Hey guys let me tell you about this probably normal but weird thing that happens to my inc, it gets really hot from the back. I have been using the web (couple pages), mms app, 1 phone call, and the xda app. Have also installed advanced task killer froyo and stopped all applications from running on backround. I am using skyraiders 3.5 rom. I have it plugged in to the wall charger. And after I unplug It just dies quckly, its temperature is 109.8°F/43.2°C. Im using stock battery. Can the battery be causing this? Am I going to have to replce for another battery? Does anybody else have this problem? Any feedback is appreciated.

I've had mine to 115°F. There's tons of debates about task killers. That in fact could very well be causing your problems. If you have it set to kill background apps that are meant to run they will start up as soon as the task is killed. This cycle will drain a battery pretty damn quick and cause it to get hot. My opinion, take it off. Its not needed. Just cause its "running" in the background doesnt mean its actively doing anything. look at the battery use and then click on an app thats "running" it will tell you how long it has been actively using power.
Task killers are bad.
Your temp is fine, but watch out if it starts getting around 115+. The LED will flash if you hit 119, that's getting into the danger zone.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Also get app Android System Info (by ElectricSheep). You can go to the task tab, then sort by cpu to see what app is running most. (Android System info, I.e. the app you're using, will be quit high. But that's temporary). Like others said, it's probably the task killer.

yeah i thought so! well the rthing is that i had another inc before the one i had and it wouldnt even get near this hot but im looking on ebay right now to buy another battery, and just test it out to see if the battery makes any difference!
another question, do you think the OEM evo battery will last longer on my inc? i mean since the evo runs more apps and the os is more complex? would it fit my inc?

The evo is just a bigger screen version of the DInc with WiMax.
I meant to say since the evo has a bigger screen, and its 4g , so i think it uses more battery power than the incredible right? So the evo stock battery should holdbmore power than the incredible stock battery

Yes, the evo's battery is a little bigger but I really doubt the battery is your problem. If I were you I'd just do a clean install and see how things go. Don't download a task killer either.

The only task killer I can recommend is watchdog. It doesn't act like other task killers. It doesn't kill anything by default. and warns you if a background task is using over a configurable percentage of cpu time. you can then kill it if you desire. Pretty useful for those rogue apps that some times freeze up, and take the processing power with it.

+1 for Watchdog, wouldn't call it a task killer tho as its more a cpu monitor but it can kill tasks also (because of its high usage)
+2 for watchdog. Use the paid version and love it!

Just download watchdog lite
Please look up some articles written by people smarter than me on why android as an OS handles multitasking far better than anything you're used to by googling something like "android task killer waste bad" if you want a well researched explanation that is over your head.
Basically, you don't need it. And if you're using it to only kill some rogue app once in a blue moon (which is the only legitimate reason to use it), you may as well use the built in force close function of Froyo instead of a separate app.
I just get horrible battery life. I'm running:
ROM: VirusROM Airbourne RC3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.15-netarchy-toast mod-4.1.9.1-cfs with aggressive undervolting

Getting horrible battery life even on standby just wondering if having a ATK would help out at all I know Android your not supposed to really one but at this point I'm willing to try. I'm pretty new here but have been doing alot of research here. I would go into settings, battery and see if your phone has been searching for a signal. Mine is at 0% and i get great battery life but iknow this has been a big drain on the battery if your phone is spending a lot of time searching for a signal .

Try JuiceDefender
You don't need it with an evo, but I did find that 2.1 didn't do a glorious job of freeing up memory with my RAM-less Samsung Moment. In that case, I needed to kill stuff that didn't always come back or as frequently. With the EVO, I've seen no reason so far to have it.
I run ATK, SystemPanel, and occasionally EStrong Task Manager.
Not to kill but because I like to see whats running.
People jump to conclusions the second you mention Task Killer. (*Points up*)
I honestly get better battery life with task killers because an app that's consuming cpu won't get killed by android because i have 260mb free memory, I can kill it manually.
Anyways, Could try tweaking the built in task manager with this:
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-dustypixels-minfreemanager-wiAA.aspx MinFreeManager.
Which do you guys think is better in terms of saving some battery and not hindering my performance at all?

Actually I run stock, and I can tell you its no Placebo effect, my battery without it ran up to 12 hours, but with it I can get close to 30. Its main thing is(for both of them) is that it shuts down your data when your screen is off, and only turning it on at certain intervals. When your screen is on the data is on. They both are about the same, I prefer JD, but have used SP. It is a legit way to save battery especially if your stock as well as rooted. Now app killers on the other hand...not so much.

You know with Sense that it has the data off built-in? Go to wireless settings and turn off always on data. When the screen is off after 5 minutes, I think, it cuts the data off till you turn the screen on. In fact, Juice Defender eats up battery for me because it keeps the phone from sleeping a lot of the time.

Actually, he's sorta wrong. You honestly think that the app uses as much juice as the data connection?
Superpower does no polling at all, all state triggered and has some SetCPU features built in, like seeting to ondemand and max 400mhz.
I've been using juice defender since august when I got my EVO and the battery saving has been exponential. That combined with my 3000mAh extended battery and I get 4 days on 3g.
I have not used either but I hear good things about juice. The only reason I don't run them is I use google messenger so I need my data always on. Juice pretty much cuts down how often your phone polls from the servers (kinda?). Anyways if you don't need constant connectivity I would say go with juice

Yeah I've used it since I got the Nexus and it works great. Does what it's supposed to do. I don't believe in supernatural beings though.
Full disclosure; I have had this bug which manifests about once every week where the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive in the lock screen and there is no way to unlock the screen or turn the phone off unless I pull the battery. I have this nagging feeling that it might have something to do with JuiceDefender but I haven't confirmed it.

I have the basic version of JuiceDefender running on my GN and I swear its making a noticeable difference in battery life.
I have it set to disable my Data connection whenever the phone is locked. It re-enables it when I unlock it, so it doesn't come on when I'm just checking the time. The effect is immediate too so data is there when you need it.
It also comes on once every 30min just to let apps/email sync briefly.
According to JuiceDefender its improved my battery life by 1.7x. I'd be inclined to say its about right...

Lol it does a bit more than that mate. It's the radio function management I need since I'm always too lazy to toggle them manually. I've been meaning to disable it to test if the lock screen bug would go away but I find it hard to use my phone without it now that I've got so used to it. The multitask button doesn't kill apps - swiping just removes them from the list. Its more like a recent used apps list - like long pressing the home button on Android 2.x use to be - than a multi task manager showing running apps.
As for juice defender, I bought ultimate, and it was just horrible. Very laggy UI, and felt like it was causing more battery usage itself than saving. The comments for 'ultimate' on the market seem to say the same thing. The free version seems much better, although you don't have as many options. There's also another paid version which is cheaper, but I havent tried it.
Put it this way, I uninstalled it Waste of £4.99 which is a ridiculously hefty price for something that cant even get its UI right.

JuiceDefender Ultimate
Hi,
I'm using it on my rooted GN 4.0.1, works well.
By using 3G/WLAN management I come up to 25 - 30 hours lasting battery power.
At home and in my office I told JDU (JuiceDefenderUltimate) to switch to those WLAN's and disable 3G there.
I'vnt tested all the other features like cpuspeedcontroll, or something else.
For me it works perfect.

Steps to prove yourself incorrect:
1) Install OSMonitor
2) Open GMail
3) Go to homescreen and open OSMonitor
4) In the process list, make sure GMail is listed (it should be!).
5) Press the Multitask soft button and swipe away GMail.
6) Check for GMail in OSMonitor and it will have disappeared as it is no longer running.
Magic!
Sorry I'm just on a personal mission to stop this misinformation from being spread.

I have been using JD Ultimate on my Nexus and it works great (I would estimate 1.5 - 2x battery life).

I use JD free on my GN, although I haven't seen what battery would be like without JD on it. On my Incredible, JD made the difference between not getting though a single day to getting almost 2 days out of my battery. On my GN with JD I'm still only getting about one full day's worth out of it, sometimes not quite a full day.

In my opinion....jd plus does worth the money spent.

Ice Cream Sandwich seems to do a lot of the things that JuiceDefender did on my old phone. For example, data is automatically turned off when you are connected to WiFi. I had it installed for a while, but when I looked at the list of apps that were using the battery (in the Android settings menu) JuiceDefender was listed as using a fair amount of battery. I'm not sure it is worth the hassle on this phone.
My battery went from 84% to 68% from texting, wifi, and music... (I wasn't even browsing the web....)

Batteries are insanely cheap on eBay. $20 will get you an external charger and two or three batteries. Worth it. Changes how you use your phone entirely.
And the battery on this phone is still leaps and bounds better than anything before it.
Wifi isn't a juice hog...3G is...wifi will save you battery by keeping you off of 3G. Playing music barely sucks any juice at all unless you are powering huge headphones at max volume, and even that that's not that much juice....and texting uses 2G that is going back-n-forth anyway.
...something else is up.
Took my phone off the charger at 96% and watched a 30min video and after I was down at 85%. I was using 4g too.

Task killers are also bad news.

That's a side-effect and/or another manifestation of the notorious Samsung battery bug. Ever notice how sometimes you reboot your phone and go from 70-90% down to 15-25% instantly? Well, I've noticed that it will also creep it's way back up, even under use....this sounds like that, though, admittedly I've never seen it happen at such a high battery level.

Android, as of Froyo, revamped it's auto-kill/freeze system to be even more effective. It really does work fine. Just because something was loaded doesn't mean it's consuming memory and/or processor cycles. Seeing that it appears to be 'running' might piss you off, but, just let it go. If you start killing these tasks they will inevitably pop up again...that DOES take processor cycles and memory....so now you've got a task killer actively running, consuming memory and processor cycles to kill programs that weren't really consuming any resources that will probably start back up to see if they have to do anything and that also consumes resources.
that's the dumbed-down version so far as I understand it.
So, on recent versions of Android task killers can not only be unnecessary but also counter productive.

Haven't tried it, but it seems like a good alternative to Juice Defender.

I use jd consistently and have never missed a call or text. It doesn't shut off the radio for that unless you change the settings.

thanks!
i dont know why battery saving programs like to kill your radio if your signal or battery is low......that's the whole point of having a cell phone!!
None of these "battery saving" apps work. And all the things they do can be done manually. If something has to run in the system to "save" battery... it uses battery attempting to save battery.

Well i notice that when i dont use JD i lose a good few hours on my battery.
JD does help when i ran W/O it on i went from 100% to 92% in 10 mins all i did was mess with some settings in the menu of the phone not JD.
task manager
I thought that's what the Task manager on the phone is for? I remember when I first got my phone at sprint they told me not to download any battery savers or task killers because they "bump heads" with the stock task manager. If I'm wrong please let me let me know.

No things have changed reason is they think that if you use the TW Task Manager it will kill thee battery app but if you know how to use either both for example Juice Defender has the option to stay in status bar so it won't be killed if you kill apps on the Task Manager, but why would you kill the app in the 1st place if you knew it saves battery.

Any results you say you get with these so called battery saving apps. Was because you were too lazy to do it manually. Had you done it manually you would have gotten much better "results."

I agree, and I am lazy, but I don't get better results doing it manually because I usually forget. My phone is a tool, I have enough important things to remember about rather then whether my wi-fi is on or not.
And if that fails, I always have my extra battery, or desk charger, or car charger etc. . .

One of the best things I have done to DRAMATICALLY increase my battery was to change the kernel, ROM and undervolt. I found the best combination for me was to use Shadowkernel v1.04, Legendary ROM and then manually change the voltage settings by about 10% or more.
I used to drain about 10% an hour on standby with wifi but now I'm down to about 1-3%. I drain about 6-10% an hour when I'm using the phone. The only problem I have is when I have a very bad signal, then my battery life goes down over 10% but I think I would have the same problem regardless of whether I modified my phone or not. I don't use any battery saver programs at all now.
