The other day my DHD decided to start lagging whenever I tried to open the message app. With lagging I mean seconds of complete freeze, making it impossible to write, read, whatever. Reboot gives a temp-fix, but I'm experiencing the problem more and more often. Anybody got a clue how to solve this?
Backup and delete your old messages...
I was hoping that since iPhone can cope with thousands of messages, at least DHD could do a couple of hundred. Is that the only way to solve the problem?
I really couldn't think of another way, TBH, I know that always worked for me, and I never had the ambition to find another one, simply not worth the effort...
2 options: delete old messages or try a rom which is faster overall so the lag is not that big.
The fastest rom ive experienced so far is ultimatedroid from mdj

On the newest modaco .. i find the htc_ime is really laggy when texting it makes it so difficult to text sometimes ! Does anyone know any fixes for this ? Even when ive used taskiller to kill all the other tasks it is still so slow. Please don't advise better keyboard i didn't find it helpful.
wipe & reflash
I tried that .. nothing .. epic fail... do you get decent texting speed?
i had this prob with many of the 2.1 roms, a pause between typing would be seen as a long press. making texting a real ordeal
i went back to modaco 3.1
all is good now
Yes, many 2.1 ROMs have this lag, but none of the MoDaCo ROMs .. they work perfectly!
I know it sounds stupid, but are you sure you'r using MoDaCo 3.1? I have never had any lag on the ROM at all. Even the keypad/keyboard. Where as that was laggy on stock 1.5 Sense and all of the 2.1 roms. But since i flashed MoDaCo all is good.
I am possitive i am using 3.1 ... i have always had this problem its been so laggy texting like ... if i write three words it will only be half way through the first word when im finished and il be waiting and generally when you rush it gets confused and starts changing your words to weird longer ones.
thanks for the thoughts thought but keep them coming! Come on
Im using modaco 3.1 and the only time mine ever gets laggy which is very rare is when my wifi is on. Otherwise texting runs like a dream or hero excuse the pun. I have read by turning the "vibrate when typing" off in the settings helps supposedly to speed it up a little. Otherwise i recommend like others before me, to do a full wipe and reflash also backup any important files you need to keep i.e nandroid etc that u have on the sd card and format it. Also wipe ext 2 or ext 3 if you are using it. As I had to after installing 3.1 as i found it a bit laggy in areas. Good luck.
completely removed ext partition remade it installed rom and still same lag... havent even put old stuff back on simcard..
Try this, install and use Advanced Task Killer there's a free version in android Market. Maybe you have an app that is hogging all your cpu just kill that app and try your texting. Although you shouldn't have since u wiped. Unless u installed any apps after that. If no joy hopefully one of the experienced devs could help you. Hope you get it sorted.
Tried taskiller aswell as that one damn..
You're not alone! I too suffer from obscene lag when texting at times (running MCR 3.1). I can type 6 or 7 words before the first is displayed and then watch them slowly appear. I also suffer from typing a word and it'll either be in all caps or the first few letters will be caps and the rest lower case. Oh and it can take forever and a day to actually open a message or flick between them with the widget.
I have two solutions when this happens to me, first off is reboot the phone, that quite often solves the issue, at least for a while. The second solution is to delete some messages. It seems the more messages you have, the slower the messaging app reacts. I deleted just over 1400 messages this morning and seem to have gone back up to full speed.
One other thing to note, if you are receiving / have just received or are sending / just sent a message, the app will be quite slow, or at least it is for me.
Florida.
tried deleting all the messages etc i think its the HTC_IME itself and not the messages... anyone know anything about that?
i encountered typing to be a little laggy, found that the phone is low on resources. something is running at background causing the usage to be 99% but i can't find any apps doing that (btw, im using smart monitor). typing also lag in ak notepad
when i go online, everything seems back normal. it seems that the phone is running some update or trying to... after going online, the lag is gone
the lag will happen again after every phone reboot
Any developers know anything ?
Hey all,
I got my desire this morning, and i don't know if its just me, but everything takes a long time to load up e.g. time, weather, calendar, text messages, email apps.
Is anyone else having this problem, or should i return the phone.
Thanks for your help

I think it depends on your perception of lag. I feel my device slows down momentarily sometimes when navigating through long lists and opening some applications as you mention. I thought at first it might be a problem with my device but have since had it replaced (because of dust under the screen not this) but I still notice it the same. I think I just expect everything to be instantaneous given the 1Ghz processor inside but to be honest it doesn't bother me and I imagine most people don't notice any slow down at all.
As an example, just now selecting the option to add the HTC Clock widget to the home screen there is a noticeable pause before it comes up with the options to choose widget style.
I would be interested in how quickly the Photos application loads for people though, it takes a good few seconds for me (around 4 seconds sometimes) to load the summary view with 'camera shots', 'all photos' links etc. I've replaced the memory card to an 8gb Sandisk Ultra as I thought the read speed of the original could be the cause, but it still takes the same time.
None of these things effect the usability of the device in practical terms though.
Market / Weather are possibly lagging due to Network speed rather than phone speed. They have to DL data to the phone.
Others like Email may be refreshing when opened causing lag.
My messages app (Handcent currently) only lags when I have many hundreds of messages saved. But it is noticably better than chomp at handling the same volume of messages.
I find the phone lags when it is installing stuff. And by lag I mean delayed responses to my input.
I also find that certain apps can load up and then cause the phone to stutter. I haven't found out exactly which apps but it's always solved with a soft reset - just turning the phone off and on. Either that or it's forcing the phone to store too much on the SD card.
Maybe I'll find the offending app when I have more time.
Hey guys, my txt and mms stuff constantly freezes and gets stuck, I already applied the patch from HTC that was supposed to fix it and it made it worse it seems like, does anyone else have this issue? It doesn't seem to matter if I have alot of conversations saved or if Ive deleted them all, it still randomly crashes and gets stuck and it eventually clears but its getting to the point where I really hate this phone. When I first got it it was great this never happened, and I haven installed any apps or anything and its getting progressively worse, not sure what the issue is but I almost cant even txt anymore without a 50/50 chance of it crashing and stalling.
seriously no one else has this problem? I look at task manager and: Messaging (TXT & MMS) is always stuck.
I think all of us have that problem. I am being serious. The reason why I say that is because no matter the ROM (stock, custom, my own) I still have wonky issues with MMS, SMS and freezing, or Blank Screen of Death.
Sorry to not have a solution for you...
ah, I thought maybe I was the only one or something, hmm, that sucks, almost makes me want to just run android all the time, it just seems to suck the battery away and some stuff doesnt work great, unless Im not using the best android setup.
I wonder if its part of TouchFlo3D, Im gonna turn on windows default stuff and see what happens that way, Ill try that for a day and see if I Constantly crash/get stuck and have ot wait for minutes randomly on every sms
Ive had the same problem! Ive resorted to Valkryie's ROMs, they have lots of features and are REALLY fast! I love energy ROMs,and i use them like 60% of the time, but when Im going out for a while or like when im going on Vacation, im gonna use Valkryie, but anyway, havent had a problem yet with the sms freezing.
I've had many different problems with my Droid Incredible 2 lately. Im not sure if these are normal but my phone is far from fast anymore. its actually extremely laggy on the homescreen, switching from panel to panel takes a few seconds. Opening any app takes a good minute to finally launch, and what is very annoying is my messaging app. For example, i could have 3 new texts. I'll open my messaging app, and after about 30 seconds it will finally open, and i'll see my new texts appear and refresh after another short amount of time, then opening an individual conversation takes another small amount of time, then when i go back to my list of conversations, it still says theres a missed text from that person, and it could take a couple hours for it to refresh itself and display a sent text, and it been like this for a couple weeks now. About a week ago, i did a full factory reset, and i have absolutely zero widgets on my phone, uninstalled every application except for Facebook, i havent touched a single setting. What should i do?

Install that. I am sending you a PM with my email and you can send me your log. I will take a look at it and see if I can find what is causing your issues. I had a similar problem a while back. Don't worry, no personal information is collected in the log.
I forgot.. after you get that installed, go ahead and clear the log. restart your phone, go through the things that are causing you problems, and send it. As far as I can tell, this isnt a widespread problem.
I have serious lagging when I try to watch videos I recorded with the phone, after watching one vid its painfully slow to respond.
I haven't noticed any substantial unresponsiveness. I use LauncherPro for my homescreen, though, so I can't speak for Sense home experience. Everything seems pretty stable for me, so it's definitely not widespread.
I mean i can deal with the sense 2.1 being a little slow, but how slow and unresponsive the messaging app is really bugs me, and i dont get why lately, especially after a factory reset

Yeah, the messaging app is really becoming a PITA for me. I've changed all the storage settings and even after I delete all my messages, it's still laggy.

Try out gosms, I find it to be far superior to the stock messaging app
The only problem I have is that my gps isn't as accurate as it was on my Eris.

I've got one, and this is the only problem I've had with the phone . When I have a friend request from Facebook and I accept them it shows up in the fb app that I have but not friend stream . Any thoughts? I have 2 friends in fb that don't show updates in friend stream and I like the app just hate that u can't write on peoples walls so that's why I have both on there .lol

Hey,
I know theres a lot of threads about htc/android phones freezing and crashing/rebooting but none of them really described my exact situation. And since it's getting worse and worse and driving me crazy, I wanted to ask for help.
As the title suggests my HTC Desire keeps freezing and crashing (sometimes rebooting, too).
It all probably started shortly before I first rooted my device, following the great sticky noob-tutorial. First problem was, that sometimes my phone wouldn't wake up from standby, especially after I a missed call (rooting didn't solve that problem).
Some time later, now rooted and with a custom ROM, I noticed, that sometimes when I wanted to use my phone, it showed the PIN-screen, which obviously means, that it rebooted quietly (don't remember if this also happened before rooting).
A few days ago it started to completely freeze, when connected to the charger. Orange LED showed it was charging but no reaction to pressing any buttons or disconnect the charger.
Since yesterday it also crashes randomly in standby mode (can't wake it up) or e.g. when watching a video (just freezes the device, no reaction to button-pressing, screen stays on etc.)
now I am running the stability test with the charger connected - no problem for 1h10min til now...
The ROM I am running is the latest cool sense (problems also existed before the latest update)
No modification of CPU (I used to use SetCPU but since I thought that would cause the problems I uninstalled it -> no improvement)
What could be the problem here? (And how can I solve it, of course?)
Anything else than a full wipe, which could help? (that would be my last option...)
Thanks for helping...
it just happened again -.-
I was just backing up some apps with titanium backup and in the middle of scrolling through the list - freeze!
dunno what to do...
is this hardware or software related?...
Hello.
It would be pretty easy if it is a soft problem. This kind of problems are usually dealt with by installing another ROM and see if the problems persist. So if you want to try and eliminate the last option, go and install another ROM, it can be a Stock ROOT-ed ROM, Sense or anything.
The fact that you mentioned your phone was crashing even before rooting got me thinking it is a motherboard fault. I've read some threads in which people had the same problems, and in the end they all got to the same conclusion: motherboard fault. The only resolve with this is to get it to guarantee.
So first of all try installing another ROM and if the problems persist, you will need to install a RUU and see if this one eliminates your problem. If not then I don't know if there is anything else you could do, besides getting it to the guarantee.
I wait for your progress.
Hi,
thanks for your reply.
The funny thing is, that I didnt have those problems with this ROM in the beginning. Everything was fine, that's why I was using it the whole time. But as I said before, it became worse by and by... thats why I thought it could be an app or so...
that would be a recent list of apps: appbrain.com/user/marioiram/
Cannot even sync my newest list, because after freezing while watching a video, it froze again shortly after reboot... still getting worse
Try reinstalling the ROM or installing another ROM.
hm.. just when I was thinking about following your advice, my desire stopped freezing xD
no crash, no freeze oder reboot since my last post.
I even tried to force it by watching videos, playing games, connect to the charger etc.
everything is fine... strange.
Will see for how long
Well this is good news. Just keep in mind what you can do if the rebooting comes back. Hope it doesn't
Well, it did xD
Now even shortly after reboot. I'll try ROM changes as soon as I get home but there's something I noticed: it often freezes when it's supposed to display a whatsapp notification and sometimes it seems there's a problem with the sdcard (just bought a new one because my old one went nuts). Sometimes the notification 'sdcard was removed unexpectedly' (translated from German) is appearing, but after waiting a few minutes everything is fine again...
Well I'll try some stuff when there's time...
