First off, I'd just like to mention that I did not write this OP. I saw it over in the: xda Android Development and Hacking > Android Apps and Games section originally posted by K Dotty. All credit for this hack/mod shoud go to (her?).
I just wanted to post it up here so that everyone in our wonderful SGSII section can take advantage of this awesome promotion before it's over. I did this myself and can confirm that it's: quick, painless and works flawlessly. Reboots and all; this whole process took me about 5-6 minutes. Hope this works for all of you, and if you need help or have a question about this please do just ask (but search the thread first).
*Random Side Note*
It does mention a backup in K Dotty's post, but I just thought I'd take one more quick opportunity to remind everyone to MAKE A BACKUP of your build.prop before you begin any of this. And in case you're wondering, I used a root explorer to edit mine (ES File Explorer to be exact).
--------------------------------------------------
OP:
I've seen this guide in various places but i thought it would be most useful in here. I have searched to see if anyone has posted this here but found nothing.
Basically Box.net are offering 50GB online storage (normally 5GB) to anyone with an LG or Xperia phone. If you dont have any of these phones you can still benifit from this offer by quickly editing your build.prop.
What you need:
- Rooted phone
- A way to edit your build.prop - build.prop editor, root explorer, etc.
- box.com app
First open your build.prop using yor prefered method and edit these two lines to look like this (MAKE A BACKUP FIRST):
ro.product.manufacturer=LGE
ro.product.model=VS910 4G
Save, reboot.
Open the box app and register for a new account and you should receive a 50GB account.
This offer ends on the 31st of december so make the most of it.
Dont forget to restore your original build.prop after.
Post a link to this thread wherever you can so everybody can make the most of this offer!!
Hmm thanks, this worked for me no problem. Can't say no to 50gb.

Hey 50gigs is 50gigs. Definitely more than enough for collaborating on projects and trivial file storage. I mean it's no HD replacement, but it's free and imo better than Dropbox or SugarSync. I think of it like an extra large flash drive that I never have to remember to grab on my way out (or forget it and leave it somewhere, lol).
Tried to edit build prop, but doesn't save. What can i do to fix that?

Use ES file manager and go into your setting/preferences and scroll all the way down and just click on the options to "open as writable" it'll ask you for root permission and presto.
I had that same problem with astro and root explorer along with ES until I saw that option.

Yes! to 50 GB
i had an old account with 10 GB, i could definitely use another 50, and another 50 more
got plenty of email address
but even so, i still prefer DropBox better, it's much more integrated into more Apps
Box.net is not as popular, and they have been on the market waaaaaaay longer than dropbox

sweet!!!!! it upgrade my old 10+ years old dummy account from 10 GB to 50 GB
you don't need to register for a new account, just by logging in to the old account, you automatically get upgraded

A cool thing you can do with the Box account is make a network drive on your PC so you can easily access it like a folder on your comp.
1.My computer
2.Tools
3.Map Network Drive...
4.Choose the bottom link that says "sign up for online storage or connect to a..."
5.Choose another network location
6.In the box paste in box.net/dav and click next (Put in the standard http// and www infront of the box.net/dav. I just cant post the full link because im a new member.)
7.Put in the 50gig Box account you made, login and name the drive.
Thats it, now you can easily access your 50gigs on the comp also.

Hey, I'm glad everyone else is pretty stoked about this also. You can never have too much storage (I was on the same page as AllGamer and used multiple accounts, lol). I'm glad that I could share this with everyone.
Also, I doubt that box.net will "get wise" to this. If they are not as popular as other big cloud services (ie. sugarsync and dropbox), and they're using a promotion like this to boost business. They we're probably hoping for/expecting a large number of new users. So lets give 'em what they're lookin' for!
Wow. That was easy. Much appreciated.

Open / read / download from it / upload to it / make changes and you even see the space you used on your dropbox.
600 MB additional free storage
Hi all
Just found a smart way to increase your Dropbox account with 600 MB:
1 Sign into your existing Dropbox account (or create a new account)
2 Goto https://www.dropbox.com/free
3 Follow instructions ... and voila 600 MB additional free storage
The only thing i use dropbox for on my phone is my ereader. Since i use Freda, it has dropbox support built right in. no client needed.
Since files on windows phone are sandboxed... is there really a need for a dropbox only app? Just curious what you all are doing with the apps.
What are people thoughts? Only used the Android version so far, but I see no folders Or way to see my items without just showing all... Free space x my 4 gmail accounts will be good. It's 5gb free for anytime wondering.

I'm really enjoying it. I've been getting my Android back stuff on there and my photos. You can't hide folders but they are set to private with access granted by other users email addresses being added to view your folder.

I was browsing the Nexus S forums and found this in a thread about google drive, you guys might find it interesting..
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/how-far-does-google-drives-terms-go-in-owning-your-files/75228
The terms that scare me, also from the Nexus S thread:
Google Drive — Terms
“Your Content in our Services: When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide licence to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes that we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content.
The rights that you grant in this licence are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This licence continues even if you stop using our Services (for example, for a business listing that you have added to Google Maps).”

50 GB from drive is nice I agree, but I rarely use it because of the file size limitation...
So on Drive the problem I have with is the android app kind of sucks. I don't need the alphabet showing me where I'm at between files. It makes it show a lot fewer files at a time.. I want just a file explorer kind of view. I need the ability to add folders. And the worse thing is where are the files after I make them available offline? Like if I store android files and then make them offline for phone use I can't access them outside of the drive app unless I'm missing something.
Things that will change in time I'm sure, but for now since I primarily use my android devices over PC I have still been using drop box mostly other than to est stuff.
I like sugarsync.

with box, dropbox and skydrive, with least 10gb of space, why would you go use google drive when it is only 5gb?
its out 2day if you dont have it yet.

dropbox only gives u 2gb. u have to get people to register to get more space. check out cx and minus, also.
i've got 4.6gb on dropbox, after playing with the beta and uploading lots of stuff for the increased space...
got 50gb on box.net, but 100mb file limit sux.
I have a box 50gb account but that is very hard to fill up with the 100mb max single upload limit so I'm all for Gdrive
Edit: has anyone actually gotten to use this yet it tells me mines not ready yet. I WANT lol

Its all friggin propaganda, read the WHOLE tos
"Some of our Services allow you to submit content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours. When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content."
The first 2 sentences have been conveniently removed to stir up distrust. It only grants them the power to take your stuff and modify it better to fit in their services for you (keyword translation).

I'm posting here instead of android general because i would like the opinions of fellow Optimus G owners. not that having this device should matter but you know.. whatever lol.
Im looking for the best Cloud service to store and organize photos as a life long photo album. right now im using box because we get 50gb just for owning the optimus G and i find it being the best ive used compared to dropbox and google+ but i have used neither of those long enough to make a solid opinion of them either.
my daughter is about to turn 3 and i have been uploading and organizing with the folder setup through box for a photo collection of her years sense birth but im looking for a more efficient way of doing this. maybe something tailored towards photos rather than files in general.
i know of:
Box (currently using)
Dropbox (dont use it anymore because they removed the download feature)
Google+ (havnt played around with that too much)
if any of you know of anything better than box for organizing photos then please share your opinion im completely open to switching to something better. i have over 1000+ pictures of her and cant bring myself to delete any of them. i dont keep every picture i take, these are just a combination of pictures taken by myself, her mother, and other family members. too many to print and apply to a physical photo album. eventually i will delicate a tablet to just her pictures once the technology reaches stability for that sort of thing lol but untill then i need to utilize the cloud.

yeah, thanks for that. busted my bubble, but i'll make sure to get my files off before it's too late.
I use box. It's been great for me and I have saved, similar to you, literally THOUSANDS of pictures of my children there. You cannot go wrong with how well it organizes, the fast sync to your desktop and the ease of organizing.
My brother loves dropbox, but the free space given by box can't be beat, although I have heard rumors that the 50gb is free for two years and then they charge for it.
Maybe check out Dropbox again. They've really been focusing on photos lately with instant upload and auto-import, as well as album sorting both online and in the app. They've also made photo viewing online and in the app really nice, and more features are coming soon because I noticed I got an early preview invitation.

Actually, if you press "Menu>Export>Save to sdcard" you can save to any folder on your sdcard. Also, you can "star" photos as favorites, and this will ensure that those photos or files always have a copy on your phone.
