[Q] App/Widget for activation GPS directly - Galaxy S I9000 Themes and Apps

Hi community,
is there an app or a widget for activation the GPS directly?
Since I have been on Gingerbread the Exctended Controls and the other widget cannot activate GPS directly. There only comes the android menu where I can check the box to activate the GPS.
Under Froyo it functioned perfectly, under GB it isn't possible anymore :-(
I tried an older version of EC, it doesn't run under GB. The new one opens the menu. It seems to be only a shortcut :-(
Or is it a security policy in GB? Is there are workaround?
How can I solve my problem?
Thx for answers!

Are there any widget with that functionality which run under gingerbread?
I tried Extended Controls, SwitchPro, EasySwitch, Widetsoid. Always the same result
Furthermore I tried the same widgets on Froyo and it functions. So I think it might be caused by the Gingerbread.
Does anybody know how to change the settings/policies/etc. to reach the aim?
Thx

In Statusbar you have GPS icon, pres that and you make on (green) or off (gray) GPS activity...You dont need any 3th apk for that.
Regards

You are right...
But it is not only the GPS which doesn't function anymore. The "data mode" for example has the same effect.
So I think it would be interesting to know what is the reason for this behaviour and how to change it.

WM6.5 ROM under development, some help needed.

Hi all!
I'm trying to make a ROM mainly for myself based on tomme45i's kitchen. I've gone pretty far with it, and I'll maybe publish it if anyone interested.
BUT now I'm having some problems with the ROM.
1. I've played with the settings of the clock/battery display on the tray. On other ROMs if I tapped on the battery, it opened the Power Settings window. Here I can't manage it. Same problem, if the clock is shown instead of the battery. Also as you can see, the battery icon is placed a little too close to the edge. Any ideas where can I adjust it?
2. Start menu. Exactly my problem is that the icons are not highlighted, so if I'm using the jog wheel for scrolling, I can't see which icon is selected (for better explanation see screenshot).
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
S100200
One of them fixed
Okay, I've managed to fix the Start Menu issue, a file was missing.
But the battery/clock tap-thing is still a question.
it's getting worse
Okay. I've managed some things to work, but now nothing happens if I tap on the tray icons. Only the start menu and the X-button works...
Something went wrong, but I can't find it...
Can someone help me with these issues?
Getting closer.
Okay, tray icon problem solved, the HTC X-button 1.5 was the problem. I uninstalled it, now the icons work normally.
BUT:
I've tried HTC Task Manager 2.0 ripped from a Hermes ROM, and it doesn't work at all.
Any ideas,why?

[Q] Connectivity bar?

I don't quite know what the thing is called. That's basically my question:
Can the pull-down connectivity bar at the top that allows you to quickly turn on or off wifi, Bluetooth and GPS as well as switch between vibration and ring tone be installed on a Sense ROM?
I've encountered it on CyanogenMod 6.1.1 and rather liked it. Unfortunately, I prefer some of the HTC Sense functionality, so I switched back to the stock ROM (after learning how to uninstall uninstallable apps, that is ). But the stock does not have this bar. Where it would normaly be, there is only my network provider's name and a delete button for the messages.
How do I get this functionality back?
Regards and thank you,
it's built into the framework of a rom. If you want the feature then I suggest you install a rom with it or just use the power widget thing
Seriously? The only option is a widget? That's sad.
Afraid so, the widget notification bar thing is one of the tweaks and features Cyanogen put in CM. It is quite handy.
Back when I had my Evo there were devs making flashable zips for notification pull down controls for this so I'd assume they're around for the G2 as well. On the Evo it required a Deodexed ROM though so you might as well just flash one that already has em in it at that rate.
Hmmm... I'm just warming up to the Virtuous ROM so I don't think using Cyanogen again will be an option.
Ah, what the heck, whether I pull down the menu or scroll to the right once doesn't matter much, does it .
Thanks for the replies .

Question about rom features

I'm currently using Cyanogen Mod because of the customizable notifcation power widgets. It lets you choose the order they appear in, how many you want, and it's scrollable. I also like that it's bluetooth isnt totally broken, and doesnt give me any problems with my headphones. It also allows access to android's built in wifi tether, which I require because I have a xoom. The notification widgets have a button to turn on the tether quickly.
However, I love and would really like to have the newer HTC music, camera, and clock apps. I know I cant install these on a non sense rom.
So, the question is, is there a sense 2.1+ rom, with gingerbread, that has a non broken bluetooth, and a similar set up for the notification widgets with the tether option.
All I've tried is Mikz, and that's how I found out about the new HTC apps. Thanks in advance.
Try Virus's ace port. It's quite stable. I don't know about bluetooth tho as I never tried it.

Hiding the System Bar

So I am trying to figure out a way to hide the main menu bar (from SystemUI) on my G9 101. I am running ICS 4.0.4 rooted.
I noticed that the startup wizard is able to control the availablity of the home button and recent apps button. The back button is still visible, but it seems like the wizard takes control of what it does.
So I disasembled settings.apk and settings.odex to try and figure out how this is done. It seems like a call to:
Code:
view.setSystemUiVisibility(20905984);
is the code that makes this work. I inserted that into my application, but did not get the same result. Any body have any ideas as to how I can make this work in my application? Is there a way to grant the same capabilities to my code that the settings.apk has? Do I need to install my application in some other location?
Any other ideas how I can use the setup wizard as some way to launch my application without having the systemui elements?
Thanks!
Now that the source is out - does this mean I (or someone) will be able to do this more easily?
Thanks
ICS source code is out for quite some time. BUT this doesn't include Archos specific changes (like 3G stick support etc)

[Q] Location not showing on home screen

Strange problem. I can't find a way to put my GPS location on my home screen. It used to work flawlessly. But now it doesn't. I checked my GPS settings and they work fine. Even turn-by-turn Navigation works fine. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing? It used to change if I went into another area (across the bridge into another state). Is there some secret? It seems it hasn't worked since I started flashing different custom ROMs. Could this be my problem? I really don't think this is the problem, but I really want this to start working. Anyone?

I guess that would depend on what rom you are on now and what widget you were using to get the location to display to begin with (I'm assuming you're referring to it working with a stock ROM?).
Please tell us first what you were using when you were able to use it.

tdunham, I'm sure I was on some type of rooted stock ROM. Since then I've used Blu Kuban, Mijjah's Goodness and a few other custom ROM's. I've usually used the digital clock, along with a Beautiful Widgets weather widget. I think it was about this time I lost my location display. Are there only certain weather widgets that display your location?

Yes, it's probably that simple . I seem to recall a weather widget that would show the location. It might have been beautiful widgets. I haven't used that one in a while. I'm using Accuweather right now and it shows my location too but if I want it to change, I have to go into settings and 'Enable Current Location' (right now mine is static, I just entered my zipcode when I set it up). I'm sure it's the same for other weather widgets too.
DO you have the options checked under the location menu. You have to do this for each rom since they are unchecked by default (3 options). I never leave gps checked but I do check the other two options in ics roms and it works fine.
