Samsung Epic cannot transfer files FROM Epic to PC - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so I have my PC and Phone paired, but each time I try to send a file from my Android to my PC the transfer fails. I have my PC setup to automatically accept files from connected devices, but it instantly fails every time.
Has anyone succeeded in doing this, and any idea what I am missing...
EDIT - sorry I posted in wrong forum. Can a mod please move this to Android General

When you say "paired" are you talking about a Bluetooth file transfer? If so try a program from the market called Bluetooth File transfer. That works between my 2 Epics.
Do you BONSAI?

So does this mean that the built in BT program won't work either??? I tried BT file transfer, but didn't have luck with that the first time.

More information.
I can send files from my PC to my Android all day long, but cannot receive files.

Did you try to disconnect and repair letting the Epic scan for the computer? How about an Antivirus program or firewall? Disable all of those and try it.

How to use Bitpim with the Kin 2(tutorial)

I have seen many people asking about bitpim and the kin phones and many with no solutions or answers to their questions. It IS possible to use bitpim to view the file system with these devices. I haven't seen any tutorials on how to do it so I've decided to post a step by step guide.
The things you will need:
Kin Two or Kin TwoM(I have not been able to test this on a Kin One or OneM)
A micro usb data cable
Bitpim
Drivers for the Kin available below
http://rapidshare.com/files/439206164/KinPixiPreCentroTreo800w_etc_DiagDrivers.zip
Don't worry about fixing the error in the qcser.inf, since I have already done this for you.
I would like to thank jennydevil for reminding us that these drivers are for 32-bit not 64-bit operating systems.
Step 1
On your kin device go to the phone application. Once there dial ##77647266488 and call. It will ask you for your Service Programming Code. The default code is 000000. You will now be in a menu labeled "SETTINGS". Navigate to OTHER and then swipe to the left. Here you will see PPro, USB Pass-Through, and USB VID Stream. All of these options will be off. You will want to turn USB Pass-Through on.
Step 2
Now connect your phone to your Windows PC. Your pc will try to find a driver called "Pink CDMA diagnostics" and will fail. Fear not. Open the start menu and right click on Computer then Manage. On the menu to the far left click device manager. In other devices you will see the Pink CDMA diagnostics. Right click it and press "Update Driver Software". Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software". Browse for the location of the drivers downloaded earlier and click next. It will show a warning that the drivers are not signed. Continue anyways.
Step 3
Now you are ready to open up bitpim. Set it to the same COM as the phone and make sure in the View menu that View Filesystem is checked. Now feel free to browse through the file system of your kin.
If you run in to any problems feel free to ask questions. If you have any ideas or information to make this tutorial more useful feel free to speak your mind.
Fantastic!!
This is a great start to making our kin experience much better! Thank you, and keep up the solid work! Your friends at Microsoft Kin Forums thank you aswell! Check our sites for updates that could help, and together we can make KIN the phone it truely can be!
social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/pmxphone/threads
link to MS kin forums (gotta add http)
Thank you for putting the tutorial together (and posting the pre-fixed drivers)! In case anyone else runs into the same hiccup I did - the drivers are for 32-bit OS, not 64-bit OS. Once I used the right system, the drivers and BitPim worked like a champ.
Thanks again!
I can see filesystem
Hey thanks, I can see the filesystem, I think? It says nothing is detected when I manually set the phone. I cannot "get phone data" but can read the filesystem.
.efs_private
CGPS_ME
CGPS_PE
DMU
...etc
But what does this all mean? Can I access ringtones/sounds to edit the list? Please all I want is to add and delete ringtones! Ugh why is this so difficult. Anybody know how to do this?

No at the moment you can't do that with BitPim but you can email a ringtone to your phone.
Help in step two
Can not find driver location on Windows Vista. I can get to Windows32 file/ then to driver file but new downloaded drivers as in step two.
Thanks
Ah ok, dang. Problem is...Kin has no function to delete ringtones. So once its on, its on forever. I just can't commit to that.
Moved to KIN two forum and stickied.
Also, fix the rapidshare link, the file seems to be unavailable.

Download the drivers extract them somewhere like a folder on your desktop. Let's call the folder kindrivers. Then when you are browsing to the files you would go to C: (or the drive vista is located on)/Users/Yourusername/desktop/kindrivers
Hope that helps.
Any chance we'll be able to get 64-bit drivers soon?

Not unless someone wants to take the time to write them.
After trying it myself I am not convinced that "we" are seeing anything. It states no phone is connected. There are no signs that I see anything from the phone. Keep trying and keep posting.

I am at a lost, I did all the steps, plus the driver download. Everything went fine. I can see what port the phone is using, and have it set on bitpim. When I go to detect the phone on bitpim, it can not find the phone. Have tried on two different computers and can not get it to work. Bitpim can not find the phone, any thoughts?

Bitpim won't find the phone you have to manually set it to the correct COMM port.
I found the com port in device manager. It has been set, but it says it can not still detect phone. When I do go to settings in bitpim, I go to Verzion Wireless, Motorola, and then Kim? Is that correct, there is no Kin just Kim,so is that the same thing?

It won't detect it. Just show the file system. Just set it to other cdma.
Hey, I'm about to be forced to get the Kin TwoM (its the best phone on Verizon without a data plan). Has there been any progress on the ROM dumping front? It seems like you would know. Thanks...
Just wanted to post in here saying that I just got myself a Kin TwoM this weekend without knowing anything about it's limitations or potential. I got it working with BitPim using this tutorial, but... yeah, I have no idea what to do now. I'll certainly be watching this board for anything cool that comes of this, though!
Well I have had my Kin Twom for more then a week. I am probably going to return it, its a shame because it is not a bad little phone. Microsoft and Verizon will be the death of this thing. Know what to do about my cell phone?

[Q] Couldn't transfer file using bluetooth

I tried to send a file (apk, doc) to another device but it always said "not authorized". I could just send a picture to another device only. I could receive file from another device but I can't send it out.
Besides, when I tried to connect to another device, it error "paired but not connect" although I make it discoverable
Please help me! Thanks!
Please try to delete paired connection with the device and re-pair again.
Hope this helps.
Regards.
@jorjino2000: Thank for your help but it's not working.

I don't think u can bluetooth apk file, u need to ZIP them first and bluetooth them. all the other files should be ok.
What is the other device? I can send any file I want back and fourth between my computer and my DHD. Doesn't matter the extension. Just not a folder. When sending to my computer I have to tell the computer first to get ready to receive a file.

Cannot fail connecting SGS3 to PC (Easy Solution)

I have installed the connectivity on many machines that others have given up on!
It's EASY! Before you begin, You might also need to open my computer, click on tools, folder options, views and put checks in display contents of system folders
also put a check on show hidden files and folders. Just so that you will be able to see the necessary folders and files.
1) Un-install any other android phone connection software that might be installed on the PC.
2) Use Microsoft Update and get the PC updated to the latest available updates.
3) Install the latest Media Player available to your OS. (XP is only capable of 11) NOTHING LOWER THAN !0 WILL WORK.
The files can be downloaded from the link below.
4) Copy the 2 files in the Toshiba INF folder to your Windows/inf folder (The original ones in your system are mostly the reason for the problem)
5) Install the Kies software, and do not let it update! The newer version won't work.(Don't panic, it takes a few minutes to complete the install)
6) After you're all done, make sure you have the USB Debugging checked on your phone. (Settings/developers options)
Connect the phone to the PC using the USB cable that came with the phone.
It may take a while for the new drivers to install, and also a while to recognize the phone. Just be patient
7) If the system does not work the first time, disconnect the phone and reboot the PC.
8) Open Kies and do the Troubleshoot Connection (it has kept a record of what needs to be fixed when it tried and failed.
9) After it completes, Re connect the phone to the PC, after a while, it will make the connection!
10) After the first time it connects, you will no longer need to run the Kies software to connect to the PC.
Just connect the cable and the PC will recognize the phone..
If for some reason it loses connectivity and cannot connect again, just run the kies again and it will work like it did before.
The files you will need (except the Media Player) can be gotten here:
http://bitshare.com/files/scn15w79/Best-Way.rar.html 3/18/2013
http://www.putlocker.com/file/0D6BDDFFF311EF1C
Link added and checked as of 6/8/13
4) Copy the 2 files in the Toshiba INF folder to your Windows/inf folder (The original ones in your system are mostly the reason for the problem)
what is the windows/inf folder?
im tyring to search it but not getting any hits
thanks

I was advised to check this thread out in regards to my S2 lte having the same issue. That being said it hasn't worked. Can't see what I could be doing wrong. As far as i can tell the only thing that was even slight unclear is whether or not to delete the original files int he INF folder as the two files in the Toshiba folder have the same name as the ones in the INF folder. So I choose copy and replace. Was that incorrect?
AAARGHHHH the issue has now spread to my 10.1 Tablet. Nothing connects now.

That would be wherever YOU downloaded it to
when you click on the download link at the end of the list, you will download it. unpack the files. Then you will be able to copy them to the ini file folder in windows.
You might also need to open my computer, click on tools, folder options, views and put checks in display contents of system folders
also put a check on show hidden files and folders.
it's is not that hard to understand if you read the steps carefully. maybe you might want to print the list out, and check off each step as you complete it. Also you would be able to reference the file as you are doing the steps.
if you skip any one of the steps, or jump around, it may not work as the steps in the procedure were deliberately done to facilitate the actions that occurr behind the scenes, and still achieve the expected results.

RE-upped one and verified the other as working. 6/8/2013
this not works on my S4 ... I do all but NOT !! :crying:
Not working 29/12/2016
To establish connectivity, I would download the universal Samsung USB drivers or install Kies/SmartSwitch and use the original Samsung USB cable on a USB 2.0 port.
Can't download the files off that site, as well as I can't access my I535PP at all. I've tried everything, and at one point kies said my device wasn't supported yet it's on the list... Idk what to do...
Edit: Kies specifically says unsupported device when it goes to connect to it, and says to use smart switch but that wouldn't work either.

[Q] Problem transferring files via bluetooth

Hi,
I have this problem when trying to send files to my friend's phone via bluetooth. Everytime I select a file and send it it says 'unable to send' or 'sending failed' or something like that but my friend can send files to me and I can recieve them no problem.
To try to send files I go into settings, turn on bluetooth, make my device visible, and pair it to my friend's phone. I can pair the phones but when I try to share a file I keep gettin that error. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another step involved in the process?
Thanks!
What ROM's are the phones running?
AOSP cannot NFC share/transfer files with ICS. One uses bluetooth to transfer and the other WiFi direct, from what I've heard/read.

Mac File Transfer

For some reason I can''t use Android File Transfer with my HTC One M8 - It just doesn't appear. The phone goes into MTC mode and says USB Connected, but ATP gives me the "No android device found" error?
Anyone else had the same error or have any other mac workarounds?
I can't stand HTC Sync Manager ...
I ran into the same problem yesterday.
All I could find on the internet was a post advising to reboot with the phone plugging in. That seemed to work but it was only a temporary fix. And a review mentioning the problem , that HTC had acknowledged it and that a fix was expected in late April.

FYI to everyone.. This is a Sense Only problem. MTP works fine on GPE ROMs. As a workaround, if you want to keep Sense, use AirDroid or something similar to transfer files to your phone via WiFi.
This was already asked in Q/A subforum -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714671
Here's my response :-
You will need ROOT and app called "DriveDroid"
Download Android File Manager - http://www.android.com/filetransfer/
Open DriveDroid app, give it root access and under its settings, change USB or Permanent USB mode to "Mass Storage Android Debugging"
Connect to OSX and open the Android File Manager app on OSX... next time you wont need to open it manually, it will open everytime you connect the phone.
This might break connection to HTC Sync though
(I use the above for my iMac)

I think it's not a solution, wifi transfer is really slow with big files. Plus, I own a nexus 7 and MTP is not that great either.

I did see that, but I don't want to root it just yet.
I thought there must be a simple native solution, but it doesn't look like there is until HTC do a fix!

Make sure HTC Sync Manager is not installed at all if you want Android File Transfer to work. This has been an issue in the past, although it doesn't sound like the issue here though. I personally don't have a problem using HTC Sync Manager to transfer my files, but if course I can see why people wouldn't want to use it.
I think the reason MTP is such crap on Macs is that Microsoft owns the license for the MTP protocol, and they let everyone use it except Apple, thus making Windows a more appealing OS. Just a theory though...
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium HD app
In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54035979 I may provide a partial solution; depending on your exact need. Look for the post I sent a few minutes ago. More to come in the next days; I will test other apps, and report.
