You can figure out how to root an EVO... but can't figure this out... interesting...

thanks to the one helpful person..to the others i hope ur evo bricks lol

You also could have searched, as this question has been answered at least 20 times in the last few months.
But seriously, its not that hard. Copy everything from the old card to your pc, stick the new card in the phone, and copy everything back. walla...

kinda piggie back on his question....Is 32gb the highest it supports?

yes 32gb is the highest.

FYI,
I have a Patriot 32GB Class 10 card but have issues with it. It will occasionally suffer some corruption and go into read-only mode. Luckily I have not lost any data yet as far as I can tell. Supposedly there is an issue with Android and Class 10. Wonder if others are experiencing this and if there is any "cure".

Could be a bad card. There are a lot of 32gb fakes out there.

I've had my patriot class 10 for a month and had zero issues with it. It's not a class 10 thing, it's a bad card thing. I read a lot of bad card reviews on newegg when I bought mine and only bought it after reading that buyers that had a bad card had no problem with returns or exchanges.

I'm receiving a Patriot 32gb sdcard today and moving to the Synergy 3.0 rom. The only files and folders I want to move over are the files needed for my phone and my nandroid backup. Is there a list of essential files and folders? I'm not worried about saving my apps, just want a base sdcard.

If you're switching to a new ROM you probably aren't concerned with saving app settings and such. If that is the case then you don't need to do anything other than copying over your nandroid.
I'd suggest formatting the new card from recovery to include swap and ext in case you ever want to use those partitions then mount the card from recovery, copy the files over and flash your new ROM.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk

I have a Patriot and a PNY branded 16G C10 and they have performed well. Transcend doesn't like the ext-ext3 from reviews and same with the one I had.
Your questions seem to have been answered already, but on a side note: If you can remember to treat the phone as any other external storage device you want to keep error free (or at least help prevent errors). Try to disable/disconnect from the computer first, before switching modes on your phone. Otherwise its just like taking the usb cable out of the computer while the external device still has communication. I know...it will usually be OK...usually..just sayin...have fun with the new card.
Also recommend doing the partition so that its there from the start, you don't want to have to copy all your stuff down the road with that size of a card!

Patriot 32gb Class 10 Speed problem

Im having a litle trouble.I just bought a Patriot 32gb card and its copying files from my computer to my card very slow on my EVO. My 8gb card that was in it before was copying faster.Ive read the threads about setting the default to 128 and its still copying slow. I used the SD Speed Boost app from the market.Any idea whats wrong.
Try formatting it from the phone itself. From recovery if you're rooted. Otherwise return it, get a name brand like SanDisk or Kingston.
Mine was as well. The ROM should read the speed correctly though. The SD speed test from the market showed me 10 read and 14 write. Wrong section to post in though
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Try Multi Mount SD-Card in the market, it will fix that issue.
I have the same exact card you have, & had the SAME problem on CM7-EX Destroyer v1 & Savaged-Zen 0.2.1-cfs. Their site, Savaged-Zen's, had this fix posted. It's a kernel problem, not a sd card problem.
& Patriot IS a name brand.

You should probably develop something to fix it since this is the Dev section after all...

How ? I believe 16GB was supposed to be max on EVO ?
No it's 32...16gb for 30 dollars or 108 for a 32...lol I don't get some of you, smh
We need a real memory checker. Does anybody know if there is one availible? If not how would we go about compiling one?.

Rogue recovery

I just made backup with rogue recovery and I can't find it anywhere. This happened one more time but I wasn't paying attention thinking that maybe I was wrong. Whole process finished without errors but I can't locate backup anywhere.
Check yoir sd card

I did, it's not there. I have 3 old backups (one stock and other when I installed Calkulin rom, and last with loaded app), but no current one.
Could be a bad SD card. Had that before with an old card. Had spotty performance, sometimes would just make files vanish
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Hope not. This is a 5 day old 32GB sd card. Never happened that files disappears just with this recovery. I just flashed new rom and I will try again.
Edit: It worked, I do see backup via recovery but I have no idea where is located.
and you checked in the clockworkmod folder on the sd card or internal storage? there should be a folder called backup and that's where they are located. If it's rogue recovery, then it's on the SD card. CWM recovery puts them on the internal storage

dafluke24, it took me a little playing around and pulling my hair to figure that out myself. Some devs like different recoveries. When flashing you may end up with a new recovery. Should be stickied for noobs (may already be). Thanks for an old school informative XDA answer.

Glad I could help out. The way I learned it by going through all the folders lol Eventually it just made sense to me since CWM = clockworkmod. Go figure
Rogue recovery does have an option to put the backups on the internal storage as well, so that's a good thing if your SD card is full of mp3s and movies like mine is.

You were right, sd card is going bad. I am mad because I use this card for 5 days only. Got it from ebay (in original packaging) and give'd good review to seller already.
Just run test and looks like bad or fake card. Also instead of 32 GB it shows 28GB ?
I did several testing and results are always same. If there is any data on card test fails, and if card is formated test returns with no error (see attachments)
yea I've been burn by fake or bad cards on ebay many times myself. It will show full capacity, but you can only copy like a few gigs to it. everything else written on the card will show up but be un-usable. For this reason I stopped buying memory cards on ebay and only from legit websites like newegg or buy.com.
Way too much fake stuff out on ebay and you're not sure if you're getting the real thing or some crap.
Sucks to hear that about your situation
Thank you, I look positive way on it (didn't loose much of data on it). Anyway I will get new one from other source. What is top price I should pay for 32 GB, and which brand I should chose?
I've seen 32gig card go for under $30 so no more than that. I've had success on many different brands: sandisk, kingston, adata, patriot, transcend, etc. I would avoid the no name cards as you're not sure what they are.
Just a quick search pulled up this Patriot sd card for $29 free shipping.

If you're a stickler on class speeds, this is a class 10 card. I personally don't care about write speeds as long as it works and doesn't give me problems.
I don't care about speed, but had bad experience with Kingston (lost very important 200-300 pictures after card died with no eason). Thanks for your help!

Questions about keeping my EVO alive for a while longer

As time goes on, my two year old EVO is just slow. So my question is sort of two parts. 1) is there any way to use a new sdxc card? I'd assume they'd work, though none are below 64 gigs. Is there any way to actually have the phone recognize the card even if all 64 gigs aren't? I've looked around, and I couldn't find any real answers to this. 2) with an sdxc card with ridiculous read write speeds, is it possible to go crazy and partition the card with 2 gigs free and use this in swap? If so I don't think I'd ever need to upgrade, but that seems too good to be true and I'm assuming it is. This is just my dumb thinking outloud, so any input would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure what an SDXC card is,i would guess a type of SD card, but it would be better to delete all of the crap on the SD card thats been present the whole time, which is whats slowing down your phone and probably the stuff on the internal as well, since you have 64GB,you can us 10 GB on the EXT and at least 2 GB on the swap.
I make a habit of formatting and repartitioning at least once a month.

[Q] Sandisk 64 GB MicroSD

Hey guys,
I read the thread by ThaGreatest regarding this MicroSD and it was veery useful, however, I don't want to bump a 4 month-old thread.
This is the MicroSD card that I am planning on ordering: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter-SDSDQU-064G-AFFP-A/dp/B009QZH6JS
I used the search function and found a lot of people complaining about it, although, if I remember correctly, someone mentioned in some thread that simply formatting (from exFAT to FAT32) should do the trick. If this MicroSD isn't reliable, does anyone have any suggestions to good MicroSD cards that will work?
I am currently running the CM10.1 rom. I would appreciate it greatly if anyone who has used this MicroSD card and a custom rom could attest to how well it functions.
Thanks!
Anyone have any suggestions?
I recall a post at least a year back when these cards came out.
The simple solution is to format it with the device and it seems to work fine.
You can try digging it up and PMing the OP to see if it still works, if OP still has the device.
I am included to think it will work fine though.
It works pretty damn good. I have the 64gb card and now I can have multiple seasons of any show I have, tons of music and of course still have plenty of space for my apps. The read is descent at 12mb/s. I have the 10 class. U need a program like easeus partition manager to format the card into fat32. Hope this was helpful

[Q] STarting to HATE my GN4 :(

I had the Galaxy Note 4 since released and I really should have stayed on Jellybean. I hate not having full access to my ExtSDCard and while I have tried Foldermount and custom roms (using Alliance Rom Currently)I still can't figure this out. 30gigs or 64gigs isn't enough storage for me. I leaned toward the Android devices because of the external option. Honestly I hate the phone now. Had I known this was going to be the route Android was going to to take, I would have made other choices. I have searched for fixes all over the internet, youtube, XDA and I can not find anything that helped. If there is anyone with a SPRINT NOTE 4, running Lollipop that has been successful in getting the external sd cards to work, Please let me know. I am ready to make this phone a very expensive door stop!
I know some of you will bash me for not searching I HAVE.

Ummm yeah, where to start. First it came with KitKat. this phone now is way more amazing on alliance with emotion kernel than when I got this phone on launch day. I've had zero and I mean zero problems on a custom lollipop rom moving anything around from a 128gig sd, especially alliance which is amazing. I can't possibly leave alliance ever and go back to the horrible colors of lollipop. My phone craps all over every other phone unless I were to run into someone that has a rooted/romed/kernel note 4 that has done as much to it as I have.... Still probably craps on it, LOL. KitKat had the problems with access to sd but that was fixable with root, but u didn't have to have a custom rom if u didn't want to. Lollipop corrected the sd limits that KitKat screwed up. I use folder mount but probably not what ur looking for. I use it because I have a lot of big games and the internal sd goes pretty quick so folder mount will move and link the big data folder for that game to the external sd.
Either u have some kind of hardware issue like maybe a fake sd card or something is wrong with the phones hardware and need an exchange, or should just go back to an iPhone.
SD Card not working on lollipop.... it could be damaged!

Thanks for the reply, while I also had the note 3, I am probably getting the OS confused. So yes, you are correct. The 4 did come with KitKat. Jellybean was the last OS I did not have SD card R/W issues with. I too love the Alliance rom, its fabulous but I cannot understand why my SD card refuses to work. I reformatted it and tried it with several other Roms just as well. I do know its a SanDisk 64gig which appears to be original. I will purchase a new one and give that a try. Although, I would like to think I wouldn't purchase a fake SD card, at least not intentionally.
Follow-Up: (4:46am): SO I tried an old SD Card SanDisk 16gigs and Whella!!! I use FX File Explorer and enabled Write Access and was able to create a new folder without issues. It is not an ULTRA XC card like the 64gb card but at least I know that it isn't the phones hardware and I also checked to ensure the 64gb was an original and from the videos I have reviewed it appears to be. It could very well be damaged. I placed the non-working sd card in my pc and I received a message "There is a problem with this drive fix & repair to prevent data loss" or something to that effect. I tried to run the repair program and it didn't work. I have chalked this experience up to "a damaged SD card"; however, I was able to copy everything on it to a folder on my PC and will be transferring it to a new card. I am interested in 128gb as well, if you can offer the brand you are having so much success with, I'd appreciate it.
