I think so
but Can u enter bootloader?
vol. down+power
Nothing too difficult to fix. Just make a goldcard and flash a stock RUU.
how to make a Goldcard without the phone is recognized by the computer and especially without access to the micro sd?
Probably bricked. Can you enter HBOOT?

you olny need a gold card for a branded phone when you want to run a RUU file.. the gold card that was made for your Desire will not work as a gold cared in the other phone so just use that one instead of making another one

he can make another gold card by creating another image
ITs not just for RUU's. if he wants to wireless update the device he needs the gold card there or wifi and internet will break.
it takes 2 mins to make a gold card, its in your best interest to make one

I didn't make my self clear in original post, the card is used in another phone but just as a memory card. I had problems with two other cards when making them gold cards, so i thought that i could reuse this one. my question is, is the gold card stil good if its been used as a memory card, or should i format it and run the goldcard process again.
BTW you need the goldcard for every update on a debranded phone
My gold card appeared to get corrupted/damaged after using it in my blackberry. I formatted it on my blackberry, then windows and then finally my desire before re-making it into a gold card
I redid the goldcard process and everything went fine. I didn't want to risk it. Thanks for your help

The gold card is based on the card id, not the phone, so should work as a gold card on another device.

I can confirm that.
I used a Wildfire to create a goldcard for a Desire.

can you post the easiest way to create a gold card? I seem to have a hard time doing that. Also, I used unrevoked root method on my unlocked telus branded( using it on att) and im installing roms and radios and all is good, do I still need to create a gold card?
Hi all,
I was hoping someone could help me out? I've just got myself a HTC Desire which I was lead to believe would be unbranded. Unfortunately I dealt with a liar and I've just discovered it's got a load of virgin crap on the boot up screen and what not. How do I remove it and is there a way to get rid of this without rooting my phone? I really don't want to root and mess with a custom rom or anything been as I know absolutely nothing about this kind of thing :S! I'd really appreciate any help you guys could give me!
You first need to create a gold card. Google it and you'll find plenty of guides on how to do this.
Secondly, you need the RUU for the unbranded Desire ROM, which you can find here:
http://www.multiupload.com/UOWLL86GVB
To install the ROM, have the gold card in your phone and make sure HTC Sync is installed on your PC. Connect your Desire to the PC and select 'HTC Sync' from the menu on the phone. Once Sync on the PC shows connected just run the RUU. If the gold card is working correctly it will install and voila - one unbranded Desire!!!
* Best to make your every day SD card into the gold card as you WILL need it for all future updates
Thanks for the speedy reply! I just have a few more questions (sorry ^^;!)
Would that get rid of every non-htc thing on my phone including start up rubbish? I also have one about gold cards, if I change my sd card will my phone not work if it's been unbranded on another? I'm unsure whether to give this a go on a tiny one or go for a bigger one that I'll probably use full time. I'm sorry for the silly questions :S!
If you have a working gold card then just use that, it will then be on the stock HTC ROM. If you're now using a larger SD card just make that into a gold card and leave it the phone
Oops, sorry if I confused you, I don't have one. I was just wondering if it mattered if I swapped the gold card-ed sd card for another.
On a side note, if I didn't use a gold card to debrand the phone, will the splash screen start up branding disappear if I change it to a custom one?
You can't debrand unless you use a gold card. After you have unbranded you can use your other SD card. But if there are any ota updates you will need the goldcard to update the phone.

You CANNOT debrand without a gold card if you're just going for a stock ROM
You could, however, root the phone and use a custom ROM but that won't change the boot screen when you first turn it on - just the animated one. You'd need S-OFF to change the first one.
Easiest thing is to just make a gold card now and debrand using a stock WWE RUU

Which is why you just make your usual SD card into a gold card and leave it in the phone
Hmm. Okay, let me get this right, debranding would get rid of any virgin app stuff on the phone but wouldn't get rid of the virgin start up image and using S-off *would* replace the virgin animation with a static custom image?

no what there saying is, if you want to debrand using a ruu, (that will remove everything vigin including the splash screen) you need a goldcard, but if you dont have a gold card, you can root using unrevoked and flash a custom rom, that will remove everything virgin except the splash screen, you can then s-off and manually flash a new splash
Oh wow, this is confusing :S I've now discovered a virgin media scene option as well as a random link to the virgin internet that doesn't show up in my apps along with the flashscreen.
Oh right So using a gold card will leave the htc/android innards alone but get rid of everything virgin? And will I need to do anything special if I upgrade my sd card to a larger one in the future (don't quite have the money for a big one at the moment ^^?
A gold card doesnt get rid of the Virgin branding ... A gold card only allows you to run an unbranded RUU for a branded phone ... which then gets rid of the branding (Virgin stuff)
Oh and if you purchase a larger sd card later you can turn that one into gold card too if you need to ...
Here's a few things about the RUU...
1. It's a COMPLETE ROM, flashing it will wipe the existing one in its entirety and replace it with the new one.
2. You will LOSE all data on the phone when flashing an RUU
3. You need a gold card to flash an RUU not suitable for your handset, e.g. if your phone is x.xx.405.x you can only use RUUs which are also x.xx.405.x - unless you use a gold card
hi i need some help with the goldcard,
i tried to root my desire hd yesterday but something went wrong and now it doesn't boot at all, when i turn it on it only shows the htc logo and thats it.
It lets me go to to the fastboot screen pressing the volume and power buttons but that's as far as it goes, I've been reading and searching how to fix this problem, i think what it has is called "brick", anyway i just want to put the rom that it had before and restore it to its default settings, to do that i need a goldcard which you can easily get if your phone is working, but because my phone doesn't start i cant access to setting and enable the debugging mode, therefore i havent been able to create a goldcard, my question is: is there any way to get a goldcard without putting the sd card in the phone? or is there any other way to fix the problem and get my phone working?
thanks in advance, anything will be helpful
You may be able to use a sd card reader on your computer to find the CID... Look at the comments on my thread as to how to find your CID. All you need is the CID code in order to make a goldcard, and a sd card reader

the first post has 2 ways to get CID
PM me for more help.
Download pd98img.zip file, place it on your sd card. Start your phone in hboot mode ( lower volume button & turn on button ) the phone should automatically download it to your phone. You should then be able to upgrade to gingerbread 2.3.3. The version it will upload should be version 2.2.

I'm using the ace hack kit to root my phone. It's downloaded a downgraded ROM and transferred it to my sd card. The phone then launches the hboot screen on my phone and i'm not sure what to do next. Can anyone help?

Cheers. I'll give it a try. Probably doesn't help that the card i'm using is a cheapo from eBay.

The issue is not being cheap or large. It is that seems to be corrupted to work as a goldcard. That happens when eject it in an improper way...bad habits they call it.

Hey glevitan, I think it's brilliant of you, that you are here answering noob queries (like me), couldn't get any response on the IRC channel yesterday.
Think I have the same problem as the OP, but I've tried with 2 SD cards so far. Going to try after freshly FAT32 formatting one of those SD cards today evening, any chance that could work?
I'm from India, and though it's not carrier locked, the Desire HD i'm trying to root is now stuck on the screen with a black triangle, with the Red Exclamation sign, right after the splash screen. Only can access HBOOT 2.0 when restarting with Vol. Down + Power button.
I also now keep getting error:device offline problems as well when trying to run the Ace kit. The Ace kit only detects the phone and takes to the "Enter Pass key" screen if the phone is in the black triangle screen. It does not detect the phone if it's on the HBOOT or FASTBOOT screens.
Flashing an RUU also fails on the INFOsignature check point. So i guess the problem is an SD card issue.
I also couldn't find any method from the HBOOT screen to mount SD to transfer files to it, have now got hold of a Micro SD adapter to try transferring files to it through a card reader.
The software build version of the phone was on the list of ROM's necessary to downgrade in your PDF file, and I think that's where it is now stuck.
What I hope to now do is 1. Rerun the ACE kit with this formatted SD Card and see if ACE successfully completes
2. Download one of the PD98IMG.zip files, paste it in the SD Card root, get into HBOOT and hope HBOOT flashes the stock ROM.
3. Pray hard.
Didn't realise rooting the Desire HD was so insanely hard compared to my Nexus S, would never have attempted to try!!!
Thanks for any help/guidance/(even if you vaguely point in some direction, think I'll run that way like a dog in hope of finding a bone. )
Yes you were right about it being the sd card. My original card was a 4GB card i bought off eBay (probably sourced from China). Today i used a 32GB class 10 card by Samsung and it worked perfectly. Doubt you'll need a card of that standard but i thought i'd give the details for reference.
i am having the same issues. downgrade doesnt work. ugh. wish there was a program like the ace kit that i could download. any ideas....? plz help

AAHK is still around, just not on XDA. It's linked in the OP of the Ace Think Tank thread, linked in my signature.
