Just bought a new microSDHC card & I decided to format it in Windows. Then I decided to see if Transcend had a formatting tool so I tried it and got better results, next I found the SD Association had their own tool SD Formatter...
Benchmarked with ATTO Disk Benchmark
Windows 7 formatted then Transcend Autoformat Tool

SD Formatter
awe hell. after that apparent fluke i can't reproduce the results. Well this is dumb. removed some crap from the original post.
Unlucky, So the conclusion being... It doesn't matter what you use to format your SD?

It's best to use the SD associations formatter if you need it formatted fat32 at 32kb cluster size, which is how SD cards are built to be formatted. Other apps probably can do just as good job, but you know the SD assoc app will do it perfectly. Using other apps or windows may format it similar, and speed will be the same, but since those formatters are made specifically for sd cards, tiny differences can cause problems with compatibilty.
To format anything, it's best to not use generic formatter and use app written specifically for media.
eh, not worth.
please disregard this thread in its entirety. this was a dumb thread I started because I thought I was on to something smart. It doesn't matter at all how you format your card. If anything, these graphs can show you how my Transcend SD card performs
Thus spake zarasthustra lol

so i was looking in the forums all day about microsdhc cards and the right speed to use with compcache. Went to frys planning to settle with a class4 because I dont feel like ordering online and I found this to my surprise. The box clearly has the class4 in a circle on the front. I had to dig for this sucker because I found a open package "returned" with a class6 card in it. Most of memory sticks were actually class4 inside the correct packaging and a few were class6 like mine. Picked it up for 25 bucks at frys.

by the way I was wondering if all I have to do is run RAv1.2.0 and do the fat32+ext2+swap to get compcache scrip to run correct?
the pda's can't keep up with the faster sd cards though

That's true because my 16GB class 2 card has almost the exact same performance and my 16GB class 6 card. The difference is more noticeable on the pc though.

really? I been reading all over the compcache threads that G1 and the mytouch can read up to class 6 speeds. Everyone recommends class6?
I'm using a Tilt so maybe that's why but a higher class IS better.
I'm sorry if this was answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find a thread related to this....
My TP2 was acting up, so I soft reset. After Sense loaded, I got a message "Do you want to format this storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card". Now the phone is not reading a card anywhere.
Is there anything I can do to make it readable? I figure the easiest solution is put the card into my computer, copy all the files, put the card back in the phone and format it, and then put the files back on the card. However, I don't have a miniSD adapter, and I won't be able to get one til tomorrow at the soonest, and I kind of need this taken care of today. Any suggestions? I would appreciate it. Thank you.
yeah best bet would be to put it in a memory card reader and access it through your pc. probably got corrupt somehow. there are some recovery apps out there to get the most of the corrupt data out.
Have you tried plugging your device into your pc and setting it in disk drive mode to see if you can access your memory card?
also theres a really cool microsd usb card reader on amazon for $3.99 +shipping. I ordered one and it came in a couple days, its pretty slick. check it out here
good luck, oh and heres what the memory card reader looks like, comes in white or black.

I just found out that my EVO reads my sd card at a slower speed than writing it. Below is a snapshot I took when using SD card test reader on the phone. I have similar results (reading slower than writing speeds) on 3 of the micro sd cards I tested. This is very evident when I tried to copy a few backup roms I made to my computer. 2 gb of data took roughly 35 minutes to complete.
When I took the sd card out of the phone and hook it up to my laptop I can transfer the same 2gb of roms in just 2 minutes (17 MB speed).
What could be going on with the phone?

Weird. My phone/SD card have the opposite 'problem:' Read @ 3MB/s, write @ 2 MB/s. Class 2 SD Card.
Yeah I called both HTC and Sprint and they couldn't figure out what is the problem. I should get a replacement but I'm afraid a new phone will be android 2.2 already and I can't root anymore.
The EVO definitely acts a bit strangely as a disk drive, look at the following results I got with the same Polaroid 16gb Class 2 card I got from Fry's. The left image is through an micro to regular SD card adapter through my laptop, the right image is with the micro sd mounted through my EVO as a disk drive.
The SD speet test app on my phone netted 5mb read/5mb write
Nevermind, cheap card?
Sent from my phone.
Hello,
is there a way, that dailyme is running on the TP2?
The problem is, that there is no SD-Card avalible.

Not sure what app that is, but in my experience if an app cannot see the SD card you should just format it with the HP Tool. Full format, FAT32.
THX,
i tested it with a 8 GB microSD an it works fine.
I think the 8 GB Card is formated in the same way like my 32 GB Card.
Did anyone know, if the problem is the 32 GB Card? Can the Android Port work with the size?
My PC run on USB 1.1 and so a test with copy the data take around 1 1/2 days.

Is your 32GB card class 6 or 10? Because those cards are known to not work well with Android. Basically the higher the class the card, the more problems it causes. Class 4 seems about perfect, which is what my 8gb card is - never had a problem.
I have a Transcend 32GB card, there is no Information on the card which class it is. How can i find the class?
Is the 32GB card problem on all Android devices or only on the TP2 Port?
Is there a chance top run the card?

there's no number with a circle on it? it should look like this (in this case, its a class 2):

p.s. i have a sandisk 32gb microsdhc C2, and it runs @ 5.5mb/s write
p.p.s. lexar just came out with a C10 32gb microsdhc, $150 - any takers?
Hi, I'm hearkenoath and I have to bear with a Galaxy Fame GT-6810L ;P Not complaining so much recently though.
I partitioned mi 32 GB SD class 4 Card Adata (if the brand helps) using Mini Tool Partition Wizard Home Edition like sayhellotwoheaven posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2126363 I followed his steps and numbers. Even though I knoe that partitions should be only 20% of the total space.
And I know, I know: maybe our kernel doesn't support EXT4. I'm using Corsifame ROM from this forum but the perfomance was pushing me to smash my device against the wall. So I was interested in swapping virtual memory AND I KNOW, VM has a reduced number of R/W cycles and potentially can fry my SD/internal storage.
I used this helpful thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50143050&postcount=101&nocache=1&z=8882311745546758 and set it up to full ZRAM usage and Swap partition (since the other options don't worked for me)
The result was superb, so much better that before or with the 32 GB card not partitioned but the space ended in 9.99 GB only readable trough the phone and with the Kies installed.
My problem is this: the SD card cant mount, obviuosly I can't flash zips from CWM (only using /sdcard0) or backup and that stuff. I tried umount /storage/extSdCard/ and mount/ from CWM. Also can't cd to that directory (but I feel like never can't)
What can I do?
My root was with VRoot if helps. I appreciate all input.
P.S. I followed this tutorial and got Backtrack 5 running in our humble device. I always thought that my device would freeze
