I was using the icons from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831475&highlight=icons to create a nice screen, but the vertical gaps in between the widgets seem to be much bigger than what I saw from others using LP. Is it something with my phone or is it the pictures themselves?
Try changing the number of rows on the homescreens to five if you haven't already. This should close the gaps. I always use five rows with any home replacement app... it just seems to fit better than four.
Worked like a charm! Thanks for all the help

I have a completely clear screen with no widgets or icons on it, and whenever I try to put any of calender widgets it just says there no more room on the home screen. I also tried others ones and it didn't work like the contacts widgets...any idea whats going on?
Thanks
I think I figured out the problem, but not sure how to fix it. I have the paid version of launcherpro where you can resize widgets, the problem is the widget space twice as big as the widget itself and it will not let me resize up or down, only left and right.
Because of this I can only put one widget per screen cause of that "space" that it somehow taking up.
I think because the calender widgets are big and design to fit the screen, that the extra space is causing not to fit, therefore the message comes up "no more space"
Any idea on how to fix this?
check to see what your homescreen grid looks like (i.e. num of columns/rows)
its in the launcher pro preferences / homescreen settings
Thank you!
default is 4 rows and 4 columns.
ICS is driving me a little nuts... First the normal weather and news app cannot seem to find my location. It won't even find me if I manually put it in, city or zip code. Is this because I'm in the US or is this broken?
Second, is there any way I can fix the widget spacing? I put the news, a calendar widget and weather widget on my main page. No matter if they are HTC or Android, the spacing between the widgets is huge and looks terrible. Even adjusting the widget size leaves a huge amount of unusable space.
Appreciate any help!

I noticed the huge gap also in the widgets. I kept trying to move the Google Search widget under the clock and weather but wouldn't go close.
I am guessing this is how it is in ICS?
Anyone find a solution, or are we just the minor few that care?
Unfortunately, between this and the battery life I'm considering returning mine and sticking with my Note.
EDIT: The weather widget is still funky, but I went under settings and even though it wouldn't accept a manual location I used automatic then forced a refresh and it sometimes works.

Unfortunately, despite the large real estate the screen provides, the homescreens are still laid out in a 4x4 grid. So, no matter where you put it, it will still show a gap. Makes no sense, I know. They could've laid everything out in a 5x5 grid. Kinda wastin space. They coulda laid the Vivid out in. 5x4 grid, but they didn't. Sux to have wasted space like that.
You can use Nova or Apex launchers and go to as much as a 7 x 7 grid.
I was hoping someone could help me sizing widgets for the nexus screen.
I wanted to make a grid that fit together with no spaces in between like on that market screenshot for the app.
My plan uses 4x1 and 2x1 widgets so I wont need the other sizes.
I had it set up pretty good on my lg but with the different screen sizes it doesnt match on the nexus.
I have my screen set to 5 rows and 4 columns so I was looking to do a 4x1 at the top then 6 2x1s and then a 4x1 at the bottom.
Any help would be much appreciated.

are those tiles or just hotspots? if the lines aren't visible you can just set it as your wallpaper and use DVR to create invisible icons using a "blank picture".
if not, find out what your phone resolution is and your gonna have to edit the picture to find the proper alignment to match the widget sizes...i have made a bunch of custom homescreens (its a pain to get the alignment right sometimes)..but if it looks good in the end, its worth it
it shouldnt be too difficult though, that set up isn't complicated

Thats a good idea, so your saying create it all as one picture and then set it to wallpaper then use invisible icons for widgets right?
The only problem I can see for that is what about the wallpaper for the rest of my screens?

1. yes
2. are you using scrolling wallpaper or is it static?
either way the concept will still work...just that scrolling wallpaper may take you longer to figure out the alignment
if you can post the picture you are going to use and an idea of what you want i can help you with more specific questions

I did something like that when I was using multiple wallpaper but I much prefer the scrolling wallpaper so I stopped using it.
How would this work with a scrollable wallpaper when you see the same part of the wallpaper on 2 separate screens?
This was the screen I had with multiple wallpaper.
The thats the wallpaper Im currently using.

ive actually never seen someone use a "tile" setup with scrolling wallpaper...it can be done but obviously there will be overlapping points..the icons would be on separate screens and with blank images so it would just be the wallpaper shifting not the icons (since they arent visible)
in my opinion, if you are going to use a tile set up it would be best to use static wallpaper...i know you posted a picture of the wallpaper but it doesnt really give me a clear idea as to what you are doing

What Im doing or trying to do is just what that screen shot is. Have a check list type screen to launch apps from.
I found a desktop visualizer addon called dvrimageslicer that I thought was the answer I was looking for but for some reason it only crops images with no gaps on the top and bottom. So it looks exactly how I want it to when I only use 4x1 widgets but when I use more than one widget on the same row it leaves a gap on the left and right sides of each widget.

sorry for the late response...by gap do you mean visual gap or space that you cant click? (like a blank unused icon space)
that setup is very simple
use an app like photoshop to design the layout as a background...then use blank icons as mentioned previously
the most difficult part of the entire thing is going to be getting the spacing right...but that you can done in a matter of minutes
Hi,
in the last few months I really start to like the theme with a static wallpaper (or multi wallpaper) where there is just everything and you use uccw/transparent icon on the phone.
I'm then having problem because often is hard to understand where a widget will be really positioned or is hard to put an icon in the right position (maybe you want to add a counter to it and the counter is not matching the icon in the wallpaper).
I'm using nova launcher (not sure why I choosed that, apex was a little bit laggy scrolling wallpaper and...ss launcher I didn't know about it but right now I love it but because I purchased nova, let's keep nova).
What I'm then wondering is if there are template with line where you can exactly understand where the grid of nova are (7x7, 6x7 and so on) or if someone has some suggestion on how to do that.
I already tried to just craete a pics in photoshop with the resolution of the htc one x and splitting it in 7x7 grid but, not sure why, my grid isn't matching the real grid of the nova homescreen (maybe because there is no notification bar on the top?? don't know).
Any suggesiton or premaded template around (tried to google it but without any good result).
Thanks,
Massimiliano
What you could do I guess, is filling each grid with random apps, screenshot it and open it up in Photoshop and draw a grid based on that. And I think grid size changes if you enable/disable statusbar and dockrow.
And in nova homescreen settings there is width and hight marginal options witch affect grid size aswell.
Perhaps u can make two full size icons with different colours and place out, might make it easier drawing the grid if icons have straight edges.
Edit: take a screenshot while moving a widget, that will show the grid.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Good idea, I'll try it thanks
Hi All
I am new here, recently rooted and installed the CM11 ROM
So far so good. Just wondering however.
The Icons and overall feel of the OS seems very large to me, and in some icons even pixalated (Instagram app)
Is this normal?
Also when I rotate the tab into landscape the text from the apps are cut off, its like it doesnt fit onto the page.
Do i need to install a launcher such as Apex?or GPE?
Thanks

hi, when you rotate into landscape the letters are indeed cut off, this is a bug of cyanogen and i believe that they ll fix it sometime. If you want smaller icons long press on desktop screen, select settings and change the number of rows and columns. If you select bigger number the icons will become smaller and i managed to see the whole text of icons with a particular number of rows and columns.

Do you mind me asking which row and columns you have?
I installed KK launcher just to see if there would be a difference.
And there is a massive difference. The icons are much more crisp and smooth and smaller.
Not sure if its just my ROM.

yeah I forgot to tell you to install a different launcher, cyanogen launcher is bugged, it's not just your rom. I use 7 rows and 6 columns and I use it mostly on portrait mode, if I put 8 rows then the icons look really messed up

Great thanks for this!
Any recommendations on a good Launcher?
Do I have to remove the current CM11 launcher or do they both run at the same time?
Cheers

if you install a custom launcher it will replace the stock, no need to uninstall cyanogens launcher. Unfortunately i havent found much time to experiment with the launchers, although i want sometime to change cyanogen's launcher. The most popular launchers by far are go launcher ex and nova launcher. I want to try someday next launcher 3d, it's created from the development team of go launcher ex and it has some really cool 3d effects.
if you are more technically inclined try changing ro.sf.lcd_density= in your build.prop to something lower like 270, I believe it's set at 320 or something like that ala nexus.
in setting you can choose between launcher3 and the Google Experince Launcher (It's simply called launcher). the Google Experience Launcher works great.
I installed nova launcher and the desktop looks way much better than in cyanogen's launcher. Nova launcher is a simple launcher though, with few options available for customise. But it works really great and it does the job.
