[Q] OTA 405.5 Fails Status 7 - Desire General

Desire bought from eBay. No branding at boot.
Came with 2.29.405.2 and OTA .5 is available on aiutomatic check.
Starts to work then after 1/4 green progress bar fails with £Error in /sdcard/download/OTA..... (Status 7) and leaves me at Warning triangle.
Tried factory reset.
Tried formating SD
Tried different SD.
Checked archive on laptop.
Why is this happening - perhaps a dodgy ROM image on the phone?
Pointers most welcome....
Thanks

You could just use an ruu instead. Will wipe and correct everything
Sent from CM7

I agree - RUU it would probably be best

Very Unusual Problem - Can you help??? Please

Hello folks,
First of all can I say what a great site this is and how many super and generous people there are who help out twits like me every day!
I have rooted and flashed my phone many, many times, so I am not a Noob as such, though I am stuck on this one....
Here's my issue......
Got phone back from HTC repair - New motherboard - Worked fine.
HBOOT 0.93
I rooted phone using Unrevoked version 3
Then I installed LeeDroid 2.2d - latest version from XDA developers.
Phone worked fine for a few days.
I downloaded a few apps and synced calendars etc.
Then this morning - I unplugged my charger from the phone and Bang.....Phone seems to be not working, my Calendars are blank, so I decided to reboot phone.....................
Now I am unable to get past the HTC White Logo screen. AND I cannot access Recovery mode or Clockworkmod.
Though I can get to the Hboot screen by holding the down key and power.
Cannot boot into recovery though even from this menu.
The initial Recovery bit - the green writing that pops up when the phone looks at the recovery image, seems to be saying something like wrong image - Below.
SD Checking...
Loading...[PB99DIAG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99DIAG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.zip]
No Image!
Loading...[PB99IMG.nhh]
No Image or Wrong Image!
I have rebooted several times, but no good.
I have plugged my Desire in to PC and gone into Fastboot mode and then tried to install the Stock HTC RUU by running the exe from my computer.
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed
However I just get either error 131 or Error 140 depending on which SD card I put into the phone..........
This has got me completely stumped? Am I bricked completely or is there a way around this?
Any ideas?
HELP!!!!!!!! - I thought I was good at this!
Download a PB99IMG.zip from www.shipped-roms.com
put it into the root of your sdcard and it should reflash without a problem.
Well i don't know why both your recovery and system has got corrupted without you doing a thing to it. It usually only happens if you messed something up.. Not saying you have, but now would be the time to tell
Otherwise everything you say is exactly what i would expect your phone to do.
First of all the green writing in hboot is not a look at the recovery but a check to see, if you have put a zip file with that name on the sd-card. This is just an alternative to using the ruu.exe
Second of all the stock rom you try to flash may contain an older hboot version og something similar, which is just giving you the error because you are not allowed to downgrade to an earlier software/hboot version. Try the newest one instead with your goldcard in the phone of cause.
And finally no you are not even close to a brick here seriously some people should take a deep breath and read through the forum(not specifically you but people in general. There is just too many topics with people screaming heeelp i have no idea what i did to my phone). Theres plenty of solutions, and it is quite hard to actually brick the phone. Unless you actually tried pulling the battery while flashing a hboot or radio update almost any other software problems are easily solved, because of the way this system is build.
edit: and if you try the above suggested by h3llb3nd4. You should be aware that your phone model on that page is bravo and not desire, which is the cdma desire. So if your phone has a sim card you should pick bravo. You still have to choose one with a similar or newer software and hboot version than your current.
Hi guys,
The latest with the saga is.
I managed to get the latest Froyo RUU to run and install successfully on my phone.
However - Phone still will not get past the HTC white screen, it just sticks there.
I am pretty much out of ideas now?
h3llb3nd4, thank you for your advice, I will give this a go, but as I cannot access any menu's to do a reflash I'm not sure I understand how this can help me? - Not that I'm saying it won't, it's probably my lack of knowledge.
Otherwise, I have to say this phone seems to be a big trouble. I mean even a successful RUU install and still no reboot? Weird
Thanks so much for your help and advice...keep those ideas coming

Well I tried this, and placed the zip file onto the root of SDCard. However then I restarted phone and it simply stuck at the HTC screen as before?
Do I need to do anything else? - I cannot access recovery to install from zip card.
Do I need to unzip the zip file? or maybe rename it?
Also I am now installed with the latest froyo Bravo RUU Rom 2.10, so the image file that is for 1.21 may not be right for this?
Help........
Put PB99IMG.zip on to the root of your SD card. Then boot into the bootloader (power on with vol down held down).
The bootloader will automatically scan the SD card root for an update file and install it. That should get your back to running stock again.

Hi Bigstoo,
Sooo close, it actually started reading the PB99IMG.Zip file. However it failed to update sadly.
The error message was "update fail"
Could this be that the ROM image that is on the phone is a higher one than this PB99IMG file? Is there one that is suitable for use with
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed
Thanks though! - Nearly there maybe..............

Right I have found the correct PB99IMG file for my current stock Rom.
The phone found it in Bootlaoder and went right through the installation process correctly and successfully......................
Outcome - Phone still not working at stuck at the HTC White screen.
I would say it's now looking like hardware issue to me? I cannot think of anything else that might get this bloody phone to work again...............
Sheeeesh

[Q] Please, please helpme urgently!

I have a HTC desire that I rooted a while ago with Unrevoked3. I did this so I could run Titanium backup and have a backup of all my apps and data.
Yesterday, I received a notifiction from my operator (Meteor in Ireland) that there was an update so I clicked on install.
It didn't install as the recovery told me the signature couldn't be verified (I assumed because I had rooted it) so I went into recovery, turned off signature verification and selected the ip frm the SD card o update.
The phone then proceeded to constantly reboot on th green letering HT screen with quietly brilliant under it. I lef it hour and even remoed the battery for an hour and tried again but no better.
I tried to reboot into recovery but get a picture of a phone with a red exclamaion mak in a triangle.
So, I can't boot my phone and I can't get into recovery.
Help!!!!!!
This is because you can't apply an OTA update to a rooted phone without ****ing things up - this is about the 10000000000000000000000000000000th thread on this so it's well documented
Only way around it is to manually flash the OTA ZIP file again (but it still might not work 100%) or get the RUU for your operator, if available, and flash it and start from scratch
Thanks for your speedy & not so subtle reply - guess I deserved that!
Could you point me to a thread of how to go about doing that without recovery?
Without knowing the ROM version you were on originally out the box/are on now there's not a lot that can be done. I can't say I've ever seen an RUU from your operator so it might be like the Orange users where one simply hasn't been leaked. I also don't know what the OTA file name is. If I did I could at least get a link to manually download it. There's a chance it's still on your SD card
If you boot into recovery is it the stock Android one?
I can't boot into recovery - I get picture of phone with red exclamation mark on it.
Meteor are an Irish operator. Verys mall so I am amazed they produce their own customized roms!
At the red ! hold volume up and press power - this will get you into the stock Recovery...not that it helps you!
You might need to try and make a gold card and flash a stock WWE ROM instead
I downloaded this exe RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00. 32U_5.11.05.27_release
and ran it on the PC - my phone is now back up and running!
Many thanks.
If you ran that without a gold card then you're not branded - which a good thing!!

HTC Evo 4G potential brick?

Had simple rooted stock stuff, then decided to unroot it just because I didn't get much benefit from it, and tried to flash an unrooted stock ROM, and now it's only booting into the HTC error screen with 4 caution corner arrows. I've heard that I may have to use a RUU .exe, but whenever i attempt to use one, I either get a USB Connection Error, or it says halfway through preparing itself that the download may be corrupted and to redownload, which I've done many times.
Any ideas?
Also, when I unplug it when it's on the htc error screen, it brings up the white recovery screen. It says:
Supersonic EVT3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-2.10.0001
and the only option to select is "RUU," and pressing that does nothing.
EDIT:
The Error I get when it gets to about 75% is "ERROR [110]: FILE OPEN ERROR
The ROM Update Utility cannot open the requested files or the files are damaged. The RUU cannot continue with the update. Please get a complete RUU package and try again." It gets through updating the HBOOT, RADIO, etc, so I have noo idea what the issue could be.
Where have you gotten this RUU? If you can, go download it from an official download because it might be a bad download you are using.

It is your decision but you could just leave it rooted stock and go on. that will not hurt your phone and it will be the same IMO to just unrooting it. At least you can delete apps you do not want.
Ok lets see, since you still have S-Off I would flash a recovery from here
Then flash Sprint Lovers Rom from here and you will be stock with the ability to at least delete apps if needed. I know you don't see a benefit but believe me there are quite a few and this way incase you change your mind in the future it will be ok..
I think you are ok with the S-off right now but you just need to flash a recovery of your choice. If you need any more help PM me
UNROOTING OPTIONS
Edit: Actually here is one stop shopping website - It has it all right here
Other option is here
Have you tried flashing a PC36IMG of the RUU through hboot? You're still s-off, so if you can flash through the bootloader then you have more options. Try that first, hopefully it will work.

virgin mobile HTC desire 816 not updating

Hey guys I'm having trouble updating my HTC desire. IM currently running 1.13 and when i click on HTC software update it'll bring up 1.50 and start downloading. Well after it's done downloading I click on install and it restarts my phone and starts installing. Well about %20 of the way on the progress bar the logo changes on the screen and shows a red phone with a triangle in the middle with an exclamation mark. Well i tried restarting the phone and I even went into recovery and tried clearing the cache. Well that didn't work so i decided to go into recovery from the installation screen and it showed an error that said something about assert failed /system/build.prop does anybody have any idea why this is happening? My phone isn't rooted or anything.
This is the full error message:
assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.aa.taskid") == "385463" || file_getprop ("/system/build.prop", "ro.aa.taskid") == "398306"
Installation aborted.
Write host_mode:0 done
might be
It may be a corrupted download I am not 100% sure what directory it downloads it to but you will need to find and delete it and try redownloading
What Phone Model (a5) do you have????

Verizon Software repair tool FAILED to complete the RUU

Hi, I'm still Locked S-ON.
I was having some issues post-update so I did a reset and it didn't help.
I attached to my laptop and use the HTC Sync Manager. That brings up the Verizon software tool.
It downloaded a 2.3 GB RUU and sent my phone through a series of flashes and re-boots.
It hangs at 19% and leaves my phone with the White on black HTC with the red security warning text.
I tried deleting the RUU and re-downloading but same result.
Any advice?
Nevermind, I got it to complete after another settings reset. Possibly related to my phone being encrypted?
