Sprint navigation - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since I upgraded to cynagon frozen rom I don't have sprint navigation. Is there an apk I can download to get it back?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

No, but to be honest there isn't much point since Google maps navigation is far superior.

I'm one who likes Sprint Nav (Telenav) more than google maps/navigation. Take a look at the first post in the thread titled "Sprint Navigator is now TeleNav GPS navigator!" (in this forum). It has a link to the apk you are looking for.

I'm pretty sure that the Sprint Navigation app is dependent on parts of the twiz framework, in which case it wouldn't work. Just look at how it's broken on ACS's Syndicate Rom.

What about this thread?

I haven't noticed any problems with it and I am on ACS Syndicate 1.10. I'll try it again when I am out today and report if I have a problem, but I haven't noticed any issues to this point with sprint telenav on syndicate.

[Q] Rosies question

I see all these different Rosie set ups and I am confused as to if they are all interchangeable or not. I am currently on Koni's S3 but I do not see much on different Rosies, most post are for Myns or Miks.
Thank you
I asked TommyTomatoe about this recently. He said all of the should world (not the z based roms rosies). I haven't tested them out yet though. He said that the ones for Kings rom will definitely work

Keep in mind that those mods are specific to the rom they were made for. Still, you can use them however, because the framework is involved, you may end up changing more than just the rosie. For example, I flashed a gingerbread rosie made for Myn's RLS5 while I was using a rooted deodexed stock rom and although I did get the gingerbread rosie, my theme had changed among other things to that of RLS5.

S3 is a pretty solid rom, im really surprised there isn't much theme support for it.
Well, I guess my next question is; where do I find the bar to do it myself?

Download the theme or ROM that has the bar that you like. You will find it in system/framework/com.htc.resources.apk/res/drawable-port-hdpi. good luck and may the force be with you.
BTW if your ROM has landscape you will need /drawable-land-hdpi as well.

Epic 2.2 and touchwiz...

Hey all just had a quick question about the latest update. I used to have an epic awhile back when they was on 2.1 and noticed that we had a very dumbed down version of touchwiz.
So my question is with the latest os did they update the epic touchwiz to full like the vibrant and etc...
Reason I ask is I just bought an epic because I use my phone for gaming a lot and my evo is lag city on most new games with it's current gpu...
Thanks everybody in advance!

There was not a lot of changes in Touchwiz with the Froyo 2.2 upgrade other than the ability to order applications anyway you want on the Apllications pages. Plus adding a sort function and swapping out of docked applications.

And the ui changed. Ued to be light blue popups, now they are that nice dark blue. Some notification icons changed. All the icons for stock apps(messaging, email, etc) now have the correct touchwiz equivelant, instead of the android default. We got the touchwiz music player now, with notification controls. Unfortunately, the lockscreen did not change at all. The touchwiz home app now has pinch-to-zoom previews, and can have 1-7 screens. We also have the touchwiz messaging app, with blue and yellow chat bubbles. I think that covers everything.
Will edit if i remember anything.

Network: unknown

Is there any way to get the network back to saying sprint so I can use the nascar app. I'm on era revolt ec05 and the honeycomb fusion 1.2 theme
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I have used all the ERA ROMs but that one. Currently on RandomROM EG22 with EH17modem. I haven't had a problem using mine. Use it every Race Day. How are you installing it back after flashing a ROM?
Sent from my Acer Iconia A500 running HoneyVillain 1.1 HC 3.2 for A501, OC'd 1.5GHz
i was running hurricane 1.6, but i kept running into problems. i odin back to ec05 and then flashed the revolt ec05 rom, but i tried 2 other ec05 roms and they all said unknown for the network
I have the same problem. It started with trying to reset the network name after I flashed SFR 1.2. Wanted to change the name from ACS back to Sprint, but never got that to work, so I flashed Emotionless Beast to use the EB network fix. Still a no go. Did a clean flash of SFR 1.2 , used the network fix and it did change it until I flashed Honeycomb Fusion. Now there's no name at all in the pull down and the phone info status reads as "unknown." Is there a way to fix this so the Sprint apps are useable?
well I'm gonna hop back to eh17, hopefully the official release comes out soon

running SRF 1.2 w/Genocide 1.1. been having this exact same problem since installing the honeycomb fusion 1.2 theme. network is permanently listed as unknown and the pulldown "ACS" is gone. kind of annoying that installing one new thing breaks something else but that seems to be the way with ROMS & themes on the Epic.

The reason it says ACS in the stock sfr rom is cause they edited there framework to say that. All the themes are based on maddogins 6 lock framework where he left that line blank. Thts why when you flash themes it changes.

How easy is it for us to change this on any setup? I wouldn't mind making the change myself if I knew where to edit the script. I like to jump around to different roms often, and that knowledge would be very useful.
Edit: i also just saw this discussion in the hfe thread. I'll keep my eye on both.

What do yu have to have for it to work? Only ICS? I thought I saw a complete theme that had it for GB, but I could have been mistaken... oh well, TW doesn't hurt my feelings at all.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I am in the exact same boat, down to the ROM and everything. I love everything about CleanGB except I'd like to have more lockscreen functions (especially camera!).
Widgetlocker is great because you can customize it down to the last inch, but I didn't like the idle resource and battery drain. Same with the Magic Locker ICS theme (which is great because it has calls and SMS notification counts built in, and it's free). But both are simply apps that float on top.
Until there's an ICS style lock that I can zip into, I guess I'll go back to the stock touchwiz. Thanks Kenny.

Widgetlocker uses 5-6mb of ram and does not affect performance or battery. That's less ram than swype and just barely more than vvm.

May have to try out the widgetlocker, but would rather have a straightup lockscreen. I don't understand why it couldn't be ported over, though.

Aha. I found out why it seemed to be draining the battery faster. I've been using juice defender to cut 3G when the screen is off. The problem is that JD won't recognize these apps as a true screenlock, so it doesn't turn off 3G.
I recently bought tasker so I'll try learning how to use that for controlling connectivity instead.

I hear tasker> jd. In fact I hear all around jd is junk. Even used it myself once and it definitely did nothing to help.

Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I'm happy with my setup your happy with yours. It's all good.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
Well, JD worked well enough for me to notice a drastic difference in my battery idle. With the JD inactivated and 3G hooked up, I would drain 4-5% per hour at idle. Cutting idle 3G made for a much nicer 1% per hour.
Tasker is much more controllable. Now I have it set up so that only apps that require data turn on 3G when activated. This is great because JD only toggled connectivity with the screen status. Now I can use the camera, text, or play games without 3G turning on at all. There is a 2 second lag for switching on 3G that I usually have to refresh for, but the kill speed after exiting is instantaneous. Great program.
Don't mean to hijack, I know this is moving away from the OP's (and my) question. Let's hear it for a baked-in ICS lock coming soon!

Easy-to-use ROM?

Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.
Probably miui

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!

Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

You can just keep stock and go dead simple with i launcher. It will obviously have no bugs (its stock). its just an iphone launcher
