I'm trying to use the music controls on the lockscreen, and sometimes I want to hear more than 3-5 seconds of a song before skipping to the next one. Problem is, in those 3-5 seconds the screen turns off again.
Why not use volume buttons to change songs? But there is an option in cyanogen settings/ lock screen/ delay and timeout.

Because I'd like to change the volume with the volume keys.
Despite the name/descriptions of those settings that you are suggesting, neither of those two settings do what I'm asking.
Screen Timeout Delay - This only applies when the screen is both On AND already Unlocked.
Screen Turned Off Delay - This only applies after the screen has been turned off, whether manually or automatically. Then it starts to countdown, when the countdown reaches 0, the next time that you wake your phone, it will be locked.

You can still change the volume. To change the track you hold down. Its that simple

Thanks, did not know that. I guess I have no other choice than to go that route then.
You can use a custom timeout with "widget locker". Keep in mind, is a replacement for the lockscreen however.
I don't have music controls on mine, but it is handy to access emails or check sms with a single tap.
My lock screen resembles a home screen more than a lock screen. However, I find having quick access to the things i use most with the least amount of taps to be invaluable.

Love the DInc, but I have the worst time with the hard buttons on the side. They are so easy to press, and while I'm handling the phone, I frequently accidentally turn the volume down all the way. Ideally, I'd like to disable those buttons from being able to change the ringer volume. I haven't seen an app for that, although I have seen apps that change the ringer volume back to what it was after a few seconds if it was accidental, but that also affects changes with my auto-profile settings app as well. Not helpful...
Any ideas?
Thanks.
I had the same problem and I use "vibrate mode by force" app, not sure if this is one you've tried already. It basically locks it into vibrate mode. Perfect for me since I never use the ringer, ever- and it doesn't affect media volume when you want to change that.
There's another setting on the app to lock it into silent as well.

I used to never use the ringer when I had my Blackberry, as the vibrate was so strong. Now I just miss calls.
Thanks anyway for the feedback!

There is an app called volume locker. I use it and it works great (Free App)
Yep tried volume locker, but doesn't play well with auto profile setting software. I'll keep looking, and update this thread if I find the answer.
Thanks!

Volume Locker worked well when I was using Timerriffic, but with Tasker I keep getting a volume change notification from Volume Locker.
Anyone else having this issue?
I have no issues with volume locker. Works great...
Running Skyraider 3.5 and No task killers
Damn. just did a complete wipe and reinstalled Volume Locker and it still asks me to confirm the volume change when Tasker changes my profile. I did notice there's a plugin necessary for Tasker (according to the Volume Locker listing in Market), but I can't seem to find anything on it on the net or either dev's site.
Hi,
Is there a way to deactivate the fade out when pressing the lock key?
I want the display to be off immediately.
Thanks!
Try the app in the market called No Lock by BoD..? :/ see if you like it..

if your phone is running cynogen mod you should go and uncheck screen animations.
neither No Lock nor the deactivation of the animations doesn't work for me.
I'm running on CM7 and want the display to be off without fading to black when I press the lock key.
Thanks for reply.

If you turn the screen-off animation ON, and then go into Spare Parts and change window animations to OFF, screen off will be instant.
Don't ask me why, but it works.
Thanks. Works Fine. Can be closed

Yes, this works but it should be noted that it still causes the usual wake issues when overclocking
The fading is like that, you can't turn that off.. if there's no screen on/off animation.. you will have that little fade. But with no lock, it should be directly to homescreen without unlocking, kinda something you seem to want.. it doesn't have any effects..

Agreed, I am curious as to why you would want to remove the lock screen.
in order to avoid vibration, is my cause
It's possible to turn off vibration in the sound settings. Go to settings, sound, vibration and select "Never"

doesn't work for lock screen and also for four softkeys
Install "No Lock" from market.
I just find it annoying that I have to slide my finger each time i want to unlock it, I just want to press the unlock button and have it go straight to the home screen instead of going to the lock screen.

To turn of vibration of the four buttons on the bottom of your phone, just turn of Haptic Feedback in your settings.

Now on ICS, my screen turns off while driving on every app other than Navigation or Vlingo. Any way to keep the screen on while charging or running specific apps like Maps or Music?
Thanks in advance...
Before you use them go to settings and change your screen timeout. Under settings you can also change it so your screen stays on while charging. Other then that check the settings for the app. I know Pandora has a setting to keep the screen on or let it auto dim.

Where is this option in settings? Used to be there in GB, cannot find it in ICS.
Download Screen On from the market. That's what I use to keep my screen on while charging. You can set it to stay on for whatever app you want.

Several options...Screebl, Screen On, and my favorite...Tasker
Funny you ask this question. I've been struggling to keep my phone awake when on a phone call via bluetooth. I work out of my home office and use my phone with a bluetooth care speakerphone. Unfortunately the usual timeout settings don't work when in a phone call, so I couldn't simply set my screen timeout for, say 1 hour, and keep it on during a call. It would still turn off in both stock OS and CM9, which I'm currently running.
Yesterday I figured this out. I now use Tasker with the Secure Setting plugin. Secure Settings has a setting for "Wake Device" and I use the options of "Screen Bright" for Wake Type and "Manual - On" for Duration. When the call ends, I have an exit task for "Wake Device" with options of "Screen Bright" (not sure it matters) and "Manual - Off". Works very well.
But for other apps (that don't overide the system timeout settings), I simply have a Tasker profile that sets my timeout settings to 10 minutes. Could set it longer, but that's sufficient for me.
If you have Tasker, I recommend using it for this purpose...one less app needed. However, I've read good things about Screebl and Screen On, so both are worth a look.
btw -- be careful in leaving your screen on. The Amoled screens suffer from burn-in.
Just a word of advice you shouldn't leave the screen on for amoled devices. I have had this phone for about 6 months and my notification bar is slightly burned it but not to annoying since its always there. However my ex girlfriends samsung fascinate had icons burned on the screen. You could always see them. That was pretty annoying.

Another vote for Screen On. I've been using it for a while with great results.
Im trying to create a task that keeps the screen lit (doesnt lock) if certain apps, like maps for example are running. I have tried to use the task "set screen timeout" to a high value, like 5 hours, but that doesnt work. It still goes to sleep after 1 minute. Does anyone know what task could accomplish this?

I just added it to my profile with no prob. My triggers are maps and nav. Actions are plugins/secure settings/edit/set GPS on (This will turn the GPS on. You need secure settings installed and within that app you have to install settings helper with root permissions)
2Nd action is display/display timeout (I used 20 mins and it didn't dim or anything. Hope that helps. You helped me Cuz I never thought of adding that.
Anymore questions just ask

That is awesome! I would have never thought of using an additional plugin, but this does exactly what I wanted....Only one thing: After the maps is app is exited, the screen timeout remains at that setting, like 20 minutes. I dont know if that is normal. Do you know if it would be possible to have that reset to the default, like 1 minute when the app is not in use? That is assuing you also used the secure settings plugin function (wake device) to set the timeout to 20 minutes, instead of the Tasker / Display / Display Timeout task. If I use that Tasker function, it will timeout after 1 minute, regardless what I set in that function.
Thank you so much!

I did exactly what was in my post. I didn't use secure settings for timeout just under display instead of plugins. But it should automatically switch back. If you added exit actions I would try getting rid of them. I do use them though I set a 5 second delay to turn off the GPS upon exit so I can switch to navigation.

I thought you had to set an exit task to turn GPS off when you're done? That is how I set mine up. You could do the same to set the screen timeout back

Nope you don't need an exit task it'll automatically go back to its original state. Unless you want to do something specific like delay GPS off like I did.
