[Q] TouchWiz launcher? - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have a working apk for the newest version of the TouchWiz launcher -- the one that comes on the Epic 4G -- that will work on the Evo?
Not sure if it is some proprietary Samsung app or not... if it is, sorry for asking.

i believe its heavily embedded into the epic framework just like sense is but should be possible with all the best devs in this forum

Wasn't sure if it was akin to Sense UI or if it was just a launcher.

Touch Wiz is to Samsung as Sense is to HTC.
The Arc launcher in the Android forums is about as close as you're going to get to actual TW and it's not going to include TW sms or anything. Just the desktop and app drawer. I had the Vibrant forever and never cared for the TW launcher, always went with ADW or Launcher Pro until the Arc launcher released. Then I did some XML adjusting and used that for the longest.

dont know if this would work but never hurt to try http://www.xda-developers.com/android/auto-rotating-touchwiz-launcher-for-gingerbread/

[Q] AOSP themes and roms?

Am I absolutely blind or is this the only AOSP themed ROM that we have right now?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788150
and if so, does that mean you guys all really love TW that much?
You know you can add the vanilla lock on any rom. Did you know if you download home switcher from the market you can run the aosp launcher even if the phone is stock. I've noticed most people use adw and launcher pro

I know that if you've got ADW Launcher, there is a free ASOP theme available for it on the Market...BTW ADW Launcher is free also!
Yeah I was using Launcher2 on stock TW to begin with but I just missed the aosp lockscreen and taskbar. I'll just be using Bubs rom with launcher2 for now.

[Q] Epic 4g with gingerbread lockscreen

I have a rooted samsung epic 4g, stock rom, and i was hoping to get rid of the horrible touchwiz lockscreen and replace it with the original gingerbread lockscreen. I have looked and looked for something like this, but all i found was glitchy apps like go locker.
Uh you mean the aosp lockscreen? The double sliders? Unlock and sound sliders...if so you'd need to be on a deodexed rom aka a custom rooted rom...for it to work.

Just flash one of the addons from a theme that is for AOSP lock screen. Make sure you are on a deodexed rom.

Well, I found one but it was in an mtz. format. I couldn't find the themes app to read that. Do I need a custom rom for the miui themes app?

Stock ICS Launcher with official ICS update?

When this phone gets updated to ICS... I realize that it won't come with the stock launcher, but if I were to install the actual stock launcher would it work? I know there are a lot of Google apps that can't be installed without other Google services or framework things installed, so that's why I'm asking.
And I don't mean some hack-job port of it from the Market... I am talking about the real thing.

Actually it will have the stock launcher included. You'll just need to make it the primary.

I guess I really don't know, it's more an educated guess. I based it on the fact that every version of Android that's been released so far (official or otherwise) had had it.
Samsung just likes to make TW the default. Download Homesmack or Home Switcher to change your default.
It will have the stock launcher included, you just have to clear defaults for the twiz launcher in settings. The current gb version has the stock gb launcher hidden away and all of the ics leaks have had the stock ics launcher hidden away.

The stock GB TW has a launcher like the stock GB launcher but it is not stock... it is like a gimp knockoff.

Apex Pro on cm10/aokp because it can be themed pretty good, trebuchet on cm9 because I think it is a great launcher, the touchwiz one I modded with scrolling wallpapers on touchwiz because there is no point in running touchwiz unless you want the full experience.

I've found Nova to be the best since it's based off of the JB launcher. You can also rotate the screen into landscape mode while in the launcher which is a huge pro.

Apex can also be rotated into landscape mode When I had the gnex I was a big Nova fan but lately Apex has been winning me over. Also, the latest betas for Apex are based off JB. It really comes down to personal preference though.
GoLauncher EX here. Try it.....you'll like it! Very smooth. Never had a problem. Tons of themes.....many free. Check out "Cubed Theme".....my current weapon of choice

I find it funny that a lot of people are using a stock based ROM with a different launcher and claim their stock based ROM is the best, when every single ROM available has virtually the same tweaks in them. lol.
started with apex pro. didn't feel as smooth so i went with nova.
I've been using ADW EX for years and everytime I try a different one I go right back to ADW.

Touch Wiz
I'm rolling with Touch Wiz, the first phone I've ever owned where the stock launcher is very nice.

I don't want to flash because stock based ROMs don't offer enough improvements and new features to spend time flashing and reinstalling everything, while risking to brick the phone. I rooted the phone mainly to install AdBlock and Titanium Backup.
I run Go Launcher and Dialer One.
A question for those who went from Go to something else- what do other launchers have that Go doesn't?
Nova launcher prime ftw.
FTL launcher is good also .

ICS Launchers

As an owner of the HTC Desire HD, there was this one rom, can't recall which, which had 3 different types of launchers for ICS. The two that I can remember and testing with are NOVA and APEX launchers. If you want a different feel to your phone, check them out. They have a free version and a paid version.
Nova is the best
A matter of personal taste really; now that I've moved to ICS I am using Apex as well (used Go launcher back in 2.3.x).
I´m using Apex too.

yes, but it is also an alternative launcher for anyone running ics right?
I can pull it from the DHD but I haven't tried yet. Nova is better in my opinion.
