Just got my HTC Desire today and everything is working fine apart from the android market. I have 3 problems:
1) I don't have the paid apps tab only top free and just in. I can see paid apps within the just in section, but not top paid apps.
2) When I clock on the install button I get a blank screen with just the background gui showing for at least 10-20 seconds before the confirmation screen that shows what permissions the app needs is finally shown.
3) Apps install correctly however they never get removed from the "currently downloading" list in the Downloads section of the android market.
I got the phone through virgin mobile and I am currently using a t-mobile sim in it. I have tried doing a factory reset which didn't solve the problem.
Anyone had any similar issues?
Liam
Please search before posting.
Your problems will be solved by removing t-mobile content lock. It can be done through their website or by calling customer service.
One problem will remain though: so far no one can see copy-protected apps because market is not recognizing our build number. It should be solved soon though.
Hi,
The phone actually came from Virgin Mobile, but for the moment I am using my old T-Mobile sim which used to be in my G1 which didn't have any problems with the market. I seem to remember de-activating the content lock when I used the browser for the first time on my g1.
I just checked on my t-mobile account details and I definitely have the content lock turned off.
I still have the same problem with the market, i.e. I get about 20 seconds of blank screen after clicking install before the permission confirmation details come up.
And after an app is installed it still shows in the download section as installing with the grey progress bar and doesn't disappear unless I go to the settings/Applications and clear the cache in download manager, market and force close the market app.
Anyone have any similar problems? I have done a full factory reset three times, still the same problems.
Liam
I just got mine, its a open one unbranded. I can neither connect to gtalk or download apps, both hang. I have read similar problems for the Droid, but the fixes dont work for me.
Also can you connect the device to the internet via the PC, like windows mobile ?
That's odd. My problems were solved by removing content lock.
Does the same thing happen on WiFi? Did you try to restart the device?
Regarding PC to phone tethering, it's not possible over USB. There are guides on how to do it over WiFi though.
Its the same for me : confirmed that content lock is off.
and still have this problem.
On Tmobile, upgraded from G1, same sim.
I get this on wifi or not.
If I restart the device, the Market Place states its installed correctly (like it should do). But installing another shows the same problem.
I've done a Factory Reset via the menu and that did solve it.
And I've just phoned tmo tech support, and they recommend resetting via fastboot.
I'll give that a go later, and post back the results.
Any other ideas?
Its really weird. Yesterday at a different wifi location it worked fine. But again its not working in work. I assume then the downloads are being blocked by the service provider, or the router.
Thats really crap you cannot connect to the internet via the USB cable like in windows mobile. I cant get my data service working either - so in work I have to work.
ok, I did a clear storage from the fastboot menu, I assumed that what he meant, had no effect.
but figured it out!!!!!!
its my gmail/Google account thats the problem! if I reset the phone and created a new account it works fine. log back in as me, bang. back as previously created new account, fine.
1. is this the same for other people?
2. the people who are having this problem, are you all previous Android users?
3. if so, what phone? me was G1.
I will have to raise a bug with android or google on this.
I now also have to ring back tmo and tell them this info, as I'm guessing by his language he want to take the phone back in.

Beware that while most apps like gmail, calendar, contacts, etc work using port 80 (HTTP), both google talk and android market use different ports.
In my school network I can't connect to gtalk or download from market because they block those ports on the firewall.
I previously had a g1 and think the problems I was having had something to do with my gmail account but it seemed to resolve itself after several factory resets.
I am not convinced that the factory reset was what fixed it, I just think it needed a bit of time to sort itself out.
I wonder if having a new device with the same gmail account causes the issue and it takes a while to recognise the new device. though that doesn't really explain the behaviour I was seeing.

I cannot find a way around this.
My google account shows the slowness and install problems, a test/temp/dummy/other account does not, I do not want to change my email address!
So I have emailed Google, see where that gets me.
Anyone know/think-of any other routes?

I am having problems with the Market on my new Desire. I previously had a G1.
1. When I select Downloads tab, it takes about 10 seconds before the loading text is displayed.
2. When selecting something to install, the 1st info page with the install button is displayed but with no info/text/etc, ie only the install button, again about a 10sec wait and the info shows fine.
3. When selecting install, the security confirm page is displayed but is blank, no text or buttons, another 10secs and its displayed.
4. If I actually go to install an app, it correctly redirects me back to the last market list page. From there if I go to Downloads, after the 10sec wait, it always states "installing", even when its finished, and pushed a notification up.
I can use the app, but the market always states installing. Even hours after. These all queue up and never clear.
Only rebooting the phone clears the installing app, and correctly marks them as installed.
5. Uninstalling app cannot be completed at all. I select uninstall, and it pops up the confirmation box, but then displays a blank page, and after the 10 or so seconds, displays the "Uninstalling application" with progress bar, but never completes. Again only a reboot corrects this.
All this occurs for any app.
I have done many Factory Resets from software, and Clear Storage from Fastboot.
Interestingly, my phone works corrected with a new account, I reset the phone and instead of signing in with my usual account, I created a new one, this worked very fast and correctly. Signing back in with my normal account again showed the same problems.

same problem here, gone from a G1 to HTC desire not tryed to sign up with a new account simply becasue i had the xxxx.xxxgmail mail now for over 18 months and rely on it.
All I know is that the day after I got my Desire, probably about 24 hours after first turning it on (and after 4 factory resets which may have nothing to do with it) I was installing an app, which had the same problems i.e. delayed permissions screen, remaining in the download screen even after being installed succesfully, then a few minutes later I went to install another app and it was fine, no delay, suddenly I had the Top Paid apps tab and apps did not remain in the download section as still downloading. It has been fine ever since.
It seems that all of us who have this problem have had G1s previously so it must be something to do with that.
I experienced this issue with my new desire but not one with older rom. Both from T-Mobile. The funny thing was first day it was running pretty slow, could not view paid apps either but now it is much faster as it should be and paid apps have appeared too. So it's working brilliantly.
i have market problems too... i cant see many market apps, including paid apps which i bought..
it's a free desire with vodafone spain sim.

That's a different issue, apparently Google have not yet added the HTC Desires "fingerprint" to some kind of database that enables access to apps with copy protection, this is why some apps you have previously purchased won't show up.
Apparently this happens with all new handsets, though why Google don't get this resolved before the phones release I don't know, as it doesn't give a great experience to the end user (HTC say they sent the fingerprint well before the phone was released but google haven't processed it yet).
Hopefully this should be resolved soon. Until then I have had to extract a few of my more regularly used protected apps from my G1 with root.
But it happens to me with free apps too.

Any application developer can choose to use copy protection, some free apps choose to do that.
up until 2 weeks ago my Desire was working perfectly. In the mean time I have travelled from the UK to Greece where I disabled the data roaming (I mention this as this is the only thing that has changed in the settings). On returning to the UK I now cannot download any new apps, or update any existing ones from the Android Market.
All that happens is I get a graphic which shows the commencement of the download, no progress bar movement and not actual download, irrespective of how long I leave the download going.
I have tried on wi-fi and over 3G, no luck.
When I switch the phone on I get an error message stating that it cannot verify the google talk account - which may be connected to the problem, however I cannot find any setting or app in the phone which has anything to do with the google talk app. The HTC desire online guide tells me how to access the 'talk' app, but following the very simple instructions does not reveal the app on the phone.
Anyone else experiencing the same problem or who has a solution?

Hi,
From this morning when I try to open the Market it will say loading for about a minute then come back with a "network error has occurred" like it cannot connect and then it will close the Market when I select 'cancel'
Tried the following to try fix it / determine where the problem is...
- reboot
- Have 3G / WIFI connectivity to browse etc so it is not connectivity.
- Factory / data / ext wipe
- Tried diff rom's Leedroid / Open Desire
- I am based in South Africa so thought it might be a Market enabler issue - tried that
- Then thought it might be my Google account so setup another one, logged in but got the same error!
- Formated the SD card
None of this has helped
Any more idea's...any suggestions will be hugely welcomed.
Russ
Dont worry its a worldwide event. Its like all planets alligned or something to take Android market down for almost everyone.

Still cannot see some installed apps in the Downloads. Recently updated ones.
Got an issue with the market it starts but when I go to my apps or downloads it gives a server error and cancels.
I am using the latest market update which has been working OK but the last 2 days when I go to "My Apps" to check for updates I get the following:
"A Server error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to previous screen"
Anybody else seen this, tried rebooting several times makes no difference, holding off doing a hard reset too many apps installed would have to reinstall them all again.
Not being able to backup like winmobile a real pain in the ass. I know I can use Mybackup Pro but it never seems to get the restore correct there always some none functional apps after the restore

TL;DR : Use Market Access and if Google won't accept your credit card due to the address not being from a "supported billing country", edit the card details in Google Wallet and use a US address. Thanks to Anomaly for sharing his method.
I cannot find a way to purchase apps on ICS. The Market Enabler method does not work, neither does it's Fake On Boot feature. But regardless, even if the Market is successfully spoofed by Market Enabler, I cannot get past the "Accept and Buy" page. I'm always hit with something like "The item could not be found" or "Your country does not support purchases". Market Enabler method used to work fine on Gingerbread.
Is there another way you guys in non-supported countries purchase apps? This is currently my biggest problem with ICS and no one seems to have any fixes.
Logcat of the problem: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vF6X4L99u7Yug96pZ0-iWLkAZ81SIg2zKiPDd_rQsFs/edit
try Getjar and or Appbrain, see if that helps.
I emailed the devs of the market enabler app, and they seemed to think I didn't know what I was doing when I told them it didn't work with the GN. Maybe someone else will have some luck, I would love to have access to the TMO-USA shop.
I did the same thing but, got no reply. I will try again. I'm pretty sure it's an ICS issue. Google has changed something. Market Enabler worked fine on Gingerbread but, I could never purchase apps when I used it with ICS on my Nexus S.

Which Market Enabler did you use? The one by "rac" or the one by "Artou". Artou's won't even take root for me. rac's works fine and displays paid apps but, I can't purchase them.
Try MarketAccess, works great for me.
There is something strange with ME now, set on boot definitely does not work on ICS and most of the time doesn't work otherwise. I will try wiping data in the Market app and rebooting and 1 time in 10 it will stick and GoogleMaps will show up for me...but most of the time it doesn't work.
You need a USA card to purchase (which I have) but when not working not even free apps will show up.

MarketAccess 1.0.6 have been setting US provider at every boot for me.
Market Enabler 1.8.1 from For2w does not, but it works when I set it manually.
And for the last 3 years or so, I have never had to use a US card, except for buying and renting music and movies.
Are you on a Galaxy Nexus? What ROM? What market version? Are you in the US?

Hmm, can't seem to find Market Access.
It's messed up. I've pulled out my SIM, spoofed it to Verizon, set up a US proxy, Cleared Market data and the Market still tells me purchases are not available in my country! This Market 3.4.4

Didn't work until I set it for Emulate on Boot. Make sure your data APN is setup and working before you reboot and you should be ok, changing it with market spoofing enabled will not work. If your data gets messed up you have to disable emulate on boot, reboot, reset your APN settings, and go again.

Lol, this is ridiculous. My phone says it cannot open the file! This has never happened before! And sideloading other apps is working fine!
Anyway, I'm using Market Unlocker which seems to have the same options plus it let's you proxy the Market through a US proxy of your choosing (Nicer UI too!) https://market.android.com/details?id=com.evanhe.marketunlocker . Since, according to the developer, the new Market checks your IP address as well. I even put the Market through TOR and used My IP to make sure I come up as in the US. Still no go! I suspect Google has maybe blocked/flagged me or something. Can't find any other explanation for this. When I get to my CC, I'm going to try a last attempt to use a different Google account with the same spoofing methods.
Thank you for trying to help.
It won't open from the "Downloads" app, browse to downloads in a file explorer and open from there...

Thank you, Market Access did work.
Using Market Access now. No longer getting a "Purchases are not allowed in your country", now the message has changed to a consistent "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found." or "An error occurred: Please try again."
So, I guess something's changed!
Try clearing your market data now that Market Access is installed and rebooting?

First thing I tried. Repeatedly. No go! I'm so frustrated. I'm thinking of just going this route: http://www.usunlocked.com/
Getting a virtual card with a US billing address so that I can use it on the web market as well.
Figured it out. Just flashed a new rom and it wasn't working, moved from Bigxie 5 to 6... one of the changes was restore from market now works. So I setup and some apps were coming down but I stopped to restore from TB. And Market Enabler etc no longer worked. Rebooting and clearing did not help.
So I removed my Google account from Accounts and Sync and then cleared data and uninstalled updates for the Market. Set Market Access to emulate on boot and rebooted. Logged into the Market (it asked for credentials) and back working fine.
Think it remembered from first boot and set my Google account to the wrong market.

Sorry for creating a thread just for a question, but I couldn’t find an answer elsewhere.
My Galaxy S3 is rooted and the Market Enabler worked in removing the country restrictions and showing the paid apps. But when I proceed to buy an app, the store suddenly closes and I get this message: “Unfortunately, Google Play Store has stopped”
Any ideas how to fix this?

First try to clear your Play Store cache. You need couple of more things to do in order to get the market working and buy apps.
Clear the cache of Google Transport Protocol (or something smilar - can't remember)
Clear the cache of Talk
Clear the cache for Market (just to be safe)
Turn on flight mode
Reboot
Now when your reboot is done make sure the phone is still in airplane mode. Next you have to fire the Market Enabler app, select your fake sim. After selecting the fake sim make sure you are still in airplane mode.
After completing these steps turn on your wifi (attn: WiFi). Log into Google Talk. Give it a couple f minutes to make sure it syncs with the server and lets it register the fake sim you have introduced. Open the Market and try to purchase something.
Google also does a check with credit cards billing address so you have to change the address of your credit card to a valid address from a country where market is open (ex: US, UK, DE)
Be nice and hit the thanks button
Thanks a lot for the replies, guys!
Will try now!

That's because Market Enabler is outdated and not really optimised. Use Market Access instead (Google "Market Access apk" it's a free app). Tiny, nicely done and 100% working. I browse and buy in the Verizon market, because the user base is way better than the one in my country.
Why should MarketEnabler (Jan 2012) be outdated?
According to the release date it's newer than MarketAccess (22 July, 2010).
