HDMI and USB cables - Xoom Accessories

I bought a used Motorola xoom and it only came with the charger cable. It doesn't have a usb or hdmi cable so I need to buy these.
Any recommendation on where to get these? Can I buy generic cables or do I have to buy the overpriced motorola approved cables?

www.monoprice.com

I think you should go back to the store you bought it from and ask for the USB cable because every box contains --> Xoom, Micro-USB data cable, Power Cable, manuals and random papers.

To answer more completely, first of all, you should definately have gotten a USB cable, no hdmi. Ebay for the hdmi, and demand your store deals with the usb, so you get the original one.
Finally, Motorola isn't apple, you can use any cable that fits.

Come to think of it I don't think I got a cable either...I need to go back and open the box back up - I know the charger is still in it (I used the dock since day one)

How have you not used the charger? My charging dock needs the charger out of the xoom box, which dock are you referring to?

My standard dock came with a charger, but to answer the OP any USB to micro USB cable will work and same with the HDMI. Monoprice.com is really good for low cost but still good quality cables.

Standard dock is the charging one? I would have loved a second charge but my charging dock was just the little dock and a last ic adapter for use with a case.

Aww thanks. Actually I bought my xoom off ebay. Only 600$ for the 3g version but it was like 1 month used still in perfect condition. It only came with a charger though.

Yeah, standard dock came with a charger identical to the one in the box with the xoom. Plugs into the back of the dock it self. Never had a need for the other.

USB data cable

Do any of you guys and gals know of an aftermarket cable that will work with the captivate. I lost the original one that came with the phone. Have since bought two different chargers, one from the att store (zero charger), and they charge the phone but don't put it on USB mode like the original one did when I plug it to a laptop.
Sent from my rooted Cappy.
All you need is a standard MicroUSB to USB cable. Make sure it's a standard cable, and not a "charge only" cable though.
A bit of advise, generally if you buy a cable that isn't a Samsung USB cable, you're going to have to take a razor blade to your new cable and cut away some of the rubber around the MicroUSB plug. You'll see that untrimmed, you might have a hard time getting the cable secured in the phone's port.
Thanks man. I actually just noticed the "charging only cable" written on the tag on the cable. Now I know what to look for. And you're right, the one I bought from a gas station was always popping out. The one from att fits like a glove though.
Sent from my rooted Cappy.
All it takes is a razor blade or something similar, and a few seconds. I use a bunch of generic USB cables which all have fat plug heads. Trimming a little of the rubber off and they all work perfect.
Weird, for some reason my original cable from ATT now is really loose, I have to like set the phone down a certain way to keep it charging/plugged in.
The only cables that now do fit snuggly are the ones from my external mini hard drives with the fat head, haha, I wonder why...my captivate still looks normal, can't figure it out.
I guess I should see if my normal cable fits with my externals or falls out of those too, if so it would be the cable. But it seems weird that the fat headed cables fit snuggly with my captivate, so that makes me think maybe its the captivate.
long winded stupid post, sorry.
i bought a blackberry cable from best buy... data and charging... 16 bucks. but when ever your puppy ate your data cable in the middle of the night and you're phone is at 30% battery, ya tend to pay for it...

Check out www all4cellular DOT com
They have the OEM Samsung Captivate (U.S./Edison) Wall Charger and USB Charging+Data Cable for $6.95 + $2 Shipping.
The item number is "eta0u60jbe". But this item # includes BOTH the USB Wall Charger (# ETA0U60JBE) AND the USB-to-Micro USB data/charging Cable (# ECC1DU2BBE)!
I bought two of these and they are EXACTLY like the original Charger and ~5ft. USB Cable that comes with the Captivate. They are OEM/Samsung-branded and labeled and are not Chinese-made knock-offs. I am in SoCal and received them within a few days of ordering.

I had similar issues, till I realized that the problem was with the sliding door for the microUSB port - make sure it is pushed all the way back (you may hear a click) - its only then that all my MicroUSB cables fit w/out any modifications to them.
as always YMMV.

I second the Monoprice.com recommendation. I buy ALL my cables there. The heads on their micro USB cables are too large to plug into the Captivate unmodified, but I used a Dremel to fix that.
Both of my Monoprice cables are going strong, in contrast with my OEM cable, which started out excellent, but is now so loose as to not maintain a connection unless the phone and cable are precisely arranged.

I have a 1009 model. Assuming that means it was manufactured Sept,2010. Now to find a microUSB
We have some micro USB 5' Cables coming in Monday. If they are like the sample they not only fit the Captivate properly, but when plugged into our new Car Plug ->USB (2100mA) adapter, my Captivate shows "Charging (AC) ".
We originally brought in the Hi-Power USB car adapter so iPad & Tablet customers could both run & charge at the same time. We have had enough request from customers looking to use it with Smart Phones, that I had to find the best matching cable.

As mentioned, get your cables from monoprice. I mean, you just can't beat a usb cable for $2. If it needs trimmed, I usually just use a razor knife/box cutter to remove the bulk, and it works perfectly. I actually had to order a 25ft. VGA cable from them a couple of days ago...$8. Seriously. Definitely the cheapest place I've seen to buy cables.

i9250 oem phone charger

Can anyone tell me the exact model number for the simple USB wall charger?
I had it for the GSII.
Looking to buy off ebay.
Mine came with a different charger that needs converter. Picture below...
I bought this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120869020359?ssPageName=STRK:null:IT#ht_1116wt_905
because my Gnex shipped with an European plug and US adapter (which I hate carrying around). It is OEM and you get the wall plug and USB cable as well.
does it really matter what usb wall adapter is used? I bought a generic one that can double as a car adapter for when I need it in the car and it works fine for me when plugged into the wall.
what if the charger overheats the $600 dollar phone and it catches on fire then destroys your $500,000 house...
Better 7 dollar charger than -500,600 loss....hmmmm?

That's the only reason I haven't bought that one yet. It's the same USB cable that came with the Nexus S, but I want the same one that came with the Galaxy Nexus, but with a US adapter like that one.
Is there a place to get the same charger that shipped with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (without the Verizon stickers)? I've searched everywhere, but can't seem to find anything official.

No idea which ships with Verizon version but Amazon has the little OEM 1.0A US charger which is what I got. It works great. I just use the Motorola micro usb cables. My GSM Nexus came with a travel adapter but with UK blades only. I ordered a replacement from Clove but it was missing the other blades too. Either Clove misrepresented the description because it claimed to have multiple blades you can switch out or Samsung packaged mine wrong so I got a refund.

Those docks are NOT from Mugen!
They are from a company called Kidigi, which the logo says on the docks...
I have been using the dock with place for a 2nd battery for a month and it is really good. Fits perfectly and feels high quality. It can charge a standard sized battery, but not the extended battery. And they only fit the GSM model, not the VZW model...
If you have a MHL-adapter you do not need the HDMI dock, just plug the mhl adapter into the dock and you will be able to transfer the picture.
I bought mine from 4u-mobi.com
Can certainly recommend those docks!
Posted about this a while back, seems there is a little more interest now that people realize how expensive the Samsung option is.
I have the dock with the spare battery charger as well.
It fits nice and snug both with and without a case, though that may also be a complaint for some people. I used to have the Nexus One desktop dock, so it's a little annoying that the dock stays so well attached when I'm trying to take the phone out of it. If the Samsung dock wasn't so stupidly expensive I probably would have preferred to go official just for ease of docking/undocking.
The best feature is that the dock will actually support data through the USB port on it, so like others have mentioned you can transfer files while connected to a computer, or turn it into a HDMI dock with a MHL adapter.

I have a mhl adapter but two questions/concerns.
1) Can you charge the phone and output hdmi if you connect the MHL adapter?
2) The mhl adapter also needs power. If I am using this in the car, not sure how I will provide power to the MHL adapater and phone at the same time. Does the MHL adapter also charge the phone when it is plugged in?
Ugh another gsm only option. I think I've finally had it and I'm going to try making my own.

1) Yes, but you will need to plug a charger into the mhl adapter.
2) Have not tried, but I guess that may be a problem since the mhl cable requires enough power. Maybe a cable from 12V to the MHL is enough, but I cannot guarantee that it will work.

Micro USB replacement cable

I was wondering if anyone knows of any good replacement micro USB cables. Mine has started to act funky and only charges correctly at a certain angle.
I know there are several cheap cables out there on Amazon and eBay but I was looking for something reliable such that if I flash through Odin or some type of future Bootloaders I do not wanna risk bricking my phone because of a bad cable.
Can anyone suggest or link me to official and not knockoff Samsung cables or some other alternative that works well. If not can on suggest a reliable Brand that I can search for.
Thanks.
Belkin make very good cables indeed. I have several; give them a shot. They're not overpriced, either.
I would stay away from the cheap ebay ones (as you said) - they don't seem to work correctly, never seem to charge/connect to my S3 properly.

I hate that Samsung Galaxy S cable. It comes off way too easy.
My favorite one is Logitech cable: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Lo...556?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336a98f674 . I have few because they come with the devices. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with HTC OEM cable. Only $1 on ebay and it works great.

This is the type of cables that I use. I bought 8 of them last year, and I have put them in my car, my wifes car, my daughters car (with cheap USB chargers of course). I put chargers on a couple of my motorcycles using them. I have a pair of bluetooth intercoms for my helmets that need micro-USB chargers for them both. I had to buy another bag of 8. I've given a couple of them away. So I have about a dozen charge connections, and only about $25.
There is no reason to pay more the $2 each for these cables. The USB works on them. They charge over USB. They charge at the high charge rate. They work correctly and they are reliable. And if one of them DOES ever fail, I won't feel bad.

Stay away from the 89c cables from Hong Kong, they are horrible quality and don't conform to USB wiring standards. I had a bad experience the other day when I tried to plug the emergency cable I keep in my bag into my S3, wouldn't go in, I thought I'd somehow bent the charging port on my S3 but really it was just the ****ty cable.
Both ports connect perfectly to cell phone and computer. - The length of the cable is the right size (90 cm), not too long and not too short. - I have been using it for some weeks and it works fine for both transferring data and recharging my phone.http://dx.com/p/usb-charging-data-cable-for-samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-90cm-length-59092
Although monoprice are quality the cable's micro usb side(metal part) isn't as long as the Samsung cable and they don't tend to stay in as well. But it's not that bad but noticeable. I love monoprice besides shipping costs

Pretty much any micro usb cable from a reputable manufacturer will work (its the chargers where you get the differences). I've used my S3 cable, an old Motorola cable, and a monoprice (generic) cable for charging it and other devices with no problems.
Some generic cable don't work very well. I've had charging problems. You can get the Motorola cable pretty cheap on amazon.
Mine stopped working after about 3 weeks. The cable was never bent or even removed from the wall adapter either! It's very possible that you didn't bend the cable in your sleep, and instead the cable just stopped working like mine did. Since then, I've just been using one of my many HTC cables plugged in to the Asus wall adapter that came with my N7 FHD. It works perfectly!

This is true! I think the post you quoted would have been better stated by saying that any cable FROM A REPUTABLE MANUFACTURER should work just fine. Not just ANY cable because, unfortunately, there are many 3rd party cables that are just junk. If you have a cable from your current or previous phone, and it's a phone manufactured by a reputable company, then it should work without a problem.

Fixed my post I've never bought a no name cable but I can imagine if they're cheaply/poorly built they'll have terrible impedance and charge too slow.
Also note that really long cables will charge slower (unless they use lower guage wire)
For Monoprice, avoid the 24AWG ferrite bead ones (the ones that go for about $1 for a 3-foot one). While they seem like quality cables at first, I've had 4 and 3 of them have gotten flaky over time (the D+/D- ones broke on one of them so it doesn't talk to a computer anymore, and the other two often lose connection when moved around).
I have a bunch of different standard cables from eBay (different lengths), even the colorful ones. All work without problems. It's a digital cable ( 2 data and 2 power lines). if it's not broken or shorted any cable should work. Of course if you approach the maximum length (5m -15 ft) of usb and the cable is not up to the specs it may start failing but for 1-3 m should not have problems with any cable. If we speak about the power adapter (not cable) it's another story. There are many variants and not all provide the specified power, but if the specs are correct the 2A and 3A ones should work. Car adapters , an even more different story. I'm not using my Nexus 7-2 in car (have a build in Android navi now), but I used the first gen Nexus 7, and I tried 3 different adapters until I found one which provided enough power to charge the tablet with GPS and navi on (most will let the tablet slowly discharge). I think this model require less power so maybe even some which did not work will work now.

I did two tests both using the Asus power adapter that came with the device and these are the specs for it from the Asus website:
Output:5.2V 1.35A/7W for other USB device
Input:100-240V AC, 50/60Hz universal
I attached two pictures using battery monitor widget. Just adding in too my n7 is unlocked and rooted but completely stock other than that. The first picture is with the Asus USB cable that came with the device and the second picture is with my 6ft premium cable from monoprice. Sorry if this isn't what you were asking for.

yeah was looking for the mA delivered to device...have you noticed any difference in how long it takes to fully charge the n7? I know there's tons of cables just looking for one with comparable performance to stock one.

I haven't actually been able to test the time it takes to fully charge since I usually charge it overnight but I'll try to run some tests and time how long it takes with the different cables and I'll post my findings. From what I've seen so far from using it, I haven't noticed any difference with charge time between the stock cable and the monoprice one With my experience using it to charge my droid razr (xt912) definitely no difference with charge time compared to the stock motorola usb cable. I'm sure with the n7 it's totally fine.
