bootloader doesnt load ROM - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I made a goldcard and followed the instructions on the thread for downgrading the DHD, my software is currently 1.75.35.2. I get right through to the point Ive put the 1.32 stock ROM on my SD card and rebooted into bootloader. It finds the image, loads the image then checks it and goes back to the main bootlader options. I cant get it to actually install the older rom. Any ideas what is required?

Does any message come up after it finds and reads the .zip file?

solved it, the CID was wrong with the goldcard. Redone the goldcard and its now rooted etc and Ive put Android revolution HD 5.1.1 ROM on it

Can't UNROOT 0.80 Bootloader - Peed off

All,
Basically I have what was an Orange branded Desire but I unlocked and rooted it and until yesterday I was running Modaco R5 froyo MCR
I have tried to unroot and my goldcard works fine but it will only let me install the virgin ROM:
RUU_Bravo_Virgin_Mobile_1.23.351.1_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_128941_signed.exe
I have tried 5 different WWE and European RUU's but keep getting the same bootloader version error.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, I am not a noob to all this and flashed ROMS when I had my Hero, the only thing I can think of is that all the RUU Roms are for 7.5 Bootloader.
I think youre right, I believe that if you try to flash a rom that is compatible with the boot-loader it will fail, the first one I tried when trying to get to the official froyo without root didnt work I just went the other way and took the rooted option it means I can go back anytime without warranty issues.
I have a tmo with hboot 0.80. I am rooted and have flashed the froyo rooted vrsion which is what I think you need to do.
Best bet is to head over to macardo forum sign up and ask there, the thread I put on this morning asking about rooting has still not been answer at macardo I got answers straight away.
If your rooted install the clockworkmod recovery which you will find here under fake flash: hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189 change the xx's for t's^
follow the instructions
then install the rom manager from the market, first click on install rom from sd this will make th rom manager install files you need to access the recovery without having to flash it every time.
then download the latest radio found here : hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687464 Not th leaked but the latest 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20
put on root of sd card make sure you set your desire to charge only after this, go into rom manager and reboot into recovery you should see green writing not blue and it should look similar to what you see on hero or g1 then flash from sd card you radio once your radio has been flashed reboot put a froyo rootd rom onto your sd card and reboot into recovery the same way and flash job done.
This took me 5 hours believe it or not but now I know how to do it would probably take 20-30mins

[Q] Help / Advice needed PLEASE..

Hi, I am new to the andriod platform an i have just got a HTC Desire with Virgin Mobile, PLEASE BE GENTLE.....
It does not seem to be sim locked as i have tried an Orange sim in the phone and it works.
I have seen a Desire with Froyo on it and want to upgrade my phone.
After trying all the guides on various forums i still cannot upgrade and VM is not offering the update OTA.
when trying the Goldcard method I get error wrong bootloader, when trying with the OTA named update.zip using recovery it also throws up an error and exits.
What i have done now is rooted the phone using unrevoked3 method which has worked.
i want to have a stock 2.2 phone, not bothered about keeping the root, if i put the OTA update.zip on the sd card (or goldcard as i have created one) and flash using the clockworkmod recovery which is now on my phone will this work or should i update the radio first and will i be able to get OTA updates in future ???
my desire is:
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Software number 1.23.351.1
Bootloader 0.80.0000
when it boots it has the VM logo but apart from that there is no other branding on the phone.
Obviously i dont want to brick the phone, i have done lots of reading and i am still unsure of how i can get my phone updated.
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help....
Your phone is rooted?
Simply download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Which is a rooted but everything else is the same as stock 2.2. That way you'll have the option to use custom roms etc.
If you need step by step instructions to flashing as the guide on that page isn't so detailed let me know.

Thanks for the reply , if i keep root i was thinking of trying this rom
h**p://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726300
i take it since my desire is rooted and i am on boot 0.80.000 i will just need to flash radio first , then flash the rom??
will it matter that my desire is possibly classed as branded and has the operators custom firmware on looking at the software number???
do i just rename the radio to update.zip and put on sd card and flash with clockworkmod , then do the same with the rom ???
should i use the goldcard when doing the above or will any sd card be ok??
thanks again for the advice....
Update....
Took the plunge and installed radio 32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20 and then the Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed].
All went well but the phone was running slow.
Did a factory reset and wipe in clockworkmod and reinstalled the rom.
restored my apps using mybackup , got contacts back off google account and all is good now.

[Q] Bricked HTC Desire after installing OTA 2.2 Update

Hi,
I'm new so please excuse any of my stupid questions.
I have an unbranded, unlocked HTC Desire, in Australia, apparently it was a t-mobile device. Being naive I didn't realize this could create issues with OTA updates - I know now though! I don't think it's rooted, but wouldn't know the difference. There are no telco logos etc.
My desire got stuck in a rebook loop when I installed the OTA update to android 2.2. It seems to me the update hasn't completed. I finally got restarted after removing the battery.
In about phone it says I have:
Android 2.2 installed
build 3.13.720.1 CL233262
Baseband version 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernel 2.6.29.0cb9f166
I have
HBOOT 0.82
RADIO 4.06.00.02_2 if that's relevant.
The phone won't recognize my sim card or SD card and gets an error when I try to turn on wifi. For added joy it frequently force closes.
I tried to do a factory reset but it never seemed to complete. Then I turned on with vol down + power and did clear storage. It removed my data but didn't otherwise help.
I gather from reading various forums that I need to go back to the 2.1 version?
Do I need a goldcard to do this? How do I make one?
How do I know which file to use?
Is there anything else a newbie needs to know so I don't make a bad situation worse?
Thanks!
I think you should first downgrade to 2.1.
Also you are going to need a Goldcard, but i don't
know if you can make it without the phone working properly.
Try to find and install branded RUU in order to make the phone work and then proceed with making the goldcard and debranding.
Thanks for the links!
I'll take a deep breath and have a go. Looks like I'll need to get a microSD adaptor first.
It's better to start by searching a branded RUU suitable for your phone. At this point your phone's SD slot is unusable so you won't be able to make the goldcard.
IMO sd adapter is not needed, you might use the phone as a card reader (assuming that you have installed the branded RUU).
So I don't need a goldcard to install the RUU?
No but it has to be 2.2 and branded. I think it is also safe to try to install previous versions if you are not able to find a 2.2 RUU. Don't forget to check tel company's site, here and here.
I'd recommend you root the phone (no goldcard required) and install a custom rom (mine will work). That will get the phone running normally again, then you can create a goldcard and run official unrooted software if you want.

SD card is required so you are going to need a card reader, as you can't use your phone at this moment. Or you can try unrevoked.
The r6 root method is obsolete now, and shouldn't be used. unrevoked3 might not work, it depends on how far the upgrade got before failing.
How would I root the phone? Do I use the usb cable and run a file?
If I shouldn't use unrevoked where can I find one I can safely use? It's all new to me.
Unrevoked is what you should use. You need to enable USB debugging and run the file.
If it works you'll end up in custom recovery, where you can install a rooted ROM.
I was downloading an RUU from TMO, but it was taking forever so I guess I won't be doing anything until tomorrow when I have a faster connection.
If you have an SLCD screen then running that is really not a good idea.
OK. So do I copy the custom ROM to the SD card before I root the phone or do I run it on the PC as well?
Yeah I don't think I have an SLCD screen, but would rather not take unnecessary risks.
Yes, you'll need the custom rom on the sdcard so will need to copy that separately. Unrevoked3 runs on the PC/Mac. If you have no card reader it's possible to upload the rom to the sdcard while in recovery, but it's a bit fiddly.
If you're certain you have an AMOLED screen then the t mobile RUU should work.
My phone came in July so I think it's AMOLED.
Looks like unrevoked3 is down at the moment with a redirect to unrevoked2.
I should be able to get the ROM on the SD card with a friend's non-android phone. Do I need a goldcard though as that may be a problem with my phone down.
Just follow the link to download version 3.14 (it's still unrevoked3).
No goldcard is needed to root or install a custom rom.
OK. Thanks for your patience! I guess I need to rename the ROM update.zip as I've seen mentioned elsewhere before I save it to the SD card.
I'll give it a go and post the results once I'm done , tomorrow I hope
You don't need to rename it. That's just for stock recovery. In custom recovery you get a basic filemanager where you can select the file.

[Q] Stuck on boot screen-tried all usual tricks!

Hi guys, I'm at the end of my tether now!
My phone kept rebooting when using Navigation yesterday, then after the 3rd time it has just been stuck on the HTC boot screen and nothing will fix it.
I can't even get into recovery, so I cant do a nandroid restore.
I have been using Leedroid 2.2e with no problems before this.
I have tried flashing the latest RUU but because I had the latest Froyo already installed it wont work as it needs to be an older version on the phone.
I cant downgrade Froyo to an older version as I cant get into the phone to turn on USB debugging.
I have only had the phone 2 weeks, please help if possible.
If you use the 2.10.405.2 or 2.29.405.2 RUUs they should flash with no issues. Might be worth extracting out the ROM.zip from the RUU, rename it PB99IMG.zip, copy it to the sd card and go into HBOOT and it should revert back to stock (assuming it can read the card)
I tried flashing the 2.10.405.2 RUU but it fails halfway with a Customer ID error, and I know the goldcard is good so I thought it must be failing the check for older software version.
I also tried renaming and flashing the rom from the card, but the phone read the file and a progress bar went up the right hand side of the screen, then nothing, it just stopped.
I'm not really clued up on these things, but I have been doing a lot of reading on various forums.
Hey EddyOS, thanks for the heads up on the 2.29.405.2 RUU, that was what I needed to flash over my current rom.
All back and running now, after being up all night trying to fix it.
I'm scared to root and put a custom rom on now in case it happens again and I have to send it in for a warranty repair, that was my biggest worry.
Thanks again!

[Q] Changing from one custom HBOOT to another

Hi
I'm trying to change from Oxygen modified Alpharev to CM7 modified alpharev, but with no luck.
I've searched the forums and have found a few related threads but none of them worked for me. Apologies if the answer is there and I've missed it!
I'm currently running the latest Oxygen rom on my rooted HTC Desire (Vodafone UK), with the Oxygen specific version of Alpharev's HBOOT 0.93.0001 and Radio 5.17.05.23
I'm now wanting to try another rom and know I'll need to change to a different custom HBOOT first, but I just can't figure out how to change from one hboot to another.
I tried downloading the zip version of the CM7 hboot and install it from my SD card (renamed it, placed it in the root, then booted into HBOOT) but I get an error message 'incorrect CID'. I've also tried the 'Stock' and 'downgrader' versions of Alpharev but get exactly the same error.
I'd originally tried burning the .img version of the file to disc then booting into the disc, as I did when I initially installed Alpharev but, I suspect that because, unlike the original alpharev file, it was an .img as opposed to the .iso, the disc wasn't bootable, so didn't work.
I contemplated reinstalling stock rom and then rerooting but I suspect that wouldn't work either until I've changed my HBOOT.
I've never had to Goldcard so don't have one that I can use.
Any gentle nudging in the correct direction to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
You can create a goldcard every time with goldcardtool. The goldcard is only connected to sd card and not to your phone (or its os).
Furthermore, the version with pb99img.zip files does not work very often. Just do it with fastboot (you can use fastboot, because you are still s-off, that is what I get from your post). First flash downgrader, than the stock hboot.

You're right, I am already s-off, which to be honest is my main problem, since I managed to go s-off originally with no issues!
I'll have a go at making a goldcard over the weekend, then take it from there. Am I right in saying that to do the fastboot method, I'll need to install the android sdk?
Yes, you need to install android sdk.
