot.
I'm at my wits end. HELP
Thanks

I think you should put this on the HTC Desire forum i have one before and unrevoked works for me.
Read threads in QA or stickies in Development forum.

It's still a driver issue..
One sure shot method is to do this in linux. Or install a second copy of windows as multi boot. In it install htc software, uninstall htc sync leaving the drivers behind. Install unrevoked driver in hboot mode, then retry unrevoked

Sorry for the long delay in a reply. Yes it was a driver issue but I have rooted my phone and now I'm running cyanogen mod 7
Thanks for your help

Hboot .83 + unrevoked3 = pita

Ok guys so.I'm trying to root my desire with .83 hboot using unrevoked because from what I read it works but it doesn't.
I get either " waiting for reboot " or "connect your phone..." am I right to assume I don't need a goldcard? My.networks orange uk
Is there any other method of.rooting .83? Except for unrevoked?

yeah, most guides state if you get stuck there to make sure the hboot/recovery drivers are installed.
Rooting my .83 was a breeze, i coulda done it on my head.
Do some reading on how to root an orange phone. HBoot 0.83 is easy as pie, Orange=PITA. At least that's what I have picked up from these forums, and as far as I know you need a goldcard.
Always make sure you read more than you need to before starting to change such an expensive piece of kit. Seems you missed some steps.
Well. I've made sure the drivers are installed. I even tried it with a Linux live cd.
My.question was is there any alternatives? All the tuts point to revoked.
No need to be a prick about it. All I asked was for help

unrevoked works best on a mac or linux machine, windows can have driver issues.
You have USB debugging turned on right? And drivers for HTC sync and for android devices you need to browse to when you connect it? Are you running as an admin?
Turns out I was wrong, people have rooted Orange handsets without a goldcard.
The reason your getting responses that sound like pricks is because all the info is there, people don't want to find it for you.
Second time I've posted this today (no I'm not advertising) search for Root My Droid they have a good step by step guide for rooting the Desire. Unrevoked definately works on Orange as I did it yesterday following the guide they have.
Make sure you have the options to install applications from unknown sources, debugging on and the default connection type as disk drive.
Thanks for the help. Ill try and give it another try. I've rooted 3 desires fine but this is my first .83. That's all. I did enough searches for .83 roots on google. Most of the other root methods were talking about .75 and .80.
Ill uninstall everything and try again with unrevoked.

I had hboot 0.83 and rooted it from my Ubuntu laptop with unrevoked without any problems. Easiest root I've ever done.
i dont have a hboot 83 but i did help a friend do his telus hb83
the guides i read up on stated getting sdk for the drivers and all sorts of other stuff
i didnt.
what i told my friend in short .missing from the guides.
install htc sync then remove the sync leave the drivers part.
download unrevoked and extract the refresh rar/zip.find and run the hboot html found inside and follow the instructions to install the hboot drivers.
Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to have another go at using Linux unrevoked since I think my windows 7 is probably playing up.
Again. Thanks for the help.

Please help, unroot

Hello,
Please help me. I want to unroot my Desire. I rooted it with unlockr method. And I use now AuraxTsense. My Desire got 0.93 bootloader. Please help, how to unroot it? I try with exe files that are in Android development, but I always get 140 error, that it's bad ROM.
Is your desire unbranded? If so download HTC sync connect the desire and run the correct RUU

Why have you posted in 2 sections? Stick to one thread (I've replied to the other one in Q&A)

Root for Desire 2.2

Hello everyone,
is the first time post here, so hopefully I can do no wrong place.
I bought a few days ago a HTC Desire and I can not drive with no root, it lists my problems.
- Unrevoked 3.21 hangs at first boot on the menu which has the REBOOT
- If I try with r5-desire-alt-root I receive errors
How can I do?
Thank you for everything
Download HTC sync this will install the drivers needed for your desire then run unrevoked.

USCC's upgrade to 2.2 includes Hboot 1.06 which hasn't been cracked or whatever yet. I'm waiting very impatiently too....
Yes usb debugging is on and I uninstalled HTC sync. But oh I didn't know this latest version of hboot hadn't been unlocked yet. Sorry for the dumb question

You can root and s-off htc desire cdma running hboot 1.06 froyo 2.2, here is how

All you have to do is download the revolutionary package and unrevoked 3. You guys should all know about the usb debugging and stuff so you have to s-off before you root it's weird. Also you must install htc sync on your computer for it to work. Or atleast i did. So with htc sync installed and phone set to usb debugging and charge only run alpharev with the betta key it gives you let it do it's process could take a few minutes after it says complete and closes run unrevoked 3. It might scare you and apear to have bricked your phone I know it scared the hell outta me but just pull the battery out and it will reboot normal. Then your good to go with a fully rooted s-off htc desire running hboot 1.06 i currently installed cyanogen 7.0.3 but i'm going back because i'm having problems with google apps so i'm going to re do it. Thanks guys. Took me forever to figure this out for some reason. lol
just found out that the screen that you might think looks like you bricked is actually changing the radio so don't panic and wait for them to say done or finshed. Alpharev will close it's self.
You don't need unrevoked at all

not a genius so forgive my ignorance, i'm just happy it's done. Having a memory problem though. For some reason the sd card went from 2gb to 312mb. Any reason or help you can give me to get my memory back? I can't install any apps it says not enough space.
