I'm having issues unrooting. My USB port is broken (It will not even charge unless held in the right position), which is why I need to take my phone to the Sprint store to get repaired. I have already flashed the UnrEVOked s-on tool and that worked alright for me. The problem now is that whenever I try to flash the PC36IMG.zip through hboot, it will not recognize it. My hboot is version 0.93.0000. What can I do next? If any more information is needed, please let me know.
Thanks.
Idk bruhh, good luck with that tho.

What does "it will not recognize it" mean?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
By that I mean that when hboot loads, it will look for the PC36IMG's but it will just say "No Image!" underneath PC36IMG.zip.

Can you redownload the file, and double check that you have it named correctly?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I already tried that. I used 2 different mirrors and neither of them worked. MD5's were both good too. The names were correct also.
ok and you definitely renamed the file to PC36IMG.zip? I am just triple checking because that's a common thing people overlook sometimes. Or they don't realize they need to rename it. Or they forget that it must be put on the root of the sd card.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yeah, I know. But I've triple checked everything and it just does not seem to be working. I'm 100% positive that it's named PC36IMG.zip (yes, I've checked the file extension too) and it is in the root of my SD card.
Does anyone have any ideas? I've tried using nandroids but they didn't fix the fact that hboot doesn't recognize my PC36IMG (I was trying to downgrade updates to the phone, didn't work).

Bump. Does anyone know how to downgrade hboot?
When u rename the pc36img, the .zip is already there. Try taking the .zip off & boot into hboot. If it is named right & on the root of your sdcard it will load it.

I got it, I had to hold the USB cable in the right position and I flashed it using Fastboot.
Hey, my EVO's USB port has gotten loose and I need to revert back to stock before I take it back to Sprint. I rooted it using Unrevoked 3, and I'm currently on CM7 RC2 (Prior to that I was on CM7 RC1 and CM6, if that info is needed). How would I go about doing this without use of my USB port? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Or just visit the site on your phone.
Or use chrome to phone.
Or put them in your dropbox.
I'm sure there are more options, but one of the 4 will get you by.
Alright do I use the S-ON tool first then flash PC36IMG.zip? Or the other way around?

S-on tool first. Flash in recovery. Then once you confirm that the s on tool worked correctly, and your s is indeed on, then flash the PC36IMG using the bootloader.
When I flash the S-On tool, when I go back to the bootloader, it still says S-OFF. Any idea why?

Did you use unrevoked to root? If not, the s on tool may not work, and just running the ruu should turn s on. If you did use unrevoked, try downloading a different copy and running it again.

Try it again, sometimes it takes up to five times to work. Just make sure it says s-on before you take it back and theres no super user app in your app drawer. Also, make sure you delete the s-off.log in the sd card after your ready to take it in! Maybe even get rid of any apps and folders on your data card that have to have root (ie titanium backup) save the folders though So you can put them back on after you get a replacement.

So after trying to flash the S-ON tool dozens of times and not succeeding, I decided to try flashing the PC36IMG.zip to see if that would do anything and it turned S-ON! Thanks for the help you guys, it wasn't the best way to unroot but it turned out alright in the end.

If it turns on, then it's not bricked.
Take the sd card out and put into a card reader. Put a stock rom pc36img on the root of the sd card and put it back in the phone and boot.
I tried that and it said version is older I think I'm not sure what exactly it said I'm at work right now. Where would be the best place to get a new software update for it
Sent from my CSL-MI410 using XDA App
are you sure the phone is even rooted? If you have an active sprint account take it to the sprint store, they might be able to reset it back to factory default.
Also post the exact error message you get when trying to load the file. If we go by guessing we could be here a while.
Well it was rooted and flashed to cricket with cyanogenmod on it but my buddy did something in hboot that turned s on and made the sd card not mount in clock work mod. I will list all the info when I get home

None of those are gonna work until you root your phone. Search on here for Revolutionary Root and use whatever method you use to root your phone. You need to know your Hboot version, which you get when you boot into Bootloader.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think you needed root to flash a pc36img in the bootloader.
depends which one. The only one that will flash if you're s-on is the RUU for your phone and the Hboot has to match. If it doesn't you'll get the "older version" error. So, the phne needs to be rooted, then flash a custom recovery, preferably Amon Ra
I think he has to flash a ruu pc36img first cuz he cannot boot into the rom. Download the newest 4.54 pc36img and flash that. What does hboot version say?
Support TrevE !!
Yeah, that's what I had gathered. The image I linked to was an unrooted stock image. He'll still have S-ON but he'll need to reflash, his recovery and the SU binaries.

Root is bro!
I'm interested to see if it works. I also want to know how the hell he went from s-off to s-on, because unless his friend started sending software and commands to his phone I would imagine it would be impossible.
I'm starting to wonder if he flashed to cricket improperly and bricked the phone.

There are several different ways to go.
The quickest way (might not work and is just a temp fix) is to download, then unzip the zip file to EVO-RECOVERY folder on your computer. Boot the phone into RECOVERY (with the red triangle), then run the recovery-windows.bat file if you're running Windows on your computer and see does that do anything. Whether or not it works would tell me exactly how the phone was rooted.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/38127313/EVO-recovery.zip
The phone is s-on, you're going to need to run unrevoked to gain s-off so you can flash a recovery. You can't flash any unofficial zips in hboot with s-on. Search for unrevoked and your hboot version to find the correct version of unrevoked to unlock the bootloader(hboot).

Toast Method 1 (only needed a PC36IMG file and a temp recovery) or the old Unrevoked (3.1 something, before unrevoked-forever was added). It did not need S-OFF for just flashing ROMs.

Good point. I rooted and S-off via toast right after launch. I guess if someone only did his first step it would look like that. Good point. Speaking of toast, I just threw up quotes of his latest post all over general subforum in all the threads where people are trying to decide if they want nexus or Evo LTE.
They locked the one X down like no tomorrow. Team win and toast can't get recovery to access USB for mount while in recovery. Making me lean nexus.

Did you ever try the EVO-RECOVERY download. No one said anything about pressing volume up and the power button. When you see the red triangle, do not do anything except run the recovery-windows.bat file on your computer (after extracting the files to the EVO-RECOVERY folder) to see if a recovery menu appears. I forgot to mention that the phone must be connected to the computer.
If that does not work, then you might want to go to the unrevoked site and follow their root instructions.

Perfect, the quickest way.
Download the attached files and place them on the root of your SD card.
Flash the unrevoked-forever from the temporary recovery menu that I gave you. That will turn the phone S-OFF.
Then run the PC36IMG file through the bootloader (power off the phone, then volume down +power buttons) and accept the update. That will give you the latest Amon permanent recovery. I also added the superuser.zip file in case you need to flash it (especially on stock ROM if you need it for superuser permissions).
Thank you Everyone

No problem. I just tried to give you a work around to Toast Method 2 (I see the phone was rooted with Toast Method 1 only) which would also S-OFF the phone, but is more complicated.
You could have also used unrevoked, but you probably would needed to unroot first, then install the Hboot drivers, then run unrevoked (not to mention downloading all of those things) which would have taken some time.

I have a lot of junk on my computer, I mean old files.
The kicker is, i lost root on my phone... no Recovery.. i can get into HBoot...
My phone is always stuck on reboot loop.. theres a few odd times where it makes it into OS but then reboots again.
So I was going to my old files and noticed that I still have my Nandroid backup, so if i put this back onto my phone, will it be saved?
I cant even get it too root without the phone rebooting..
What root method did you use? What hboot do you have? Are you still s-off? What were you running prior to this happening like rom ect ? Have you tried a RUU yet? This type of information can help people try to figure out how to fix it

Since revolutionary only requires the phone to be in fastboot to s-off it. Plug your phone into your computer install the required drivers and run revolutionary program it should read your device and precede from there by typing your beta key from the website and installing a recovery from the revolutionary program. I think you do, I believe most root methods use a combination of adb and fastboot. After you install it, make sure you're running the root method from the same directory as adb.exe and fastboot.exe are in (should be platform-tools).

Can you access your sdcard? Because if you can download a recovery and rename it PC36100.ZIP and put it on the root of your sdcard. When you go to your bootloader just go into the menu with the recovery option (Cant remeber atm) and it should come up asking you if you want to update the file.
