Does setpcu really work? With making battery better. I have it set with profiles just not sure if its really helping or making it worse.

I dont think it is really needed with the CPU settings in CM7 now. Does the same thing for the most part im guessing?
you can do baisic clock scaling from within cm7 settings. as for profiles, if you have a custom kernel and run smartass (on tiamat) or savagedzen (on savaged-zen) governers, you shouldn't need it. those governers do basically the same thing, just smarter.
I was wondering the same thing. On sense roms with setcpu I could easily go a whole day and still have 50% battery left. With cm7 I can only go about 14 hours before its completely dead. The odd thing, I have a profile in setcpu to lower the speed to 245 (the min) below 50%. On sense, I can totally notice it slow down, and can totally notice the battery draining much slower below 50. With cm7, I don't notice any slow down and the battery will actually drop quicker below 50, much quicker than if the battery is above 50. I am using whatever kernal cm7 came with

Try using Tiamat or SavagedZen. I get great battery life on both. You would definitely benefit more from an SBC kernel, but you will still get better battery life with the non-sbc builds of those kernels as well. Which you choose is up to you. Despite a bad name, most users have no problem with SBC kernels. However, the risk is still there. I'll take my battery possibly pooping out early for the extra hours I get out of SBC.
Once you've flashed whatever kernel you want to use, set the governor to smartass (or SavagedZen, if that's what you're using).

Overclocking to 1401 on demand
I use power amp with scrobbing to last fm for probably an hour or two when not charging, while playing games that aren't to elaborate (boring stuff like sudoko) during my commute to/from work, which is probably my heaviest usage. I also do the same music set up while at work but I'm plugged in most of the time for that and volume is way down. Calls range from 30 min to an hour a day. Some intermittent web and video streaming while at home and on wifi. Typically only on wifi when at home, only when I need heavy data. Data sync is turned off when I'm not charging unless I want to sync.
I have profiles of 368/245 while sleeping, 75 priority; 738/245 when temp is 40.5 C, 60 Priority, 1401/245 when plugged and fully charged, 50; 368/245 when battery less than 10, 60; 806/245 when battery less than 40, 50 priority.
I'm thinking the fully charged one is probably redundant. Should I raise the priority on some of them?

I always set temp as the highest priority however i OC a lot higher then you. What oc kernel are you useing? This makes a huge difference some have a lot more steps which allow better power use. Pershoot is the most efficient imo right now.

I think I'm just using the cyogen mod kernel...but I'm new at this so I am a little clueless on that part. I did set higher priority on the temp and the screen off, got rid of the charging profile. I'm at 13% battery after about 15 hours, which isn't horrible but not the 30 hours some folks have been posting.

had to dig back to find a good thread to post this on....
so I'm really leaning toward deciding that setcpu profiles do more harm than good in terms of battery. I had profiles set for temp, screen off, charging, battery below 30, and battery below 10. its pretty clear to me now that it wasn't helping my battery. and the only time I even had it overclocked was while charging.
next I'm going to just enable only a screen off profile, and see if having setcpu monitor for less profiles makes a difference. i'm not going to overclock at all. we'll see what happens.
btw I've had a rooted android phone since the G1 so its not like I don't have experience with setcpu. seems that setcpu affects different phones in different ways. so I'm still figuring out how it is on the G2.
anyone have any thoughts on this?

really? I hadn't heard that. is this confirmed?
though, it never seemed to make all that much sense anyway, as I wouldn'y think there would be any reason for the cpu not to remain at a low freq with the screen off
The screen off profile works for me. I just set to "ondemand". Lately I've been using "cpu tuner" instead and have noticed better battery life then with set cpu. Plus with cpu tuner you get more profile options.

To be honest, not sure if its the case for you but profiles was the cause of my battery life drain. I took off all profiles and only kept screen off. Even since I did that I get about 24 hours + of battery.

I had a similar experience. The more profiles I had enabled, the faster my battery would drain.
I am using the same setup now and have great battery life. Even with heavy usage I can make it through the entire day without needing a charge.
Running On Demand 1209/245 and screen off 245/245.
Haha this was an old thread. I'm now on CM7 nightlies and would say that in my experience I've had the best battery life running no profiles whatsoever in setcpu. I only overclock to 1017 and it's been pretty snappy still. My experience in going higher than this on CM7 has lead to issues with wake, temperature and battery drain. I personally Have no need for more than 1017.

agreed. this setcpu stuff did not help at my device. nor did it work reliant.
i am managing 1day with heavy use and a full weekend with moderate use without any "tuning".
that is enough for me.
I used setcpu for awhile, but I have been much happier using cpu tuner and "power control".
My battery life is increased by 12 to 24hrs. The key for me is really using power control to manage the screen brightness and under clocking rather than overclocking. The only time I found overclocking usedful was when playing fifa10.

Hi I've been looking around to find good kernals while running cyanogen mod 7 rc4. Some of the kernals I install like netatchy gives the screen a weird flickering. Can someone suggest a good kernal that's overclockable and stable. Thanks
Netarcys kernel really isn't for cm7 that's probably why its flickering. You should try savage zens latest sbc or non sbc kernel or tiamats sbc kernel both are pretty good. I'm running the tiamat sbc 3.3.4(great battery life) and I'm pretty happy with it.
Tiamat link. Be sure to get the evo version because he does kernels for the incredible also.

In a nutshell, sbc is a method of charging that allows you to "fully"(trickle) charge your battery. Normal kernels really only let you charge to about 90% for safety measures; while sbc lets you fully charge letting your battery completely fill. There's a few threads that talk about it if you search around to get more "details". I've been using them for months without any problems whatsoever. Good luck

That happens to me sometimes but not all the time. I believe that's still a problem with cm7 in general though. For best results I recommended going to settings/ cyanogenmod settings/ performance/CPU settings then use the "smart ass" governor. It has provided me with the best overall battery/performance. I also have my min freq at 245 and max freq at 1152.
Those are also my settings, I've discovered my evo can't go beyond 1.15ghz without locking up. I've been trying to get to 1.2 but no go

I don't really put so much stock in scores anymore they don't mean anything to be honest. Dirk used to be a score whore but I just removed the apps so I wouldn't worry about it anymore. I came to terms that my scores won't go much higher then what they already were. Just ran 40 mflops and 1220 bench.
Yeah I just like the braging rights, hopefully they can figure how to overclock the gpu soon tho

Bragging rights how's this for bragging rights; my 12 year old cousin has a tmobile g2(newer processor) which is stock clocked at only 800mhz. His phone scores a 60 on linpack and over 1500 on benchmark and its not even rooted lol. This is why I don't care about scores anymore
I just died a little inside :/ lol I wanna upgrade to the evo 3d soon tho and that's a dual core

I just wanna correct this misconception because it led me astray and it took a good amount of research to realize this was wrong.
All kernels will charge the phone to 100%. That's not an issue. What happens is, once they are charged to 100%, they start draining battery again, and coupled with the fact that li-ions inherently lose charge over time, and the fact that most people haven't conditioned their battery's memory by properly charging it, by the time you pull your phone off the charger it's already lost that 10% (give or take).
Trickle charging hopes to fix this by "trickling" a small charge into the battery constantly once it hits 100%, to compensate for discharge, so that it stays at 100%. The problem with this is, it pushes a current through the battery constantly, and that tends to shorten the life of lithium-ion batteries over time. You may get better immediate battery life off the charger, but you'll kill your battery quicker. Come months from now, your battery life isn't going to be what it should, whether you notice it or not.
If you want to minimize the discharge, you can take a couple safer steps:
- Condition your battery. Charge it to a true 100%. This will mean turning the phone off and on a few times while it's on the charger to make sure it's actually at 100%. Then completely discharge it until the phone cannot turn back on. Do this a couple times in a row, and repeat every month or so. This conditions your li-ion battery's internal charging memory so it knows its true charge potential.
- Charge your phone while it's off. It won't drain nearly as much battery this way, so when you're ready to take it off the charger it'll be much fresher.
- Avoid prolonged charging and continuous charging, because it can confuse the li-ion's internal charging memory. Rather than re-charging it when it hits 60%, let it drain as low as possible before you bother recharging it. Bursts of short charges don't harm the battery, but they make it "forget" how much it can be charged.
In short, SBC kernels are bad for your battery.

Also, Savaged-Zen 1.0.1 BFS no-SBC has been the best kernel I've found for the Evo 4G. Granted I haven't had this thing that long and there may be another gem lying around somewhere, but given the popularity of SZ, I doubt it. It's a very good, smooth kernel. It's giving me the best performance of what I've tried (most of the popular ones).
As for CFS vs BFS, flip a coin. Some will swear CFS is smoother, others will swear BFS is supposed to be smoother. BFS gives me more responsiveness personally, but I think it mostly depends on your workload. I keep scarcely-used tasks killed and I don't use widgets, so the lack of many processes may be what makes BFS better for me. Try both and see which feels smoother in daily use.

That's a great plan man. I visited the savage zen kernel thread earlier and some are complaing about their newest build causing charging issues or something along with 100% wake time idk. If you give it a shot use their 1.0.0 instead of the 1.0.1. Just give the kernels about a week and see how well they hold up. Its mainly about personal preference(sbc or non sbc) I'm actually testing the tiamat sbc but I was previously on savage zen. I like to give all kernels a chance(1 or 2 weeks) to see how well my phone performs with them.
Ok well ill just wait till Friday to install a new one then and see how the Zen works out

Tiamat kernel plays nice.
It can also be undervolted additionally.
Right now I'm running CM7 Stable, and I use the Savage Zen kernel (no SBC). I get pretty decent battery life out of it by using SetCPU and setting it to 245 min/max when the screen is off and around 245-1000~ when it's on; this allows me to get great performance while still maintaining decent battery.
savaged zen 2.0.0. my phone's been through 2 nights. played quite a few games. checked facebook a bunch. used flashlight a few times. email, xda, calls. 1 day 11 hours and still like 10 percent left. runnign on savaged zen governer. that's pretty damn good.
then again, i did fall asleep wiht it on and not charging twice. at least we know it sleeps well...
played with the SZ governor for a little bit the other day, and found it pretty nice.
ended up switching back to tiamat and smartass though.
also currently testing and trying out SBC just to see how it behaves. easily noticing that extra percentage of battery that gets pushed to charge due to the trickle charge vs a non-SBC kernal.
I'm visitng here from the Samsung Captivate forum. I flashed CM7 to my girlfriend's EVO last night and she is experiencing horrid battery life. I turned off the "back up to google" options in the privacy menu that is said to be starting Android system every time the dialer is used, which is said to use up excessive battery power.
I'm about to flash tiamat's latest kernel. I'll report back on how it goes.
I flashed back to CM7 the other day. I was having issues, so i completely reformattetd everything. Went back to stock, unrooted, re-roooted, and flashed cm7. I'm getting great battery life with CM7 + the tiamat kernel.
As of right now: 25 hours, 19 minutes of uptime with 68% of my battery life remaining.
ETA: This is using the 3500mah seido extended battery.
My girlfriend is getting much improved battery life with tiamats 3.3.7 kernel

i'm on Kings Unleashed GBR3 NEON-CM7 using tiamat 3.3.7 sbc kernel and i love it! i am getting almost 35hrs on one charge!
does anyone use these? if so what have you set yours at? mine are sampling rate (45000), up threshold (93%), and power save bias (140). im looking for battery life from anywhere and if you could give me insight to the best settings, without much lag, id be appreciative and thank you.

For battery life, I'd recommend a custom kernel. If you don't want to do that, go to profiles and add one for screen off. Make it underclock to 384MHZ min and max. This saves battery a ton.

While I don't know the exact answer to your question -- I have heard that SetCPU doesn't do an incredible amount for the Incredible (no pun intended).
If you're looking for battery life, I'd probably look around (maybe Google?) for people who know how much to underclock it while the phone is not in use -- I know capping the processes really helps the battery life.

No, it shouldn't affect it. For the most drastic battery life saver, I would consider installing a custom ROM such as skyraider 4.0. I used my phone quite a bit today and lost only 30% battery. I do have an extended battery, but still.

i have found the best kernel/rom combo for me that saves battery is MIUI and chad's incredikernel. with that kernel, your screen off will be 128 (versus 245) and it works extremely well. you will get a good full day of use, trust me..
Hi, I was wondering if it's typical for the Evo's battery to take a rather large dip upon unlocking it after not using it for awhile but keeping it on. Around 15% under within the few minutes that I used it after waking it up from maybe about 4 hours or so of not using it and just keeping it locked without any phone calls or other disruptions.
Why does it seem to want to ramp up something like crazy when turning the phone on after not using it for awhile? Or does it actually need to do that to function? Thinking about trying out the conservative governor and jacking up the minimum MHz so the performance isn't horrid.
Using CM7.0.3.1 with SZen, have tried the SZ, smartass, and InteractiveX (current) governors.
Radios and what not are all up to date.
Trying other governors doesn't seem to help this issue at all (if it is an issue).
tried a reflash? I think i had some battery issues the first time i installed CM7. I currently use SZ 2.1 i think with SBC and BFS. My governer profile is set on savagezen and I get pretty good battery life. My phone never has huge battery drops unless I'm using the ever living crap out of it.
Nah, I had a 100% clean flash two times over, I reflashed last time for a different problem which was fixed because i was messing around with settings, not from the system/kernel. I mean I could reflash it again but I've had tons of clean flashes and always have noticed the issue, now that mostly everything else is fixed for me I'm getting around to this issue to see if it even is one.
Same problem drops 5% with in 2 minutes, I've calibrated tried cm7, miui, and stock they all do it...even bought a new battery...

Mine doesn't necessarily drop a certain % in a certain way/timeframe, just a large dip after not using it for awhile. As if it's taking an enormous amount of resources to try and wake itself back up and stay awake after being asleep for so long.

did you re-calibrate you battery stats???
This is w an extended battery and an amount of usage today...its all about finding the right combo.
I reset battery stats every new kernel/ROM I change. Is it useful for any reason to reset after switching governors? I'm going to try Tiamat next probably.

I use SZ as well, doesn't help it.
Or rather, there's no immediate drop like i said for me. Just quickly depletes after a long wait.

What do you use out of curiosity? I'd love for mine to have a steady drop like that instead of a massive dip, 8hrs on a very decent amount of use too. Even with the extended battery that seems like so much. Unless the extended is literally double the life?
