Why does it do this?

Has it been secret running in the background?

looks like a memory leak

A memory leak? And I don't know if it was running in the background. Manage apps would tell me?

When you are exiting Miren you have to hit the menu button and select exit app or it will continue to run in the background.

You could also use the long press back button if on CM7.

I guess I kinda have a bad internet habit of just pressing home. I use back to close for kik and other things I don't want open. I'll try getting use to that. Stupid auto brightness setting didn't help. I really like miren. I don't wanna ditch it for being a hog.

It could be a memory leak, but I don't think so.
In reality, the phone is calling back to china to report your location and all your activities...

Ok, just kidding. I have a suspicion that it's all the rss feeds updating every so often (too often). I had the same issue when I first started using miren. I couldn't figure out what the damn thing was doing in the background, until closely examining my wifi activity. I posted about it in one of the miren threads, but the fix is to delete all the rss feeds that are preconfigured when you install the app.

Even when exiting the app properly, it still continues to run in the background. This usually doesn't bother me, but I would use it for ten minutes & it would account for at least 30% of my battery use over eight hours. I haven't used it in a while, though, so it could be different now.

I've been doing testing for Maxthon so having 6 or 7 browsers on my phone for comparisions is a must. Here's what I've noticed.
Installed Miren and without even starting it, it ran in the background. Ok let's reboot, same thing. Alright Miren, enough is enough, terminate process. 5 minutes later there it was running again. Set my task killer to "I hate Miren" and then my task killer replaced Miren for usage because all it did was keep killing Miren. I haven't really looked into why but can say that this is normal for Miren.

Random status bar ads (fixed) and screen sometimes not waking.

Can anybody tell me what this is or how I could find out be it task manager or whatever... It appears every now and then whenever I'm connected to the web for an extended period of time. It stayed even after killing all programs via go launcher task manager

Do you have a music downloader on your phone? If you do, clear its app data and it will most likely go away.
If you don't have one or it doesn't work, then download Airpush and it will pinpoint the source
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
It was the music downloaded that was doing that for me. If you have it uninstall it. If you need a need a new one search for "music junk.apk" on 4shared.com. worked for me!

I just use YouTube downloader and save HD music vids as mp3 only it rips the HD audio and trashes the video most songs end up about 4-7mb with excellent quality

Thanks! Haven't seen any since I cleared the data.. also downloaded Airpush and found out some other apps were making different ads pop up which is useful info...
I guess I'll ask a second question while I've already got this thread: Does anyone know if WidgetLocker could cause the phone to not wake when the button is pressed, or perhaps anything else that could cause it.. I sometimes have to plug the charger in so that the screen comes on and after that it's okay. It's fine when i'm at home but potentially quite a major inconvenience.
WidgetLocker has randomly given me all kinds of odd issues not waking the screen, not being locked when woken up, changing themes on its own, moving or deleting Widgets finally it got sidelined for go locker now that it supports custom shortcuts

If you don't mind me asking, how do you do this? I used to have a program that I found on the Market named YouTube downloader, but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Can you use lockscreen widgets (like poweramp) with go locker? I had it once before and couldn't very effectively, so I used WL because I could..

Ever get your homepage hijacked by a different search engine?

I just restored an EL29 Android and fired up the stock browser to do a Google search since I set Google.com as my homepage. It got changed to a different site that looked similar to Google but wasn't.

I just downloaded an antivirus app, I might do a second one just to make sure, and will run it once I finish with this post. I will Google the site to see if anyone else experienced this. I've never seen this before.
Edit: Ran Google search and some people were saying they got it from brightest flashlight. I did dl it and run it to see if I had and screen burn in (I did :-( ). I had already uninstalled the program before running the browser. At the bottom of the dev's page on g play, it said the app adds a search shortcut to your home screen and changes your default browser homepage. I couldn't recreate this behavior. If this is/was true, this is very uncool of the dev company. I didn't see it in the bottom of the description in the play market because there was a lot of text there. Reading the user agreement was kind of counter productive. What I mean is when you run the app for the first time, it turns on the camera led and brings up the EULA. You can't read it and turn off the led. So, read the EULA but shorten the lifespan of your camera led. Nice. I font know if that was the guilty app for me either. Scan turned up nothing but something inside the autoroot.zip file I downloaded and have on the card. Something about elf:looter-h (pub).
Happened to me before but i caught really fast too ...i think it has to do with those wierd third party apps you manually install ...some can be screwy man!

U have malware....search airpush in the market and it will show u an app that will detect what is on ur phone causing the issue.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Ran airpush detector and it found nothing. Addons detector found lots but they were from legitimate apps. I'm not running any warez either. Slideme.org has gave me crap before from one of their apps offered. I forgot what it was.
That sucks. Guess u never know what's being downloaded and how many employees leave good reviews for an app. Best bet is only DL stuff from devs that have several apps with good reviews, like teslacoil.

Facebook showing GPS usage when it's disabled (4.2.1)?

Why does the GPS area in the screenshot show over 90 minutes of usage when I have GPS turned off? Any ideas?

Facebook has been long known to be a poorly coded app (even the newest version) I've stuck to using the browser only because it's so buggy. I'd chalk it up to that...
Turn location off inside settings of app.

The lastest build of their app is by far the worst I have used personally. Someone posted an older build which does not have as many features, but it is way less buggy.
LMK if you want a link.

same issue!
im seeing the same problem on my phone now, simply annoying. its my #1 battery drain even without using the phone or app.
app can be completely off, not on process list, gps turned off, location turned off in app, still goes up! might start using the mobile site instead of app.... until this can be fixed

That's exactly what was happening with my phone. I've been using the app that dschreiber69 provided earlier in this thread, but because Facebook eats so much battery on this phone I haven't been using it much anymore. Furthermore, I haven't been using Facebook much on either my phone or a computer. I'm getting sick of it, same crap every day. Nothing new. Blah.

"Task killers aren’t just useless – they can reduce performance. If a task killer removes an app from your RAM and you open that app again, the app will be slower to load as Android is forced to load it from your device’s storage. This will also use more battery power than if you just left the app in your RAM in the first place. Some apps will automatically restart after the task killer quits them, using more CPU and battery resources. "

As I understand it swiping apps away only tells the system that is acceptable to free those apps from memory early, but it doesn't necessarily " kill" that app immediately. The recent app list talks with the system whereas the task killers typically just force close the app.
Sent from my Nexus 4
Yup. Swiping the apps do not necessarily kill them.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I still use advanced task killer with 4.2.1, and my battery life is double that of the times I don't use it.....this is just another one of those conspiracy theories with no evidence to back up the claims If I put my phone down after using google maps, my battery will die within 2 hours, even if I just unplugged it after fully charging to 100%.....if I kill maps, my battery will last me another 8 hours of normal use.
....and remember....itr's not always about battery life with task killers. New apps are RAM hogs because new devices carry more RAM capacity. Having an old device means if I run google chrome, I can't run anything else because my phone runs like sh!t when chrome is running....so I have to kill it. As soon as I do, my phone starts responding again, and is finally usable!!!
....so before you just go spouting off about your unfounded claims in regards to task killers, maybe you should do some research and ask those of us who do use them if they actually help, instead of just assuming what you read is the only truth to the story.

Only thing so far is it stopped when I got a call during navigation. Dont know if itll keep happening but thats the only thing so far that hasnt worked.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
I ended up going back to the old version because they brought back some annoyances in the version, they had finally removed in the previous updates.
One, I use the map for just general guidance and traffic(not really point A to B directions). This new version never seems to remember the mode I left the map in, when I go back. So when the map shows, it doesn't remember I use view from behind "follow" type view(so I am always facing "up"). I have to hit the little button on the bottom right a few times to find the correct view.
Seconds, the map and text on the map is now too small by default again. It also doesn't remember my previous zoom level. The old version had this issue till later updates made the road names larger.
Also, when going under/over an overpass, the map goes bonkers, not knowing if I'm on the cross street or the road I was on as the map starts adjusting it's view wildly, till I'm passed the overpass. This gets VERY annoying when trying to see exits/entrances to highways.
I'll wait till they work out the kinks.
At first I didn't like it either but if your mind is dev material then everything becomes VERY easy, very quick.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
The update sucks. They dropped way too many useful features. Reminds me of an iPhone app now. Pretty but limited functionality. Trying to revert to old one as I type this.
Yep. While it is pretty and smooth, functionally, it leaves a lot to be desired compared to the previous version.
Look at the comments section on the Play Store. Not too many people liking it at all.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
And it definitely doesnt handle multi tasking very well. Doing anything else during navigation force closes it. Not very good when ur on the freeway and u get a call and it closes and u have no idea where ur going. Lol. Had to go back to old version.
