Skyraider 4.0 Scenes won't save?? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'm new to the forums and to rooting my droid inc.
I've had my droid for a bit now but grew tired of the "low space" warning issue and all the bloatware installed and just wanted to try something different.
Rooting went without a hitch for the most part and I successfully flashed Skyraider 4.0 after doing some reading on different ROMS...
Loving it, but can't figure out how to save scenes....the scenes tab opens up and I can see all the preloaded scenes but no save button and switching between them loses any changes made to home screen. Is this by design? Any update to fix? Do I have a bad flash?
Appreciate any and all help with this.
Thanks

I believe its either just a missing feature or a bug that everybody is having. You can always back up it up through Titanium Backup if you want; but you'll only have 1 backup.

i guess he didnt put it in the rom

wow, that's a shame because I really like the ROM too, but I am one of the few I guess that actually uses the scenes quite a bit. I use em for leaving home for work and such...especially for saving battery....this is a deal breaker for me
Thanks for the replies

Is it just me....???

I feel really stupid on this forum. Everyone is so smart and knows what their doing most of the time. You all talk the lingo and I'm lost half the time. I'm trying to play catch up, read and learn as much as I can. How did all of you learn this stuff? I'm searching these forums and googling everything! I'm a new Android user(obviously)and I love my Nitro, minus the horrible battery life. I really like the fact that these phones can be modified a lot. So far I've rooted my phone and did the no carrier, blue icons and battery % mods.
Now that my 30 days is over, I can NOT screw up my phone. Basically I'm not going to do a thing to it till I have a clue. I guess there's a de-bricking write up, but that is CONFUSING as hell to me. I just need lots of detail, pictures, or better yet, a video to learn that kind of stuff. Reading how do the CWM doesn't look too bad, only because I googled it for the Nitro and there's already a few cites that made a clear write up. Installing a custom ROM doesn't look to hard either. However, all the modifications to these ROMS is overwhelming. Back to Google I go for all of that stuff stuff. I just figured out how to use Titanium Backup Pro, I think. What isn't clear is how to restore my phone with the apps/contacts after a custom ROM is installed. I know theirs more I'm forgetting, but that's enough for now.
I'm not ranting, just slightly frustrated don't understand it all. Not really sure what I want out of writing all this. Maybe some guidance, help, insight and or some answers to some of my questions. Thanks for reading!
It's not you, it's just like picking up on a computer, it takes time. I'm still a noob my most standards. I'm on my 3rd Android phone and know my way around my phones, but I don't know anything about development and don't really know my way around the Android file system that well. Here are some common terms that may help you out.
ADB - Android Debug Bridge, used for running commands to your device from your computer
Fastboot - It allows you to connect to your phone and run commands without booting entirely into your rom
CWM - ClockWorkMod, most common non-stock recovery tool
Bootloader - This partition loads your rom or recovery depending on what you need / select
If there's anything you're curious about just ask and I'm sure someone will help out. My ADB and Fastboot definitions are from my very limited understanding.
Check this out too, should be helpful. Found it on Google.

You'll do just fine so long as you don't try to do too much too soon.
I got started by simply rooting my AMOLED DROID Incredible, following some online guides. After that, I removed some bloatware. I kept reading about how to do more and once Cyanogenmod 7 came out for my phone, I used it. I've stuck with it ever since.
There are other things I'd like to know, too, like if I can get remove stock applications when I'm already using replacements (browser, email, messaging, etc.). But that might have to wait until I upgrade my device so that I can try it on this phone and not the new one.
Anyway, I hear ya when it comes to the steep learning curve. Baby steps, man. Baby steps. You'll get there in due time.

Man, you haven't lived until you brick your brand new first android phone within a week and a half of purchasing it off contract I almost shat bricks, I thought my phone was a lost cause.
1st andoid device for me too but I love the customization that it provides and dont like the risks. The biggest mistake I have made so far is getting stressed about change. Consequently, I will lose some patience and not follow a direction properly or think through a step like I should.
I did start with TB pro aswell but still broke my phone by freezing the stock launcher then later doing a factory reset. But I would have avoided that if I had been more patient and doublechecked what I had frozen prior. The good news is that caused me to dive in to Malninion's debrick guide which forced me to learn the basics of accessing this phone through the computer and issueeing commands which are all pretty straightforward albeit uncharted territory for me.
Now that I have a basic idea of how to use the basic tool kit I will be installing the cwm but I am waiting a bit longer to let any issues reveal themselves and more importantly see how folks really o er from those issues. Then after getting a better understanding of wtf cwm is ! I will instaall/ flash one of the custom roms after giving them a bit of time to sort themselves out as well.
So basically my strategy is to go slow, don't jump right on with a new dev until those more knowledgeable about it do and give it a good going over.
So now I'm trying to read how to use Titanium Backup to restore your apps after a you install a new ROM.
I found this> http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/viewsonic-gtablet-technical/12513-howto-titanium-backup-restore-apps-system-data-new-rom.html I know not to restore system data though.
Now what is frustrating is this: (If you have the donate version, don't forget to save your TitaniumBackup_license that is in the root folder.)
I have the Pro version, that I am 100% sure and it all works. What I think is my root folder, there is NOTHING in there (/root). I tried a search using Root Explorer and looked in Astro. I can't find my TitaniumBackup_license.txt file. I've google searched trying to find where it is and apparently it's a big secret that everybody knows but me.
It's really easy once you do it a few time's, if you need help let me know.

Kitchen

Is there an online version of the kitchen? I ask because it is the last resort to get a fully functional Rom on my evo before I allow my daughter to have it other than using my nandroid of my original and unrooting.
I use a 64-bit system Windows 7. Done research and it says a 32-bit Java will work but that is false. I have spent from 9am until an hour ago (3:30pm here now) formating my hard-drive and reinstalled my OS because it didn't work. Still the kitchen doesn't find Java although I tried to instal a 32-bit version. Online is the only way I can do anything or I need a step-by-step on what I need to do to an apk where I can do it on my phone or I am in need of someone building a Rom. So.....is there one online?
What are you doing? Making a fully functional ROM? Why not take a stock rooted or a working GB ROM like reloaded?
Yea just get a stock 5.07 rooted rom. Not really sure what you're trying to do

I am letting my daughter have my Evo. She has been hardcore blackBerry but given their status she is wanting to try Android. I have flashed every Rom on the first 10 pages of Development and what she has settled on as far as wanting most is Energy Rom. There are 3 problems stopping her from being totally happy with it. First is the 9016. After a lot of searching all I can find is it is tied to the Phone.apk. I have been unsuccessful at changing it out. The carousel shows only a grey screen when looking in Personalize but have been unsuccessful at getting the one from Mik3D installed and working since I know the one from that Rom works. The browser not going to mobile view and being to wide unless in landscape has been the only thing I have fixed. i used Root Explorer and deleted it and moved a basic stock in. Somehow it worked although the other things haven't. I had decided to try my hand at the kitchen to see if I could make the changes that way but it doesn't work on my PC regardless of what i try and believe me when I say I have taken extreme measures to make it work. So my hopes are that either someone can point me in the right direction on how to exchange an apk using only what tools I can find for my phone or in the direction of a kitchen online. For my phone I have installed: Root Explorer,File Manager and ZipSign2.

She's that picky? Tell her to get an iPhone. LOL
Even she is smart enough to know the first flip phone I ever purchased from Sprint way back when they finally got small enough to fit in your pocket is still better than the best Apple ever released.
However, with a little help I think I can make my life easier. I flashed Derp3D again and only 2 small things needed. First is the keyboard. How do I get the HTC back on and with dictionary? Last is how do I get the weather widget with sound? Those are the only things needed. Themes will be easy enough to handle.
Have you tried MikG v3.11 ? Uber Stable. Has a lot of Themes, and Mods available.

The newest Jellybread has the 9016 number blocked, or you can use Go SMS and blacklist it, plus everything else you mentioned works

The kitchen won't help you for fixing the things you want to fix )besides the fact that there isn't an online version). The kitchen just essentially makes it easier to do the things you're already doing. But EnergyROm is a Sense 3.5 ROM, which is not what the EVO natively comes with. So, there will ALWAYS be issues with it, like the VVM 9016 texts, no 4G, etc. And trying to swap things in from a Sense 3.0 ROM (Mik3D) will only cause more issues. I think you're going to have to "put your foot down" and let your daughter know she can either have a fully functional ROM that doesn't look exactly as she wants, or she can have the eye candy she wants without full functionality.
There are plenty of fully functional ROMs out there with a Sprint base that don't have the 9016 issue. Honestly, those all seem to be extremely minor issues to me. Sounds like you should just bite the bullet and get her an EVO LTE, lol.
I have seen a lot of good reviews of Kendall's ROM, though. But I'm going to assume that's not what your daughter is looking for. Sounds like she likes the look/widgets of Sense.
I remember back in the day I tried a sense 3.0 rom that didn't do the 9016 or whatever, but I don't see how that bugs her. Its just a text message that would only take 2 seconds to delete. When I ran those roms, it wasn't a big deal to me.
With the sense weather part, still didn't have a problem with that either. Just had to turn sound up.

[Q] New to the GS3, and I have some questions

Hey, so I just got a GS3 after coming from an Evo 4G LTE, and so far I'm loving it. Plus, this is my first Samsung phone, my previous 3 have all been HTC. (The many versions of the EVO) Anyway I do have a few questions that maybe someone can help me with.
1. I noticed that there are different settings for the vibration. Now, when I receive a txt it seems to do the basic ring vibration. I saw that there's an option to create your own vibration, which is pretty cool, but it didn't set for my txt messaging, perhaps I'm doing it wrong?
2. This might be just me or perhaps I'm just used to the keyboard on sense, but I'm noticing I'm making a lot of mistakes while typing. Lol, it's probably just me.
3. I love how samsungs threw in a lot of neat (or gimmicky) features. However, if I'm concerned about battery are there any I should turn off (I know motion is one, but I kinda like it)
4. Out of curiosity, what rom is everyone using? I'm debating whether to stay stock rooted, although I might switch to AOKP. Lol unlike sense, touchwiz really doesn't have a lot of issue with it.
5. Now if I do switch to AOKP or AOSP how is the camera quality?
Thanks in advanced!

1. No idea I haven't been on touchwiz since i got my phone
2. I hate the Samsung keyboard I switch to a ICS keyboard that's available in the market
3. Not sure. The only motion I ever left on was the swipe your palm to screen shot and I didn't noticed a decrease in battery. As long as you clear stuff in the task manager you should be fine
4. I've been on Paranoid Android for awhile. Touchwiz isn't as bad as people make it seem just not my style. A lot of cool looking touchwiz roms
5. Camera quality should be exactly the same except you lose certain features that are only available on the touchwiz

1. I am pretty sure the vibrate pattern is just for incoming calls not notifications even if you create a custom.
2. Yea lots of different keyboards mess around with a few find the one that fits you. I am using the new swiftkey flow and will not be looking back.
3. When on a TW rom I only use the swipe screenshots and hold phone to ear to call no battery issues for me. I delete S voice completely and disable other motion controls I dont need.
4. Currently running FreeGS3 3.0 really enjoying it. I spend most of my time on CM or other AOSP roms but if you are happy with TW for my phone anyways FreeGS3 has been very solid with the right amount of features and completely stable. The Aroma installer is easy and feature filled almost idiot proofs ROM installation.
5. As he said above the image quality will be fine just loose a few shiny du hickys in the camera ui
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm going to try CM and some other touchwiz roms.
Okay I have another question to. What is the purpose of the 0 folder inside of Scdard0. I noticed that some app data like Titanium Backup is defaulting there.
yeah im new to this phone as well and was wondering the same. The storage, extsd, and 0 thing throws me off sometimes. I'll get used to it though.

True! Actually I just found out some interesting information. Apparently the "0" folder holds all the information that was in the /sdcard folder before the jellybean update. Another user found it on their galaxy nexus. Oddly enough, most of the folders in mine were empty. Titanium Backup was the only one taking up space because for some reason it backed up there, I also had around 200mb in the android data folder, but I really had a hard time finding out where, so anyway I just ended up deleting it. So far no ill effects.

Yeah, I read this in another thread when a user couldn't find anything on their sdcard
Its weird why they would do that though, maybe to separate phone stuff from things that the user puts on their sdcard? Idk
By the way, just had to say this but I love your sig, the "life would be so much easier....." part
I love to code myself and I just found that really awesome lol
Haha thanks, it made me chuckle too when I first read it.

[Q] Text deletes itself as im trying to select it? (in YT app)

Hi. I noticed several times that either for almost no reason as I try to select my text im writing inside youtube app (dont use other apps/messaging to type much so I haven't seen it there) it just deletes it all. Mostly as im about to finish dragging the cursor to select it all or to replace the cursor. Whats happening here? WHy is it auto deleting stuff as im trying to copy or edit it? Is this my note 4 only? I noticed the clipboard is trash now too and doesn't save much of anything. I noticed the google devs have almost completely destroyed the reasons anyone would ever buy an android (starting with the recent lockdowns and other evidence they are working against the people who made them famous). Is this something I should expect to see fixed? Is it some gimmicky garbage like a swipe keyboard thats hidden (even though I thought I turned that off).. I would hate to have to switch to crapple, but when their competition is pure sh*t id rather have crap trendies love than pure sh*t the sons and daughters of the trendies love.
Please help me figure out my options here. Srry for getting off track but im sick of every android I get being semi better hardware and much worse software than before.

Im determined to keep this phone... Looking to "upgrade" it in certain ways

But ive heard that earlier versions of android can be security risks... is that true? What if you never do anything critical like banking on your phone?
Ive been toying with the idea of trying a custom rom (that someone else already built lol), but, i absolutely despise the standard android toggles that are only like 3 per row and take up the whole screen. theyre massive. i LOVE how the stock touchwiz keeps everything all on the one screen in the notification drawer. Are there any roms that use this same compact design? without having the 2 screens?
ive also been toying with trying to add ram using a partitioned SD card. but i have a few quesitons about that too. first being that ive heard that you cant access your SD card by computer anymore.... so with that being the case, how do you go about backing up the data on your SD card just in case the card fails? has anyone done this successfully with this phone?
i love the small physical size of this phone, i have small hands. and newer phones, much like roller coasters, are shooting for the biggest tallest on the market it seems. im an ambidextrous swiper so even to smoosh the keyboard to one side is a pain... id be forever going into settings to switch sides. i have a tablet i do this with, its quite irritating. but the glide i can reach using either hand on full width for the keyboard. and once in a while, i do still use the physical keys
oh! also... i have played with an S5 mini (but a fake i suspect)... my captivate glide does certain things, like greenify apps, faster... for it being newer and higher ram (a bit) it doesnt seem all that... higher. so at least for the time being, im going to stick with my good ol captivate glide. the s5's haptic feedback is lousy too and thats become a feature that i just cant live without (for swipe and typing especially, but i like it for the touch buttons too). also not a fan at all of the tiles for notifications, i much prefer just having the icon up in the corner. and my screen lock does something the new one doesnt... it doesnt instantly require your pattern again even though you did power the screen off with the button. so many little things, i just LOVE about captivate glide.
Ive rambled a little but i hope anyone who has tried can point me to the best rom, if im not best off with sticking with stock touchwiz, which is what ive done until now.
if anyone still also using this phone has any tips that would be great
I'm also determined to keep it, but primary because of the hardware keyboard, which you seemingly are not using?
If you have become accustomed to your current setup, bear with it as long as you can. Yes custom ROMs are fun and glorious, but flashing and configuring can be a PITA and it doesn't sound you're the tech-savy nerd willing to fight it through.
So just go on & stick with the stock ROM. However if you can, do not use the internal stock browser but a recent Chrome version because of the security fixes it will contain.
