[Q] New Epic? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My 4g radio recently crapped out on my phone, so I have to go get a new epic. My question is, if my current phone is rooted and I have a nandroid backup, can I restore everything back to the new epic once I root it?

I just hour my new phone yesterday. Personally I backed everything up using titanium backup pro. Once I got my new phone rooted and installed my rom and my theme I was running before hand I restored just the apps in tb no data. I'm just manually setting everything up again as its a fresh phone and it deserves a fresh start.
A good idea before installing all your apps again is to see what your phone can handle as far as oc and uv. That way your not fighting the apps fc when testing your limits

Alright, thanks for the response. Sounds like a good idea.

Synergy rom

Just wanted to know if anyone else had issues with this rom endlessly force closing and rebooting until you pull battery. And if so were you able to fix or correct it?

When you flashed the ROM did you go into recovery and wipe/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache (found in advance)? You have to do that before flashing to different ROM's.
Another issue that may have caused it is if you did a restore of all your apps with Titanium Backup. I'm guessing it's the second one because that happens a lot when you overwrite apps that came with the ROM.
I prefer to redownload all my apps manually and I only use Titanium backup to restore the data portion of the app after I installed it. An example would be restoring my data for the game Angry Birds so I don't have to start the whole game all over again.
Yeah I wiped everything its not my first rom but I think it was when I did my restore from titanium backup

I'm having the same problem. If i try to restore data from a nandroid backup it either never boots or the screen stays black. I need all my backed up data so unless this get fixed i can't play with it. I was really looking forward to making that rom my daily too!
I had the same issues when i tried gengersense originally.... defiantely the titanium backup issues... i've started only using that as a good list of apps and for user data. I've used it to restore apps sometimes they don't end up working right. BTW even the synergy nightlies work well enough to be a daily... my favorite rom yet.
Plus one on the titanium.
When coming from a different rom, only restore apps and app data, kind of a hassle but dont restore settings, it jacks stuff up

Backup

Can anyone recommend a decent backup app available on the market? Ive tried sprite backup and when i restored it didnt restore half of my settings or any of my apps.
Looking for something to run a backup and when restored it looks exactly like it did before
Is your phone rooted? If it is then get Titanium, if it's not then MyBackup Pro.
Titanium is by far the best.

Im not rooted yet. want to be 100% confident how i unroot for warranty claims before i take the jump
MyBackup Pro should be fine until you root. Titanium is an investment!

Rooting does scare me more on the samsung. Rooted my HTC desire and it was easy to restore to virgin state.
Thanks for your help with the backup software options
It is all new to me too, just moved from the Nexus One.

Frigged my Epic a little

Here's my situation: experimented with removing some system apps today (mostly bloatware) on my rooted stock ec05 Epic and I decided to try getting rid of "System Updates 1.0.0". Then, I remembered I sometimes use the update prl function to reconnect my 3g if JuiceDefender doesn't kick it back on automatically after I wake the screen up, so I popped back into Titanium Backup to restore the app. It's been in the process of restoring it for the past 30 min and I'm not optomistic anymore. My question is this: is there a way to get this system app back short of ODINing back to complete stock? I lurk a lot on the Epic boards but I haven't experimented a lot with my Epic itself, so I'm ignorant when it comes to these tricks. Thanks for any help I receive.
Cheers

Try reflashing the rom and you cant backup sys apps with titanium
I reccomend you use sdx stock app remover it pretty easy and backups too and it doesnt take forever like titanium

Damn. I was afraid of that. It's funny because TB restores most of Tue other apps just fine, just not System Update and the drm files.
How about this: I located the apks for these three in my TB folder and extracted them to the sex backup folder. I'm trying to restore them via sex tool now, but I always get an error saying I'm out of space, and SD maid doesn't turn up anything I can delete to make room. If I could make room, would that method work, and if so, how should I make room?

Use SDX to backup and delete the Asphalt demo and you will have room.
I'd already deleted asphault before this, so I'm sol there.
In fact, I tried something else this morning andachived a stellar bootloop, so I Odin's and am going to use sdx. Thanks for all the help!

Get rid of the double-ended dildo. That'll free up a fair amount of space.

lol. That's actually the ever-helpful Gingerbread keyboard on my NookColor. Gotta love it.
The latest paid version of Titanium Backup allows the deletion and restoration of system apps. You should see a red Happy face, IIRC.

Restore data from Gingerbread to ICS

hey guys, im on caulks ics fb27, i made a backup before leaving gingerbread. i would like to know if i could restore the data through cwm? thakns
I would recommend not doing this. It may work but most likely will cause a bunch of app FCs.

When I go ICS back to GB i just flash back to a cwm rom and then reboot to recovery and restore from there.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
No you're best using something like titanium backup on your gingerbread rom

I only restored data on poweramp and handcent but alot of things will be buggy if you restore data
It's like unprotected sex it might cause problems later on
restoring data on user apps that are compatible with ICS shouldn't be a problem. when I first switched from gb to fb27 I accidently restored all my user apps and got bootlooped. it was because I had some apps that weren't compatible. what I ended up doing was installing my apps from the market (incompatible apps either don't show up in the market at all or wont install) then I went back to titanium and restored the data from the apps that were compatible.
I also used the label feature to mark the apps that aren't compatible with ICS so I can keep them in case I go back to gb but know not to restore them on future ICS builds.

Epic 4G Touch perfected by Calk!
I've done it, didn't have any problems I believe. But now I just rather format data, and use titanium to restore missing apps with data. That's much better way.

Best way to move app data from old phone?

Hello
I just got my note 2, moving on from the Galaxy S2 running CM 10.1. I have not rooted my phone yet but tried us my backup pro. It worked except for none my apps have my old data, such as saved games. I had problems with this before with titanium pro. Has anyone tried google backup or any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Download the app on your new phone and sign in with the same account thats linked to the old phone

I do it with Titanium backup. It works fine. Apps are fairly easy to restore with data. Big games are much more troublesome. Their data are bigger and store in different areas so no so easily backed up.
If you haven't rooted yet, try Carbon. It doesn't require you to be rooted to backup apps and data.
