[Q] Ultimate droid vs CM7 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys Im confused on which rom to go to. I would like to know which rom is better, either ultimate droid or CM7 and why?
Thanks

Never used ultimate droid, but I would still recommend CM7. Its stable, fast, clean, lots of mods, themes, ect. Also, everything works. I've never had a problem on it, gps included.

Great thanks, I have a few questions about the cm7...how can i access wifi tether? Also can you explain what wimax is ive been trying to find out.
Thanks teh roxxorz you always help me out I appreciate it.

WImax is 4g. Tether is built in here: Menu>Settings>Wireless and Networks>Tethering no need for the wireless tether app. Although I think the Barnacle Tether app works.
CM7 has always been good to me too. Favorite ROM.

No problem man, and my pleasure to help.
Wifi tether, you can access the native hotspot from under wifi settings under hotspot and tethering; you can configure it as you wish, also can be added to your notification power widget.
WiMax = 4G, that's just the technical name for it, as its "wimax" technology. So if you hear wimax, they're talking about 4G. Also if you hear wimax rsa keys, those are your devices person 4G keys, which if lost, you've lost your 4G, permanently. Verizon's LTE, is 4G, but under a different LTE technology that is expanding.
Does that help?

As said, the wireless tether app WON'T work on CM7...so you'd have to use the native app. Barnacle tether does work, but again, same as the native.
Wireless tether will only work on sense roms, if you really needed to tether 4G speeds.

Im happy to hear that I can use the hotspot. I know when I flash cm7 im gona have a lot more questions. You mind if I pm you with questions teh roxxorz?

No one can tell you what the best is. I used to swear by Ava's rom, then MIUI, now CM7, but I want to go back to MIUI I think. It is all a matter of preference...and that can change daily

How do I do that?

Download ROM Manager, or open it of you already have it. Scroll down and click fix permissions. Usually helps with fc.

Use cm7 because ultimate Droid is the king of all kangers!

Or forget both and flash myn's warm 2.2 rls5 with launcher pro, in my opinion it has manyof the benefits of cm7 but you stay with sense (if you like sense, if not then cm7)

Kernel needed for Wired Tether for Root Users

To use the Wired Tether for Root you need to have a kernel that supports CONFIG_NETFILTER/CONFIG_IP_NF_IPTABLES and/or RNDIS, right? Anyways, I have found a lot of ways to patch kernels, but they are for the G1.
Are there any EVO kernels that support this? Or any better ways to use a wired tether? I am aware of PDA net and others like that, but I'm trying to use this on my xbox. I was using Wireless Tether, but I can't get more than 1mb down.
Any good suggestions for tethering to an xbox?
Thanks.
What's going to kill you is latency... other than that I don't have a clue if or how you can do this. Never tried since I get bad reception in my house.

I only use it for Netflix right now. So latency isn't a big deal. I would rather have higher download rates.

Yeah it looks like it supports Net Filter for wifi tether, right? Have you used this before or do you know it works? I'll try it out, but just curious.

Oh, wifi tether for sure. I'm looking for wired tether. Have you tried that?
Just use PDA net. It does the exact same thing and there is no special kernel needed.

New to EVO~Is 004 camera working with CM7 nightlies?

Hello everyone... Just got my EVO today, its 004 hardware, researched and there was talk of new drivers not released by HTC to make the camera work. My question is simple, and I've searched, but the massive amount of threads here w/ Evo, I couldn't find an answer. Will the camera work with CM7 nightlies and hardware 004? Thanks for your response. ~m00n
Bump...
Can anyone help me out? I know for seasoned Evo users, this is a simple question, but I've searched and can not find a clear answer. Have the camera and wimax issues been resolved for the nightlies? Any help will be greatly appreciated...

If you go to the CM 7 with WiMAX in my sig, it will work with hw0004. That being said DO NOT flash the extra kernel as it does not work on hw0004.

When I follow the link for the CM7 w/ Wimax in your sig, the listed bugs seem that Wimax isn't stable unless plugged in. Have you found this to be an issue on your end or have you found a way around it?

Its still in alpha stages, so best thing i found is after the phone has been on a long time, i just reboot if 4g doesn't connect. Its random, some times it connects no problem, other times it requires the reboot. Thanks for the thanks.

This rom is actually my daily driver but with the Savaged.Zen kernal. I find no real faults other than when turning off wimax, to get 3G to work, I have to reboot my phone. Not really a big deal for me. Else wise WiMax has been very stable for me. That Kernal, i've been pulling 7 down and 1 up and my camera works just fine. You don't have to use the Kernal they say you have too. Just a heads up.
Oh ment to put that I myself am running a white evo with 0004 HW

[Q] Evo wont tether :(

well i press on it and it just says it started but then it says error show log. it just shows that it failed. please help
What app are you using to tether?
Also.. what version of tether are you using? I had best luck with 2.05 if you can find it.
Honestly, wireless tether has been spazzmodic lately; I suggest using the built in hotspot...works just as nice.
the wireless tether app, and when i press it , it just says error. help :/

Yep still on MIUI. I average about 1.5Mbps down. No 4G but my 3G speeds are so good that I could care less about 4G. Also, MIUI has built in tethering that works splendidly.
If you can try another rom such as miui for instance like others have stated, you'll find you have better luck with tethering using the built in hotspot. I struggled with wireless tether as well but that 2.05 rc1 version i think it was worked good for me. some more info on your part like what rom, version of tether etc your using would help
downloading miui as we speak hehe

Cm7 = better wimax. Why?

Been using cm7 for a week or so now. The wimax has better signal and speed than ANY sense rom I have ever used. But why? Just trying to understand the reasons.

Beats me. But I get better Wimax with CM7 too. Thanks Cyanogen!
really? mine is a lot worse - it drops off 4G frequently and Wifi tethering doesn't work properly for me... Have either of you done tethering?
I have never tried to tether using 4g. I'm happy tethering 3g.

4G Tethering on AOKP?

Since the AOKP rom has the new kernel incorporated into it i decided to flash it
i was previously on Calkulin's rom 1.6 (GB) with the sprint hotspot hack and i was wondering if there is some type of hotspot hack on aokp or something like it
I've tried to get wifi tether and foxfi to work....but they dont like me

Wow, i'm sorry. (smh @ myself) I just switched to M'ICS and Foxfi doesn't work for me either. it worked for my on GB. I have the Sprint HotSpot and that works. I know you don't have it but have you searched in the devolopment section? I believe there was a thread on 3g/4g hotspot hack. I've never used wifi teather. Sorry I couldn't help you more.
Edit: the hotspot hack is only for FF18 stock.

Yes. I just upgraded to FF18. Foxfi did not work but wifi tether did. Although it did not work set to galaxy nexus but does work when set to auto.
Go figure? Thanks for the tip!
So I thought I would report that I got Wifi Tether for Root Users to work on AOKP M6 by setting the device profile to galaxy nexus.
Also, I've found that using the EL29 modem gives the fastest speeds. I was testing 250-300 kbps down with FF18, I get 1200+ kbps on EL29.
You know there's a profile for our device...
