So, is it possible to flash the radio on the DHD without plugging it into the PC and going through the flastboot? Even though its quite easy, it would be much easier to do it straight from the phone, maybe some way to do it in the boot manager?
Replies much appreciated.
Try to serach on DESIRE HD development forum.
I found out a post where it was explained well. I think.
My first root was made with DHD, a Folder that I have downloaded and extracted on sd. Than with Terminal emulator I wrote some command lines like "su" and after that other one.
The procedure is like that but if I remember well, at the and U have to write flash radio radio.img.
Naturally the radio.img has to stay resident on your SD.
I'm sorry for poor details but try to search in the radio trhead...
Thanks heaps, nice to know its possible, will be searchong around for it.
It may be possible with a modified PD98IMG.zip flashed through the bootloader. Not sure how it would be done exactly though.
I was thinking it could be done through the terminal somehow
Once your phone reboots to "flash" the radio how will terminal emulator send the image?
It has to be done via PD98IMG.zip or fastboot.
Oh true. See newbies don't think like that. Not possible to do it through recovery or something?
As far as I understand, ClockworkMod Recovery cannot access the radio.
I could attempt to modify a PD98IMG.zip for you to try. I would't recommend it though. If your radio is borked you have no phone.
Use fastboot. There's a reason why all the ROM devs say this.
It's the easiest and safest method. The radio is the one thing you do not want to get wrong.
Seriously, consider fastboot your only option. Period.

Do not complicate you buddy ... do it with FASTBOOT COMANDER, rapid, simple and sure enough ... in addition flash a baseband from the recovery does not look like a good idea be careful!!!
Thanks everyone for the replies, normally I would be using fastboot but my PC doesn't have any internet access and its not so easy.
Do you need internet access to use fastboot commands?
Must be a windows thing then. Ubuntu works without.

Definitely don't need internet access to use fastboot commands; I assume he means to download the radio. I just download it on the phone and transfer to pc but I guess that's only an option if you've got a decent data plan (although radios are only about 11mb so it shouldn't hurt too much).

Yeah I mean to download radios. Its quite a hastle in my current situation. I guess I've got to to stick with what I'm doing.

I'm a bit of a NOOB, so bear with my terminology. My phone was rooted and Nand unlocked (S=off), running Fresh 3.4. It will not accept calls so I have to take it to Sprint. I ran the latest RUU to get it unrooted, but I could not use Titanium Backup to restore my apps. I ran Universal AutoRoot.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838448 and went through what seemed to be the complete process. At the end I was left with the bootloader menu to boot into the recovery but my EVO will not go into recovery. When I try I get I get a phone with a red triangle. I have tried everything I know (I'm a bit of a NOOB), and I cannot get to recovery or Nandroid. I did a Nandroid Backup but can't get to it. My phone no longer communicates with my computer. I have just moved and need my phone to set up appointments. Please help, I'm desperate. I have posted this to multiple forums.

If you ran the RUU and unrooted you WILL NOT be able to do a nandroid restore or be able to go into recovery. Those are things that are only available with rooting.
so how can I get my phone operational, rooted or unrooted?
Run the RUU again. That should bring back to a fully operational state. You won't be rooted though but at least it will work and you can bring it in to Sprint. Just make sure that the RUU you run is the correct one for your software version.
my phone does not communicate with my computer so I can't run the RUU exe. There must be a way to unlock the phone and access to the Nandroid or at least allow the phone to communicate with the computer.

Put your phone in fastboot and see if your computer sees it. Do you have the sdk setup by any chance?

There is no way to get the phone unlocked unless you ROOT. And as far as getting it to communicate with the computer. Get into your bootloader and use the USB option, I don't remember what its called but I believe it is the top option that should get you connected to your computer then the RUU should run successfully.
the computer does not see the phone in any mode (that I know of). I know someone who does have access to sdk. what needs to be done?

If your bootloader runs then that should work, I have done it a million times when I borked my phone doing stupid stuff lol.
It was not clear the computer saw the phone in USB mode - I tried. Are you saying use the USB option. then what - use Sdk commands?
how do I know the Bootloader is working, or capable of doing the trick?. what signs. The computer still can't see the phone

Nope, you don't have to use any commands at all. Just run the RUU you want from your computer. The RUU as in the script that runs from your computer.
Try fastboot, the top option. You on windows?

There ya go, thats the option I was referring to. Sorry I was to lazy to boot into bootloader and see what it was actually called.
Once in fastboot you should see drivers install if its your first time, otherwise (if you can) cd to your android-sdk-windows/tools folder and run "fastboot devices". Your phone should show up in the output. If not then its still not seeing your phone.
If your phone is being recognized then run the RUU for your software version or higher. Sometimes running the RUU takes a few tries.
AWESOME! Thanks Yellowcard8992 and MetalHead. The RUU is running. I started from Bootloader and clicked the exe. Thanks a million! That was my first issue. How do I, or what program or app or whatever do I use, to root my phone 'enough' to use Titanium Backup. This is an invaluable app, when one has Root. I still need to take it back to sprint, and I don't want these Root / S-off issues again.

Follow what he is saying. And another thing to add is that you may need to restart your computer in order to get it to recognize your phone too, as well under fastboot to reboot the bootloader. These have both gave me the ability to run the RUU after doing that. And if you downloaded a folder that said it was the ruu thats not what we are talking about, you need to download the file we are referring to here...

As for your question about how to be able to use titanium, your going to have to use a full root method with S-OFF. There isn't really a partial way to do it, so if your using Titanium, then you have to be rooted unfortunately.
Broncos - which is the most up-to-date RUU to use as far as Sprint is concerned? The link Shipped ROMS you provided shows lots of RUUs, I thought .651.5 was newest, but I see a .651.6. There are several permuatations... which one. What about Rooting. Is there a 'good' 'easy' way? Or is there a program like Titanium that doesn't need root. Can you suggest a method? thanks again for being so prompt in your responses. I really feel lots better.

3.30 is the newest.
Root is necessary for backing up protected apps, etc. What hboot version are you? That currently dictates your rooting options.

Your fine, there for awhile I thought that you were gonna have a heart attack. Just remember when your messing with your phone to ALWAYS take deep breaths. As far as the RUU goes you should be just fine running this one: RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.30.651.3_Radio_2.15.00.09.01_NV_1.77_003_release_157088_signed.exe.
And as far as Titanium I'm not sure if there is one, it all depends on what you are trying to backup. What do you use it for?
Hello. I am rooted and have cwm but I would like to go back to factory original. I cant seem to find the step by step guide to folllow for newbs. Does anyone have or know where to get such a guide. I had no problems unlocking bootloader, rooting, etc, but cant quite seem to grasp going back to factory stock. Any help would be appreciated. I have gsm version with google build still on 4.0.1. Thank you.
Which method did you use? If you used fastboot then you should be able to use any of the tutorials on how to flash with fastboot to get back to stock.
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806
I used fastboot and everything was smooth but i am also pretty new to mac so i maybe getting lost in terminology. I have factory images from google, i have fastboot, i guess i am just looking for a morons guide to restoring for my first attempt. I am trying to get ota and i got it but cwm didnt let it take. Any links etc that would break down process step by step? I've been looking for two days and all info isnt helping me. Thank u for ur quick response.
Unzip the stock images and you should see "boot.img" "recovery.img" etc etc. You can flash these in fastboot using
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
So on and so forth. Then I believe you
Fastboot OEM lock or w.e the opposite of the unlock code is !

Guys pretend i am a moron, probably not far off. Step by step using fastboot and mac. For the first time doing this I would like a walk through so to speak so things can make sense for future newbs and myself. I really appreciate this guys.
What more do you need than the post I linked to? If you already used fastboot to to unlock the device then presumably you already know how to use it. If you actually used one of those one click scripts then I suggest you google for a tutorial on how to use the terminal to get a full understanding of what you are doing and then go back to the original script and view it in a text editor to see what it does for you.
Sorry about that last reply. In and out of coverage. Thank u guys so much. What a great place for android users.
If you look at it from my perspective you have already used fastboot to unlock the bootloader and root the device. You should be comfortable with using fastboot commands already. All you need is the correct commands on flashing it back to stock which is in the link I provided. If you are not comfortable with the commands than I don't see how you could have gotten this far already where you need to get back to stock from a custom ROM.
I'm not trying to be mean or anything but there really is no difference in the fastboot commands for windows or osx. If you are not comfortable using the terminal in osx that is why I suggested you go find a tutorial to familiarize yourself with it before trying the fastboot commands. It will teach you how to navigate the filesystem so that you don't have to be dependant on any tutorial. It will also give you a grasp of running different commands in the terminal to give you better confidence in using it.
Everything worked perfectly. I don't know why I was so freaked out. Days of research and a few minutes to do. As soon as I restored to factory and rebooted, I got the 4.0.2 OTA update. Thank you again and keep up the good work guys.
Hi. I hope you are all doing well.
I`m a new Galaxy Nexus user coming from a Galaxy S II.
It's the GSM version.
As far as see, there are major differences in rooting and installing CWM between Nexus and Galaxy S II. And it seems like that I need to unlock the bootloader first.
So can someone please tell me what requirements I need to be able to install a custom GSM ROM like the Android Revolution HD.
Thanks. Much appreciated and sorry for my bad English.
You could try searching the forums. There is some pretty good information on here in the stickies. Alternatively, there is a site called theunlockr.com where they have a guide for quickly rooting and installing CWM for the Galaxy Nexus.
Check it out.
Use my guide buddy.
Link in my sig.
You'll be up and running in an hour.
All you'll need are fastboot and perhaps ADB (along with the .imgs and .zips of course). And that's just the manual way. Mskip has created a literal one click/press solution to unlock, flash and root phones, linked here. It can install all necessary drivers as well so there isn't any need to dig around for drivers and files.

I don't understand the instantaneous pushing of these one-click-do-it-all tools to new users.
What if they need to flash stock in an emergency can't boot and recovery is borked situation?
Or maybe even need to push a .zip to their sd card...but don't have ADB set up...and can't figure it out.
Use.

I've been reading over the dev forums to see whats out there. But for there is just tooo much! I just bought my unlocked GNex. I would to put Cyanogen on there. I've always used it. I havent seen too much moment from them lately tho.
I have two questions I think, maybe more we will see!
1. whats the go to ROM for this device, I dont want to get into something that gets neglected ya know.
2. Im on a mac, What do I have to do to open the bootloader? Or do I have to get on a pc and download the tool kit and all that. Just seems like a lot these days! haha maybe I feel behind!
Anyhow yea thank you in advance an all comments appreciated!

No PC required. Don't use a toolkit. Download ADB and Fastboot for Mac (I'll add them to this post too if you want). Connect your phone via USB and put into Fastboot mode, open Terminal and point it at the ADB/Fastboot folder (I put mine in my Home folder). Use the "./fastboot oem unlock" command to unlock the bootloader.
Basic overview anyway. Plenty of step-by-step guides. Just follow them. Any Windows guide works fine, just put "./" in front of the commands because you're on OSX.
Also, this exact question has been asked ~1000000 times.
haha I bet it has! Just... there is a lot! as far as unlocking, it seems straight forward, unlock with terminal flash clockwork... Thanks! The phone seems really really basic in stock from which is good, but I need me some rom ; ) thanks again!

getting stuck loading CWM zero permission but then cant flash SU because zero recovery ...

I just received my GSM Nexus that came with 4.0.4 and hopped on to root. Half the methods warn against using the method with 4.0.4 or have replies reporting 4.0.4 problems. The other half require 3-4 downloads, running command windows, and 30-40 minutes of time and a factory reset. What gives? Every other android phone I've had in the last 3 years have all had ultra simple one-click programs. Plug it in. Click. Done.
What's so different about this nexus that requires this complicated stuff?

There's nothing complicated about it. You only think it's complicated because you are used to one-click programs -- which is the very reason I don't recommend using them: it prevents the user from learning anything, much like using a calculator before learning how to add and subtract.
Obtaining root access on a GNex is extremely simple. It consists of booting or flashing a custom recovery and using it to flash one zip file. That's it.
And the reason that a lot of one-click exploits don't work on the GNex is that it is running the latest version of Android, which has patched the security holes the the older exploits were using.

Not if all your used to is installing an app with one big button saying "click here to root". So many people don't realize that you don't need a one-click app or a toolkit to make rooting easy -- all it takes is a little bit of reading.

Toolkit is available. Doing the manual method is not the only way of doing it.
Not that I'm endorsing using a one click root because it is relatively easy,
get drivers.
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash recovery
This phone is hard to root ?
Nono...the Droid Incredible was hard to root way back. We had to rely on a race condition and precise timing to get the exploit to work. THAT was hard.
I'm very confused. Every nexus phone always had one command:
Fastboot OEM unlock
Gnex is the same as all previous nexus. What am I missing here? Just fastboot one command and you're done.

The problem here is that the OP has not done much (if any) reading on this.
Yes, I agree with you, being able to unlock your bootloader makes gaining root access easy. But what you posted: "Just fastboot one command and you're done." is not a procedure to gain root (its information like this that makes a lot of n00bs think unlocking their bootloader is the same as getting root access), and it is certainly not a way to explain it. I could be mistaken though...
I think your just use to other phones that either u Odin it or use app that would flash the phone with root on it. I remember first Android I did it was a pain took time to get timing right for first few times I thought I was missing something

If all you are used to is one click methods, then yes, it SEEMS hard. It is actually very simple.

Fastboot reboot recovery
Flash the su.zip from recovery
Reboot to a newly rooted phone
Done. And I even added at least one step that you don't HAVE to do.

But how about:

1.) A command prompt
2.) Download the SDK - it has everything you need (drivers, fastboot, adb). The image is any image you download, put whatever it is named there.
3.) Because you don't have the drivers set up properly. Download the SDK. If it doesn't auto-detect select it manually from the usb drivers folder in the SDK. If it doesn't detect select manually from a list and pick android bootloader interface.
This has to be one of the easiest devices to root, took less then 5 minutes.
using fastboot it is also the easiest one to return to stock. I had to return mine to google due to a defect and it took less then ten minutes to do.
The OP just needs to read rather than looking to be spoon fed.
In each development section there are instructions in a sticky post.
Because everyone who wrote a procedure assumes people are not noobs so they skip steps.
I am a noob with my phone and it took me hours of reading various procedures and piecing them together to get my phone rooted
