whats the best governor when running 245/998 non overcloked? i want speed but retain good battery life with a sbc kernel. so far i have had no luck.
conservative
interactive
smartass or ondemand?
I'd say Ondemand with a screenoff profile.
I like interactive with a screen off profile

i like interactive too but it seems to drain the battery faster.
screen off 245-422 on demand
and conservative for normal use.
i get pretty good battery life.
Smartass on tiamat works great for me. I use a 128/2.. Screen off profile
Swyped via my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO
I use sz on demand. Alot of the other govs seem to be real laggy or drain the crap out of my battery
Personally, use Tiamat 3.3.8, 245/537. I ramp it up just a tad if I'm playing an emulator.
Why does the Tiamat kernel not have an "On Demand" governor? What should I use for my screen off profile then?

My guess is SMARTASS is the ONDEMAND replacement?

I've been testing the speed of my evo.
right now i've been underclocking for better battery.
i'm curious as to what you guys are setting yours to
and how it's affected the phone and how you use it
as well as the impact on battery life.
I OC to 1190 and get about 16-18 hours of juice.

setcpu settings? kernel?
i'm using CM6 with kings kernel #2.
SETCPU attached thumbs.
Running BurntDroid 1.1 with Netarchy 4.1.9.1 CFS beta
nice! thanks. i'll give it a shot and see how my evo likes it.
thanks again
conservative
I really hate how sluggish and slow the Evo gets with scaling set to conservative.

It's only noticable when you first wake the phone. After that it's smooth. I've had no other issue.
CM nightly, Snap 7.6 Turbo at 806 mhz ondemand yields decent performance.
I'm brand new to underclocking so I don't for sure of its effect on battery life yet.
I'm running calks rom, and i have setcpu with his profile settings, i just flashed the the newer kernel in the development section for superior battery charging and it has the "smartass" scaling as an option?
Which scaling governor works best? with battery and performance both in mind
"smartass" or "on-demand"
A lot of people say that interactive is really good. my phone doesn't like to play nice with it. I use performance with screen on, battery life isn't a huge factor for me. I set mine to the lowest possible with screen off. I have also heard a lot of good things about smartass, but I have never used it. I would play around with smartass and interactive and see which one works best for you
Swyped from my dark and cyanogenized EVO
I have mine all set to Smartass.
If you select a governer leave setcpu turned on and let your phone idle with the screen on and watch it.
You don't want you CPU maxing out when it's not in use.
I find smartass to keep it at the lowest clock (245 for me) better than any other governers.
Probably should add, i'm getting 20+ hours off a charge with pretty heavy use. but that's with profiles scaling my cpu down as my battery dies, all set to smartass.
With an evo and fresh 3.5.1, n4.3.1 kernal havs, bfs, sbc, the phone has been running very stable @ 1190 but the smartass setting doesnt seem to be playing too well w my phone after many benches w basic setcpu program "long bench" I have determined my phone runs optimal at conservative and performance. Battery isnt terrible on performance as if I stayed by a router for 60% of a full seidio 3500 would be 48-55 hours. This has been best combo for me for speed and life that I have found. no reboots or basic lockups occasionally for an extended time. Maybe its the way smartass looks for what to do by scaling when performance is all way looking for next task that would help it work. But thats my phone, my old droid reponded very dif to kernal swaps as I flashed many too. Battery life off the wifi more has netted me in the 40ish hour charge point. Regardlesd has held 2 days morning to evening routine.
Guys! What is the best setting for Set Cpu? I need to conserve battery. My battery lasts about 12 hours. Im using a Reflex S 2.04 rom but i shifted to Leedroid 2.4.1. My settings are 768 On demand and 245 max 245 min on demand for powersave.
What is smart ass? How does it affect the system?
On SetCpu, I run overclocked 1200 till under 80%
Then about 80
700 at 70% battery
600 at 50%
I don't wish to run lower, as the desire gets a little wonky below 500mhz
3 profiles. I can get 3 days battery
I use no frills CPU - oc 1114, ondemand governor 245-1114.
Get about 12 he's heavy use, up to 2 days light. Today I have done 3+ hrs train journey with music, browsing and SMS, checked mail, now hanging about on this forum! 41% left.
All other governors are ****. Just use ondemand.
Im set at 128-1190 ondemand.

Why?
I use smartass @128-768 Mhz.
remember to use screen off feature (saves a lot of battery)
I've been meaning to ask for a while but what's the difference between the governors, such as ondemand smartass etc...? Thanks. Dan.

Because they don't work well. When you need CPU power they tend to lag and it takes that little extra longer which does my head in. Whether it's just me I don't know but it is so annoying. I have noticed it when playing games like RoboDefence. That's why I stick to ondemand because it actually works.
for the sleep off what is the best setting? screen off 245 max 245 min on demand? or 245 max 128min smart ass?
With smartass you do not have to set a profile for screen off. Smartass uses automatically the min cpu-frequency you set. So if you set smartass for screen off, you have two "screen off"-profiles. I think that could cause problems. You should set the screen-off-profile on [email protected] to avoid waking up problems, which can occur with this min 128 and max 245 for screen off-profile.

+1 Agree totally
Ondemand is the only governor which doesnt make my phone lag.

From SetCPU-Website:
ondemand – Available in most kernels, and the default governor in most kernels. When the CPU load reaches a certain point (see “up threshold” in Advanced Settings), ondemand will rapidly scale the CPU up to meet demand, then gradually scale the CPU down when it isn't needed.
conservative – Available in some kernels. It is similar to the ondemand governor, but will scale the CPU up more gradually to better fit demand. Conservative provides a less responsive experience than ondemand, but can save battery.
performance – Available in most kernels. It will keep the CPU running at the “max” set value at all times. This is a bit more efficient than simply setting “max” and “min” to the same value and using ondemand because the system will not waste resources scanning for CPU load.
powersave – Available in some kernels. It will keep the CPU running at the “min” set value at all times.
userspace – A method for controlling the CPU speed that isn't currently used by SetCPU. For best results, do not use the userspace governor.

smartass governor – is based on the concept of the interactive governor.
I have always agreed that in theory the way interactive works – by taking over the idle loop – is very attractive. I have never managed to tweak it so it would behave decently in real life. Smartass is a complete rewrite of the code plus more. I think its a success. Performance is on par with the “old” minmax and I think smartass is a bit more responsive. Battery life is hard to quantify precisely but it does spend much more time at the lower frequencies.
Smartass will also cap the max frequency when sleeping to 352Mhz (or if your min frequency is higher than 352 – why?! – it will cap it to your min frequency). Lets take for example the 528/176 kernel, it will sleep at 352/176. No need for sleep profiles any more!

I did a google search and found no good simple explanation of the Lionheart governor. What exactly does it do in more simpler terms.
Is the battery life better than stock but with better performance?
Lionheart is a conservative-based governor which is based on samsung's update3 source. Tweaks comes from 1) Knzo 2) Morfic. The tunables (such as the thresholds and sampling rate) were changed so the governor behaves more like the performance one, at the cost of battery as the scaling is very aggressive. To 'experience' Lionheart goes well with deadline i/o scheduler. When it comes to smoothness (not considering battery drain), a tuned conservative delivers more as compared to a tuned ondemand.
Hope that helps

Thanks but that is what I was talking about. I saw this definition on google but I can't understand that definition.
I just want to know where does Lionheart rank among the others in terms of performance and in terms of battery life (especially stock).
Right now I'm using Eugene's kernel with lionheart battery is great for me I get 13 to 15hours with good performance the other governor that would be good on batter is Brazilian wax and savages Zen those two are good to but I prefer lionheart ccause there's performance with good battery life better than stock in my opinion.

Brazilianwax and savagedzen are both derivatives of smartass, which doesn't work with our chipset. If you use any of those 3 your CPU frequencies will tend to stick at max value and not go down

no they work fine...
Smartass & the other 2 have no issue with it sticking... however SmartassV2 does stick at Max speed.

I stand corrected then
Lionheart vs. Interactive, Smartass, Brazillen Wax, Savage Zen?
Can anyone answer this?
How does its battery life and performance of Lionheart under typical usage compares to interactive's, smartass', brazillian wax's, and savage zen's?
You can just say something like, "Under normal and average use, Lionheart generally has a better battery life than abc and better performance than xyz."

smartass v2 and ondemand are very popular on the XDA
Which do you like?
I think smartass is a better governor in my opinion.

Neither is going to make your battery bigger, lol. But I tend to use smartass. I think the key to saving battery is lowering your sleep CPU to as low as possible.

I've been using ondemand and smartassv2 each for a while and I haven't noticed any increases in performance or battery life. Every phone is different, so I guess you should just find what works best for you.
Also, performance wise our phone's processor is more than enough to deal with most things. I have rarely ever felt that I've need to overclock (unless I'm trying to get a quadrant standard PR ), usually it's an issue with RAM (once again, for me at least)
Not so big difference, but I think ondemand is better.
