Hi,
at some point the new roms started to include a program called "Locations" or HTC Locations, which starts now everytime i click on an address of any contact instead of googlemaps. Since I have a different navigation program and i don't like Locations, is there a way of switching the standard back to googlemaps or, even better, to get rid of Locations at all?
Thx
Go to settings > applications > manage applications > locations and look for "Launch By Default" and click Clear Defaults and try again.
tried that first, that button says "no standards set" and is greyed out... i tried deleting the data for Locations but that didn't help

Hi all,
I'm trying to work out exactly what "Clear on-device search history" actually does.
I selected it once, in an attempt to clear the search bar widget, unsuccessfully, and it's been greyed out since. It has had no effect on the search bar, online web history, browser, etc. Doing some searches, reboots, etc hasn't caused this option to become available since.
Forum searches have turned up nothing, and there's only 2 results on a Google search relating to it. So if it doesn't seem to clear the bar, what does it actually do?
To find the option: Press the search bar > 3 dots menu > Settings > Google Search. It's listed in there.
Also, if anyone has worked out how to clear the bar, please do tell I found a thread that referred to the Privacy menu in the 3 dots (still under search) but it only lists "Searchable Items" and "Google Search".
Thanks,
GDog.
GNex 4.0.1 Australian, no updates available.
TL;DR: what "Clear on-device search history" does?
You clear the search bar by going in the browser settings and clearing history.

Thanks WayneB, however for some reason it isn't effecting the home-screen search bar when I clear it there. When I clear it in the browser it solves the browser search history, but not the one on the home-screen.
I've now just realized that there is a two-fold thing going on in this bar I'm not understanding properly. If I let the phone sit for a few secs, I get a set of 'X's next to the entries so I can clear the web search entry. this is fine for most of the issue that I have.
The ones that I'm unable to clear appear to be the 'on-phone content' results (e.g. contacts/music) that are appearing in the history. I hadn't realized that they were also in the list, and while the web searches cleared, these ones didn't.
I've managed to work out what was up with the "Clear on-device.." option being greyed out, it only functions when the Web Search options are disabled. Disabling Web search caused it to pop up active again. Answers that question at least.

Something about ICS makes me feel like a muppet. I'm fine with 2.0-2.3, I've cooked my own roms and all, but I seem to get lost trying to find simple things on 4.0... I'll grow into it eventually...

Thanks for the help
Anyone got any ideas for getting this to work with google music? I want my cloud with voice commands.
Sent from my SGH-T999
It won't work for Google Music. Only the Samsung stock music app
Seems silly they'd put this option in our main settings and not application local if it wasn't intended for developers as an option.

Anyone know if this is part of S-Voice or which APK?
I have removed lots of system apps, long ago, and now realized this option is gone and I don't know which system app to restore.
Thanks.
go to Settings > Language and input, and set the 'Voice cmd for apps' toggle to on. You can also tap on that entry to see what commands are available and select which ones you want to activate.

Nice of you to help but you are missing the point - these option do not appear on my device in the Input/Languages screen.
Or atleast they didn't until I restored SVoice
I recently had some trouble with Google Now literally searching for Voice Controls. I have seen other people having issues with this as well, but no viable solution seems to had been found. Untill now. Which I stumbled upon accidentally. XD
A Example of the issue is say, if I say "Set Timer for 10 minutes", it would literally search the web for that phrase. Basically, somehow that phase got added to the "web search" portion of your search history. If your having this occur with 1 or more of your voice control options then my solution should fix it up.
Solution 1. Reinstall Google Search, this can be done by going to the Play Store, going into My Apps, and simply uninstalling and installing the Google Search application. *This will require you setting up Google Now again, but all of your settings should be stored in the cloud*
If this restores the missing Voice Command functions, then you are all set. However, if your like me and it still just is not doing the command you want then this next step will clear it up.
Solution 2. Open Google Now > Press the settings button > Tap Settings > "Privacy & accounts" > Then turn OFF "Web History", then turn it back on again.
Congratulations, what Voice Commands were still missing after re-installation of Google Search should now be working. Basically turning off Web History caused Google Now to re-sync with the cloud and correct the issue.
I've tried following the guide I found below but still couldn't get it to show up. It comes up in the play store settings but not ADM. My location is turned on high accuracy and my gps functions completely fine. Next thing I'll try is a full factory wipe but I hope it doesn't come to that.
Anyone have an idea?
Code:
Clear data for the following apps:
Play Store
Download Manager
Google Services Framework
Restart your phone.
Fire up the Play Store app.
Wait for the device to show again on the web Play Store. It will appear under Settings > Devices. It may take a half-hour to several hours to appear.
When your phone has shown up in the Play Store with the date registered as today's date, proceed with the next steps, but not before.
Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manage(security).
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All > Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and Security and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.
Just remember do this in order, also only do this on devices which are not showing in ADM app and wait till you see device on web at play store devices before completing stick to the order.
I have exactly the same problem, the only work around I could find was to set up a new Google account just for device manager; it's not ideal but it works. I am pretty sure I maxed out my main account with activations, annoying problem I wish I could find a proper solution.
I've had this issue since the 2nd or 3rd dp. Google play services would force close out of nowhere. Then i would go into settings and see that my account backup is not enabled. It's grayed out and I can't pick the google account. The only way to get it back to show up is when I clear the cache and data of google play services and reboot the phone. However it would start crashing again and I would have to pair my watch again (moto 360 and lg g watch r). So yesterday I tried to figure out the culprit and it was google fit. When I uninstalled it everything is fine and when I reinstalled it all hell break loose. I was just wondering if anyone else having this issue?

I did try it and it still crashes
I had the same problem with Fit on my pixel. Here's what Google support sent me...
I recommend trying these basic troubleshooting steps:
Connect to a strong internet connection to access and download from the Play Store:
Try switching your internet connection to another Wi-Fi/cellular network. Also try accessing your network from a different location. Check if your signal strength improves and if you can browse web sites.
Force your device to check in to Google servers to gain full access to the Play Store:
Go to Phone > Dialpad (10 dot icon) and dial *#*#CHECKIN#*#* (*#*#2432546#*#*). Do not start the call. The numbers you entered should disappear.
Within 2 minutes, you should receive a "checkin successful" notification.
If this doesn't work, you can also force a check in by manually changing the date and time:
Go to Settings > Date & time.
If you see any of the following menu items, turn them off:
Automatic date & time
Automatic time zone
Tap Set date and Set time and manually change the date and time so they're incorrect.
Tap Home (the circle at the bottom of your screen) and repeat steps 1-2.
Turn Automatic date & time and Automatic time zone back on.
Reboot your device:
Press and hold the power button and tap “Power off” when it appears.
Once the phone powers off, press and hold the power button until the device powers on.
If the issue persists, remove and re-add your Google account:
Note: This may delete settings and un-synced in-app content. However, your purchases and synced data (Gmail, Google contacts, etc.) are tied to your account and will be available after re-adding your account. Make sure you remember your account password because you'll need to log back in after re-adding your account.
Remove your account:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Google and tap the name of the account you wish to remove.
Tap More (three vertical dots) and Remove account. Tap Remove account again to confirm account removal.
Add your account back to your device:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account.
Select Google and enter your account information.
If the issue persists, clear the cache and data of the Play Store app:
Navigate to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage.
Tap Clear data > OK.
Tap Clear cache.
Note: this may reset Play Store settings. After clearing cache and data of the Play Store app, double check your settings: open Play Store > Menu (3 horizontal bars) > Settings.
If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall Play Store app updates:
Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store.
Tap More (3 vertical dots) > Uninstall updates > OK.
Launch the Google Play store app, then tap Home (circle icon at the bottom of the screen).
Wait 5-10 minutes for the app to self-update and relaunch Google Play.

Automatic Force Checking in to Google servers is what worked for me. Hope it works for you too.
